Hey all.
I'm having some problems with my N7's touchscreen becoming unresponsive after using it for a while and it's fixed by turning on and off the screen. I know I'm not the only one by far, but I want to prove/see for once and for all that my touchscreen is imperfect. This way I can indicate the problem to other people as well as test any replacement model I will be getting.
Please share any good methods/ideas here so we can help eachother.

Easiest way is to turn on the show touch option under developer options, it will show a little dot every where you touch, after I did this I could fully see that my tablet wasnt recognizing a lot of my touches. Its definitely an issue and I'm exchanging mine tonight to see if I can get one that doesnt do this, but I dont have much hope on that because I think its the way these are designed that they will eventually have this issue, I got mine pretty much on launch day and havent had any problems that I've noticed till the past couple weeks to a month, it didnt do this for the first month or two I had it, a co-worker got one for her son and his is already doing it on occasion, so I think this is more widespread than people know
Thanks for your reply. Using Kaos 3.7.3 now and must say that I haven't had any problems with the touchscreen so far. Still testing though. Touch indicator is also enabled for now, to test morr accurately.

I've read around and it seems that it doesn't matter which batch you get be it c60, c70, c80 or even c90 the problem still exists including screen lifts.
Most likely wide spread, just not sure whether it's hardware or software related. I'm hoping it's the latter so google can release a fix

Hey everyone, so I set smart dimmer off but it doesn't help. I turn on my tablet and it's always washed out and quite a bit of ghosting. Anyone know any way of fixing it?

Same here. I sent it back. Ordered a new one a couple of weeks later from another place, same issue.
There are many articles and threads about this problem, but unfortunately Google and ASUS seem to ignore it. And even here on xda, people get defensive about their Nexus 7 and downplays the problem, attacks DisplayMate for scientifically illustrating the problem etc.
It annoys the hell out of me because I _want_ to love the Nexus 7, I _want_ to _want_ to keep it. It has great hardware, great software and even the IPS screen is great, but unfortunately the end result is a display that is seriously miscalibrated. The simplest calibration tests of black level, shadow detail, white crush and saturation and intensity (especially of the green primary) shows the major issues. Worst, it is obvious in daily use all the time.
I probably will end up sending this second Nexus 7 back as well and buy something with a half-decent visual experience.

I already have PRISM disabled. It helps a tiny bit but does not begin to solve the problem at all. Gamma, white crush, green saturation and intensity, contrast etc. still looks like something from 5+ years ago.
And there are a billion threads about this on the internet. I wish Google would take it serious, but...

I don't know if I go lucky but when I went to safe mode and turn my device of overnight then in the morning I no longer experience this problem. Note I experienced your problem for 3 months and just yesterday the issue was resolved simply by doing what I stated. Good luck let me know what happens

Hello everyone. So far I'm loving everything about my Nexus 4. The thing is fast and beautiful, but I unfortunately I have a problem.
Every once in a while the LCD will stop working. I unlock it and it works, then maybe 5 hours later (after many unlocks and locks) I will unlock it and when the screen should come on my LCD slowly turns white, it looks like when you push on the screen, then it slowly spreads until the whole screen is white. I lock it then relock it and its back to normal.
Anyone else have this issue?

May be one of the apps you installed is trying to launch something upon unlocking. Do you have any er... shady looking apps installed?

Nope no shady apps. This doesn't seem like a software issue. I tried restoring many times, also the touch screen is still functional and I can still unlock the lock screen. I hear the click and I can launch apps (I placed YouTube on my home screen and just launched a video blindly)

Although my screen issued has been fiex, my google wallet failed to work on the new phone.
So now, I am back to using the old phone with screen issue.

This issues is really annoying, widgetlocker did not help it after all
I have re-installed stock twice, and I have ALSO tried another rom (MiNCO) but no dice.
I heard turning off auto-brightness resolves it, I'll try that for now

Is anyone else having a slight misalignment on the touch screen?
For me touch is shifted about a millimeter or two to the right.
I've checked on both my N4 and my sister's N4 and both of us seem to be having this slight misalignment.
Both of us have REV 11 N4's. One was obtained through T-Mobile in January, the other was obtained through Google Play just last month.
I've checked on a few roms. I've tried CM, PA, and Stock with a multitude of different kernels (Franco, Faux, Trinity, CM, and stock).
To check:
1. Enable "Show touches" under the Developer menu.
2. Touch a part of the screen where you'll be able to see the touch bubble and hold it there.
3. Look at the screen at angle to see under your finger.
It's not a big deal, just something I've noticed when I had difficulty trying to use PIE on the left side of the screen. Although, I still would love to be able to get the screen recalibrated to have more accurate touch sensitivity to eliminate the difficulty that I have with CM's PIE.
Another question: Is anyone aware of any LG diagnostic tool to calibrate the screen? I remember back on the HTC sensation there was a file that you could load through HBOOT and get your screen calibrated from there.
Photo attached.
Oh wow I never noticed this , I have the same thing, never really had problems with it
Btw I have an older model , so its not just a Rev11 thing

Mine looks like its right on when I test. Maybe just a hair over to the right but nowhere near as far off as yours. Rev11 302K

Nope...
I thought I was just trippin when I noticed the same thing last week
Just tested and confirmed, pretty significant misalignment by about 1 cm, which is a LOT when you're talking about a <5" touch screen..
My next thought is, is this a software issue?
We need more people to test and confirm. But I believe that is what we will find. Software issue.
Anyone with a Nexus 7 on stock 4.2.2, please also test and report.
Wow never thought anyone else was experiencing this, mine seems to be off since I always have to touch a little higher than what I'm going for even nav bar.

I would think that it's a software issue. My HTC sensation was able to have it's screen recalibrated. I think LG would have some kind of tool to be able to do it.

So I updated to 4.4 yesterday with adb sideload. Since that I was using my Nexus 7 "heavily" and I always had "buttons stucked" on keyboard, but now it's gone and I havent experienced any other touchscreen bug.
I don't think I have had any buttons sticking since I updated as well. That was my only issue with my Nexus 7 when in was still running 4.3. It would usually have a keystroke stick several times while typing things and I haven't experienced it once while typing this entire post, which is also why it keeps going because I'm trying to keep typing to see if it'll happen, and instead I just keep making spelling mistakes.
It did not fix the touch issues that may be related to grounding. In a case or stand, both Nexus 7 devices I have still fail to see any touch on numerous occasions, even single finger touch events. Manufacturing issue I guess, but we all know how G & Asus deal with those.
Let's hope it lasts... some issues are fixed temporally.
touchscreen is definitely improved for me too.
Yeah but multitouch still fails, playing dead trigger 2 could be an impossible mission.

Never had multitouch issues, only single touch problems like quad touches innstead of one etc. (As u can see it happened again lol)
They poped up after the R update, and im waiting for CM11
I had single touch issues even after sending my tablet in for service. I had called yesterday to send it back again when I noticed the update was available for side loading.
After the update my screen is behaving!
I'm going to hold off on claiming that my issues are completely resolved but it is looking promising.

Could you please report if your touchscreen has gotten better or worse afer the update?:fingers-crossed:
Some people are saying that it fixed everything for them, but I just saw someone who said that multitouch has become unusable...
For me it definietly made it, and as I see it became smoother...
(I am using ART with stock rooted ROM)

But the ghost touch bug is still present. I think this is hardware issue but cannot find any service manual to investigate
Good as gold as with all releases since 4.4
nothing changes
I've seen a little bit of improvement, but I also only had problems under some app-specific conditions. Though, I've noticed the N7 is unusually sensitive to hand/finger temperature. If my hands are even remotely cool, I can't get anything to work. Meanwhile, my S4 in a condom Otterbox Defender reads touches just fine even with freezing hands.
:\
Its not good! i have problem with multitouch and battery life is down!! and i see a bit lack in this new version!(4.4.2 - Nexus 7 LTE ) .... pls Help me .... how to fix it?

4.2.2 almost fixes my DEB model
Hi,
My tablet is one of the unlucky ones which were not fixed by sfhub's patches.
Fortunately, the 4.2.2 OTA makes my tablet smoother. Except for 1 inch strip of non-responsive space (little below the top vertical position), things work fine. I see no ghost touches and multi-touch works fine as long as I dont touch that 1 inch part.
Hmm, it takes 3 OTAs and lot of belief in customers like me to get to this state!
Perfect so far since 4.4. Also, tested ungrounded with one and two fingers with Google Maps and no issues.
I haven't tested 4.4.2, but I WAS using SfHubs ts20 on 4.3.
I flashed the TouchScreen Unlock and then back to 100% stock 4.3 and updated to 4.4 naturally using the OTA procedure. Then updated to 4.4.1.
I tested all along the way and it seems to have helped some. Typing isn't as big as a problem but there are still missed touches and generally sucks trying to play action games. 4.4.1 seemed to help a bit again.
I'm going to try this again with 4.4.2 since I've heard good things. If this doesn't fix it, I'm sending it off to Asus. I've heard they are now replacing the touchscreen driver boards with different ones which basically means it is a hardware problem and they know it.
I haven't tried the "stock" drivers yet, still using TS09 but I will revert back tomorrow.
I got a old Nexus 7 from my mobile operator the other day.. damn, what a dream touch wize.. Why cant Nexus 7 FHD work like this? :/ I can actually TYPE on the old Nexus.
Mine seems to be mostly resolved since 4.4.
