I'm not used to those kinds of devices that have split development sections. Does original mean stuff that isn't ported from other devices? I don't know.

Hey guys im planning on buying a Nexus 7 soon after it releases, and i am sure as heck going to root it and load some AOSP goodness on it. But whats the differnece btween the two development section here?

Original development is for completely (or based upon AOSP or kernel source) stuff, CyanogenMod, custom kernels, that sort of thing. The other forum is for cooked ROMs, themes and that sort of thing. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/introducing-original-development-forums-for-more-devices/

Stupid question time. What's the difference between the 2 development forums?

Original development is where you see the real innovation like roms and mods built from scratch with new features and awesomeness.
Android development also has roms, but these will be based primarily on somebody else's work with certain modifications, hence not original. Doesn't mean they're not awesome though.

Just got my Nexus 7, I'm familiar with all the kernels and Roms available. I've downloaded all from the original development thread as well as the newer android thread. For kernels I've used Motley, Franco and the kernel that comes from faux. I'm trying to find a balance between power efficient and no lagging at all. Roms I've used paranoid android, cm10, prime which is better and j18. I'm looking for the best gaming combo, while saving battery. Any suggestions?

I use my 7 primarily for games and for that reason I stick with stock kernel. Some EA games won't download data with custom kernels and I've found stock to be just as good on battery as any custom kernel and not far behind in performance. Your results may vary from anyone else's, so no one can really tell you what'll be best for you.

Use android 4.1.2. It is way smoother and less bloated than android 4.2.2

Look at my guide to Nexus 7 kernels. The link is in my signature

Best suggestion- try them and formulate your own opinion. These types of threads are frowned upon.

Thank you, your thread gave me an idea of what the community agrees with. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place couldn't quite decide. I'm close now! Thanks!!

Frowned apon, but I put ALOT of time into that thread. It's just one user's results but frowned upon? Think before you type.

May want to grab a cup of coffee to wake yourself up since my reply was in no way, shape, or form directed at you. It was directed at the OP, as this thread is just another violation of the forum rules that's going to get locked as soon as the mods get around to it.

I thought this was the questions thread for Nexus 7?! Is my question not valid enough for a community response?

Another thread closed.
The 'best' kernel/ROM is something you have to decide for yourself, there really is no right and wrong answer just which ever you feel works best for you.
This is why we strongly discourage this kind of thread.
We also do not like users that post multiple threads on the same topic, it clogs up the forums with pointless content.
Thank you
I've noticed countless CM/STOCK/PA based or mixed ROMs, it haven't seen a lick or mention of AOKP. Are they going to develop a 4.3 build or is there any new news on the ROM?

Of course it is. They're merging atm. Visit the official thread on the original development forum.

If u go to there thread there's a few posts that talk about this, and there's some code in there git also. There still here, i think there just taking a break after last milestone. Im waiting for them also, don't care to much for what roms r available after using aokp.
Will there ever be a Paranoid Android ROM for the Moto G, I know it has only just recently came out but we would love some developers to just pop on over and help us out a little bit. You could maybe give us guides etc...
Non-nexus devices will be up to individuals that want to port. We will have a new guide for porting eventually.

Yes, I would like to see ROM rolling.
I have problem with stock ROM, the screen seem to be a bit unresponsive, not sure if it is software or hardware related?
