Get a kernel which has a permanent CWM,
search the development section

It's a temporary Cwm, only stays till reboot once flashed, you need to use kernel which has integrated Cwm (savies rev 73,Merruk 2.0 etc)

2 Serious problems

I have been a Samsung Galaxy Y user for more than a year. I have to say that this device is awesome. But.... I have later noticed 2 problems.
1) One day I tried to install Elegance ROM. I followed all steps very carefully and when the installation was done, I rebooted my phone. Unfortunately, my phone booted up again at Samsung stock firmware. I tried to enter recovery mode because I wanted to see what went wrong, but I was automatically redirected to CWM recovery. I tried once again to install Elegance ROM, and the result was the same. From that day, CWM is my default recovery. Why? How to fix this??? I can't access stock recovery and I also cannot install any custom ROMs. How to fix this?
2) Even my SD card is full with songs, photos and videos, the "Gallery" and "Music" apps don't read any file. Why? How to fix this?
P.S. I'm running stock 2.3.6 rooted.
Thanks for help.

You have a permanent cwm because you are using a custom kernel with a permanent cwm - probably was included in the rom zip
If you want stock recovery flash stock kernel (can be found in general section or flash hells fusion #50 from dev section and select option to flash stock kernel)
you would of remained on stock rom after flashing another rom because you didn't mount system in cwm before you flashed the zip
As for your other problem flash stock rom via odin as you have probably mucked something up from flashing zips incorrectly
So.... If I flash the stock kernel, will I be able to access stock recovery and flash CWM every time I want?
By the way, this mess with the files started when I changed my phone's SIM card. When I turned my ohine on again, I opened by mistake the "Galery" app. I noticed that no images were there. I also thought that the "music" might also had the same problem. And that's what happened. Which Odin version I will need?
Thanks again.

Yes stock kernel = stock recovery and you can flash a temporary cwm
there is no problems with a permanent cwm in custom kernels as you need cwm to flash roms
If you goto phone settings about phone it will show you your current baseband - for example mine is xxlf3
You can either download that stock rom firmware from dokys thread if there or any other from your country
Thanks everybody. You are all really helpful. I appreciate your help. But tell me, do I need to mount system before installing Elegance? And while I'm having a custom kernel installed, can I flash roms or I need the stock kernel?
Thanks again.

Follow instructions on the op of the rom you want to flash
you must always mount system before flashing a zip else nothing will happen - you can flash zips all day and no changes would happen as it can't write to system as it's not mount!
As a general rule
wipe system
wipe data
wipe cache
mount system
mount data
mount cache
flash zip
format data (not always required just for some roms)
restart
you do not need to go back to stock to change rom
There are guides in general section - please read them first then you would understand the process

Can I install it while I have a custom kernel installed? If yes, do I need to mount system before installing? Thanks for help

[Q] Stuck Boot with any custom Kernel

Hi!
I have a EU i9505, rooted with Jamal GE ROM, September update.
I tried installing KTOONsez, both version, but the phone just stays tuck at the Galaxy boot logo
si I have to clear both cache and reinstall the ROM
I tried with Chronic Kernel, same issue...phone stuck at Google 4 circles boot logo.... so I cleaned cache and reinstalled rom... BUT now the phone is not booting anymore
As soon as the boot finishes I see for a while the desktop (with the STD wallpaper and wrong time/date) andthan it reboots....
HELLLP!!!!!
Sounds like something has gone wrong with the installation process and now nothing works. I personally would now install a stock Rom via Odin and get the phone working again. Then start again installing your rom of choice. Ensure that you use an old stock firmware as newer versions have the fuse security feature. What recovery did you use. I had similar issues with Philz so now I use official CMW.

Thank you, I give it a try! I did a full wipe and reinstalled Jamal AOSP GE. Now it is working again.
I will remove PhilZ, put CWM, than flash OMEGA + new kernel

There are two types of cwm
Temporary - for users of stock kernel or custom kernel that uses stock recovery
Permanent - cwm is built into the custom kernel & replaces stock recovery
if you want a permanent cwm flash a kernel with permanent cwm (see the kernel features in it's thread)

there has been a permanent cwm for galaxy y for years!!
there are two types of cwm
1 - tempory cwm zip
flash this in stock recovery to get to cwm - needs to be flashed each time you want to enter cwm
2 - permanent cwm
flash a custom kernel with cwm built in - this replaces stock recovery
If you want a permanent cwm just flash a kernel that has cwm built it!

thats exactly what i meant! the first option is hardly permanent, especially if you accidentally delete the .zip.
and what if someone doesn't want to flash kernels?
other phones have a .zip that you flash once and have cwm permanently. that's what i meant by a permanent cwm!

Then get another phone that has that function.
Remember, our phones are not godly, not everything-can-do phones. They are only bottom-range phones. Hardware and software limitations cause this issue. If you want to fix it, do it yourself.
But if you want to contradict yourself and say "I wanna stick to my little Y" then flash a kernel.
Which is essentially in a zip.
And then you get permanent CWM.
Problem solved.

other phones work in a different way - for example HTC phones have fastboot and a recovery totally different from a samsung galaxy y 5360
the only way in this phone to replace the recovery perminantly is to flash a kernel that has it

Problem while flashing CWM recovery. Plzz help

I was trying to install CWM for Galaxy Y(via .zip) which was successful but whenever I boots into recovery mode it boots to stock recovery rather than CWM. I have tried installing two CWM .zip files but both show same result.
P.S Can I flash Galaxy Gio's CWM on Galaxy Y?

why are you repeating the question it is already answered in your last post
anyways there are two types of cwm
temporary cwm - you have to flash it from stock recovery to get cwm ( the one you are using now)
permenant cwm - which replaces stock recovery
to get a permanent cwm you have to install a kernel which has an integrated cwm with it
Use only Galaxy y's CWM
ClockWorkMod Recovery is temperory if you flash it via stock.
Permanent CWM comes with the kernel. So flash a kernel that has CWM replacing stock recovery.
DONT FLASH CWM THAT WAS NOT MADE FOR YOUR DEVICE.
Dont use CWM of Galaxy Gio.
P.S. Dont repeat questions and spam the forum.

[Q] CWM Boot Loop

Hi,
I installed CWM v6.0.5.3 from the CM11 thread here onto my rooted stock rom so that I could do a nandroid backup.
It installed OK and I did the backup but now it always boots into CWM!
When I select "reboot system now" it also complains that "root access it missing". Selecting yes to root device doesn't get rid of this message on subsequent boots.
I can still get into download mode and I can use Odin to re--flash stock rom which enables me to boot correctly, but then I've lost all my data. Ironically I only installed CWM to do a backup and I don't have any other backup!
I can see other threads with similar problems but they're on other devices and the fix.zip's don't work on the Y.
I'd appreciate any help.
Regards,
Paul.
Some more info...
Even after flashing the stock ROM and re-installing CWM 6.0.5.3 I get the same issue.
I've tried using a temporary CWM v5 but this is unable to restore the backup.
Thanks...
Just thinking out loud now...
Is there a way to manually restore data.yaffs2.img from the backup without installing CWM 6.0.5.3?
It's not a problem. On flashing CWM 6.0.5.3 it converts the system to MTD from RFS which prevents it from booting due to lack of compatible ROM. CWM 6.0.5.3 can't be used with any GB or ICS ROM. It needs KK and for that you have to flash CM 11. Hope this helps.

You didn't install cwm6 - you flashed a kernel only meant for cm11 that has cwm6 built in - this kernel will not work on stock roms
Simply mount system then flash a stock based kernel like hells fusion #50
In future use cwm5 to make backups of stock roms - hells fusion kernel has it built in
Ah, and I thought I was being clever by going for the latest version!
I'll try flashing that kernel and let you know...
Hi,
From CWM 6.0.5.3 I mounted /system and installed hells fusion #50, but the phone still boots into CWM 6.0.5.3.
I tried also installing the stock kernel from the aroma installer, but still ended up in CWM 6.0.5.3.

Paul

Maybe its a build.prop issue with the zip and not flashing it
Try flashing a stock kernel via odin like the following (place in pda)
http://d-h.st/18f
If not you will have to flash an entire stock rom firmware via odin
I tried flashing that kernel with Odin, but when I boot I just get stuck on the Samsung logo.
Thanks for your help and time, but it looks like the backup I took with v6 isn't of any use, and I'll have to start again from fresh.
But I might run with Hell's Fusion as that looks good!
The reason I started all this was because the phone keeps messing up whilst in a call e.g. putting the call on hold, or speaker. I've tested the proximity sensor and thats OK, so I was going to try a custom ROM to see if that cured the problem.

If you can get into recovery now it should be cwm5
You can try flashing hells fusion now and see if it boots - if not flash stock rom via odin
