[APP]AutoFolders - Automatic applications organizer - Android Software Development

These days, the number of apps on my phone took a hundred. It's hard to navigate through apps. So I decided to develop new app, which will sort all the apps and create a folder of apps by category on your phone's Home Screen. I found out that there's no such app on Market. Yes, there are apps with which you can do it all manually (Apps Organizer, Folder Organizer, etc). But dragging all 120 apps to folders by category, it's too bad. So I decided to develop my app sorter.
Tasks, features to be performed by the sorter.
Automatically sort applications by category (how to do this is the topic of another post).
Gives you possibility to create your own own categories.
Enables the correct choice of the category, if app categories choosen wrong it.
Developing such an app has took couple of nights, and now I can show you the first alpha version. While it's raw, may slow down in some places, it will all be fixed closer to release. And now I need your help in testing the app, mostly to improve definition of app categories. I think that if the app will determine at least 50% of application categories correctly, it will be excellent result (in the intelligence app not too much).
Here is a link to the application: autofolders.apk
How to use the application.
Usability and design of the app still unfinished, as it's alpha version. It will all be fixed closer to release. In the meantime, test its intellectual abilities.
How to make it work?
Install the application on the link above
Start it
Wait 10 seconds before the application will find all of your apps and display them.
Each app will be indicated in the list of its category.
Look at the percentage of wrong app category selections.
How to create a folder of apps on your home screen?
Tap and hold on the free space on home screen and choose-> Select Shortcut -> AutoFolders -> Select the category you want to add.
Thanks for your help.

Im... on the fence about that app. I cant understand why it would need to read my sensitive log data, or install anything directly.. So im rather glad for this app, I'll be giving it a try in just a little bit.

Sorry guys, AutoAppOrganizer is there and I am surprised that this app turns up on the main landing page of XDA.
No offence, but guys with programming talent should utilize it better. In particular, before starting a project, check whether something similar exists already.
No, Angry Birds analogy does NOT work here. Games are different from apps. You might need three versions of Angry Birds (I know I do) but I just need ONE SMS app, for example.
And I am also not a fan of the spontaneous 'support' that springs up in response to any adverse comments. 'Permissions' seems to be the scapegoat used to discredit CLEARLY SUPERIOR apps. Sorry guys, its doubly unfair to the app creator.

The "permissions" thing I stated isn't a scapegoat to discredit the developer. It's an actual concern. I mean I can fully understand it needing internet access, to check the list of apps against an internet database to see which app should be sorted into which category. But not the mass majority of the rest. "autoapps organizer" should essentially be an automated version of "apps organizer" yet "apps organizer" requires NO SPECIAL PERMISSIONS. So why in the @*#$ does it need to know my location, to read my logs, the devices serial/phone number, the ability to modify internal memory or have the ability to install apps.
So, i am rather glad someone decided to develop an auto sorting app. Because I am not going to use AutoAppOrganizer. Not when it requires the following permissions;
Your location
Coarse (network-based) Location
Access coarse location sources such as the cellular network database to determine an approximate device location, where available. Malicious applications can use this to determine approximately where you are.
Network communication
Full Internet Access
Allows an application to create network sockets.
Your Personal Information
Read Sensitive Log Data
Allows an application to read from the system's various log files. This allows it to discover general information about what you are doing with the device, potentially including personal or private information.
Phone Calls
Read Phone State and Identity
Allows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like.
Storage
Modify/Delete USB Storage Contents modify/Delete SD Card Contents
Allows an application to write to the USB storage. Allows an application to write to the SD card.
System Tools
Retrieve Running Applications
Allows application to retrieve information about currently and recently running tasks. May allow malicious applications to discover private information about other applications.
Prevent Device From Sleeping
Allows an application to prevent the device from going to sleep.
Network Communication
View Network State
Allows an application to view the state of all networks.
System Tools
Automatically Start At Boot
Allows an application to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the device and allow the application to slow down the overall device by always running.
Default
Directly Install Applications
Allows an application to install new or updated Android packages. Malicious applications can use this to add new applications with arbitrarily powerful permissions.

Yes I know that but I guess my comment was more related to the fact that this has been posted on front page, as if it was something brand new and not been done before.
Also your point about Angry birds is flawed and irrelevant.

This app is awesome just a small suggestion, maybe you could introduce themes to the app so that people may customize the look of the folders to match their homescreen Keep up the great work

Data Connection 2G/3G/H
This phone when used on Bell's own network, it can only do 3G & H
(this is not a hardware issue but rather a network issue, there is a topic about this discussion, link coming soon)
However once unlocked the have full 1G(Cuba!)/2G(EDGE)/3G/H on Fido, Rogers, AT&T and any other network that supports the 850/1900/2100 band for data communication
Pre-installed Apps:
TeleNav GPS Navigator if you are not online via 3G or WiFi, you'll get an error message "This application is not available" or something along those lines
The application is not free, it wants you to register for $10 a month, it's safe to uninstall after rooting
BellTV Remote PVR only works if you have a Bell digital cable box for TV, it's safe to uninstall after rooting
Tunes & Apps it's just an Advertisement URL link, it tries to go
Code:
ads.bwanet.ca/getnew.jsp?request=PDAdownload
the link is dead anyways, it's safe to delete after rooting
TV & Radio supposedly to Watch Live TV, Listen to Music and Talk Radio... but it doesn't work.
It might be only available to people on Bell network, the error messages says

my recommendation uninstall it if you are rooted, there are better Apps in Android Market that offers the same feature & service
Kobo it comes included with the latest official ROMs. You might want to keep it if you are an e-book reader. It channels you to their online catalog of e-books. Depending from each point of view, it can be categorized as another Advertisement or a Tool.
Personally I'll uninstall it (you'll need to be rooted), the only thing I'll ever read in my phone are PDF files, for everything else i got RSS feeds, tons of e-mails/SMS to go through an lots of websites to keep me busy and relaxed.
AllShare a simple to use App to share your files in the phone to other devices wirelessly.
Worth keeping? Yes
Layar is more of a fun tool than a real utility, it lets you catalog and get info of nearby places where you are standing, it requires the GPS to be ON-line. This App is based on the Anime feature in Eden of the East.
Worth keeping? Yes
Navigation Google Maps Navigation, a simple to use Navigation tool that works out of the box.
Worth keeping? Yes
ThinkFree Office requires activation, but it's completely Free as the name implies (unlike other Apps which claims to be "free" but is crippled one war or another, or with Ads.) you can open and create Microsoft Word Doc, Spread Sheet, and PowerPoint slides, all from the tips of your fingers.
It takes a bit to get used to navigating around the software to do what would normally have been a simple task in the PC.
Worth keeping? Yes
Samsung Apps List of available freebies:
- eBooks by Kobo (the other piece of the forced on ROM Kobo eBook Market)
- Social Hub Push Email and IM (as the name implies it does everything, it's quite good infact, it adds additional supported services to the original version, now it can do Google Accounts, Hotmail/Live Accounts, Yahoo Accounts, Facebook Accounts, Twiter Accounts, MySpace Accounts)
- RoadSMS (SMS that lets you see behind the phone, the road or whatever your phone camera seems to be pointing... great App to check out on girls on the restaurant table in front of you )
- Robert Parker (wine guide)
- Radio Companion (i find it rather interesting, it lets you sing karaoke to the radio station you are listening to... well sort of, it will scroll and display the lyrics as the song plays on the radio station)
- Asphalt5 (racing game, full version, completely free, notice this is not the Asphalt5 HD)
- Vlingo Voice (voice control your phone, dictation, launch apps, etc)
- Krazy Kart Racing (from Konami) cartoonish kart racing game, fun!
- Facebook for Samsung the name says it all it's a new facebook apps from Samsung
- Movies App for movie show times, trailers and reviews

You may want to add something in here about Bell's lack of a 2g GSM network and checking if your phone has the download mode disabled or not. These seem to be 2 common questions on these forums about the Canadian I9000M.
Thanks for the reminder, yes this FAQ is a work in progress
The TV & Radio app is worth keeping if you are a Bell subscriber and into the idea. Basically it is a premium app, you have to pay for subscriptions to channels. But you can access content like live NHL games, HBO, etc.
It also lets you subscribe to and listen to Sirius sat. radio.
But if you don't have a 6GB plan it's a total non-starter.

Edit: alright, I think I found'em. What's tn55-android-blur.apk? The TeleNav application by any chance?
updated
- Krazy Kart Racing (from Konami) cartoonish kart racing game, fun!
Any chance of an apk dump of "Social Hub Push Email and IM" and "Radio Companion" apps? (assuming that they are legal to share, these aren't in my JP3 app store).
I would also ask for Krazy Kart Racing, but pretty sure thats a paid app and I don't wanna break any rules lol..
Otherwise, if no-one can share anything... what firmwares are these apps available for? just the non-beta ones? or just for the bell i9000?
Yes, bell i9000m JH2 is the latest official ROM from Kies
it is compatible with I9000 international, but you will need Odin to flash it
or do the KIES cheat as mentioned in another topic, to make the changes in the registry, so it will download Bell JH2 for you.
But as far as i know, if they are included as freebies inside Samsung Apps, it should also be available to the international i9000 ROMs with Samsung Apps
Thanks for the reply AllGamer
Sorry that I'm a little confused, are the radio and social hub push email included in the firmware or downloadable from the samsung apps store?
Do you know how samsung app store determines phone version? Can we fake this through build.prop or something to download the latest apps, or does it have a more complicated check?
Only cause it seems that the number of apps available to JP3 is limited (and I wanna stick to this firmware for now, it's awesome )

Google spikes 21 malicious apps with big download counts from the Market
Google just removed some 21 apps from the Market in the last day from a publisher going by Myournet for doing all sorts of naughty things to your device. Offenses include attempting to root your phone, uploading phone information (including IMEI) to who-knows-where, and -- most egregiously -- adding a backdoor that allows additional code to be pulled down and executed.

you can simply un-install it, it doesn't really do anything to your phone until you run the app
and even if you did, uninstalling it will remove the problem
Flashing the phone is a bit over the top it's enough to do a system wipe if you want to be 100% sure, and then restore all your apps from backup, excluding the fake ones

This is actually an incomplete answer.
As noted on Android Police, (I'm new so I can't link there) these apps open a backdoor, which can download additional apps that can do *anything*. The original app doesn't do much on its own. But, removing the infected app will leave behind the additional malware introduced through the backdoor.
Is there anyone who knows if these apps actually worked? What I mean is if the games for example were actually games? The reason I ask is that there is a bubble shoot like game installed on a friends phone which works (not sure if it's the one mentioned above).
So would you be able to recognize that malicious app in that way?
Edit: just noticed on the Lookout Blog that they actively send out a patch to detect these apps (if I read it correctly):
http://blog.mylookout.com/2011/03/s...-found-in-official-android-market-droiddream/
So if you have not yet scanned for those apps, do it now ;-)
Thanks for the information!
How to remove and consequences
First i manyally uninstalled the "Advanced Barcode Scanner" of KingMall2010.
Second i scanned my device with Kasparsky and Lookout, both didn't find any threads.
In the end i performed a reset to factory settings and a format of my SD-card.
Can anyone please tell me if this actions are sufficient to completely whipe this malware of my device?
Also i would like to know if this malware actively sent my private data to servers, or that it just opened a backdoor for later use. And if my data is already sent, what are the consequences and which actions should i take to do something about it.

What you've done so far seems sufficient enough to clear the malware from your phone system. Even if it copied a backup on your SD card (internal & external) if you've wiped both then it should be ok.
In regards to already leaked data, I would immediately change my passwords to gmail, emails, facebook, ebay etc or any other site that you may have used on your phone.

Thanks for your quick reaction. It makes me a little more comfortable. Indeed i already changed my password's.
I already called my phone provider, but apparently could not tell me whether the IMSI (international mobile subscription identity) and SIM card serial number are sufficient information to clone my SIM card. This is the information that would be sent by the malware to remote servers.
Therefor after work i go to get a new SIM card. It's better to be safe than sory after all.
I'm still not convinced on running a constant anti-malware app on my phone. Even with a good processor, my cpu cycles are a precious resource to keep my phone running light and fast.
How heavy on system performance is lookout? Does it only activate and scan when new material is installed?

3). Battery Calibration
Overveiw:
Calibrate your battery when you think it's miscalibrated.Calibration needs to be done after flashing a new ROM, but you can calibrate any time you think your battery is miscalibrated. This program does it by removing the batterystats.bin system file. The OS generates a new clean batterystats file soon, thus any fake information from the previous ROM is removed. It's suggested, but not necessary, to let the phone fully discharge after calibration, then charged to 100% without break.
The app shows your actual battery status, and only allows you to start the calibration (i.e. removes the file) when it's fully charged, unless you force earlier calibration.
The voltage meter can be useful too. Full charge is around 4200mV.
There is an option to beep when 100% is reached so you don't have to closley follow the changes.

DiskUsage will show you in graphical form a breakdown of your internal and external disk as well as your partitions like /system, /data, /dbdata, /sys,...pretty much any storage you have plus you can long-press the entry and it takes you right to that app's settings to say maybe clear cache or data. Also has non-root functions (but what fun is that).
ShootMe will take screen shots and save them to your sdcard. Handy for showing off, helping someone else with info (like showing app permissions or something along those lines) or showing what is wrong/happening so it can be properly diagnosed.

Speaktoit Assistant
I wanted to share this really cool app I found on the market the other day. Root isn't necessary for it which is why I'm posting it here and not above in the guide/list, it's called "Speaktoit Assistant" and it's the Android Equivalent of Siri but better! Check it out, it is completely free!!!
Another pretty cool virtual assistant is called "Vlingo Virtual Assistant", it is also free but in my opinion it isn't as in depth and neat as Speaktoit. Check out the video below to get an idea of what Speaktoit is all about...
Siri (iPhone 4s) vs Speaktoit for Android:
Credits- I did not make this video. Credit goes to robifis for the video.
Note- This video is slightly outdated, Speaktoit as been updated a few times since the time the video was posted. This is what has been updated...
1. Some listening issues are fixed
2. Improved geolocation
3. Smoother conversation history swiping
4. A few other minor (but also important) bugs are fixed
Thanks I'm going to get these ASAP!

Apologies, glazed right over that. Glad to see you put Root Explorer up automagically. That app is amazing.
Now that the list is expanded (sorry), you may want to add Titanium Backup paid and note that the scripts run automatically (no pressing install/done, etc) and runs a LOT faster... other features too, but that is the main attraction.
Rom Manager paid is nice too, but perhaps not needed for people on xda.
No need to apologize. Things happen and it's cool. The list needed to be more open anyhow.
Also, I will be updating the list to include a description of Titanium Backup pro and other pro, plus, or full app versions.
What do you think of ROM Toolbox? (by JRummy16) I haven't used it yet, just found it, but seems it would enable me to use a lot of this stuff from a single app! Appreciate your guides and advice, best I've seen here!!

[App/1.5+/Open-source/Root and Non-root] Permanent screen off for the Visual Impaired

Open source app development project: Permanent screen off for the Visual Impaired
Short summary
This is an app development project that turns off the Android screen permanently yet keeps the touchscreen and other features active and functional for the visual impaired.
Introduction & Goals of the project
There are many Android users who are blinded. And to them, they access the app mainly using TalkBack or other Screen Reader app. That also means that the screen is basically useless to them. They don't need to look at the screen yet they need to be able to use touchscreen.
This project is to create an app that will turn the screen completely off (100% off) yet let the user use the phone as normal.
Assuming that the blind takes more time than normal user to perform an action, it dramatically saves the device's battery.
The app must be easy to use and tailored to visual impaired user.
The app automatically runs with the device.
The app must be free and advertisement-free.
Background
I am the developer of the project and I recruit the interest of other developers / users as well. I am the developer of Screen Standby app, which this project is based on.
Device requirements
- Running Android 1.5 (Cupcake) or above
- (Optionally) Rooted for best battery-saving. The app works with non-root device though, only rooted device achieves complete dark
Instruction
1) Download the apk and Install the app
2) Run the app at least once
3) Select Enable app from menu
4) If the system asks for Superuser access, select always remember and allow
5) To disable, select "Disable app" from the menu and restart the device.

NOTE: Please read
1) Always use a screen reader (e.g TalkBack) with the app. In case you want to use your device without the screen
2) This app will permanently switch the device's screen off when it is active. To turns the screen back on, select "Disable app" or uninstall app completely and reboot
3) To uninstall from ADB, go to a shell and type: adb uninstall com.nkahoang.screenoffvisualimpair
Download
Currently the app can be downloaded from attachment section of this post. When it is stable enough, it will be ready to be released on Play Store for free download.
Source code can be downloaded in second post
If you know any Android user who is blinded, let them use the app and report. Any feedback is welcomed

Hello,
While putting it on the Play store is a good idea, there are a few blind folks on XDA like myself who would be happy to give this app some testing beforehand.
Thanks for posting to the eyes-free list, and thanks for developing this app!
correct this is also needs to be on the playstore as screen off or something easy that some of us can find more easily on the playstore . all of us blind people thank you for the app that hav found it but for those who cant can you please turn it into an APK installer or make it easy to install from playstore. as a lot of blind people don't know how to install zip files on android. if you can give me a quick tutorial I can explain to the eyes free list. I am a blind intermediate user of android. I do understand rooting, installing custom roms and gapps and installing apps for rooted devices but some of the rest on the eyes fre are a bit limited here so if you can give them an APK installable file it would be much easier to install rather then a zip package in which they have to figure out what to do with it.

Well done OP.
You are a hero for undertaking this venture. I wish you more success.
I still might have a use for this in my Android devices that I'm using as Network Cameras using the IP Webcam app.
But I will have to test it out to see if it acts the way I need it to (I'm not at home yet, but I will try it.)
On Android 2.x I'm able to have a camera app run fine in the background or with the screen off, but on Android 4.0 and newer, the camera doesn't work completely if you turn off the screen or switch to a different app.
I'm wondering, will this app allow me to have the screen completely off (on a rooted device) but still have the camera use all the processor it needs for perfect Network Camera functionality?
Thanks.

The camera will continue functioning normally. However, you may want to consider using my other app, Screen Standby # Root, also on XDA to achieve that. This app is tailored specifically to aid the blind in particular.
nkahoang i dont know if you got my email i sent a while back but i was looking for a app like this but be able to close my tablet and plug a keyboard and a mouse into my dock and hook it up to my tv and use my tv as a monitor screens cracked and touchscreen capability are all down the drain, would be great if you could add this feature to this app so i could finally find a use for my tablet again and as always keep up the good work.:good::fingers-crossed:
I have another use that I would like to ask for. Could you integrate Tasker support? I ride a motorcycle and have a bluetooth kit installed on my helmet. I leave my phone in my pocket or a glove box and therefore the screen is of no use to me. Yet if I ask Google Now to navigate somewhere, it opens navigation that keeps the screen on draining battery quickly. This really sucks as I don't have an outlet to plug into while riding. So, if I could setup a profile to activate this app while riding and disable it when I'm done, that could help me out a lot.
hello I was wondering I there has been further development on this app.

Hello, Now I am using Shades app by the eyes free team at Google. That is an app published to the google play. However after reading the description in the first post I think this app might be capable of saving more of the battery juice. I have just installed it on my SGS2 running CM-10 however if this is already know I would like to ensure this is really more powerfull than the Shades app I was tallking about.
Thanks and greetings

ADB SMS Notify has been completely revamped to run much better now.
*April 10, 2014*
--Download:
View attachment 2688806
--Changelog:
- Support for custom user created profiles for easily supporting new applications
- Support for custom icons per notification type
- Custom notification messages (Make it your own!)
- Work in progress GUI for managing ADBMNC
- Support for MMS confirmed (the now outdated ADB SMS Notify also supports MMS as well)
- Combines Radio and Logcat and only uses what is needed to keep memory resource low
- Fun info: This tool also happens to work just fine in Linux running under WINE. Your mileage may vary though. A python version is in the works however.
This tool is also very helpful for developers as you can easily and quickly configure what you want to watch in the logcat with just two lines in the settings file and you'll instantly get a desktop notification. The settings file looks like this:
View attachment 2688805
--Configuration HOW-TO:
This configuration file allows you to easily add support for more applications or, if you're a developer, watch for a specific event. The idea is if you want to add support for your favorite application such as WhatsApp, Facebook, or whatever, you can share your configuration with others and expand the functionality of this app.
-Icons:
Here's an icon set to use to start you off: View attachment Icons.zip
1) The left side is the actual icon name you will use. This must be in the same directory as the executable. ADBMNC supports icos and pngs. Feel free to test for other formats if you like.
2) The right side is the match. In the example above, "< SMS_ACKNOWLEDGE" is the event that is shown in the log when a new SMS or MMS message is being received.
The Icon section is optional. The default will be "Notify.ico" if no icon is set.
-Radio:
The left side is the message to display.
The right is the string to match to trigger the notification.
Everything in the Radio section will only match in the logcat output of "adb radio"
-Logcat
The same as Radio except only matches output in adb logcat -v.
--To Do:
- Add support for regex matching to allow even more robust notifications
- Complete Windows GUI
- More customizable options such as fonts and color
- user configurable events (to launch a custom application on the desktop side or launch an intent on the android side)
- Finish work on python version to support Linux and Mac OS X (visit my github to see the progress)
- Auto updater to keep in sync with the latest updates
- Support for ADB over wireless
- Handle multiple devices gracefully
[Features that will require root are listed below and will be optional and opt-in only]
- Read text messages and display the message content and recipient instead of "New SMS Message"
- Reply to text message via desktop
- Compose new messages via desktop
What is this? (see below)
*Legacy Version and Information Below*
Hello all! I've been following XDA silently (as in never posted anything) and finally decided to contribute something small and hopefully embark on a journey of becoming part of the community. I wasn't able to post this topic under the development section as I did not have enough posts so forgive me if this is the incorrect place. (*This thread was originally in General Discussion)
Let's move on and get to the point! When I'm at work I tend to leave my phone on silent, therefore, I constantly find myself checking to see if I have a new message. I decided to create this small and simple program that notifies me on the desktop instead. This can be easily customizable as well as adapted to any other useful applications such as launching a program or the likes whenever you receive an SMS message. (I haven't tested with MMS).
This takes advantage of the adb radio log. So, every time you get a new SMS message, a box slides out to notify you. Simple. I should note that the desktop notification is MUCH faster than your phone.
I tested it with a Samsung Galaxy Note (quincyatt) running on Jellybean CM 10.1 but it should theoretically work with any phone.
Great! How do I use it?
Step 1) Enable USB Debugging
Step 2) Extract zip and run program. Done! No root or permissions are required.
Note: The program is designed to restart itself in the event you unplug your phone so feel free to unplug your phone as many times as you like. If people find this useful, I plan to add wireless support via ADB over wifi so you no longer have to keep it plugged in to receive notifications.
I have attached the source code for those who are wary of running an executable as I have no reputation here yet at the time of this writing. Compile it using AutoIt and you should be good to go. I hope this helps anyone out there!

I'm glad you like the idea! To answer your question, it currently cannot as it only reads from the radio log (I.E. cellular log). It may be possible however if TextPlus provides enough details in the log cat output. I'll investigate and see if it's possible.

Yes, the phone needs to be connected. As stated in the post, I plan to add wireless support so you only need to be on the same network. But for now, I will keep it simple until it gains some attention.
Regarding replying from the desktop, the application cannot read, write, or send sms messages - hence no permission or root is required. It merely keeps track of the log output and increments a counter.
I originally had no plans to implement such an option but I've read around and found that it is possible to send and read sms messages via adb but it will require root. I'll continue investigating this option and update the first post soon. It will be an optional feature, however.

So I bought a new laptop running Windows 8. I added this to my various apps, and connected my Kindle Fire to ADB over Wi-Fi. It works like a charm!
However, I noticed that it was hogging a lot of CPU (about 60ish%!). Is this because I am connected over Wi-Fi, or does it just not play nice with Windows 8?
Oh, and I whipped up a quick icon. Let me know if you like it, hate it, gives you nightmares, etc. I've got a couple of others I'm working on as well.
Cheers!
My apologies for not updating this project in so long. I am desperately trying to keep up with my school work, job, volunteer work, and business projects.
I updated the first post. Change log has been updated as well. It has been optimized! Hopefully, this will resolve the CPU hog issues. Let me know if it doesn't.
Ph0enix: I like the idea of the icon, particularly the green android! Not so sure about the red icon as that is typically associated with error messages. Perhaps a different color such as a shade of blue (much like the icon of this thread) to denote an information instead?
Poll: For those of you who are still waiting for a Quick Reply from Desktop sort of feature, I am still working on it. It is actually very possible. I just need to extensively test it to be sure it is safe to use before I release it. Would you all prefer if it was designed such that:
A) The message body text would appear in the notification box and, upon clicking on it, will show a quick reply box to reply to it? The notifications will be on a timer (perhaps adjustable) just as it is now so it will disappear automatically after it goes away meaning you'll have to respond through your phone instead. (Relatively easy to implement)
B) A full blown GUI that keeps track of the conversations (This will take much more time to develop)
You know what Ph0enix? I actually like the icon as it is. It's more attention grabbing as opposed to the all white default. Kudos!

Any news on this? I can totally understand trying to manage time (I work 50 hours a week and have class myself). This app has a lot of potential. I'll test anything you've got, if of course, you're still working on it.
And I'm glad you like the icon . I thought I said so before, but I guess not (sorry)

I am very happy to hear you have interest in this project as much as I do!
So far, my findings involve using root over adb and directly querying the sms database only for retrieving messages. I am not quite sure how well this will behave while the phone is in use in terms of stability as it accesses an sqlite database.
I have also found two ways to send an sms. One method involves a temporary sms screen appearing while sending the text message (but does not require root). The alternative involves installing an app that acts as an intent service to be able to silently send sms messages in the background (when you send a message through the PC desktop..root also not required for sending).
Nothing strikes me as bulletproof safe to use but I may eventually upload an experimental version surrounded with red warnings for those who are willing to test it.

I'll still beta test.
