[Q] Thinking purchasing a Nexus 7 but only a "C90" model - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
As above, I was wondering if the manufacturers code on websites is any way to tell....
At ebuyer.com the mf code is.. 90OK0MI1100550U
Perhaps the "90" suggests C90? Or am I dreaming here?!
Thanks

Serial number is printed in the box, that is not the serial number, my serial number start with C7O
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?

As Mach stated above, there is no 0 after the month digit in the serial , it's an O. Most people on here mistake it for a zero, and that long string just sounds like an internal stock number or something for the site.
Best way to tell if it matters to you is to check it yourself in person on the bottom of the box before you buy

People are reporting screen lifts even on a C90. I got a replacement due to a defect with the touch screen responsiveness and its a C80. So far so good.

Thanks guys, I guess it's pot luck still, only thing stopping me from getting one of these

I'm really hoping its just a matter of bad batches, my new replacement is a C80 and I find it a lot more responsive compared to my previous one I returned.
Don't like this put you off as its still a great tablet for its price range.
My only advise for anyone buying one is to ask about the warranty policy. If you end up buying one from a store, don't wait till you get home to open it, open it at the store at least to see if it has screen lift and if so change it on the spot.

I just got a C8O device, and from the looks of it, it has having none of the issues on the older devices,
Your best bet is to buy it from the google play store though

I bought mine from a store as it was cheaper than Google play store, as it allowed me to barter and price match other stores. It also meant straight replacement on any defective ones I get without having to send it off and wait.
But I guess not everyone has that leisure or policy with their stores.

It seems to be more common after extensive use or gaming where it would generate more heat than say just browsing or reading an eBook.
Have you tried playing a game for about 20min and see if the touch screen still responds?

Nexus 7 buy or not buy!

I'm hoping to buy a Nexus 7 8GB from Google play. I think they have stock now. But I heard things about Nexus manufacturing defects. And I'm in outside of the Nexus selling countries. Hope to get it via a friend in US. So is it good choice to buy it now or should I wait for next batch? Does Google's current selling batch has defects?

I got mine in the UK and I have very slight screen yellow at the right hand screen, and I mean VERY slight. Apart from that everything is spot on!

The defects are the same with any device that you would get,and very few people have defects, its just that the people who have perfect nexus's are quieter

The headlines said few people experienced it. It's normal for defects to exist with a few amongst a million in every manufacturing process. If you get one, return it, even if you are paying for postage.

Depending on the defect, if possible, I would suggest waiting a little bit longer before sending the device in (if you ordered from Google). Judging by:

Yes, take the chance and get it when you can.
I was very fortunate to get one of the last three 16gb models in stock at Staples in Boston. It's flawless, and now that it's rooted, running EOS ROM, Motley Kernel and TWRP recovery, I couldn't be happier. Very sweet!

I would say buy it. For the price its very well worth it, if you get a bad device just send it back !
Think about it this way. People don't usually go on the internet to express how good a product is. But they usually go on the internet to express how bad there product experience is. So if everyone who owned a nexus 7 I am sure it would be a small percentage of people with defects. Just cross your fingers.

Bought a nexus 7 and still on the fence

So I bought a nexus 7 from office depot. It is unopened because after reading all the threads on here Im a little worried about the problems it will have. Im wondering if anyone has had any experience returning the device through office depot? Im also on the fence after hearing all the problems with the device it sounds like a huge headache. Looking to get some other users inputs on the nexus 7 device and if anyone's dealt with returning theirs at office depot. Also If you think I should purchase it from another store.
I've had no issues with the two I purchased from Staples. I wouldn't buy a pencil at Office Depot, the stores/people here SUCK!
I bought mine at Futureshop (here in Canada) and I was pretty hesitant as well in opening it after seeing all these threads about the issues people were having with theirs. But to my relief it was a good model. No visible defects with it.
Staples has a 14 day return policy on electronics. Keep that in mind when buying in store.
This is what all these negative threads are doing. Just open and start using, it's a great device.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I bought it at ABT in Glenview, IL. I had a problem with mine and ABT did not have any issue to exchange it for me.
I have not shopped at office depot for a while but when I did, i never had any problem return/exchange.

Office Depot has the same policy but once it's open only store credit. What's Google plays return policy?

You can return for a full refund at Staples if there is a problem with the device, even though it's been opened.

You're not gonna see everyone praising it on forums, they are here to resolve issues and report problems. My 7 is flawless.

You bought it already. Just open it and find out. It's completely worth it if it's got a good display. And if it's defective, you can get it exchanged.
And I'm saying this as a person that has gotten two defective Nexus 7s and am currently waiting on number 3 (from Google Play). At least with your retail store purchase, you can exchange it the same day (if they have stock) if it's defective.
I got mine from Staples a week ago tomorrow. An absolutely flawless unit as far as I can tell. It was the only Nexus they had in stock, but it has no issues.
If there are in fact problems with it, I am obviously less observant/picky than other owners. I am yet to notice anything wrong
I wish people would stop saying the same exact thing in each of these threads....
nexus 7 is a fast and great little device.
go buy it now if you get a bad one take it back until your happy

The first batch of Nexus 7s seem to be a little faulty, but that's expected with any brand new product. I just got mine from Staples on Sunday and it's perfect. They said their previous shipment was defective and had to send it back and mine was from the new batch that had just come in the previous day. If it's defective, return it and get another one. Easy enough.
Got mine from Office Depot a week ago and it is flawless. None of the problems people here are reporting.

Buy 2nd Nexus 7 to increase no of games installed

Have you guys considered to own a second nexus 7 to increase the games storage on nexus 7. My first unit has some problems but it was perfect in other departments so I didn't replace it and now I am happy with it. I love my nexus 7 so I am considering to get another one to increase the game storage. However I don't want my 2nd unit to have any of the defects so should I wait more or flawless units are already available in abundance?

Do out mean get a 16GB model?
As for the issues, I have a new batch(bought on Sunday) and the only real issue is screen flickering. But if you don't play games at low brightness then you probably won't notice that. I also have very slight lift on the left side, its only noticeable because it clicks if you press it. Its definitely us able.
So I don't think Asus have soled the problems in all the new batches, so there's a chance that if you get another, it will have problems.

don't accept a flickering and squishy screen. I have both of those issues and my replacement is on its way to me now. Google customer service is so quick and easy and you have a defective tablet...dont settle. what if your issues get worse?
I find it interesting that you would actually consider buying a second tablet just for games, seems a tad excessive. If gaming is that important, then buy a dedicated machine? I think it would do you better.

Hi,
I've bought mine from ebuyer on Thursday and its a C8. Tiny bit of screen lift, but its not an issue at the min. Might be a good idea to give them another go.
If you don't want to, Tesco could be a good idea. They refunded me when I was out of the 28 day warranty immediately and had no problems with them. My first one was a C7 with screen flicker.
Hi
Tescos are out of stock everywhere instore and ive heard the return process is not good if done online

I had two from Tesco, both had defects, returned with no issue - other than it taking a few days to sort, but I did get £20 for free from them lol!
Then I got one from my local Asda store, that also had defects so I went in and they swapped it there and then with no hassle! Plus you get 28 days return with them!
Asda dont have them either only online and collect from store.
May try them later after i play with a tab 2 7.0 in pcworld.

That's strange, my local Asda has a very small electronics part but they had two in stock and I ended up having both haha (well only one to keep)
You should maybe try another Asda store? I personally didn't like the Galaxy Tab, I find it too cluttered with all the Touchwiz stuff and it didn't feel as smooth as the Nexus.
Ok my local asda has a couple c80 units in stock so im picking one up later.
Hope its ok as this will be my last try with asus/google tablets.

How do I RMA?

I know its simple to get a device replaced. My n4 has something under the glass on the bottom half of the screen nearest the bezel. It was there from buying it but it's been more than 15 days. What's the best way for me to replace the phone from Google?

Hi just click on your order from the email receipt you should have received if you ordered through Google Play. From there it should have a number to call regarding your order. That's the number for the Google play store. Not sure what country you're in but the phone should have a years warranty (I'm in the UK). This should cover it for faults and defects.
Not being mean but it's easy to do. It even said "if you need help with your order call ..."
That was on my order confirmation I got when I ordered my Nexus.
