Ok, been dying to ask this.
Been searching everywhere but can't find any good info about new governors introduced in 2.3, Nightmare and HYPER.
Does anybody have a good explanation about those?
And then in relation to the known governors like Ondemand and Interactive for example.
Thanks!
I've been wanting to ask the same. I haven't been able to find any description about those two governor.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817
That thread has comprehensive info about governors and schedulers, but no mention of nightmare and hyper.

Info about governors (Hyper and others, no Nightmare)... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663809
A bit of info about Nightmare (credit to ming86)...
A modified PegasusQ, less aggressive (Which means not as good performance-wise), and doesn't usually hotplug. It is good for a balance between performance and battery life. May prevent the 'Screen of death' as well, since it doesn't hotplug.

Yes, you can use trickster, might have a busybox problem as some have with 2.3, but other than, yes you can.

Why does STweaks auto-install root on each reboot by default? Anyone flashing the kernel and running STweaks is rooted already, so what's the point?

i would like it if updating root and busybox was left up to the device's owner also, but it is dorimanx's kernel so he can do whatever he wants with it. as a developer he is not obligated to pacify the people choosing to use his kernel.
Trickster reports the BusyBox installation as incomplete, and since the kernel auto-installs busybox on boot too I can't fix it. Seems like a lot happens on every boot that isn't necessary. I'm happy with the kernel, just wish some of those things were dialed back.

the reason trickster reports that is because dorimanx is using a modified busybox to get some things working with his kernel and trickster doesnt recognize it. he said in his thread that he has fixed that and will be with next release.

Honestly if you don't understand then you should stick with the stock kernel. Or stick with this kernels default settings. It's just safer to do till you can get a better understanding of what the settings do.

Google the respective governors & schedulers. They're not unique to this device and will generally operate the same across all the devices that support them. That's going to give you a better understanding than anything that the context of this thread will allow.
When you do feel confident enough to start playing with the settings, do a full back up first.

I am not sure what region-specific changes could be in a kernel! Guess I will need to download and have a look. I wanted to add some governors to the kernel -- lulzactiveq mainly, from Gokhan's sources, because I was getting great performance with that on the S3.

Sorry to disappointing you, but codeworkx (Major CM developer) has publicly announced that he's not going to do anything with Exynos based devices because Samsung didn't release a proper documentation for it.
Source:

Source compile fine out-of-the-box btw (not always the case with Samsung). No device yet, so not sure if it boots (not always the case with Samsung )...

From an AOSP perspective : This means that if anyone is willing to take the effort it should be possible to have a CM10 build up. Unfortunately, the kernel is not the only thing needed and the CM devs are disillusioned with Samsung.
Don't hold your breath, but actually the learnings from S3 which has a decent working build should help if someone wants to do it.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
If anyone is trying to compile the Samsung source drop, a heads up: the Cypress touchkey drivers are missing from the source. Use the driver sources from the I9300 update 5 (/drivers/input/keyboard/cypress). Works fine with that.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
So I don't really understand anything about sources, I have to ask: Is this the Exynos source that devs have been upset about not being able to access?

Looking for testers!
Begin of Orange Kernel
I thought lets try to make a kernel my own. After a few weeks of looking to the right stuff I finally got a builded kernel. Now I just need some testers!
That was the beginning of Orange kernel. The name "Orange" is from the country I live in (The Netherlands) our king's house last name is "Van Oranje nassau". So I thought lets name my kernel that way!
Features
Governors added: Pegasusq, zzmove,smartassv2
Not really much stuff. I know, but I am trying to learn!

Please tell me!
Isn't booting right now!

Please no mirroring!

Probably known around here, but, this Moto X kernel works on Droid Maxx, all phone functions still work too, like active display ect. The dev isn't updating it but the source is available , for those of you like me who build your own.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/orig-development/kernel-22-12-2013-enhanced-kernel-t2579884
Faux123 has a current kernel also with back ported features, active display works but you need to completely remove the Aon.apk / Aon.odex from the /priv-app folder and re download from the Play Store.
One thing I noticed with either custom kernel is active display is not as "active" , but does still function and for performance I did not have any better or worse functionality as far as gaming / benchmarking / battery life with either custom kernel.
faux's kernel works fine for me.
