I thinks the X5 or X5 pro is the good choice for this price.
JB now is not available yet for X5 or X5 pro .
And let buy it if you want, don't hesitate )
I'm from VietNam and i will buy the U8800 in the end of this week , just wait for the transporter

Please guys don't go for U8800, instead go for U8800 PRO. It has got more ROMs here at XDA, better configuration. Also has Official ICS update. Its not there for U8800. M using Pro and there r many ROMs both of GB and ICS to try out this phone. and JB is soon going to come out for Pro and not for simple U8800, since a developer is developing it and going to release it for u8800 pro only. So go for U8800 PRO, not U8800.
If you can get the g300 (8815/8818) where you are, go for that one. Upgrade to ICS available now, bigger screen, nicer build. Just better all round. Otherwise get the x5 pro. The regular x5 has not even got an official gingerbread running on it let alone ICS or jellybean.
Thanks all,
But who say the ICS or JB can not available on U8800 ?
We have many dev and i believe nothing we cant do !
I will try on U8800 and waiting for the "best ROM" for it !:victory:
It works fine but the firmware that Huawei made is very glitchy, I keep asking them to fix it but they don't seem bothered about it

full story short.. Huawei is the first non-google manufacturer that releases Android 4.0 for its handsets. The story is so real, and you can head to the huawei download page and get it.. maybe it could help for something on the ICS port to GS2... but Huawei Honor getting Ice Cream Sandwich..?! i don't freakin believe.. it ran 2.3 with SPB shell or something... full story here -> http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_u8860_honor_gets_an_official_demo_android_40_rom-news-3502.php

Neo V is a de-facto standard for anything near 17-18K. I know quite a few of people who have gone for the Neo V
Other alternatives may be the Desire S which has a very good dev community but will be slightly overbudget (Although today's eBay deal of the day was the Desire S with Mfgr Warranty for 15K), and the Defy+, although Moto is very different to mod, compared to something like HTC. Its difficult to recommend the One V at this point of time, since no one knows how the dev community for this device will turn out to be.

Hi All
Just bought a 64gb one off fleabay for not much more than 100 quid. It was my fault I know the build quality is good so I bought it off the spec. Reading the posts here should I be sticking it back on Fleabay?
I see Lenovo have released a Vanilla of ICS but my question is; is it a good release?
Which flavour of ICS works best? Does anyone know if Jellybean will be released?
Thanks
Paul

Do you have the K1 or the Thinkpad Tablet? All of the Lenovo devices have been sharing this forum (because there's not enough of us for a forum for each device).
This thread is about the Jellybean/CM10 build for the Thinkpad: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846044
This is standard Jellybean for K1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842262
This is CM10 for K1:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825176
Make sure you flash the right rom for the device you have. It probably wouldn't brick it to flash the wrong one but it would be unusable until you found/flashed the correct rom.
Hi let me introduce myself to you guys..I am A Galaxy Mini user..well thinking of upgrading my device while Searching over Google i came over Huawei ideos X5 Pro..well I am now thinking of Buying this device
My qwestions are -
1)Is this Device Very durable? i basically drop phones in marble floors that is in my home
2)Is this Device ArmV7?
3)And Last one..How is the Service from Huawei Service Centres
Guys Need some help fast
Am confused between Xperia Tipo and X5..well stats wise this Phone beats Tipo fair and Square...But I need ArmV7 architrcture..and so thats a must
I am gonna buy a phone in next week..so just confused between these 2..Guys help
Thank You
Fellow XDA'n

umm no one?..
Rik[Rittik]
Good and versatile phone.
You won't find a device for same price with same specs.
Worst or basically non client support from Huawei.
This you can get only from the store you bought itand here you will have all the assistance needed.
it wont break screen easily rite?
Rik[Rittik]
The screen might be a bit difficult to brake, since if I am not mistaken there is some space between the plastic and the screen. But the device is made of plastic so if you drop it frequently it might have some problems. Noone can quarantee that your phone will be OK after a drop....
Official support sucks.
Its a armv7a.
Sent from my U8800
You should probably look elsewhere. This phone is now getting on a bit and will most likely never have a working jelly bean ROM. Huawei has released some new phones like the Ascend G300 and the recent G330. They are better built, the G330 is much faster and they have official ICS. Might even get jelly bean at some point.

yea my other option is,g300
..but no official xda support still..well ita bad for a developer like me..but why are u guys waiting for official JB update? Use CM10 or Aokp..much better according to me..

Official XDA support - that's an oxymoron
By Jelly Bean I meant any Jelly Bean. The new Ascend models have a good chance to receive an official update at some point.

Devs can easily port CM10 i.e 4.1.3 To X5 easily..it has enough horsepower to run it smoothly ...my galaxy mini runs CM10 smoothly..with Oc upto 768mhz only..
Rik[Rittik]
Save your money and don't but Huawei. Go for a Samsung our something
Its armv7... It is dependant on whether model it is. You don't want to have the U8800H since it has limited support.
My honest opinion is if you can't afford the very cheap nexus 4 then there is no doubt that this is the phone you definitely want. It is really durable especially the scratch proof screen (Mine has never been scratched) but dropping any phone on a marble would do some sort of damage. Yes its arm 7 and the service center varies between country as one is located in each I think? The one in my country (New Zealand) is extremely good. Mine got hard bricked and they had it back to me within a week of me taking it into the store I bought it from and they gave me a free micro sd because the first time they sent it back the camera told me it couldn't be found. And if you are wanting to get into developing yourself then I 100% recommend this phone to you. Hope this has helped your decision.
Yea Ty guys..Got my x5 pro

I might buy this phone but the company is not famous in my country so was skeptical about it. Just want your reviews guys and its pro's and con's.. Is there any scope of having cm7,9,10 on this phone and is the phone "sources" friendly?
THANKS!
I'm sorry, but you have to be more specific, because there are several models of this phone:
Huawei Ideos X5, or the U8800
Huawei Ideos X5 Pro, or the U8800Pro
U8800-51, which in turn is also called "Impulse 4G"
All in all, you'd be foolish to purchase the original version, which I own, aka. the regular Ideos X5 (U8800). The phone was, for its price, rather excellent, but it is quite outdated at this point. You may want to consider the pro model if it's in your price range as it has official Android ICS, but I'd suggest you to look into Sony Xperia U. This phone was denied official JB, but it still officially has ICS at a low price point with a nice developer base. Don't take my word for this, as I don't actually own this device, though.
Note: The regular version, U8800 has a stable ICS ROM as well, built by dzo. As Huawei abandoned us on 2,2 Froyo with an unfinished 2,3 Gingerbread beta, we are all grateful for dzo for his efforts. (Among other developers)

Sorry for being not precise. I am thinking about buying the pro version and its about 200$ in my country INR 10000. It seems very gud phone on net and for very cheap! I think it got ICS official and has cm10 in development phase.

I will wait and see which phone gets the best development till the new year. I will start my dev work as soon as I get my phone. Is the bootloader unlocked in this phone? Any way to recover a hard brick on this phone? Something like USB jig for samsung phone?

It's good enough for daily usage and we've struck lucky with some very dedicated developers (like dzo), but from what I've gathered so far this phone is a nightmare to develop for. You sometimes get the feeling that Huawei has been rummaging around in the wheely bin outside the factory, looking for parts to put in there. Even for the exact same model, there seem to be several hardware revisions.
If you can get it, the Ascend G300 and G330 are much better options. Better built and the G330 might get official Jelly Bean if Huawei continues with one update per phone (X5 got GB, Honour and G300 got ICS).

Yeah, it's only been available for 3 months. I'd be surprised if it didn't get that kind of attention. It's very good value for money and should sell well.
