Complete Brick on SGT2 Question - Galaxy Tab 2 General

I have been reading a lot on the forums but a bit lost on one thing. If I can connect a USB dongle to the port and the Dongle has Rx/Tx/GND/Vcc inside of the dongle, then why can't I jtag that way like I did on my Android 2x WM8650?
It came with a dongle with 2 USB and ethernet ports on it and when I opened it, lo and behold it had a a spot for me to solder a header for jtag. I was able to backup mu Uboot and CFE.
Could this not be done with the right cable to that port on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch? Mine only had WIFI and bluetooth.
It is not bricked but would like to know my options if I were to brick it other than sending it out for another company to open it and jtag from the board itself.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and try to get me the best possible answer.

PC GPS receiver on Wizard...possible?

I've been given an older gps receiver that connects to a pc via usb. The driver used in that instance is a usb to serial driver and ends up connecting to one of the COM ports. I was wondering if it may be possible to connect the receiver to my Wizard. I've got an adapter that will enable me to at least plug the receiver into my phone, but I'm not really sure how to get the phone to recognize the receiver.
Does anyone know of an app that will allow me to use the mini usb port as a serial port in any way. I know this may be a long shot, but wanted to try. I can try to write something myself in C# if need be to intercept the messages, but I don't really know how to receive those messages through a COM port on the phone. Thanks!!!
By the way, I'm using an unlocked 8125, running WM6 Most Beautiful.
The problem is actually the Wizard doesn't have a USB Host so the RS232 to USB adapter you might be thinking of won't work here. As for getting it to work with the PC, perhaps if the PC is providing the GPS as a service?
I see. I've got it working on the PC, but could probably write something to get it to the phone, but might be a little pointless if I'm already connected to a laptop.
So, it looks like the only way to connect a peripheral to the Wizard is through Bluetooth. Think that is a fair assessment?

Yup. There are a few threads about that also.

[Q] Anyone find a Serial Console yet?

I'm trying to find a serial console, hopefully to access u-boot, but I'm not having any luck.
I found 4 possible candidates on the main board.
JP1 is near the WiFi card and has mostly 3.3v on the lines.
JLTE1 is near the power LED, and has 3.3v on 2 of the lines.
JLTE2 is hidden under the front camera cable, and also has 3.3v on one of the lines.
Last is JP6, which is near the 3G connector, and also has 3.3v on 1/2 the lines.
-- dag nabit, can't post images yet --
I've hooked a scope up to all pins of these jumpers during boot and reboot, as that's when most of the serial console/kernel output would occur. But no luck.
So, has anyone found a serial console on the TPT? (or a schematic?)
Thanks!
I'm also looking for a serial port. Have you already checked the Dock connector? I think there is a chance that Lenovo made it on this port.
I have opened my Dock yesterday and also found some unpopulated PCB pads which are for HDMI.
Thanks!
Duh! I forgot about the dock connector, as I don't have a dock. Can you take a pic of the PCB? I'll order a dock, kinda handy anyway...
BTW, I also tried a USB/mini-PCIe adapter in the 3G slot. The kernel recognized the USB stick as /dev/sda, but would not mount it. So if you have root, you might want to make a mount point and rule for something like this.
Here's a cheap source for hardware:
www hwtools net slash Adapter slash PM3U dot html
The microSD option has potential, too. Make sure you get the USB, not the PCI versions. (As I'm pretty sure the PCI functionality is not available here.)
Someone harvasted a 3g mini pci modem from a lenovo laptop and installed it. The HC os had the drivers and the modem was recognized.
Yes, Ihave an Ericsson F5521GW 3G modem here. The tablet and Android recognize it and prompt me for a SIM card, which I don't have.
If you want it, I can mail it to you...
The mini-PCIe adapter for USB and microSDHC work fine. You just need to be root to mount them.
Don't know if this would help you guys or not
If you are looking for a serial output I have a http://www.g2microsystems.com/products/RN_270.
Basically it's a bluetooth to serial adapter. I use it on my phones and tablets with a free app called bluterm to connect to Cisco equipment with. Its pretty cool but pricey (work sprang for it).
There are a lot of different brands of these adapters (I had one from http://www.aircable.net as well that worked good).
Thanks Karl, but I'm looking to gain access to the u-boot loader. I want to hijack the boot and make it boot Linux off of the micro-sdhc card (installed in the 3G slot). Ideally I'll have it dual-boot.
I have a Trim-Slice PC on the way. It's also a Tegra-2, so theoretically, I can develop on Trim-Slice, save on micro-sd and boot from there.
However, those are some cool devices I could use for other projects. Thanks for the links!

Sorry for my late response. I have taken some pictures and uploaded them to rapidshare. I cannot post the link here so I will send you a pm
Wow, thanks for taking the time to do that!
BTW, it seems the rapid-charger cable is not available any more?
Found some dock details here: http rootzwiki com topic 8523-reverse-engineering-the-dock-charger
So, i finally got the dock. No luck in finding the console.
I disassembled the dock, and probed both the 20 pins that are soldered through the board and the 40 pins on the inter-board connector.
As root I did a "cat /dev/urandom > /dev/ttyS0" to generate output, but no luck. I did find the audio and microphone lines. (/dev/ttyS0 is defined as console on the kernel boot parameter line.)
There must be a RTS/CTS line that needs to be enabled...? Or perhaps it's simply not passed through?

[HW] usb and wifi broken

Hello,
I don't know if there is still some people here but I expose my problem.
As I have a Desire HD for more than a year, I wanted to give my magic to my sister but I also wanted to flash a new rom because the old CM did her time on this phone.
The problem is that the wifi and the usb are broken as I can't even charge the battery simply by plugging the usb cable. And with no electricity, there will be no file transfer.
Also, il work on a computer with no sdcard slot.
So there are 2 possibilities :
- I download everything with 3G (this should work with apps, but not for a rom)
- Repair the usb chip on the cellphone, and if possible the wi-fi too.
The second is my favorite, but is anyone know where to start this manipulation ?
(I have some skills in electronic and soldering).
Thanks for future replies

GPD XD OTG Issues

Hello everyone, I hope this is the right section where to post, I have scrolled down the home page until I've found this one. This is an android console based on Rockchip cpu so I guessed I'd give it a try with my problem. If not please forgive my dumbness and move the thread.
I have bought a GPD XD console that works very flawlessly beside one big huge damn problem I am not able to resolve.
One day I tried to hook it to my TV and looks great. Then I wanted to connect my 360 wired controller via USB otg. No luck. Then I tried ps3. Same. Ps4 controller? Again nothing appears on screen. Mouse, keyboards, flash drives, just nothing. Also updated it to last firmware. Tried 3 usb otg cables, 2 cheap one and one with gold plated connectors that costs more (dunno if this changes).
So I tried some of the methods I've found online to test the otg support and actually otg support is ok. What wasn't ok therefore, is that I had to download 3 xml files and putting then into permissions folder and allow them but still nothing happens. Downloaded then a vold file to put it into etc folder and again nothing works. The apps i've tried all tells me the otg support is ok but find me no otg signal
Actually usb port works for charging the device or make it visible to pc but this damn otg won't work.
I tried almost anything, . I am kinda noob at this but if usb works for charging and pc I can assume is a software issue and not an hardware one, or is it possibile the otg function depends on usb port "broken" even if usb port works for other operations?
Please I would be very glad if you could help me. Since it's passed too much time for a refund and send it back in China for a replacement will costs me a lot and takes like months if not one year as I've read around.
I guess I choose the wrong section

OTG Simultaneous Charging

Hey everyone I'm doing a car install of a galaxy tab a 7.0 and I have a joycon usb controller and flash drive I need plugged in to a powered otg hub I have. Everything works great but my hub only has a switch that goes between charge OR otg not both. Is there a kernel or custom otg cable someone can guide me to to make this possible?
Thanks!

Hi there,
Ditto for me. Have it working on Nexus 7 2013 and hoping to do the same on the Tab A (SM-T285). How far have you got? I'm about to setup a breadboard with a pot on pins 4 + 5 as a standard 100k doesn't seem to do it.
OTG simultaneous charging
Hi
I have the same requirement, apparently one needs a custom kernel where this is enabled. Have anyone made progress on this ?
Dang, saw this thread and hoped for more information. I am testing out an SM-P580 to replace my Nexus 7 (2012) and need to see if OTG and charging work together. I am hoping to find some time later this week to connect it up to the car and see what works and what does not. The biggest headache is the charger port is reversed compared to the port on the Nexus 7, so currently, I cannot see the screen to test anything. Hoping that OTG + Charging will work, because at that point then things (hopefully) get easier and I just need to fabricate mounting the tablet in the dash.
Fitting a 10" tablet while making it look at least semi stock is not going to be the easiest thing in the world, so I am hopeful of getting everything working before starting to tear my car apart.

Did you find a solution? Which device did you use instead of Nexus 7?

Nothing yet, the Samsung I have did not work with OTG + charging and I did not want to pay $50 for an adapter that has so so reviews at best. At the moment I am getting set to try an LG G-Pad 8.0, which I am fairly confident will work as it has 2 USB ports, a full sized and a micro. The only problems I can see with this are that the USB ports are on opposite ends of the device, which might make it difficult to actually integrate into my dash, I am debating removing the rear cover and seeing if I can relocate the full size USB port or both to plug into the back instead of the top/bottom. The other problem is, for this particular model at least, finding any updated ROM's / root is proving difficult. It's an LG UK-495, would be cool to find some ROM's and possible SIM unlock it as well, I could the put a Google Fi chip in there and use it for calls right from the dash.
