Hi All
I really like using Chrome on my S3 and I was bitterly disappointed with the performance I was getting when using it on my TF300T. In my quest to get this thing working as a viable alternative I turned my head towards the shocking internal SD IO performance and the browser2ram hack for the stock browser. I originally planned to fork browser2ram to create "chrome2ram" but instead decided on using DirectoryBind to put Chrome's cache on the ExternalSD card.
** Note: this method does require root **
To prove that this would actually give me a performance increase I used the DirectoryBind trick on Quadrant first and compared the I/O score before and after. Even with my lowly Class2 the figures spoke for themselves - 976 before and 2805 after... wow! Wish I had a faster SD card to hand to retest this with. The config for DirectoryBind was:
S: /Removable/MicroSD/QuadrantTemp/ (need to create this folder)
T: /data/data/com.aurorasoftworks.quadrant.ui.standard/
So I've now applied this to Chrome and it definitely seems like things have improved - I can't say I've seen an ANR message since I started using this last night. If anyone wants to give this a try and see if they can notice any difference that would be appreciated . DirectoryBind config for Chrome:
S: /Removeable/MicroSD/ChromeCache/ (need to create this folder)
T: /data/data/com.android.chrome/cache/Cache/
I don't want to bore you with the step-by-step details of setting up DirectoryBind etc. but if there is the demand then I'll put a quick guide together - just make sure you change the settings to bind on boot.
Thanks for reading!
I want to try this, the problem I'm having is that when I go to set the directory in /data/ the folder appears empty in the app. Weird, I even tried typing it and it said something about incorrect directory. I do have root and can clearly see all directories through root explorer, any ideas? also which version of directorybind did you use?
Thanks in advance

I'm using "DirectoryBind_0.2.0o.apk". I remember I did have that issue actually. To get around it I manually typed the path in the box and disabled path verification - the Directory Bind explorer doesn't seem to work well for folders which require root to view.
Hope that helps.
A how to will be nice, for those of us that have not use Directory Bind.

Sounds interesting and definitely would be interested in a guide!
I also tried this and am getting the error that directorybind is unable to access the data directory. This is after granting root access with supersu and disabling path verification under directorybind settings...

Seems a couple of people are running into the same issue as myself - the DirectoryBind tool is a little confusing in it's naming of the data/target folders.
Download and install the Directory Bind apk from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262. I'm using the version 'DirectoryBind_0.2.0o.apk'
Shutdown Chrome and fire up DirectoryBind.
"Menu -> Preferences". Turn on 'Bind on boot'. Turn on 'Bypass path verification'.
Go back to the main screen and then "Menu -> Add new entry"
Long press on the first box (data). Navigate to /Removable/microSD. Click 'New' in the bottom left and create a folder (e.g. ChromeCache). Then hit 'Select'
The navigator doesn't work for app data so in the second box you'll need to type the path manually in here: "/data/data/com.android.chrome/cache/Cache/"
I left the 'copy files' tick box unchecked as I wasn't too bothered about having my existing cache - but this one is up to you. Click Add.
Finally click the grey disk icon the the left of the new entry and it should (hopefully) go green.
edit: make sure the button in the bottom right of the DirectoryBind main screen is also set to on.
After that you should be all ready to go!
Thanks; those step by step instructions are dead on.
I have to say, though, that I still find the stock browser + browser2ram + IPAD UserAgent to be smoother and faster than Chrome + directorybind. What's been your experience since making that change?

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned I'm running CM10.
FYI: The reason I use the ipad UA is that espn.com attempts to load Flash for all Android browsers. The HTML5 page is much better, however, and using ipad as the UA fools it into loading that instead.
Interesting...
Had to try it, because using Chrome is always a real pain. Unfortunately in my case, there really is no improvement. Also tried Quadrant, and on a class 10 card the i/o score went up from 1100 to around 1400. On ics and with overclocking it was around 4000, and Chrome was still sluggish.
I have 4410 score in quadrant with class 10µ1 microSD card and with this addon...

All this is very great.. But could it, as mentioned in the beginning, be made, so that Chrome could run off a ram drive?
The browser2ram is great, although it could be improved (by somebody how knows how?)..
Does rooting the tablet void the warranty? It'd be nice to see performance increases but i don't want to void the warranty (and i don't really know how to do this tweak anyways)

Rooting does not....officially at least. you can always unroot the tablet at any time.
unlocking the bootloader does void the warranty though.
this is a really interesting read. i was pretty fed up with chrome. i rarely got the ANR message but it still locked up here and there even with Browser2RAM. i have since switched to the stock browser with no modifications done to it and dont have nearly the problems that i did with chrome.
I think i might try contacting asus to confirm. Thanks for your help.
Also, is chrome with this tweak better than stock browser with Browser2RAM?

For the people who are always asking about the best apps for their rooted phones I put together a little list/guide to some of the best apps you can try on your rooted Android device! The list is broken into two parts, a free section and a paid section. Free apps that have a paid full version will have a linked note attached. Also, if you know of any apps that you think should go in this list just post a reply with the name of the app.
⇜FR33 R00T APP$⇝
1). Titanium Backup **Pro version available**
Overveiw:
You can backup, restore, freeze (with Pro) your apps + data + Market links. This includes all protected apps & system apps, plus external data on your SD card. You can do 0-click batch & scheduled backups. Backups will operate without closing any apps (with Pro). You can move any app (or app data) to/from the SD card. You can browse any app's data and even query the Market to see detailed information about the app.

3). Battery Calibration
Overveiw:
Calibrate your battery when you think it's miscalibrated.Calibration needs to be done after flashing a new ROM, but you can calibrate any time you think your battery is miscalibrated. This program does it by removing the batterystats.bin system file. The OS generates a new clean batterystats file soon, thus any fake information from the previous ROM is removed. It's suggested, but not necessary, to let the phone fully discharge after calibration, then charged to 100% without break.
The app shows your actual battery status, and only allows you to start the calibration (i.e. removes the file) when it's fully charged, unless you force earlier calibration.
The voltage meter can be useful too. Full charge is around 4200mV.
There is an option to beep when 100% is reached so you don't have to closley follow the changes.

DiskUsage will show you in graphical form a breakdown of your internal and external disk as well as your partitions like /system, /data, /dbdata, /sys,...pretty much any storage you have plus you can long-press the entry and it takes you right to that app's settings to say maybe clear cache or data. Also has non-root functions (but what fun is that).
ShootMe will take screen shots and save them to your sdcard. Handy for showing off, helping someone else with info (like showing app permissions or something along those lines) or showing what is wrong/happening so it can be properly diagnosed.

Speaktoit Assistant
I wanted to share this really cool app I found on the market the other day. Root isn't necessary for it which is why I'm posting it here and not above in the guide/list, it's called "Speaktoit Assistant" and it's the Android Equivalent of Siri but better! Check it out, it is completely free!!!
Another pretty cool virtual assistant is called "Vlingo Virtual Assistant", it is also free but in my opinion it isn't as in depth and neat as Speaktoit. Check out the video below to get an idea of what Speaktoit is all about...
Siri (iPhone 4s) vs Speaktoit for Android:
Credits- I did not make this video. Credit goes to robifis for the video.
Note- This video is slightly outdated, Speaktoit as been updated a few times since the time the video was posted. This is what has been updated...
1. Some listening issues are fixed
2. Improved geolocation
3. Smoother conversation history swiping
4. A few other minor (but also important) bugs are fixed

Apologies, glazed right over that. Glad to see you put Root Explorer up automagically. That app is amazing.
Now that the list is expanded (sorry), you may want to add Titanium Backup paid and note that the scripts run automatically (no pressing install/done, etc) and runs a LOT faster... other features too, but that is the main attraction.
Rom Manager paid is nice too, but perhaps not needed for people on xda.
No need to apologize. Things happen and it's cool. The list needed to be more open anyhow.
Also, I will be updating the list to include a description of Titanium Backup pro and other pro, plus, or full app versions.
What do you think of ROM Toolbox? (by JRummy16) I haven't used it yet, just found it, but seems it would enable me to use a lot of this stuff from a single app! Appreciate your guides and advice, best I've seen here!!
Root Explorer works better than Root Browser in Rome Toolbox.
Besides, I always get reboot when I try to UV in Rom Toolbox.

QFT. Love that as a freebie File explorer. Let's you mount the file system (if rooted) for edits to those prop and config files if you're so inclined with all that.
N00B - Thanks for the link to Shoot Me. I've been switching back and forth between ICS and Froyo builds, and have the vol down + power screenshot action in ICS really spoiled me to quick and easy screen caps. Glad to see something is out there to fit the bill
These days, the number of apps on my phone took a hundred. It's hard to navigate through apps. So I decided to develop new app, which will sort all the apps and create a folder of apps by category on your phone's Home Screen. I found out that there's no such app on Market. Yes, there are apps with which you can do it all manually (Apps Organizer, Folder Organizer, etc). But dragging all 120 apps to folders by category, it's too bad. So I decided to develop my app sorter.
Tasks, features to be performed by the sorter.
Automatically sort applications by category (how to do this is the topic of another post).
Gives you possibility to create your own own categories.
Enables the correct choice of the category, if app categories choosen wrong it.
Developing such an app has took couple of nights, and now I can show you the first alpha version. While it's raw, may slow down in some places, it will all be fixed closer to release. And now I need your help in testing the app, mostly to improve definition of app categories. I think that if the app will determine at least 50% of application categories correctly, it will be excellent result (in the intelligence app not too much).
Here is a link to the application: autofolders.apk
How to use the application.
Usability and design of the app still unfinished, as it's alpha version. It will all be fixed closer to release. In the meantime, test its intellectual abilities.
How to make it work?
Install the application on the link above
Start it
Wait 10 seconds before the application will find all of your apps and display them.
Each app will be indicated in the list of its category.
Look at the percentage of wrong app category selections.
How to create a folder of apps on your home screen?
Tap and hold on the free space on home screen and choose-> Select Shortcut -> AutoFolders -> Select the category you want to add.
Thanks for your help.

Im... on the fence about that app. I cant understand why it would need to read my sensitive log data, or install anything directly.. So im rather glad for this app, I'll be giving it a try in just a little bit.
Sorry guys, AutoAppOrganizer is there and I am surprised that this app turns up on the main landing page of XDA.
No offence, but guys with programming talent should utilize it better. In particular, before starting a project, check whether something similar exists already.
No, Angry Birds analogy does NOT work here. Games are different from apps. You might need three versions of Angry Birds (I know I do) but I just need ONE SMS app, for example.
And I am also not a fan of the spontaneous 'support' that springs up in response to any adverse comments. 'Permissions' seems to be the scapegoat used to discredit CLEARLY SUPERIOR apps. Sorry guys, its doubly unfair to the app creator.

The "permissions" thing I stated isn't a scapegoat to discredit the developer. It's an actual concern. I mean I can fully understand it needing internet access, to check the list of apps against an internet database to see which app should be sorted into which category. But not the mass majority of the rest. "autoapps organizer" should essentially be an automated version of "apps organizer" yet "apps organizer" requires NO SPECIAL PERMISSIONS. So why in the @*#$ does it need to know my location, to read my logs, the devices serial/phone number, the ability to modify internal memory or have the ability to install apps.
So, i am rather glad someone decided to develop an auto sorting app. Because I am not going to use AutoAppOrganizer. Not when it requires the following permissions;
Your location
Coarse (network-based) Location
Access coarse location sources such as the cellular network database to determine an approximate device location, where available. Malicious applications can use this to determine approximately where you are.
Network communication
Full Internet Access
Allows an application to create network sockets.
Your Personal Information
Read Sensitive Log Data
Allows an application to read from the system's various log files. This allows it to discover general information about what you are doing with the device, potentially including personal or private information.
Phone Calls
Read Phone State and Identity
Allows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like.
Storage
Modify/Delete USB Storage Contents modify/Delete SD Card Contents
Allows an application to write to the USB storage. Allows an application to write to the SD card.
System Tools
Retrieve Running Applications
Allows application to retrieve information about currently and recently running tasks. May allow malicious applications to discover private information about other applications.
Prevent Device From Sleeping
Allows an application to prevent the device from going to sleep.
Network Communication
View Network State
Allows an application to view the state of all networks.
System Tools
Automatically Start At Boot
Allows an application to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the device and allow the application to slow down the overall device by always running.
Default
Directly Install Applications
Allows an application to install new or updated Android packages. Malicious applications can use this to add new applications with arbitrarily powerful permissions.

Yes I know that but I guess my comment was more related to the fact that this has been posted on front page, as if it was something brand new and not been done before.
Also your point about Angry birds is flawed and irrelevant.
This app is awesome just a small suggestion, maybe you could introduce themes to the app so that people may customize the look of the folders to match their homescreen Keep up the great work
Hey guys,
I am about to buy a KF here today on my lunch break. I had a few questions though. I see all the steps and downloaded all the tools needed to Root, one thing I wondered though is if you do root and install a custom rom (Which ones the best one to get?) can you still utilize the Amazon Prime and other amazon features that you get when you purchase it?
Which Rom would be the best choice? Something light weight but customizable of course. With full Android market.
Also, I have an evo 3d, and of course it uses my google account to know which apps I bought and such, will all that + my google wallet work for the Kindle also?
Thanks all!
Do It
Buy it, use your free month of amazon prime for about 4 days until you realize that its streaming is more useless than netflix and that the bookshelf launcher thing is more annoying than using Microsoft BOB on a 386DX. Even the amazon reader PDF viewer is total garbage
1. Copy CM7 and Gapps to the kindle in disk mode
2. Root using the Kindle Fire Utility (the only problems you may face are getting the right drivers on your PC), this will burritoroot it, install the firefirefire bootloader and install the TWRP touchscreen recovery
3. When you get to the bootloader, backup first, then flash CM7+Gapps. Login with your account that is tied to your Evo3D. Multiple device win.
4. Without hardware buttons, CM7 has tablet tweaks under CMsettings. Check the box for home button as it isn't there by default. If you are right handed, change from the default to right-side, this will now put the home button in the middle in portrait mode.
5. Set up google voice so you can send/recieve text messages on your awesome tablet (it is way more than a kindle now). GrooveIP for calls if you use a headset with mic built in. Gmail app for push gmail.
6. Install the amazon kindle app for your books/syncing and then adobe pdf viewer
7. Install Google Currents and Pulse if you read the news a lot. Especially if you want to read the news anywhere you won't have a wifi connection, like on an airplane. They both prefetch.
8. Dolphin browser is so much more awesome than silk.
9. Enjoy your $200 nerdgasm in other ways you see fit...
In short, as far as I know there isn't any CURRENT way to use a custom ROM and use amazon's software aside from the SILK browser which is garbage compared to the opera equivalent (Opera Mini) which in turn is JUST as useless because you're using WiFi and not 3/4G... So save yourself the headache and get a full featured browser (I'm personally happiest with regular Opera, but there is of course Firefox, Dolphin, etc)
Just bought mine and rooted last night. I tried cm7 but didn't like how small the apps looked so i quickly flashed ics rom and it's pretty cool so far. The only thing is no sound and no video, but that's not a big deal for me. I noticed too it's not to responsive, didn't really play with it before i rooted, so not sure if it's rom related or just the way it is

If you use a launcher such s Go Launcher you would of been able to change your grid size. Thus making your icons bigger. I will share a screenshot in a bit.

Well, I have a question regarding the software uses. Say I buy the Kindle Fire.. will I be able to borrow books from the Kindle store if I were on a custom ROM or do I have to be on their stock ROM in order to borrow any books and use that feature/advantage.
to borrow books you have to be on the stock rom - so far as i know - i don't borrow books - the same for premium vod
Or to play it safe, you can use the STOCK rom with a custom launcher like the GO Launcher (shown above by a member).
You can still customize it with a stock rom, which I do it, cuz CM7 is not all that great on Kindle Fire yet (at least from my experiences).
Kindle Fire is great. It's fast, responsive, but the amazon apps aren't all THAT great. Best of all, you can switch between your Kindle and custom launcher at any time instantly.
How do you set up Google voice so you can send/receive texts? I just use Google voice for getting my vmails I don't use it for anything else.

Thanks! Took your advice and went back to cm7. Its definitely better this time around. Ics is nice, but too many bugs. Plus a lot of apps dont support ics yet. Much more responsive too compared to ics.

Hi, this was a time and $$ sensitive issue - I'm a medical student trying to prepare for my last licensing (usmle) exam coming soon and can't get this website working on my N7 stock (no root) device.
Basically, I can't find a browser from google play store that will work well with this website (it's work friendly safe) below.
http://www.usmlerx.net/USmle/QMax/user/testdrive.aspx?step=2
To see what I mean : (go to above link 1st)
You have to click on Start Test Drive Now
It will then send you to 20 sample questions. If you click on the lower right (red - stop sign to end the exam), you will be brought back to the sample test with answers/explanations - having difficulty scrolling through these.
I have a side loaded Adobe APK (latest version available from adobe site) - scrolling and navigating with a logitech wireless mouse connected via OTG USB Cable (logitech unifying wireless usb adapter).
Unfortunately, they don't have an android supported version - Any help you all could guide me with, would be great!
I don't mind if the app is paid - I will go ahead and buy it... preferably any browser that isn't bloated with ads.
Also tried purchasing Xscope browser and have had some success with it - but the navigation is a bit shaky... and it's causing me to lose focus on actually studying the practice exam content.
Tried using dolphin HD and chrome - no flash support (at least it told me it doesn't work when trying the link above) and firefox (and firefox beta) - the flash content is fuzzy and I can't scroll up or down on the page.
I have Adobe_FlashPlayer_11.1.115.17 installed and I can scroll through the results using the stock JB browser (not chrome, which doesn't support Flash).
Browser: http://db.tt/fYpinveQ
Flash: http://db.tt/bF1Vw8om

Thanks for replying; along with the dropbox links.... I have the last ICS adobe flash installed (from adobe site) -
Regarding that link to the browser... can I install this on stock OS (without root)? Are there any risks (e.g. security) or bugs? Meaning, can we find/get updates in the future on whatever it may be?
I did see a previous thread in the app section talking about AOSP browser, but requires root -
Good question. It's the standard browser that comes with JB. I'm not running the stock ROM (I'm using CM10), so I can't verify if that browser is in installed with the stock ROM on the Nexus.
Go into the apps drawer and if Browser is there, then you are good to go.

Unfortunately, the linked apk can't be installed (as per the notice displayed); -thanks for replying back.
Can any others try that link I posted above or suggest a flash friendly alternative browser to non-root stock users?
Firefox displays everything fuzzy / Xscope browser has this built-in left//right page swipe and I can't scroll down the vertical bar or page without activating it....
The biggest bummer of all is, I can't zoom the flash content text nor scroll within the flash window to read - forcing me to use the vertical navigation bar to the right - again, if you follow the link+instructions on from the OP or below, you can see what I mean.
Appreciate the continued help -
@Billgoss- can you maybe (or someone else) try that link and instruction from OP or below, to tell me how the navigation/scrolling is?
You'll have to:
1. Visit http://www.usmlerx.net/USmle/QMax/user/testdrive.aspx?step=2
2. Click on Start Test Drive Now
It will then send you to 20 sample questions.
3. If you click on the lower right (red - stop sign to end the exam) END BLOCK
4. you will be brought back to test analysis/results page
5. Click "Review Test" - sample test with answers/explanations - having difficulty scrolling through these. This is the most important part - if you click through any question from 1-20 , must be able to read all the explanations to right/wrong choices.
I realize this might not be one of the cool topic posts, but would love to see some of our medical students use other android alternatives like these N7's

Thanks for this again - how do we prevent the update notification specific for an application?
I like receiving the update notifications for other things, but if I didn't update Dolphin - update notification would always remain on that notification bar. I understand you can globally disable updates (never did this), but how does everyone go by this usually on specific .APKs?

I'm currently running stock unrooted (although that's going to change within the next 2 hours).
Flash player works great in aurora (google it because i can't post a frickin link), I've found it to be much more stable than xscope (and free-er-er). No pixelation in the latest build for me and adblocker thrown in is always a plus. edit: i forgot to mention the one limitation. although it wasnt this way when i first installed aurora. you cant full screen flash videos. i just zoom to fit the screen though.
using flash player 11.1.115.17
Strange.
I have stock Chrome and it supports Flash.
U may try xScoope browser. I just tried your test page and everything worked just fine. (don't mention that I didn't understand a single word)

Boat Browser with Flash side-loaded works fine with your testing site. So far, it's the best browser I've found for the Nexus 7.

Or the skyfire browser
Try :

Very quick, clean and professional.
Best of all it has very good flash support.
Couldn't find a section for the HTC Desire 626S so I decided to go ahead and post it here so if my post is the wrong section, admins please correct it for me. Thanks
1. First make sure Developer Options is enabled on your device:
a. Go to 'Settings' head to 'Security' and check "Unknown Sources."
b. Next enable USB Debugging: Go to 'Settings' and scroll down until you access "About." Go to 'Software Information', and access "More". Rapidly tap on "Build number" until it tells you that you have enabled developer options. Now go back and Developer Options now appears above "About". Go in and check "USB debugging" and "OEM unlocking" (to allow bootloader to be unlocked).
2. Unlock your bootloader: this flashing procedure will wipe all the data on your device for security reasons - there's no way around that. It’s recommended that you backup what you want manually.
a. Access HTCDev which will provide the instructions to do so. Sign in first and select your device model [HTC Desire *]. First you will need to update to the latest Java, and download and install the latest Android SDK and latest HTC USB Driver v4.16.0.001.
b. Power off phone, press and hold Volume Down and then press and hold Power; hold both buttons to start the device into Bootloader mode.
c. Connect the device to the computer via a USB cable
d. Now we must get the 'Identifier Token' for unlocking the bootloader.
* With your device still in the 'Download mode', navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools". With the folder opened in a new window, hold Shift key and right click onto a blank part of the opened window and select "Open command window here" like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
* When command window opened, type:
fastboot oem get_identifier_token
You will get the series of strings like this:
* Now copy the whole string and paste it into your favorite editor like Notepad and delete "(bootloader)," "<<<< Identifier Token Start >>>>" and blank space, so that the resulted string should appear like this:

* Now copy it and go to the HTCDev site (assuming you’re already signed in) and scroll down to find step #7:
* Now enter the copied string in the box provided and press the "Submit" button.
e. You will be sent an email with the unlock key as a file attachment.
* Download the attachment "Unlock_code.bin" and place it in the adb folder.
* Press Shift key and right click onto a blank part of the opened window and click "Open Command Window here".
* In the command prompt type: fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin. In the command prompt you will see the following message:
* You will now see the disclaimer: Use the Volume buttons to highlight your choice, and make your selection with the Power button. Selecting Yes, wil reset your phone to factory settings, and your bootloader will be unlocked and selecting No, will reboot your phone and no changes will be made.
* To re-lock your bootloader, in the command prompt, type: fastboot oem lock.
Note: This will not restore the factory default lock, but will simply re-lock the bootloader so no further changes can be made
f. Now it’s completed, your phone will be rebooted and it will start automatically with the unlocked bootloader.

O ok cool. So was this guide helpful.
So what is the advantage to unlocking the bootloader if there is no root solution or no custom ROMs? Is there any real reason to unlock at this point?

Well Idk if u are aware but when u unlock the bootloader, the device automatically resets to factory settings (all data lost). Someone such as myself who just got this phone would rather unlock the bootloader now (with nothing saved on the device) instead of waiting till a root solution becomes available down the line which would require me to backup all the things I find important on my device.

Sound logic. The exact logic I used. Unlock now and have a few apps blown away. However, one could always back up first but my Titanium Premium Backup wants root.
On a side note. I went to the HTC dev site to see if they had a kernel published and they don't.
Yeah, I'm aware that unlocking the bootloader resets the device - I was just wondering if there was a reason to unlock at this point. I already have my device fully setup - although, honestly, that's the great thing about Google/Android, even if I have to start from scratch, I can have it automatically reload all of my apps, app data, etc, so there really isn't much manual work involved in reseting an Android device.
Anyway, nice writeup and hopefully someone will find a way to root this thing soon - it's a hell of a phone for $80 (MetroPCS)! Can't beat the monthly fees either. This is the first Android device (out of over 10) that I couldn't root - although to be perfectly honest, so far it really hasn't caused me any grief - other than not being able to remove some of the system apps that I don't use...
The DotView case is pretty cool too - screen is always protected and I can see notifications/answer calls, etc without even opening the case! Expensive for what it is, but cool nonetheless....

Thanks by the way. The DotView case looks nice but that's hella expensive, especially when u can go on ebay and find some going for at least $6 (from China), but more power to u.
Yeah, I saw some of those on Ebay but they were either purple (or some other ugly color) or they weren't genuine HTC cases (don't trust the chinese knock-offs). That and it would have taken 3 or 4 weeks to get here, by which time I would have most likely scratched the **** out of my phone!
I also didn't see a genuine HTC black 626s dotview case for anywhere near $6. Saw a few for other models, but not the 626. If you have a link to one, I'd appreciate it because for that price, it wouldn't hurt to have a spare. Now that I already have one, I don't care how long it takes to get here for the spare. I really do like the idea behind the dotview case though. Phone is always protected buy still useful at the same time.
Thanks.

Thanks.

Yeah, I was thinking just like u. I went and got me a case from my local Metro PCS dealer right here (the version I have on ebay). I didn't wanna wait either and catch any scratches on it. Got mine for $15 which is a drop in the bucket in my opinion.

I rather try a root option that requires me to use my PC instead of one that is on the fly. If I don't see a root option that meets those specifications within the next month, I'll probably use the kingroot method u suggested.

Alright, thanks. I'll look into it then
Kingroot does not work for the 626s. I believe that the difference is that the 626s runs Android 5.1 whereas the other 626 models run Android 4.4...
