Red TF300 i/o results - Transformer TF300T General

So i had read about the problems with the tf300 and decided to see if they had been resolved with the latest color red and white models released recently. Sadly my results are not good. The quadrant i/o scores started around 4000 on ics and dropped to around 1100 on Jellybean. I would love to test some custom roms before taking it back to bestbuy but I'm afraid to get stuck with this.
I wanted to stick with android but there is no ideal purchase in the 10" size range like my Nexus 7.

Has anyone compared the hardware to the nexus 7? I just ran a side by side comparison and the io score is the only difference. They literally run exactly the same otherwise. The reason i ask is if the io hardware is the same there might be hope in the future for a software fix.

I'm sure they will be fixed with a firmware update, my tablet has been running great and no lockup or anything. The only time i notice lockups are when i torrent (anime downloads) on it and sometimes downloading to the internal card, actually scratch that it had some major lag and weirdness when i first got it (upgraded to JB without thinking) but nothing a factory reset and wiping cache/dalvik would not solve. So if i was you maybe do a factory reset and then wipe cache/dalvik using TWRP. If you don't have custom recovery then at least factory rest.
Not a huge deal for me because i use an external card for everything anyways and torrents can be done on my laptop. It is a problem for sure but not enough for me to dumb it for the Nexus 7 because this is the only tablet with a full keyboard and double battery.

Hope
I've heard from other forums too tha with jellybean the i/o score droped to around 1100.
I use a custom rom (Hydro 4.1 from seanzscreams based on Official Jb) and my Tf300 scores around 5400 i/o at quadrant.
So i suggest you to read carefully and try to install a custom rom .

A few questions

Hello I am pretty new to these forums and the whole Android thing in general so excuse my ignorance if it appears this way .I am a bit of a tweaker at heart , always messing at PCs , Overclocking etc as you can imagine , so I am getting to grips recently with this phone.
so far i have seen my quadrant scores go from high 800s into 2500 as of tonight, tho i have also seen other models scores increase dramatically with an upgrade to froyo - android 2.2 .
what I am asking is this , can I expect another massive jump in performance when froyo is released along with all the speed fixes and hacks that we have today , or are we only extracting the froyo improves to use with the existing 2.1 software . in other words does the hardware have anymore left to give . Hope this is not long winded
Stephen
well, the improvement in quadrant scores for galaxy s comes atm from the lag fixes that you can find here. with froyo properly optimised, we should see some more points, since jit will bring some more performance to the table.
many thanks from your reply , so you think a reflash from 2.1 with all the fixes will be beaten by 2.2 stock
Depends on how Samsung manages to get past the i/o problems. If the stock 2.2 will have the same problems that 2.1 has, then there's no way in the world a stock 2.2 will beat a lagfixed 2.1, since the problem of lag and stalling comes from the slow write capabilities on the internal memory. Even if the processor flies, when the system tries to write something it can't very fast. I had similar problems with a first gen SSD, all was great untill the system needed to write small files on it, then ... stop ).
For sure, a lagfixed 2.2 will beat a lagfixed 2.1

[Q] OC Kernel install with Phiremod6.2 and stock kernel

Definite Newbie question - I've found multiple threads about this, but they all have different start points and I have no interest in bricking the first day.
I have a brand new NC that was 1.1 out of the box. I used Autonooter 3.0 to get root, and then installed Phiremod 6.2.
Everything works great, except that I am now maxed out at 925 mhz. I really want to see how this handles with 1100mhz overclock running.
What is the process to install the OC kernel on top of this? I am new to android, and even newer to CWM. I have flashed it to 3.0.2.8 with ROM manager. I just need a little help with installing the OC kernel.
What say you gents?
For the other newbs that no doubt have this question:
You need to flash only the kernal... Reboot into CWM recovery mode.
The 040411 is the stable 1100mhz... the 042411 is the less stable 1300mhz kernel.
Make sure you grab the appropriate kernel for your install: SD vs eMMC
Save it to the root of your SD card
Once you are booted into CWM recovery:
Wipe the Cache partition
Advanced --> wipe Dalvik cache
Install from SD card - select the kernel zip
Then reboot. You should now have the option to push your NC further.

Thanks for this! I'm running 4/24 and not really having any issues at 1200 mhz, but would rather have the option of 1100 mhz. Seems safer.
Ooops! Word of warning: 04/11/11 did not work for me with Phiremod 6.2. Sent the NC into a boot loop. Reflashed the 4/24/11 kernel and it appears to be coming back up.

Thanks for the update - I flashed straight to 042411, running at 1300. Seems like things are moving along nicely, although the app drawer still lags a bit upon opening. Still seeing lag in the browser as well, regardless of the browser used. If I could nix these issues, I would love this little tablet.
As it is, I may return it and get a new galaxy tab... really love this form factor though. So torn.

Yes, the form factor is great. I'd like to hold an 8.9" tablet to see how it compares, but I can definitively state that 10.1" tablets with a 16x9 aspect ratio just feel awkward in my hands.
As for exchanging the Nook for a Gtab, honestly, I'd just hold on to it until 7" dual core Honeycomb tablets become affordable. I doubt you gain all that much with the current Gtab. Plus, the next gen of Samsung tablets look super sweet. Personally, I really like the new HTC tablet that comes with a pen. Great for doodling. If it drops into the $350.00 range, I'm so there.

Tried Opera Mobile Instead? Super smooth for me!
It's also recommended to use interactive as governor under cpu-settings
Is the 4/24 at 1300 stable overall for daily use?
Or is it one of those situations where just some NCs can't handle it and have to bump it down to like 1200?

Yeah, that's what I use. Opera Mobile is the single greatest app on the NC, IMHO.

I use it at 1200, no issues at all...
Just try it out, guess it will be different for everyone.

U just have to try this yourshelf.
Some NC have really difficulty in handling the extra mhz..
My NC's been fine at 1200 Mhz. Too chicken to try 1300. Honestly, even at 1200 we're running 150% of what B&N intended, so even that's a little scary to me. I take comfort in the fact that we're only running these speeds when the processor is being throttled that high, though.
4/24 at 1300 runs fine for me with P6.2. No uv or anything, all stock settings.
I've been using 1300 for more than 24 hours now and I've been playing games on it nonstop as well as checking e-mails etc etc. Anyway, it seems very stable. No issues so far.
BTW, racks has released a new image for the 6.2+HC SD card install which already incorporates alsa update and OC kernel.

[Q] Going really slow

The last few weeks, my N10 has really started slowing down. I've tried rebooting it, but it doesn't seem to help. I've got around 7Gb of free space.
I have a CPU monitor on it but that doesn't show anything odd - neither Core seems to be working hard.
The N10 is not rooted and it is running 4.2.2.
Anyone got any idea how I can check what may be causing this?
Thanks
Alan

Search these forums, as I am fairly sure that I read people mentioning significant I/O speed drops occuring when they came close to using all their internal storage (not the 2GB volitile memory). I/O speed issues can slow down your device. Although your 7GB of free space sounds like a lot of room to me.
As I can't clearly remember if those people reporting the issue found a fix please do the suggested thread searching. You may find that I am way off as it was a long while since I read those posts.
Good Luck.

Are you sure that wasn't for the Nexus 7? The Nexus 10 has one of the fastest I/O speeds ever on Android, according to AndroBench (sorry for no link, no time).

I agree that the N10 I/O is blazing fast relative to other devices. What I am referring to is when internal storage is nearly filled up, for some unknown reason, the normal I/O speeds drop off significantly.
Here is the thread I was referring to. This thread mentions both the Nexus 7 and the 10. It also referrs to a fix "LagFix (fstrim)" but it may also just be a placebo. There is a free and paid version. I have never tried this app myself.
Something like that happend to me but after flashing a few roms even with wipes my i/o was slow. I have to do a full factory reset with stock recovery then root again and twrp flash a rom or stock problem solve for me i have fast read and writes.
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
I've now unlocked and rooted my N10. It's all nice and fast again - but obviously, it's "starting again". I'll see what happens over the next few months. Maybe time for a new Rom.

[Q] Strange Benchmark Scores and kernel issue

Hey everyone
I ran antutu benchmark on my nexus 4 running PA v3.97 and i got a score of a little more than 16 thousand and then i install the semaphore kernel and got an embarrassing score of 14162. Whats happening? Arent these a little odd considering that a STOCK Nexus4 has a score of 20 thousand?
And another un-related thing, The carbon rom is not booting up with the matr1x kernel. the google sign comes up and no bootanimation and it stays there.
Really need your help, Thanks
If there is one thing I learnt here it would be that benchmarks are unreliable.
Make sure that kernel matches the ROMs Android version and build, it may not be even supported.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
Stock doesn't score 20k
Check your CPU speed on your Antutu Detailed Score, I would say most likely it was caused by the CPU throttling if it's not 1514 (or something around that),
Custom ROM can be the culprit too, since I only get 13k-14k score with MIUI (from miuiandroid) which is pretty embarassing, that was MTK6579 level.
My stock 4.2.2 doesn't even come close to 20k score. Only 17,900 something.

Scores of our Shield Tablet in Antutu

Hello there!
I've got an idea to make a post-poll to see what scores Antutu Benchmark is giving us in the Shield Tablet on any ROM, like CM11, Stock, etc.
Mine (WiFi-only model) got 53.844 points, with the latest stock firmware (1.2.1) and Antutu Benchmark 5.1.. Also, it was set to Max. Performance mode..
I also made a video, you can check it here:
What are your best scores with the Shield Tablet?
(And sorry for my bad english lol)
Of course, I didn't mentioned it, but It'd be nice to compare scores between roms, so, if you're using a different rom than stock, like CM11, please post it, so that we know which rom has best performance

In mine with 2.2.1 rooted I got the other days around 57 thousand and something, what a pity I didn't take any screenshot :silly:
(Also on max performance)

The ROM that has the highest Antutu score, and the ROM that has the best performance could (most probably) be different. It's been proven time and time again that benchmarks mean little when it comes to real world performance.
stock and shaky kernel
Before 62000 couples times stock, shaky kernel, booster plus and battery saver, busyboox ,CPU tuner and shield in my power mode full
Right now 59326 with stock, shaky, booster plus, busybox, device control,CPU tuner, auto kill apk and shield in my power mode.

always one guy that just has to remind us that benchmarks don't necessarily mean your going to have a good experience across the board, yeah bud, we know, this is XDA, it's fun to benchmark, get over it. [rant off]
anywho, I'm stock, unlocked, and rooted with titanium to freeze apps and CWM for backups.
got a 56,593 & 57,340 Whoot!
Here's a recent one on mine. I want to hit 65k but that will likely require a GPU OC among other optimizations.

I OC'd my CPU to 2.5ghz and that's was about it. I'm running BitOsessions kernel on my stock Shield Tablet. I did another one a while ago that hit 63k but I can't find my screenshot so I'm working to get past that again.
Here's another one I did when I dropped the resolution from 1080 FHD to 720 HD.

I completely disagree with this without meaning to be rude because every person suffers from confirmation bias and "self benchmarking" is one area where it effects everybody greatly.
To the extent that people can have very different experiences on exactly the same hardware and software as a matter of routine - and no one can know that it has ocurred since it's automatic.
Benchmarks are the in fact the only way to measure objectively IME and opinion.
This is certainly not to say that anyone has a better or worse experience though as you point out, that i agree with.
Antutu Benchmark
No root/no debloat - MM 6.0.1
