I will be getting the N7 this weekend and i have been reading about the screen issues such as screen lifting and touch response then there is the lag issue when you are low on space. I have been reading about different models like C7O, C8O and C9O, what is also this about?
What should i look out for? Why do people want the C9O devices?
all of the models are the same .. its been confirmed the only difference is in the newer model where they are not putting all of the screws in the back on the left side. This will cause issues later on with the bezel being plastic it in my opinion will warp and cause even more screen distress .
If you do get a nexus . get it from a brick and mortar store and by all means A EXTENDED damage warranty is a must. If you get it from the play store and you want a refund .Well its likely to take 2-3 months . I myself do not make the same mistake 3 times. Im waiting over a moth for the refund on second device i bought still no word . the first one i have all but given up on getting my money back on it.. one says refunded on google wallet . for o5 days now.. I am not the only one who feels this way about the device.
you have good reason to Worry..
to bad samsung did not make this.
Well I'm in Canada and will be picking one up from Best Buy so other then a extended warranty nothing to look out for? Like there is no models that do not have this issue?
Well bro I also searched whole lot market and have seen c70 as well c80 but not c90 and they are all have screen lifting issue as far I have seen maybe there are out which aren't having the issue but majority have this issue... so skip this part and believe it doesn't have to do anything with device I mean the screen lifting is fine no thing is to worry about it else I hadn't have issue of touch response nor of pixel dead but screen is still elevated from left side... so stay calm and buy Nexus 7 ...

I would take that post with a grain of salt. I've owned 6 different tablets and I think this screen is GORGEOUS. Let's not forget, this tab is $200-$249 depending on storage. This offers BY FAR the most bang for your buck. Not too mention its a Google device so updates galore and dev support to the max is guaranteed. I can't think of one reason not to buy it, I have a c80 running fauxs kernel and codename ROM. This is the BEST device I've ever owned and I've gone through a new android phone/tablet every 2 months since the g1. Good luck with your device, and to answer your question, look for the c80. Hope to see u on the dev forum!!

Simple answer......if you're worried about it.....don't get it.
I read about all the screen issue's, build quality, etc..... I bought a Galaxy Tab 2 instead. Well the Tab 2 wifi was not able to stream Netflix or HBO Go in the bedroom, two so I Took it back.
I then got a Tab Plus, and which works great, but I really wanted to see what the N7 could do, and so I bought one from Walmart, and and I love it. Zero issues.

Returned my unlocked Nexus S, connectivity is the biggest issue with it then screen response and freezing.
I compromised on the desireble specs to buy Nexus S only coz Google put their stamp on it. I seriously dont understand why Google will pick Samsung (is it the super AMOLED display or something else). HTC has far better workmanship n service compared to Samsung -they r in such a rush to inundate the market with phones that their is no quality control or post sales service.
Ley me put it this way I'm never gonna buy Samsung phone again. Bought 3 of their flagship best phones in last 3 years n let down all 3 times
1. Samsung Omnia when it came out from Europe $ 600
2. Samsung i8910 (first with Amloed Display) again form europe for $700
3. Nexus S $571
I've used samrtphone for last 12 year from Palm 180 to everything, and i would say Samsung are the worst.

Opinions are like assholes...

... and their full of sh#t!
Seriously tho does anyone even give a damn about these "I h8 NS!" threads besides the trolls?
Samsung is doing a fine job manuacturing their phones, I'm glad I don't have to deal with TouchPiss anymore.
Google probably went with Samsung over HTC because:
- They use the Hummingbird processor, HTC doesn't.
- They're the only ones with Super AMOLED technology.
- HTC is getting their pants sued off by Apple.
- Google is trying to diversify.
- Contractual/agreement issues, who knows.
- Maybe HTC didn't want to parter again in the first place.
i am glad Google went with Samsung this time. People who own Nexus One know that the touchpad that HTC used was a ****ing fiasco. Also, this is my biggest pet peeve virtually on all HTC phones they use the crappiest quality speakers.
Sounds like the OP needs to look up the definition of "insanity" with regards to his repeated purchases of Samsung products.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
I'll have to say the speaker quality on this Samsung is far better than the one on my G1. The touch screen is much more responsive than on the G1 and registers better. Of course it is a million times faster than the G1. Also, I don't need to root and modify the hell out of just to make it work remotely close to other phones.
I am impressed do far.
Only complaints, no LED notifications (knew this going in), and my wireless signal is weaker on this phone than it was on my G1 or any other wireless device in my house. Not sure what's up with that. Also, that it doesn't take advantage of T-Mobiles HSPA+. I knew this as well going in.
I don't do much mobile browsing anyway, but do like to show of videos with friends and that can be a downside. Though T-Mobile is as much to blame as a manufacturer not supporting it (read T-Mobile just sucks sometimes).
Good for you that you returned your Nexus S. Thanks for sharing. Now move on to a different forum. Or do you require some counseling for your loss?
I went from rooting the Nook color, got hooked on Android, and then bought the Nexus S. I couldn't be happier. Pure Google! Customize! No cell carrier branding! 2.3! Oh no, they have a quad core with a kitchen sink plug in, I must return my Nexus S!
Take care all. Looking forward to all the mods and roms.
Perhaps somebody should start a "I'm not returning my Nexus S, I'm perfectly happy with it" thread....

I have to agree. The ONLY thing I don't like about my Nexus S is that I'll have to put a screen protector on it because it doesn't have Gorilla Glass.
I wish they'd saved whatever cash they spent creating curved glass and just used Gorilla Glass instead.
I have Nexus S as well as Desire HD and I can tell you signal strength is far better on the Nexus S. HTC have shocking antenna problems on every Android. Still love the HD but the Nexus poops all over it.

Ok, this is my 3rd device and all of them have had dirt under the screen. I am so pissed right now.
Very frustrating, but a problem with all manufacturers. I was unable to get an Ipad 2 because every one I tested had bad light leak (at least 4 units). The BB playbook had dust, dirt or bad pixil on my first 3 units. My first tab 2 had a spec of dust. The second appears perfect, but I'm determined not to run tests until I find something!

Have you considered a device with an AMOLED screen? The Galaxy Tab 7.7 has one. The technology sandwiches the touchscreen and the display together - no room for particulates.

its like the iphone antenna. not a huge deal (i had one) but once people read about it then they had to hold it that way and then start complaining. its how the particles under the samsung screen is going to turn out. people spend $400 expecting $800 worth of product
I realize that it may seem crazy to have a post about this but I think it is also something that after so many you have to raise a question. I mean you are spending over 400 dollars for these things, I think you should get some quality. Yes I can let this go and I am as I am using the device.
I am just saying that how many of these are out there and when does the manufacturer have to start taking responsibility for it.
Just looked at my screen, and there isn't any dirt under it. Don't remember seeing any dirt or dust under the screen at any display models that I've seen in stores either, so that makes 4 - 7" and 3 - 10" tablets that I've looked at without any screen issues (besides just needing wiped off).
I have never had dirt under a screen in a device. I am sorry OP that you are having this issue.

Just bought a tab 2 10" for the wifes birthday - no dust/dirt problems here, she loves it.
Terry
I agree with the dust problem. I have seen this problem on iphone 3gs, iphone 4, ipad 1, ipad 2, galaxy tab p1000, tab 7.7, and many other models...
It is really hard to find a device without dust. Latest screen technology get rides of the backlight bleeding problem, specially the super amoled screen, but the problem is that the dust gets inside between the touch panel and the screen during the manufacture process, so you won't be able to avoid it...
It is a shame that such an expensive piece of hardware gets that problem just because they don't care when they are manufacturing the pieces... :S
I have returned dozens of devices because of this fault... I don't understand why people return devices with dead pixels but not with dust under the screen... the visual effect is the same or even worse with dust!
Its just a tablet not a scalpel, just a mass produced product. You're lucky you don't see any Chinese dung beetles under the glass. Lol.

This device does not cost over $400.
That said, mine is perfect. No dirt, nothing.
I'm just grateful mine didn't come with any dirt. And to back the OP, if I spend anywhere near $400 then I want to see some quality. Less than perfect usually won't cut it, not if I am shelling out that kinda money. I want to get the best bang for my buck... I have seen this complaint in other forums and if I got a tablet and it had dust under the screen, I would certainly return it for another as well, not settle for a device that has a flaw, especially knowing some people are buying them without this flaw...

Is it even worth it? I mean with most of the people suffering from screen lifting, creaking, screen cracking easily washed out screen, screen flicker, dead pixels, screen burn-in/ghosting, LAG etc even with the replacements, seem to take the fun out of the tablet. I heard the replacements work for a few days and then start displaying the same issues.
What do ya'll think and suggest? Is the C8O the one to get or does that also have the same problems with it?
At this price point this is a steal but would still want an enjoyable tablet without the annoying problems.
Yeah, it's worth it - at least the 8 GB one is. I got it mainly to play with though. I have a XYBoard that I use for work. The issues are irritating, but it's not like I'm losing productivity. When I get home I put down the tool (XYBoard) and pick up the toy (N7)

Most people have a nexus 7 that is fine. A lot of people on xda like to complain about small problems; however, they are a miniscule minority compared to the number of tablets that had to have been sold at this point. It does make these forums pretty boring imo. Mine has been fine since buying it at Gamestop the first day they sold it.

Maybe I'm one of the lucky few, but I haven't had any of the aforementioned problems. I am 100% happy with the N7 I received. I know it seems discouraging that a lot of people are having problems, but it's a great tablet.
The people suffering from LAG issues have there internal storage pretty full. From what I've heard it starts when you have 1-2gbs free space, I've never gone below 9gbs of free space.
I really love it but in really hate having to find one that doesn't have issues. Just got a replacement today and the same issue and is older than its a c60k but the one I had was the c80. If you can find one that has everything in check its awesome but these little defect are ridiculous. Asus did a terrible job with quality control. Not that every company doesn't but this is too damn widespread.

What issues?
Had mine since the first shipment and have not seen any issues. Most likely it is just a few people that have any problems. Most of us got what they wanted and are very happy with it.Sure you see a lot of threads but it probably is not really that many people with issues since the same ones post of all them. I am sure google sold a lot more units than the few where we read about having issues.
You have to remember that complaints are like spilled oil.......doesn't take much to look like a real big mess!!!
I preordered mine from the Play Store. Had it rooted about 10 minutes out of the box and I haven't had one single defect!!! And I do believe that I am the rule rather than the exception. Keep in mind that Google is expected to sell five to six million of these things by the end of the year. And that's a lot of 7's!!
No problems with my 16gb C6O. Bought it last month. Use it every day!
Bought mine from a retail store 2days ago, in love with it even though its fairly new. Its an amazing device, its fast as hell, faster than my iPad 3. I also bought a one year warranty that covers pretty much anything for a year for just 50$. I would recommend anybody to do the same if they can, that way there's nothing to worry about.

Trust me alot of people make a mountain out of a mole hill when it comes to the N7. Its a great device don't let the people with OCD keep you from getting a fantastic device. As far as the creaking, its made of plastic kinda expected, colors being washed out? Compared to a amoled display, yes its washed out but you can't expect them to use a top notch display and keep the price @ $200.

The nexus 7 is a very popular device that is being looked at thru a nano microscope. There are issues in some of the devices. But we see way more I love my nexus we see lots of support ..
I myself have a 8 gb with the screen lift issue. The reason i have not replaced it yet is because i had a 16 gb version delivered last week . Not 20 minutes after opening the box in my hand the screen crushed under my thumb. These things will happen to any device. The issue is how the company deals with these issues. I have noticed some Questionable i broke my my screen just broke threads. Really read them and you can kinda see the legit ones. This is a tough call for the Manufacture But we will hope they do the right thing..
SO YES ITS A AWESOME Device with questionable very questionable Quality Control.by a KNOWN 3RD Rate build partner..
If you buy one and have trouble REPORT IT quickly and get it replaces. When its said and done i bet there will be very small return numbers in comparison to the number of the devices sold...

All these issues are real enough. And I confess that I've kinda focused on them and let the issues bother me more than they should. But then I decided to just use the tablet, I even stopped reading this forum for a while and I'm really enjoying it and don't really notice the problems much anymore.
Yes, I have screen lift on the left side. While most of the bezel has a very tiny lip around the glass, on the left side the glass is just a hair higher than the bezel. I wish it wasn't that way, but it's easy enough to forget that defect is there if I'm not being reminded of it daily on this forum.
I've already tried a couple RMAs and have pretty much had the same issues with every replacement I've gotten. Except creaky bezel, haven't had that on any of my Nexus 7s, so I'm hopeful that's a rare issue that you won't encounter.
As for the washed out screen. There are two things going on here. Firstly playing many videos will cause the screen to look very washed out or over saturated while and after the video (though the video itself looks great). This goes away quickly on it's own after the video has stopped. If you are rooted there are automatic scripts you can install to disable the "smartdimmer" behavior causing the problem, which I have done. The other issue is the colors do look a bit washed out all the time. This is much more subtle and if you didn't have another tablet or phone to compare with you might not even notice it. I'm hoping Google can can fix this, but I'm growing doubtful that they will if they haven't by now. But I can live with the slightly washed out colors and the "smartdimmer" video issue is easy to fix ourselves with root access.
I don't think there is any screen burn in issue. I think some people mistake the ghosting for it. With the smartdimmer disabled I really don't notice the ghosting anymore. I think it's still there to a small degree, but minor.
I've not experience lag with any of my Nexus 7 tablets. With the exception of Chrome, seems like it should be performing better, it does very well in benchmarks. Not sure what the issue is, but the lag really isn't that terrible. While I find Dolphin much faster, I still use Chrome because I like the synchronization with my desktop and I still find it plenty fast for my needs anyway.
It's definitely not the best looking screen. But getting a pure Nexus experience and at only $250, I'm very impressed and pleased with my purchase. And this tablet is light and feels really good in my hand. So it more than makes up for the multitude of minor issues I've had with all of mine.

Yes, it's absolutely worth it - pending you buy an extended/accidental warranty. I baby my devices, but that didn't stop my Nexus 7 screen from randomly breaking. Randomly breaking?
a cheap piece of crap with numerous glaring flaws as many people are saying? or have the bugs been worked out of the latest units?
Dude, like, maybe you should checked before ordering? Haha.
But no, the 7 doesn't feel cheap at all. If you're unlucky simply return it, but if you have a good model it really does feel solidly built with a nice weight and finish. Its snappy as hell, and I've had almost no software problems whatsoever.
You'll be happy, whether you need to return the first one or not.

what I expect is quality, when i bought my ps vita for nearly the same price I got a rock solid piece of tech with quad core cpu and gpu capable of incredible gaming, which is why I bought the nexus 7, for its tegra 3 and quad core cpu I expect the same level of quality I get from the vita considering both are nearly the same price

I have had 5 and every single one has had faults, some of them multiple faults. All of them have had the screen lift problem on the left. All of them have had LCD issues such as stuck pixels, backlight bleed or LCD mura.
If you get a faultless unit, you are in the extreme minority. I wish you luck anyhow.
Edit: I would like to add that if not for the faults, the Nexus 7 is worth a lot more than what it sells for. It's a solid piece of kit. The faults turn that perspective on it's head though.
I recently got mine its a C80K with no defects. I'm pretty ocd too. Swapped out two iPad 3`s due to screen probs.

* Left side of glass raised above the bezel. This seems unfortunately common, but there are quite a few things people can do to fix or minimize the issue.
* Washed out colors. Good chance you won't even notice it if not comparing it side by side with something else. Some people claim to even prefer the less vibrant colors.
* Weak speaker. Volume+ app can help, I set mine to +7 boost.
* Screen over saturated during and after playing video. This goes away within seconds of playing the video, turning the screen on and off clears it up. If you are rooted, there is an app and script you can install to disable the feature causing the problem.

Think that is about all I can think of on possible issues you might come up with. It's still a really nice tablet though and it's good points do outweigh it's problems. So I wouldn't worry too much.

it is very serious?
Hey people!
I'am new here but i have been looking at the forums for quite a while now and thought i should make an account, so here I am .
Lets get to the point, I would love to buy this phone, it looks awesome, its fast, its all i want BUT i got some serious worries about the glass at the back. or the yellow tinting of the screen. The glass worries me the most. Would a screen protector or Soft, hard case help against cracking?
As i said i would love to buy the phone when it is available agains
What are your opinions? (and the case answers ofc since i have no cllue about what helps against what)

Well, obviously the phone has a chance to break. I've been using mine over a week and I don't have an issue. Then again my near one year old gnex is near flawless, so I guess it depends on how you use your devices and how you handle them.
In regards to yellowing screen or other issues, they shouldn't be enough to dissuade you from buying it. All phones have issues, in fact, all electronics have issues. There is no evidence so far that any of these supposed issues are widespread. I think its just more likely to find people complaining on boards like these than those going out of there way to say how great the device is.
I for one have no issues my n4 and I've yet to have an issue my n7 or gnex either (both day one purchases). I'm either really lucky or things aren't as bad as the boards make them seem.

well you can always use a case, and this is the best android phone out there in my opinion. I have used note, S2, S3 and switched to N4, even though my version has some problem i would say best android phone out there.

I'm exactly in the same boat. I want this N4, but with all those bad things you have mention I am really undecided between the N4 and the Note2.
I have an N4 and don't have any yellow tint. But the glass back is a worry. If you drop this phone then it will break.
But it's so fast! And it's a Nexus. I spent so much time trying different ROMs with my old arc S which I don't need to do now. Games just fly on this phone with 2GB of RAM.
I do think the arc has a better camera than the N4 though.
I miss my arc but it was time to move on and now I have a Nexus I won't ever get anything else.
