Hi guys, I've searched quite extensively but haven't found any solution yet...
I have a rooted Defy+ (see my sig for details). I had to flash an sbf for this, but so far so good. I have made quite a bit of tuning, and now would like to overclock & use different governors, ...
I have tried several solutions :
- overclocking menu in 2ndInit : no success (all modifications are just ignored)
- find a kernel with overclocking and undervolting possibilities : haven't found anything flashable, except of course full ROMS but I don't want to go that way (yet)
- use a software like "Milestone-Overclock" or SetVSel : no success (these apps are not compatible with MB526)
Have I missed something ?
Try this it worked for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25887427
At least with SETVSEL from market.
Install it with CWM this will update the bootmenu and will add Twrp and others things.
Then SETVSEL will work.

Thanks for your answer. :good:
I managed to get something workable downloading the 4_clock_speeds.zip from the URL you shared :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25479166&postcount=16203
I overwrote the files, fixed the permissions, and copied some .ko librairies to have at the end the possibility to save some overclocking settings in 2ndInit. There are still some issues in 2ndInit (I only see the first 3 clocks so I can't manage the highest frequency and voltage), but at least, I can play with the overclock.conf file to change the settings. And this works : currently using [email protected] as a max freq.
I'll probaly end-up flashing the file provided in your post to have something more user friendly !
Try to use now SETVSEL from market.

It shouldn't be a problem. Be sure that overclock status in a bootmenu is enabled and that you save your changes before you leave this menu and reboot.
I have installed even the latest cm9 as multiboot from quarx2k but the rom shows Max freq. 1000mhz (in 2nd init I have 1200mhz).

If you want to do it, you need more power. Increase Vsel (guessing it's vsel4) @ 1200mhz to 68 but never go above 70.
How can i add the vsel4 because i have in 2nd init only 3 vsel

Doesn't really matter if you have 3 or 4 vsel's. If you've changed Clk3 to 1200mhz then you should increase voltage of vsel3 to 68. For more info on this see this blog

first install motorola overclock and load module and then use setcpu to change the frequency...this solution worked for many..
if ur phone keeps restarting that means that the voltage is very low..change the voltage first in bootmenu and then try to open setcpu..
hope it works

Phill known developer of safe kernel for i9100 is now on N7000 too and with bless of him we have now safe stock kernel for ICS ROM for N700
Here brief note about PhilZ-cwm6 Kernel
-mmc erase cap command is disable from both recovery as well kernel
-You can safely wipe with this kernel, as well flash zip file too.
-This also available in flashable zip format and you can flash from stock recovery too.
-You will get root added with flashing this kernel
-Clockworkmod 6 for added features (incremental backups...) and smoother GUI
-PhilZ-cwm6 comes naively with the last busybox 1.20.2, that is entirely part of the cwm recovery (/sbin/busybox)
Here is original thread for kernel

New safe kernel on the way
I have tested kernel. This kernel won't universal for all but just like Cf kernel. It will be according ROM. B'coz here there is no other modification from stock kernel but just made it safe by removing mmc_erase_cap command.
This is stock kernel but binary patched with MMC_CAP_ERASE removed from both recovery as well kernel
Best thing is you can flash with stock recovery and also gives root.
So anyone want to test let me know.

Sorry,
Did not want all this buzz
It is the same PhilZ-cwm6 released for the i9100. See my signature for what it is about
Actually, I was about to release for the Note, but there are small issues I need to fix before even release further beta
There are 2 options:
- stock with cwm6 + patched MMC_CAP
- same as above + some features like customboot.ss, init.d and custom boot animation (you can still keep the samsung anim of course), something like CF-Root from which this kernel is inspired
I prefer 2nd option even if it seems to be more work at first sight. The reason is the i9100 kernel is already based on theses features. I can automate all the process for future kernels and it would be easier to maintain one version of script for both phones
For now, I have to rebuild my dev environment include OS reinstall and maybe increase RAM
Give me 2-3 days to sort this and maybe release first kernels
Meantime, you can still tell if you prefer option 1 or 2, porting builder scripts shouldn't be difficult after all
2nd option with custom bootanims

Ok, been dying to ask this.
Been searching everywhere but can't find any good info about new governors introduced in 2.3, Nightmare and HYPER.
Does anybody have a good explanation about those?
And then in relation to the known governors like Ondemand and Interactive for example.
Thanks!
I've been wanting to ask the same. I haven't been able to find any description about those two governor.

A modified PegasusQ, less aggressive (Which means not as good performance-wise), and doesn't usually hotplug. It is good for a balance between performance and battery life. May prevent the 'Screen of death' as well, since it doesn't hotplug.

i would like it if updating root and busybox was left up to the device's owner also, but it is dorimanx's kernel so he can do whatever he wants with it. as a developer he is not obligated to pacify the people choosing to use his kernel.
Trickster reports the BusyBox installation as incomplete, and since the kernel auto-installs busybox on boot too I can't fix it. Seems like a lot happens on every boot that isn't necessary. I'm happy with the kernel, just wish some of those things were dialed back.

the reason trickster reports that is because dorimanx is using a modified busybox to get some things working with his kernel and trickster doesnt recognize it. he said in his thread that he has fixed that and will be with next release.

Honestly if you don't understand then you should stick with the stock kernel. Or stick with this kernels default settings. It's just safer to do till you can get a better understanding of what the settings do.

Google the respective governors & schedulers. They're not unique to this device and will generally operate the same across all the devices that support them. That's going to give you a better understanding than anything that the context of this thread will allow.
When you do feel confident enough to start playing with the settings, do a full back up first.

you could try a custom kernel but if you are running an AOSP ROM, go into your settings and go into performance. You'll see a tab saying governors and change your governor to something else other than a batter saver such as "powersave" to something like "ondemand".
