Stock kernel with MMC_CAP_ERASE command disabled is ready Now. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Phill known developer of safe kernel for i9100 is now on N7000 too and with bless of him we have now safe stock kernel for ICS ROM for N700
Here brief note about PhilZ-cwm6 Kernel
-mmc erase cap command is disable from both recovery as well kernel
-You can safely wipe with this kernel, as well flash zip file too.
-This also available in flashable zip format and you can flash from stock recovery too.
-You will get root added with flashing this kernel
-Clockworkmod 6 for added features (incremental backups...) and smoother GUI
-PhilZ-cwm6 comes naively with the last busybox 1.20.2, that is entirely part of the cwm recovery (/sbin/busybox)
Here is original thread for kernel

New safe kernel on the way
I have tested kernel. This kernel won't universal for all but just like Cf kernel. It will be according ROM. B'coz here there is no other modification from stock kernel but just made it safe by removing mmc_erase_cap command.
This is stock kernel but binary patched with MMC_CAP_ERASE removed from both recovery as well kernel
Best thing is you can flash with stock recovery and also gives root.
So anyone want to test let me know.

Sorry,
Did not want all this buzz
It is the same PhilZ-cwm6 released for the i9100. See my signature for what it is about
Actually, I was about to release for the Note, but there are small issues I need to fix before even release further beta
There are 2 options:
- stock with cwm6 + patched MMC_CAP
- same as above + some features like customboot.ss, init.d and custom boot animation (you can still keep the samsung anim of course), something like CF-Root from which this kernel is inspired
I prefer 2nd option even if it seems to be more work at first sight. The reason is the i9100 kernel is already based on theses features. I can automate all the process for future kernels and it would be easier to maintain one version of script for both phones
For now, I have to rebuild my dev environment include OS reinstall and maybe increase RAM
Give me 2-3 days to sort this and maybe release first kernels
Meantime, you can still tell if you prefer option 1 or 2, porting builder scripts shouldn't be difficult after all

2nd option with custom bootanims

Download, install, and run it.
You must be on an ICS Rom for it to work, though.

It also won't work with Samsung's official ICS kernels.
It'll work with DAFUQ or the CM9 kernel.
It might also be possible to backport support for it to Gingerbread, but not really worth the effort now that we have kernel source and can produce safe ICS kernels with TA support.
thanks

That was quick, looking forward to some killer kernels in the future.
There are 3 files there *_MEA, *_SEA & *_SWA . Any idea what the difference is between these sources (if any)?

I am not sure what region-specific changes could be in a kernel! Guess I will need to download and have a look. I wanted to add some governors to the kernel -- lulzactiveq mainly, from Gokhan's sources, because I was getting great performance with that on the S3.

Sorry to disappointing you, but codeworkx (Major CM developer) has publicly announced that he's not going to do anything with Exynos based devices because Samsung didn't release a proper documentation for it.

Source compile fine out-of-the-box btw (not always the case with Samsung). No device yet, so not sure if it boots (not always the case with Samsung )...

From an AOSP perspective : This means that if anyone is willing to take the effort it should be possible to have a CM10 build up. Unfortunately, the kernel is not the only thing needed and the CM devs are disillusioned with Samsung.
Don't hold your breath, but actually the learnings from S3 which has a decent working build should help if someone wants to do it.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
If anyone is trying to compile the Samsung source drop, a heads up: the Cypress touchkey drivers are missing from the source. Use the driver sources from the I9300 update 5 (/drivers/input/keyboard/cypress). Works fine with that.

So I don't really understand anything about sources, I have to ask: Is this the Exynos source that devs have been upset about not being able to access?

[Q]Defy rom development problems

PROBLUMS HAVE BEEN SOLVED BY KAYANT. THX FOR HIM
Problem comes here.
Some of my friends from our association including me want to develop roms based on AOKP or cm, and those development projects are based on STOCK kernel for it is less likely to crack and are much easier to test.
WHEN I dealt with 4.1.2, I made a mixture of it (mostly framework) with the older 4.1.1-stock kernel rom, and was finally able to boot on stock 2.3 kernel. (see my post on Defy General)
BUT HOW can I transplant/fix those 2NDBOOT ROMS to STOCK KERNEL without MAKING a 'mixture'? The method mentioned above is NOT able to make the latest 4.2 rom to boot.
ps. removing the custom kernel and change default bootmode into 2ndinit IS USELESS.

[Resolved]How to extract and flash the latest original HTC kernel for gingerbread?

How would I go about extracting the kernel from this source, into a flashable zip to replace the kernel used in this gingerbread rom i'm using? Source of what kernel I want to use: http://www.4shared.com/zip/tJZoc2oq/PD15IMG__234_new__.html

I'm trying to use the kernel from an original virgin unrooted GB found at the link. It's T-mobile's official version
And I'm trying to use it with Android Revolution HD™ 7.0.4
Why such the urge to use a certain kernel. Not too sure if the my sense kernel would work with sense3.5

[Q] TouchControl app on stock kernel of 4.3

I can't post in the official development thread, so I've posted here:
Does anyone know if TouchControl (aka slide2wake) app works on the stock kernel of 4.3 version?
If it doesn't, any solution to make it works?
Thanks
No.
You will need a custom kernel which has the feature to work.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks.
Can you suggest me a stable kernel with this feature in it?
No one has really made a custom 4.3 kernel except for Franco but that only has a few changes. You'll have to wait for the Dev to actually update the app and he'll release a modified stock kernel like before

What he said. The pure stock kernel has injecting disabled or whatever it was so the dev of Touch Control would need to compile stock kernel and remove that security feature.

Actually, I think the developer of touchwake has to update this mod to be compatible with 4.3. So just wait out for a while.

The developer also needs a kernel based on 4.3 for it to work as well. Not just the app, as the app relies on the kernel and the kernel relies on the injection from the app.
Thanks to all, I'll wait for a modified stock kernel by the developer app.
They discovered a way to modify the stock 4.3 kernel on a Galaxy Nexus to make Touch Control work!
So it's just a question of days until we get a modified kernel for the Nexus 4.
Hopefully...
