just doesn't quite say it.
Like I've said in my previous posts, when it comes to samsung supporting ANY of their phones, well you don't get any. They make buggy phones which have problems after a few days of use, and then instead of recalling or updating kernels/roms, they just totally ignore the customers and run off with the money. The "legal" alternative of scamming.
And they have done the same with samsung epic.
http://www.talkandroid.com/13036-samsung-epic-already-having-issues-on-launch-day/
It's not the issues per say, but it's the fact that they KNEW about the issue, and ignored it. I know evo had some issues from the start as well, but this was usually do to a bad batch and htc didn't know about this until mass release. BUT samsung knew about this issue before they even released the phone.
tl;dr: samsung is a crap company when it comes to phones, they don't support their products, and will screw you over when they get the chance.

I'm sure he meant to post that here since the Epic is supposed to be a competitor to the Evo.
Either way: I love my Evo and I wouldn't trade it for the Epic. I don't like Samsung's UI.

no, not really. People are comparing evo to samsung epic, and to me it seems like a right forum to warn everyone about the problems with the epic. I had a chance yesterday to trade my evo for a samsung + 25$. I was thinking about it since my evo has a broken 4g, and the only reason i thought about it was the processor speeds, but after reading that article upon many others, I was re-assured that I will never buy another samsung phone.
my favorite are all the posts of people saying "i bought the phone an hour ago it pwns it is so leeet" now give them a few dys they will be the ones going back and shouting "omg this phone sucks my back button doesnt work ... wth screw you samsung".
I just have to say this....and YES the pun is intended.
EPIC Fail!
Well... I guess this isn't really any different then the screen seperation issue and the light spot on the lcd over the processor and the power button crack on Evo's. I am sure testers ran into all those problems. it is a matter of what is going to cost more; retooling and redesigning a few pieces of the phone and replacing it on 100,000 handsets, or replacing a few thousand handsets that run into the issue.
I'm sure my numbers aren't really in the ballpark, but you get my drift. Every company has to make decisions like this.

I don't buy in the lcd separation bs. I saw people take pictures of claiming about separation and it looks fine to me. If it was separating, then the touch screen wouldn't work as well and you would be experiencing more problems than "dust settling under the screen".
As for the hairline crack on the power button, most of the people that had it, didnt even know about it. Sprint techs probably didn't know about it as well.
Actually, this is a whole other ballpark. You could argue that the Evos were pushed out the door for launch, but Samsung released the first Galaxy S phone in the beginning of June in Europe, and every issue Epic users are running into now were discovered back then. Three months ago. Three months and no fixes for their new phone. They knowingly released a defective phone, will probably never fix it, and will move on to their next phone in January. So long suckers! Oh, and watch this space for complaints about the keyboard Oreo. The only reason this is new is because the Epic is the first Galaxy phone with a keyboard. I mean, you didn't think they'd get that working properly out of the gate, did you?
Sorry for all the FUD, but I'll probably have Gingerbread on my Evo before the Epic gets froyo.

hhahaha CLASSIC
samsung couldn't (and still can't) do flip phones right (had a couple, they would always break; switched to sanyo, i've had that sucker for >4 years and I still bring it out of the box as a backup from time to time, and everything still works on it), why would we expect them to do smart phones any better? they just do not make quality product. burn in on the screens, wow - basically one of your hot selling points is the AMOLED screen, and it has huge burn in problems in less than a month? and they are mass producing these things? no epic for me, and no samsung AMOLED for me on any phone, thanks.
love my evo. no, HTC is not perfect, not saying that at all. but they do make a better quality product than sammy any day, hands down.
Quick off-topic question. I am seriously considering the EVO. However, I need Wifi to work. Are there still issues with poor Wifi signal on the Evo or has this been resolved?
After the froyo update, I went from 2 bars on my couch sitting 20 feet from my router to full bars and I can now go into the bedroom and still get signal. I used to switch to my Diamond and use Opera Mini whenever I was in the bedroom, but that's no longer an issue. 3G signal got stronger as well.
Or was there a different wifi issue you were referring to?
Yeah, WiFi is big for me too and I noticed a while ago it seemed to be better than when I first bought the device. But I thought this was done some time ago. But yeah, WiFi is good.

same thing, getting full bars in two rooms down. About 2 or so bars throughout the house.
After some research I went with the EVO. I have no problems with wifi throughout my house or any other issues with this phone. I came from the Samsung Moment and that phone was a nightmare, no updates to fix the known issues, they deemed it EOL after the 2.1 update. Even with a ROM rooted it was bad. I am half expecting the same with the epic.
Delete this post, I posted in the wrong forum (FAIL).
I purchased the Epic to compare it to the Evo. It really is a great phone, but I think I'm going to stick with my EVO. There were small issues I had that may have been no problems for others, but to me they were dealbreakers. The screen truly does wonders and makes the EVo appear washed out. However, the size is noticeable when compared to the EVO. They realistically could have kept the screen the same size as the EVO had they made the "SAMSUNG" on the front smaller. The email would also never update without a manual refresh, the touch screen buttons are hardly responsive. The email was a big issue to me. However, the biggest deal breaker was the battery. My battery life on the Epic was worse than the EVO. Not a huge deal since Im always near a charger. However, the battery would take hours to charge. My evo could be completely shut down and charge from 10%-100% in about an hour tops. The EPIC took several hours.
That said, the phone is incredibly snappy stock. I would love to see what developers can do with it, but I dont think I have the patience to wait. I'm a regular flashoholic on my EVO.

Hello! Some months ago I bought a Nexus 10 device. Everything was working all right until one day the tablet turned itself off... Wouldn't boot for more than 5-10 seconds, was booting only when the charger was plugged in (maximum brightness or flashlight turned on were making it shutdown too). Wouldn't charge. I decided to post this thread in order to understand if many buyers of the Nexus 10 experienced problems and had to contact Google for replacement or refund. If there was a problem with your device - what was it? Was it something which would make the device unusable? Thank you!
If I had to do it over, I probably would have purchased something else. But at the time there wasn't much out there. The Asus Transformer series had well-documented issues, and the comparable Tegra3 offerings from Acer were getting absolutely horrible reviews all around. I bought what I thought was the least problematic device at the time. Now, I'm not so sure.
My old Acer Iconia a500 (a tegra2 device), as slow as it was, never crashed. Never, ever. To go from that to a device that reboots itself about once a day was...well, almost ironic. The 4.3 update on the N10 has its own set of hiccups, but I'm hoping a 4.3.1 maintenance release will come along soon and fix these minor issues, and that KLP won't be a lemon when it comes out late fall. But I'm getting tired of waiting for a stable release.
It reminds of the late 90s when win95 and 98 were relatively unstable, enough so that I switched to Linux permanently. The instability of android on this tablet is almost enough to make me want to buy a Haswell-based tablet and go back to Windows.
All of that aside, the tablet gets the job done when it's on. I guess powering it off and back on first thing in the morning isn't so horrible. I just wish I didn't have to.
I bought the Note Edge (with Verizon) because I wanted a flagship phone with all the benefits. I however still do not have the Marshmallow update. I cannot use SamsungPay. I cannot use Samsung Internet Browser 4.0 with Adblock Fast. The list goes on. I'm regretting getting this phone. Am I missing something or is the Note Edge the forgotten Flagship phone?
You kinda hit it. I have one and will be waiting on the March Marshmallow update if my battery life does not improve i'm done. I average 2 Hrs screen on time. My Nexus 6 which is supposed to be also bad on battery gives me 4-5 hrs. I do love the functionality of an actual separate screen not what Sammy decided to go with for the 6 series.
I used to LOVE this phone, but the updates ruined it for me. I also average 2 hours on time, thats less than half of what it used to be. If I let it sit overnight 8 hours, I drop from 100%-80% in 8 hours. It really sucks because I won't be able to upgrade until summer. Let's hope this Marshmallow update improves the phone if it ever comes.
Wait when you guys say you average only 2 hours screen time, is that because your phone is on 5.0.1 or 5.1.1. ?
And did you try custom ROMS?
And to OP, there is a Marshmellow update coming. Its just going to take a while. I've seen the beta of it.
Btw it is sad that Samsung abandoned this great peice of innovation. I like mine and though I wish I could get more than 4 hours of heavy on screen time usage, I guess I can't complain hearin what you are going through. I immediately downgraded my phone to 4.4.4 once I recieved it. Not that there was anything wrong with 5.0.1 but I just didn't like some of the pop notifications. It annoyed me quite a bit and Poweramp didn't work well with it and the Edge screen like it does on 4.4.4 so I went to 4.4.4
I'm on 5.1.1
5.0.1 was fine for me, but it was the 5.1 update that really ruined the phone. I can't use the fingerprint scanner because it makes the phone freeze and my battery life is trash!! I wish I would've stayed on Kitkat, I'm so jealous!!
my screen whites i noticed is now yellowish in color, i bought 2 aftermarket batteries and it still doesnt last that long, about 3 hrs screen time, dont think i will get the s7 though, might just get a used note 5 til the note 6 drops

This can't be happening with a Custom ROM. Have you guys tried using a Custom ROM?
I'm on stock rooted 5.1.1 rom on the fy version. I get about 3 hrs screen time with mobile data on. I unplug from charger at around 7 am en plug it back in around 11 pm. If I keep mobile data off and only wi-fi on, I get about 4 hrs. The problem is that the 3g or 4G connection drains too much battery... if I'm in airplane mode using Wi-Fi only, I get about 6 hours screen on time. If I use the phone continuously after unplugging I get about 5 hours screen time mobile data on.
The drain happens when I'm not using the phone... all the above SOT a times are with screen brightness at 50%...
I really love this phone. Great use of the edge screen. Unfortunately not much development going on... For me it's hands down the best phone I ever had, and I've had a couple of other flagship devices...
It is not that bad
Firstly I would like to say Hi
I am on the rant train myself, but I would like to clear some things for most of the people in this thread. The main battery drain that occurs in many Samsung devices (I have witnessed it on my Note Edge as well as on Galaxy s6 and my Galaxy s4) is caused from weird google play services bug. The essential of the bug is that once your Mobile Data is connected they are no way to disconect it. There is a way and to acomplish it, one must have wi-fi access and must restart the phone so it will disconect the Mobile Data and use the wi-fi radio.
So TL;DR go look at any app that is eating your battery and if you notice "total connection time" which is WAY above the level it should have been you are a winner! I am looking for a way to remove this issue since I got the phone (6 months and more now) and as far as I know there is no success in doing so.
Apart from this problem, the phone is EXTREMELY cool. Very stable (taking in mind that it runs TW), good camera, good screen, S PEN = magic, Edge panel is something once man got into there is no comming back! So the battery life issue may not be on the Samsung's side this time, guys. I am loving the phone and I am expecting Marshmallow to cure the issue I am ranting about for 15 minutes now..
Good luck for all of you trying to like your phones. If you have spent so much money on something there must be a thing that will make you happy for having it!

Agreed. Coupled with the spen and the multi-window edge panel there's absolutely nothing like it IMO. Having been eligible for an upgrade for months now I've looked at the S6 edge plus, Note 5, new iphones etc but nothing comes close to the Edge.
Grab a spare battery + charging dock from ebay and forget about battery life.
Im going to be sad if I break it as there is simply no substitute for this phone. I'll also be sad if they kill it with the marshmallow update lol.
Why take the chance ?
Don't update.

Im banking on marshmallow, i have it on my nexus 6 same apps etc and 5HOURS SCREEN ON TIME !!!
Hi guys. I feel the same. I paid Samsung £700 when it was first released for what I thought was an amazing concept, flagship device. We were promised the world and we were delivered nothing. It feels as if Samsung just gave up on the Edge even though it promised so much.
Things I dislike
-The update to Marshmallow is slow (though I've read it should be with us in 1-3 months time).
-The dev community for the Edge is poor compared to other devices.
-TouchWiz sucks (decent features but poor performance and looks).
-Battery life/SOT (I had to carry a spare battery/keep phone plugged in via usb)
Things I like
-Edge screen is quite useful
-Screen is gorgeous!
-Uniqueness
-Overall look and feel
I've just placed an order for the Nexus 6P - I will of course miss the S-Pen and some other TouchWiz features but I won't miss the sluggishness of TouchWiz - I hate it!
Having owned three Samsung flagship devices when they were first released (Galaxy S, Note, Note Edge) it does feel like my affinity with Samsung handsets has come to an end. I will of course still buy their TV's, monitors etc., just not mobiles. You only need to take one look at the Nexus community/dev scene to see what your missing.
See you guys, I've had a nice time, but I'm out!
The big problem with this phone is Samsung's MDM suite that's built in to the phone's programming.
The thing's a royal pain in the azz.
It makes the phone neurotic.

Yeah I don't know what I'll do once my phone either breaks or the battery and spare battery give way. I'm gonna try and be extra careful with it. This phone is handsdown feature wise, the best thing ever. I just wish more people saw it that way so Samsung would've continued with the line. I just cannot fathom how quickly Samsung ditched this phone.

That's why i bought the spare charger box and battery, it's more likely to come with an official Samsung battery.. seems to work great, bought from Amazon from one of the other sellers rather than the main add that had reviews saying the battery only lasted a few weeks.

i was having problems with the phone recently. it would not wake up or the screen would flicker when i tried to go between apps. it was really frustrating. i also could not use the google messenger text app after the google play services auto updated from the play store. then there was the edge board app (which i love) crashing. it was a mess. i tried to go back to kit kat. i had odin and the kit kat .tar and i was denied. (i started a thread about getting help to get around the "fail" notice i receive but no responses yet). with that said i just did a factory reset and i am back to normal. this is, like others have stated, THE best phone I have ever owned. That is saying a lot because i used to gt a new flagship phone every year for the past 15 years. I slipped samsungs shameful iPhone clone offering of the note 5 and since they made no note edge 2 i will use this til it dies. they still have unlocked international versions on ebay so if samsung screws us again this year i will skip my 2nd upgrade opportunity.

Yeah. It sucks to be a minority in everything especially when it comes to taste. For those of us that live and die by how great this phone is, we're gonna have to deal with being stuck with it till it dies or we can't find it in the market. Best phone I have ever had despite its battery life. Utility is simply unmatched
Has anyone else had this issue? I got an OTA last night around midnight, and it has rebooted itself in the middle of use twice today.
Nope
Any idea of what the OTA actually installed?
I have no clue
I'm having the same issue. Phone has rebooted 3 times today.
What version did the OTA bring your phone up to? PB4??
G935vvrs2apb4
I had sync.me installed as a way to get profile pics in contacts. I uninstalled it yesterday and it hasn't rebooted since. Seemed like it was over working the phone. Carbonad, do you have sync.me?
My Note 5 and S7 Edge reboot itself at least once a day minimum. My Note 5 reboots more than the S7 Edge, though. Also, my S7 Edge likes to vibrate when there's no notifications, button presses, or even screen touches - along with the screen turning on whenever it wants to. Yet the battery still lasts forever. I also get false touches quite a bit (mentioned in another thread by another user).
Samsung FTW. Still not as many problems as I hear all of my family and friends complaining about with their beloved iPhone. But my Samsung is "far from superior"? Lolz.
All phones matter.

I never had a smartphone that would randomly and regularly reboot itself. The fact that both of yours do that seems like an odd coincidence to me. You think maybe it's an app you have installed on both devices that could be the culprit? If my phones were doing that I would have them replaced because that's not normal. BTW, I have the overly sensitive screen issue on my S7 Edge but apparantly it's the nature of the beast. I went to both Best Buy and a Verizon store and played around with their display models. They all seem about the same. So I guess it's something you have to adjust to. I'm still looking forward to a fix in a firmware update though.

I'm not totally sure what it would be cause by on the Note 5. It started after the first Marshmallow update. I can't do an OTA because it's no longer on a carrier, so I'm not sure if any updates (if released) would fix it or not. I do use Nova Prime on it for a launcher, and the device has a fair amount of apps and is loaded with widgets on 3 screens (including the home screen).
The S7 Edge doesn't do the reboots anymore since the 2nd Marshmallow update, so that's no longer an issue. After today's update, the phone isn't waking randomly anymore, so the screen is turning on randomly. I also haven't been experiencing the vibrate issue either. The device appears to be a lot more stable than previously, too.
I assume its a mixture of updates through firmware and apps that cause the issues I was experiencing, but it's difficult to say.
I only experience an "overly sensitive screen" when I play Clash of Clans and hold my finger in one spot on the screen - it'll start shaking as if I was moving my finger slightly in different directions. I just checked now and it doesn't do that anymore, so that may have been fixed.
I haven't been able to update the Note 5 yet, nor am I to worried about it at this point, so I can't confirm any changes on that device.
However, the S7 Edge of mine is preforming exceptionally today. Much better than it was even preforming this morning pre-update.

That's good that your S7 issue is resolved. Maybe Samsung is aware of some of the screen issues and is working on it with updates. As far as your Note 5, you can probably find the latest firmware on Sammobile.

Not sure what the problem is, but oh well.
There's been a problem with every phone I've purchased - HTC Hero, HTC Evo3D, Galaxy S4, Note 3, Note 4, Note 5, and S7 Edge.
The difference is that I was able to install custom ROM's on those older devices.
It's always something. That's how it goes.

I know that feeling. At the suggestion of a Verizon tech, I ran the Verizon repair assistant program in an attempt to fix my over sensitive touch screen issue. When I ran the program my phone was working normal without the screen sensitivity problem. I blabbed it on the forums I found a fix. The following day was screen was back to acting up. I would have returned the phone if I knew the fix was only temporary. By waiting that one more day I was one day past my 14 day return window. I'm getting use to the way it is. I have to be overly cautious to prevent inadvertently opening apps and links.
If someone can show me a forum about an Android device where there is no one talking about their device lags or sucks for a variety of issues, I would like to know. There are always going to people with issues. Some may be user induced, some a design flaw and others just a defective unit.

Turns out to be the Verizon Message+ App.
After disabling that app, I no longer have that issue.
The screen, however, is still pretty... (sensitive?). There are times where the phone will act as if I tapped the screen, but I never even touched it; resulting in a clicked link, webpage moving, etc... A bit irritating, but isn't causing too much of a hassle.
In conclusion, every phone will always have a defect. Lol.

ADDED: After disabling Message+ my charge light no longer works. Always something.
------------------edit 2
My notification light no longer works at all. Lol. I give up.
Well, the end has come for my Note 10.1 2014. I've tried multiple resets, keeping it bone stock, and even tried a custom ROM. I can barely get the tablet to boot, let alone actually do anything. Chrome takes about 1 minute to load and it is unusable when it does. Same with pretty much everything else. Youtube is a stuttery mess, even at low resolution. Also, the OEM battery I put in earlier this year is already showing signs of failure (dropping to 35% charge, then 25%, then 15% all within a few minutes).
So, why am I posting this? Well, I am the owner of a ZenPad 3S 10! I wanted to at least give some info. about it. I considered the Galaxy Tab A /w S-Pen, but I couldn't get over that resolution. Had the resolution been higher, that would have been the tablet to replace the 10.1 2014. I thought of going for a Tab S2, but I really didn't want to pay a premium price again for a tablet again. My uses for a tablet have changed. I wanted a business type tablet before, but now I am content with a media consumption device, like an iPad or the ZenPad 3S 10.
The ZenPad 3S 10 is running $299.99 on Amazon. The specs. are great for that price. ZenUI is tough to get used to though. It's like the early days of TouchWiz: lots and lots of bloat, pages of settings, etc. It takes a bit of time to setup and disable the crap. The tablet feels light in hand, but the narrow bezels cause a lot of false touches. I am going to invest in a case ,and hopefully that will take care of that problem. It has a Mediatek processor, which is a bit concerning. This processor is being touted one of their higher end tablet chips now, so I will give it a fair chance. I don't need a lot of horsepower, as I don't game or anything. It just needs to browse the web, watch Youtube, and that's about it.
The 3S 10 has Nougat promised to it at some point. Asus is glacial when it comes to updates, so it could be a while. Regardless, a good spec'ed tablet for $299 is hard to beat.
I'll keep poking my head in here from time to time, as maybe I'll try to do something with the Note 10.1 at some point.
I sold my ZenPad earlier this year. I was one of the first ones to get it. I have to say it is an amazing tablet if you cut out the bloatware and ugly photos. Problem is: It is running on Intel and therefor you can't install a custom rom.
Since a couple of months I'm the proud owner of a 2 year old P-600. It is running buttery smooth with now CM14.1 (Android 7.1) installed. Everyhting works and I love it. Battery ist still alright lasting at least 10 days on standby.
bumbum.droid, do I get it right you have a Samsung SM-P600 with CM14.1?
I ask because I can't find another device with "P-600" or "P600" in the name.
If yes, where did you get that CM 14.1 build from?

No more red cases for you... Too much like the red shirt worn by the walking dead crew members....
SM-P600 is the official name for galaxy note 10.1. To find one go to ebay. For cm 14, look at the android development section for the note 10 on xda.

Did you try doing a factory reset? There are a lot of us willing to help you restore your tablet to optimum condition.. We just need to know what you are experiencing.

Try here:

Carefully read and follow directions. It appears that the first one listed might be the one you need. I can't use this myself as I have an SM-P605v. The bootloader is locked and it can't be upgraded past Android 5.1.1.
I can walk you through the upgrade but I can't use it myself.

Sorry mate. I tried everything. Factory resets, custom ROMS, and keeping it bone stock out of the box. The lag makes it unusable. Just doing the factory reset itself took about 1.5 hours (no joke). A typical restart takes about 8-10 minutes. To launch Chrome, it took 1.5 minutes, and I was never able to input anything due to the lag. Again, this is bone stock with no updates from the Play Store.
Second problem was the battery. At about 35%, it just tumbles off the cliff. 35%>25%>15%>5% within a few minutes. My old battery did this, and I ended up replacing it with an OEM battery purchased from Samsung USA. It worked for about 3 months and started having the same issue.
I may dive into it again when I get bored to see what I can do, but I'm not holding my breath.
As an aside, the ZenPad works quite well.

Sorry for my late reply.
Yes I own a P-600 now running CM14.1.
I used the following rom:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...0-cyanogenmod-14-0-unofficial-builds-t3457898
Everything is in there if you read carefully. But I can't help but think that your device is faulty.
Thanks @ bumbumdroid .
I already have the previous ("CyanogenMod") generation of that ROM in use; the forum didn't inform me of earlier replies so I didn't notice there were already answers / updates in here.
I'll definitively test the LineAge generation, a fresh ROM is always good.
