Two dev sections? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys im planning on buying a Nexus 7 soon after it releases, and i am sure as heck going to root it and load some AOSP goodness on it. But whats the differnece btween the two development section here?

Original development is for completely (or based upon AOSP or kernel source) stuff, CyanogenMod, custom kernels, that sort of thing. The other forum is for cooked ROMs, themes and that sort of thing. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/introducing-original-development-forums-for-more-devices/

Let me know below what you want to see in this ROM and what you do not want to see

I will be making ROMs for the Nexus S from now on. I value stability, performance, battery life and features.
Features:
- Stable
- Performant
- Battery life equal or better
- Additional features
More information is coming soon. I will try to merge AOSP with the best of CM7 and CM9.
I will remove things that are seldomly used.
Let me know below what you want to see in this ROM and what you do not want to see. This is my first attempt on a AOSP based ROM.
Build a gingerbread ROM, no, it's not hard, google has official instructions here about building from the source code. If you want an ICS ROM it becomes more complicated since there is no AOSP branch for nexus at this time so it involves a lot of backporting and driver patches and stuff like that.

Is it hard to post in the correct section? I will say building from aosp will be pretty difficult for you if you can't search to find the answer, or post in the correct forum for that matter. Good luck.

I usually don't say nothing on here, but u don't have to be rude to the guy. He asked a simple question, and he knew where he posted his thread. If we can't come together here where the hell we supposed to come together. We are all into what we love. As matter of fact we all started out asking the same damn question. How do we build, root, and so on. So I just want you to respect that. U don't have to be harsh like that. These kinda post is what make people turn away from XDA.
That is all I have to say. Be Breezie.

It's a forum rule to not post questions in the dev forum. XDA has gone down hill in the last couple years. People like him and you are why.
This is the guide I followed a couple weeks ago to build 2.3.7 from source for the Nexus S.
AWESOME place to start as it is step by step and actually works.
http://www.tuxtopia.nl/2011/10/20/guide-building-android-2-3-7-on-ubuntu-11-10-64-bit/
You will need the following:
1. A Linux installation (64-bit Is Required) of Ubuntu 11.10.
2. More ram the merrier, faster hard drive the better. I recommend 8GB+.
You can do this in a VM but I would recommend a regular install as it'll be a lot quicker.
You will also have to download the drivers for the phone as well and extract them to the source root so they get included during the build or else your WiFi, Mobile Data, Graphics Hardware etc will not work.
http://code.google.com/android/nexus/drivers.html#crespogwk74
They should make a filter that blocks topics without a [MOD], [ROM], etc tag from being posted

Wow..."forum rules da da da....dude.....its obvious that the guy posted in the wrong section...very obvious. You obviously missed that man's point. He was saying: "yes he posted in the wrong section but no need to be an uptight **** about it."
Correct the man with a smile, point him in the right direction, done. Smiley face. You sir, are the reason xda has gone downhill. SMILE!

I would start by taking a look at Superatmel's SuperOSR. It has a lot of what you want to do (GB-based), and it is fast and stable.

As a "newbie" myself wondering whether or not to start building my own Rom I will watch this thread with great anticipation. I am not as interested in the actual product though as the way to it. Please document, and share links and experiences for us.
Best wishes
what i want?.. hmm, something different. I think we have pretty much all things that we want in here. ROM development is somewhat stuck (that's why we don't really see ROM development as we first saw), nowadays we see more of new kernel development. In my opinion, AOSP ROM that we have right now pretty much stablest, fastest, most battery efficient. Something like MIUI is great, it has the best user interface but with the drastic performance reduce from AOSP (IMHO : in gaming). CM7, i don't really use it now, i can't write my opinion.
Why don't people start to make a launcher that is different, eye-candy, great usability..

[ROM] WAKEROm v1.0WATER.!

This is a official ROM created by AnDrOpErZ TEAM. This rom uses ACS Syndicate Frozen 1.2 Tweaks, Such as status bar and a couple of performance tweaks by ACS.
More Bloatware has been removed and battery life has been slightly improved. Comes with a custom kernel and New Boot animation. This is our first ROM so show some love Android Lovers. LINKS will be up soon. Check out our blog for news and rom dowloads. This ROM IS DISCONTINUED BUT MAJOR CREDIT GOES TO MARCUSANT for creating the Acs Ics Rom which is wat we built off of.
Should be in development not in general no? I'm sure this will take off real quick with all those srf 1.2 fans =].

They did not state any details. Also, the srf tweaks are just old versions of generic tweaks and it did not have a unique status bar (weird that the op says it uses the srf status bar).

Sorry :/
Hello Guys sorry for the late post. This rom is indeed an actual rom. We are a new user to XDA and accroding to them, We have to have at least 10 post before we can post in the Dev. Thread. Am i wrong.? I cant post the link on here because of the posting rules. This rom is built off of EI22, But we have tested on ECO5 and EB13 and it does work. We replace the link on our blog for you users having trouble finding the ROM section. We apologize for the Issues you may have. Check out our blog again and the link should be on the home page. Heads Up: It is a 4shared link and 4shared does require that you have an account. So please be mind of that. Thank You.
Explanation.!
And to all you guys keep asking why am i posting in the GENERAL thread. Its because i cannot post in the DEV. thread until i accomplish 8-10 post. We are new to XDA and are rookies when it comes to there guidelines and how there site RUNS. Just give us some time to gain knowledge of the site and i promise you, we will have everything on point.
Well sadly you all are 2 official OTA releases behind the curve and there is 1 leaked non-OTA release which is the most recent build.

We Know that. We've already researched the ACS Syndiacte Status Notes. But not all builds run properly on One's device. Actually some updates can screw up the phone. We built off the most stable update, And tweaked the performace, thats all. I know alot of people are looking for the next big thing. But there are some that are satisfied with what they have. This is only tweaks to what they have to make it run more smoothly. We are making ROMS now with the latest builds.

Our latest ota was el30 so technically that would be the most stable build... still though, great job! Always good to have choices... might flash this later just for giggles... going "old school" on em! Lol

Actually i flashed the latest build on my Epic 4g. I even used QBKing77 instructions and it wrecked my phone. i have CWM 3.1.0.1. I currently run CM9 and it runs perfect. But since the latest build wrecked my phone it encouraged me to make tweaks on the most stable build for MY PHONE, And many others who are having issues with the latest build. Dont get me wrong i love The ACS Team's work, Its pure genius. Thats why im using some of there tweaks and not others. But anways thanks for the support and happy flashing. ^____^

Remember people this is only our first rom. Perfection isn't the key. Its just basic changes for smoother performance for people who prefer the EI22.builds. We are working on 3 different roms right now and one we are starting from scratch.

Getting the Nexus 7 soon...

and I haven't been really following anything with the Nexus 7 so...posting this on Q&A.
What is your favorite rom (including plain ol' stock), why, and kernel?
can I use the Gapps I am got for the S3?
also, what other apps / tweaks do you guys recommend?
I never used an Android as a tablet so it's some what of an uncharted waters for me.

Seriously, Custom roms are not worth of it.. or well not yet. I've tried over 6 differents rom and came back to Stock. Stock 4.1.1 has really great performance. The only useful thing I can think of is to flash a different kernel over the stock rom to overclock.

I can read, but at the same time, I created this thread to get other peoples opinion in one place rather than going all over the place. and as for above, I was looking at PA too.
Can I use Gapps (7.27 i think) I am using for the S3 or does the Nexus 7 have it's own different Gapps?

TASK ROM ICS 4.0.4 FOR P7510 WIFI - We need you back...

Dear Task,
We really miss your development of roms for P7510 - my tab has no meaning without you....
MOD EDIT: Links removed
I second this.........I have flashed all the ICS roms available for the Sammy tab 10.1 and there is nothing more stable and smooth then Task650 ICS.......I even flashed jellybean roms to try something new, but I always came back to Task650, because its the best.......that's why he still wears the crown of roms........
CyanogenMod-B12/09
I'll third it! I miss TASK! :crying:
Not that I don't miss him, but this thread is useless
First, there's no Android Development in this, so you are posting in the wrong forum
Second, a developer shouldn't be asked to do something. That's the number 1 rule in xda

Don't worry there's a lot better/smoother/faster roms out there. Task is overrated.

Well come on let's be honest. Any Jelly Bean ROM is faster than any ICS ROM. And I've used ICS ROMs from other developers here that have been faster than Task's only one, which really doesn't consist of many, if any, tweaks.

I wouldn't say he's overrated, used his previous rom and they're quality. He's moved on to other devices and that's his perogative. Having said that I've moved from his ICS rom to Fourth bar Revolution rom and not looked back as it's had more development, very fast, stable and liquid smooth, more so than any JB efforts so far.

Quit trolling XDA. You're making it look bad. These are the types of posts that are ruining this community. Contribute something or GTFO.

Why are you taking my work, posting it, and not even asking me before hand. This is a huge rule you've broken here on XDA. Not cool at all dude. Reporting.

Is AOKP still a thing?

I've noticed countless CM/STOCK/PA based or mixed ROMs, it haven't seen a lick or mention of AOKP. Are they going to develop a 4.3 build or is there any new news on the ROM?
