Hi, I need some help on deciding if I should get a HTC Touch or not. I have a Nextel/Sprint Hybrid ic902 currently but I played with my friend's iPhone and I like it. I wanted to get a PDA/Smartphone and the closest thing would be the Touch. I played with it at the Sprint store and it seems pretty nice. I don't really use my Nextel Direct Connect that much so I might want to switch over. I use over 500 texts a month and I check my Gmail periodically. I might want to use AIM if its capable on the HTC Touch. So if you guys can help me out with deciding to get the phone or should I wait and see what else Sprint comes out with. Tell me what you guys think. Thanks in advance for anybody who helps.
I had to make the exact same decision, and I decided to go with the touch, for several reasons.
First, I use the phone as a PDA as much (or even moreso) as a phone. You can't beat the syncing of the Touch. I use Sherweb for a hosted Exchange 2007 server (about $8 a month). I enter something in Outlook or on the web interface, and it shows up on my phone. Or, I enter a new contact in my phone, it shows up on my desktop. I *never* have to plug in my phone to sync it. Also, the Touch is much more customizable and has 3rd party apps. The iPHone has no apps without hacking right now, and I'm sure it's going to be a pain and expensive when they do finally come out. Also, EVDO >> EDGE for streaming (you can use vTap for Youtube, and Sprint TV comes on there).
However, the iPhone is a much better media player.
So, if you want a phone to play MP3s and videos, go iPhone. If you want it more as a business tool, go Touch.
What put it over for me was the price. I got the Touch for $250 after rebate, and a $30 SERO plan (500 minutes, unlimited text, data). The iPhone is gonna cost you $400 and run you $60 a month with only 200 text - you'll have to upgrade to get to 500.
So, now, you can do what I did. I got the Touch on SERO, and justified spending some of the $870 I'll save over 2 years and bought the $300 iPod Touch
I have a great media player, and the better phone., and still saved $600.

Well I will have to buy the Touch from like eBay and pay like $300...And I get 25% discount from UPS off my bill...I was wondering how would get my contacts off of my SIM card to the HTC Touch..?..And I would be using Gmail for my email..Is it hard to get Gmail on the phone..?
Ah, forgot to mention the iPhone has the better browser. I mostly only browse news sites, which format well on the HTC Touch. If I have Wi-Fi available, I use my iPod Touch. Otherwise, I just make do with NetFront. Hopefully, Opera Mobile 9.5 will put the Sprint Touch more inline with the iPhone.
Getting the contacts off the SIM depends on what kind of phone you have. Can you sync it do a computer? If so, you can import them into Outlook. If not, you might be stuck. There are some USB SIM readers, I think, but I don't know how much they cost. Since you can just type the contacts into a computer (instead of keying them on the phone), if you don't have 100s of contacts, you might just be best off typing them in manually.
Getting Gmail on the Touch is easy. You can use IMAP or POP3, whichever you prefer. Obviously, IMAP is the best. Don't know what it does to your battery life, but I have mine on push mail, and I still have about 70% of the battery left when I go to bed (maybe down to 50 if I did a lot of surfing). IMAP should be comparable. (In contrast, my Moto Q was on push mail - I took it off the charger at 7am and it was completely dead by 10pm). Anyway, mail is easy on either phone.
Go to a sprint store they will do it for free.

Cool. I have to try the ShareWeb to see what it's Like. That sounds awesome.
My two cents on the issue:
-iPhone doesn't have Bluetooth. (I use blutooth like crazy. I use the Motorola S9 stereo Bluetooth headset with the touch and also I got a Stereo Bluetooth receiver from Sony that I've installed in the car. So the touch is my media player at the Gym and in the Car. Its awesome.) You should install the HTC Adio Manager. It's not anything close to the iPhone's Media Player, but gets the job done.
-iPhone's Internet speed is really bad (unless you use the WiFi). GPRS vs EVDO and Soon RevA. It's no Brainer.
-The memory Card:with iPhone you can't increase the memoy size. You are stuck with 8GB max. With the Touch for now the largest is 8GB microSD, but you can have multiple of those. Maybe soon they will come out with larger cards than that.
I also heard people having problems when the phone goes in standby mode that they don't receive calls and stuff...Is this true..?
i get calls in standby an the new opera browser and the picsel browsers are awesome. I have no iphone envy. I dont even feel the need to copy its theme haha. The way I look at it, if you want a media player grab the iphone, if you want a handheld computer grab the touch. (I use it to freehand draw all the time)

Honestly some people have problems others don't. I haven't had many of the problems many people have talked about and if they did they only happened once or twice. I love my touch and wouldn't change it for any other phone that sprint has right now.
Took the Plunge
Well - I took the plunge. I have two T-Mobile MDA's that are showing their age.
Went shopping. I was turned off by T-Mobile's inability to get a 3G network going. I saw the spec's on the Kaiser and loved it. But money drove me to Sprint. I get a 25% cut in the cellular plan thanks to my job. Kinda hard to pass that up. So it came down to the Titan or Vogue.
I chose the CPU & RAM boost. I dont think I will miss the WiFi. If RevA is as fast as I have been hearing...I should be happy. I'm coming from EDGE Speed, so anything should look like an improvment.
I ordered two of them today from LetsTalk.com and I should get them by Friday. I guess I will join the rest in "THE GREAT ROM WAIT" waiting for the GPS/REV A to get unlocked even tho I do have a BT GPS receiver I got for the MDA's
I guess I will update my Signature after I get the new toys
Gratz on the choice, but I question your sanity for buying from Let's Talk. I assume the Touch is "free" after rebate. Just be sure to mark your calendar, because you usually have to send it in between 180 and 210 days after purchase, or something like that. Then expect to wait another 6 months for the money to show up. Besides that nonsense, they royally screwed up my port, and then delayed shipping. I was without a phone for a week, very annoying.
Anyway, since it's too late for you, I hope you enjoy the phone anyway
1st time around went ok
I purchaced the two MDA's from them and all went well. Made an issue of sending the rebates the day I received them. 2.5 months later the checks arrived. The whole "REBATE" thing is good business....so many people dont fill them out.
As for porting.... I guess I will find that out soon. Porting both #'s
Porting is a pain, I work as Tech Support for the local cable company and we offer digital phone service.....porting #"s is a crapshoot sometimes.
**********UPDATE************
The Phones have shipped Should get them Tuesday

I had a problem with my phone not waking from sleep until I disabled the time syncronization (under phone settings). My phone was freezing at least daily and, since disabling synchronization, it's been solid for three weeks.

I second that statement.
You can can transfer your contacts through bluetooth. And I also had ic902 and bought HTC touch and I transfered my contacts through BT.

Yeah what he said... I had a Motorola v551 and just transferred the contacts over to my new Bell Touch (Actually its a Vogue... go figure). It was a pain to xfer them individually but hey why not...
Also I have only had my Touch a grand total of 5 1/2 days and already i dont know how i lived WITHOUT it!
If you have some iPhone/Blackberry envy like I did but want something more out of the phone then the Touch is the wayyyyy to gooooO!
Hope that helped sway your decision!
I have the touch and love it. 4gb mem card full of music no need for ipod. Highly customizable w/ free apps, Blue tooth with Jaybird gear headphones. Love it and can't put it down which is why it's 3:00 am and still mesing withit!
I got my titan about a week ago from ebay. And after a week of dealing with sprint to get it activated they told me it can't be activated in the system but luckily I had called before I purchased my phone to confirm the ESN was good and they reassured me it was so there going to send me a replacement titan. They told me I don't need to return my phone so basically I have an extra phone that can't be connected on sprint.
So how can I make this a productive phone with out cellular coverage and is there a way to lock the phone from placing calls?

well, it has WiFi, so you can use it as a mini internet tablet around the house, you could use it to stream music wirelessly from your PC, watch youtube vids, use it as a regular PDA or even use it to test custom ROMs
i thought it was possible to change the esn to a 6700 or another 6800... that would give you a working sprint phone to use..
Use it as a dedicated GPS, just need an app that has the maps on the phone already.
Thanx for the ideas, I was thinking of trying android on it.
Sell it for parts - They are going around ~100+ for bad esn phones. Would help pay for the working one.

So is there an Android ROM for the Titan somewhere?
I ran got a copy of it in this website
http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/
you unzip it to your sd card and run the exe file. I was disappointed since it runs on ram so its slooow and buggy but its worth looking at.
Flash it to Cricket then sell it. Cricket excepts bad ESNs. Or sell it to me.
limitless possibilities
1. it has wi-fi, so you have all the net
2. if you don't have wireless, you can use the new mogul as a wi-fi router, and you will have internet etc. which can all be run thru blue tooth. I am currently doing this with my working titan and an old blue angel. Really sweet!!!!!
3. it uses micro SD cards which are now cheaper than dirt. You can load Music galore and stream out thru BT, my wife is an avid reader and you can load a hell of a lot of books onto a 1-2G card
It can do damn near everything except make an independent phone call. You could probably VOIP it too.
Enjoy the free toy!!
Why can't it be activated? Is it on the bad list, if so that can sometimes be removed.
Without a network connection you wont get aGPS so no chance of instant gps lock. But it will still function reasonably well as a gps after you get a lock. I would recommend installing quickgps and htc gps tool and use it as a gps device (along with a off network gps program such as TomTom Nav, iNav, GarminXT etc.
It could also be a reasonable MP3/vid player but a lot bulkier than purpose built devices.
I like the idea of using it as a mini tablet pc and buy yourself on of those full size bluetooth keyboards (the virtual keyboard I mean, not the actual one).
Android hacking would be fun too.
I had the same problem, but I couldn't activate it because it wasn't a sprint phone...being with GSM I didn't know about that stupid rule.
so, I just flashed it with a cooked rom and sold it to someone with sprint.
Cut my losses, bought for 200 sold for 200...Never been so glad to get rid of a phone in my life.
VIOP
i didnt see anyone mention it...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1516154&postcount=12
I would offer to send it to the guy developing the vogue port of Android so that he can have a titan to develop with which could help out the effort of getting Android on our devices and finally get rid of WinMo which is just bleh.
Thanx for all the input, I ended up selling it on ebay. I just couldn't see my self carrying 2 titans at the same time.
By the way is there a way to make the sprint mogul work on the nextel network? I'm already planing on moving to the touch pro but I dislike my work phone Nextel motorola i580 (the worst phone i've ever used). I know there is a way to put a sim card reader on the mogul but I also know that nextel uses iden instead of cdma.
This plan is currently in the works and by no means confirmed working. Once confirmed I'll outline detailed methods, and possibly sell working units to the masses if nobody beats me to it. More on the concept further down.
Currently Bell is charging $15/month for 2MB of data! That's right megabytes not gigabytes.
Anyways, I'm not here to sell anything really. I just want cheap free data usage. I live and breath around open access WIFI hotspots, and I know this phone supports it. Not to mention the Touch is a great buy ($0 upfront).
So while my 2MB plan is crap, I can use it when I'm not around WIFI.
This post goes out to customers of BELL Mobility (Canada) and SPRINT(USA).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Upon proceeding with this "mod", I make two assumptions:
1. The WIFI circuit and antenna are non-existent within CDMA chipsets, which leaves room for more memory than the GSM version of Touch.
2. The WIFI chip and antenna ARE existent but the issued ROMs ignore it's function for annoyance purposes.
Now that's out of the way, here's the concept.
1. Log onto fleebay and Purchase a normal size SD WIFI card with some internal memory of course
2. Mod an obsolete microSD card to carry the pin configuration over to the standard sized WIFI SD card, using thin ribbon cable as the raceway.
With this type of mod, you could close the battery door, and side panel. Of course there will be external circuitry hanging out. I'm planning on adhering it to the back of the door somehow to keep the phone looking cool!
There you have it, a modded Touch which can carry over WIFI capabilities externally.
Was thinking the same thing yesterday. But instead of building a SD-to-microSD adapter, I believe there is already one out there:
http://www.ameri-rack.com/APA-TFC1m.html
Not sure how to purchase from them though...
Also, would you think this mod would work with this? because basically this is what I want, as I have unlimited data (but I don't like WM's browser):
http://www.youtubetoipod.biz/guide/turn-your-ipod-toucn-into-a-3g-iphone.html
I think you are referring to the Ipod Touch which is a great device. But I am referring to the HTC touch CDMA version which is a device already sold as a phone without any mods of course. Big difference, Microsoft and Mac difference.
Although everything I described relates to the first link you posted. That is exactly what I have in mind. I had no idea someone beat me to a full out production version.
I would buy that for $100 even though it would be worth $5 or less in mass produced parts. If they want more than $100 for that extender, I'll build my own and flaunt it at the Bell shop.
But as far as I'm concerned, thanks xDarKnighTx for the link!
Aside from that, there already is a microSD wifi card prototype out there which sticks out like a sore thumb. Good luck closing the battery door and side panel.
wifi
wifi has been one of my peeves about the touch. from what i have read the hardware in the phone does not exist so i think its safe to say the rom is not the problem releasing wifi. a hardware adaption does not seem that far off. i know the microsd card wifi has been rumored but either does not exist or it is crap. supposed the mini sd wifi card was crap. your theory is to go microsd to sd and then sd wifi?
my thinking was a usb plug in for wifi. a plug in antenae that way would be easy to put in and take out. i thought for sure some mfg would already have created one. maybe the usb circuitry prevents this?
To sum up - microSD ---> to SD ---> to Wifi.
USB Wifi would be a great option and has been done before with earlier PDA's. Not sure about any success with the HTC Touch though.
UPDATE:
I Just purchased a Spectec 802.11b Wifi SD Card for a good price. There is no internal memory on this chip. If I get it working then I'll spend more money and upgrade to a WIFI chip with memory.
Now for the microSD mod...
Just an FYI re: Bell's data plans.

Not that I'm against WiFi, but unlimited internet through Bell is only $15/m.
Quoting Bell.ca:
"The Fun 15 bundle includes Call Display, Message Centre Express, 200 sent text, picture and video messages, unlimited received messages and Unlimited Mobile Browser."
They've been offering this package for quite some time, and it's applicable to Bell's Touch.
What Bell DOESN'T make 100% clear (though if you go to their stores they will), is that internally Bell doesn't count the Touch as a smartphone because it doesn't have a full qwerty keyboard.
A few people asked me how I could afford data on Bell, as they were looking at the "Internet for Windows/Palm" type plans. Two of those friends went out and signed up with Bell.
The most I've moved through my Bell Touch in one month is 6.5 gigs (first month playing around), and never saw any overages, though most months I'm just shy of the 1gig mark. This works with Opera for full-html rendering, Newsbreak for RSS and podcast download as well as email.
Just one thing: don't tether your phone to a laptop through the standard WM tethering app or you'll probably get hit with a hefty bill (as it's mobile browsing only).
NOTE: I don't work for Bell, and don't particularly like them, but I'm definitely a happy customer with the data plan, because it's nationwide no roaming charges for data, and it's worked for me in Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec with no problems.
UPDATE:
I sent an email to AMERI-RACK expecting them only to ship the APA-TFC1 in bulk.
Good news, we have a microSD to SD adapter for only 26.75 plus shipping. You just have to email their support team with your address and request this device like I did.
To sum up this thread
The Wifi equation for the CDMA Touch:
AMERI-RACK's APA-TFC1 to link an SD-WIFI card - Thanks xDarKnighTx for the link
A SD WIFI card with memory which supports WM6 at least
Possible home brew ROM with WIFI drivers found in the connection manager
*I'm hoping there's a quick way around enabling WIFI on the software side. Anyone's input is appreciated.

I asked for the $15 Fun Bundle when I was phone shopping a few weeks ago. The store manager said it was only available with certain packages, with certain phones, and all of the packages she mentioned were available ONLY if you get a contract.
I bought a cheapie phone somewhere else after that... Their best offer was nearly double my old phone bill with Telus.
My apologies,
I'm not on the $15 2MB Data Plan. They set me up with Bell's "Fun 15" which includes unlimited browser, message center, callerID, and a few text messages. And apparently the Touch falls in this category.
I heard in a message board that certain programs (like possibly google maps / live mail) call in data as if it were a browser session. Meaning the application's DATA transfer counts towards your unlimited browser. At the same time, other programs call it in as if it were configured as a tethered modem connection where you get charged by the megabyte.
Confusing!
Anyway, I'm going ahead with my WIFI plan and will keep everyone updated with any progress.

I've been using a full modded HTC Touch with absolutely no issues with my data plans.
I was confused at first, and was told different things by different bell reps. Some told me that I required a special data plan to use a smart phone - and that the HTC Touch didn't use that phone as it wasn't a true "smart phone".
Then, I was told that the only data that I wouldn't be charged for is data loaded through the regular browser - This was quickly debunked.
I've used all types of services for over 1.5 months now. From streaming vide to Google Maps, to downloading music - Nothing has been charged as bandwidth. Mind you, i have an old data plan where I got unlimited 1X browsing and data (it used to be $5 - but I now get it for free ) - so that's the main reason i got the touch in the first place - the potential for modification and it's use of the 1X network.

Would you think that's possible with the SD wifi card?

That makes sense, so you have both the HTC Touch and IPOD Touch.
In order for a program like WMWifiRouter to turn your phone into a WIFI hotspot, there needs to be a few things in place.
My only challenge right now is enabling WIFI options in the COMM MANAGER. I'll experiment with different homebrew ROMS cautiously, and hope the SD WIFI drivers do all of the work for me.
UPDATE:
All of the hardware required is being shipped right now including the APA-TFC1 microSD adapter as well as a standard size WIFI card. Total cost right now $55-$60.
I thought I'd just confirm that Bell handles the Vouge as a regular cellphone (No extra PDA charges), also the unlimited data plan (Mine was $7 a month) is great. I've been using opera 9.2 (Whatever the newest one is) which loads pages just like a desktop pc, as well was downloading music, AVGN videos, whole SCUMM games (700MBs), using google maps and GPS and have not been charged an extra cent. It really is a great plan, and an awesome phone; definitely why I bought it.
Now all I have to do is work out how to hack tethering, not that I have much of a use for it right now.
Just in case you might want to persue a different route, the cdma htc touch actually has a pinout for the full size SD card on the mainboard, it's unknown if it's wired parallel to the microsd slot or not, but being SPI devices, it might very well be...
ya people have the great data plan with bell ya should work out something for sprint our cheapest data plan is $15
Ok, the SD wifi card is a very old idea. Just not gonna work. Yes, you will get internet but each time you want you have to search for access point, chose the right one, ... It just won't work in most case. Another problem is if you do have access to wifi, you normally will have access to a laptop.
Anyway, I am using Bell $7 unlimited Internet for a year now. I don't know why you need to pay $15 for 2MB. The $7 unlimited plan is really open. I am a software developer so I know how much data I used.

I've tried tethering to my EEE PC (running Win XP) using PDA Net from http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/index.php with no billing overages. It's a $35 program, but does have a trial available for testing. It worked for me when I tested it up at the cottage, and worked from out of province as well.

So, maybe to keep this from showing outside of the case. Can you get the extended battery cover and hide all of those guts(microsd adapter and sdwifi card) underneath it, if it works.
UPDATE:
I would like to make myself clear on a few things, and apologize in advance for any confusion.
When I bought my Vogue three weeks ago, I didn't realize it had "Unlimited data" as a bundle. This confusion was mainly due to their confusing rate plans and classification of the Vogue.
Therefore, I was initially ticked that I would have to pay $15 for 2 megabytes. This case is not true because Bell classifies the Vogue as a regular "dumbphone".
There you have my reasoning for wanting Wifi on this phone, not realizing I could freely use DATA on the phone under a small unlimited data bundle.
There is another reason for wanting Wifi:
Tethering
There are posts out there claiming to get "stealth" tethering where your phone carrier doesn't realize your laptop is connected and sees it as a normal internal cellular data connection. This seems to be a whole new thread as far as I'm concerned, so I'll stick with the plain old getting the WIFI working on the Vogue.
Right now the micro SD --> SD adapter is confirmed working.
Proof: I took pictures of this mod with a digital camera and immediately swapped the SD card into the adapter's slot. I was then able to use my phone to access the standard SD card.
The Wifi card isn't working. This has to do with the stock ROM and or Registry entries. I need to go over the registry perhaps.
Any help with registry settings is greatly appreciated.
So, I've gone out and bought the MyTouch 3g Slide, and most likely won't be going back to use my G1 as my daily driver. I have no plans to sell the G1, well, not yet anyways.
So what can be done with my G1? I was thinking of maybe using it as a navigation-only device. Problem is, with no SIM, I of course would need a nav system that stores the maps on the SD card. The phone is rooted, so I was wondering whats the best way to try and trim this phone down to almost nothing, so that all it will basically be able to do is load the nav app I install. Is this possible or already done?
I really liked this device. It did pop my Android cherry after all, and I don't just want it to collect dust.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I intentionally posted this in General, but after re-reading this, would it make more sense to post this in the Development forum? Can a mod move it if so...?
put it in a box and ship it to me this way your not selling it.... your giving it away
yeah... send it my way. My kid has been ogling my G1 forever now. He wants one soooo bad. LOL.
OK, aside from selling it, or giving it away, what else...
I've often thought of what to do with my G1 when and if a successor becomes available.
I personally would love it if some developers could get together to make a rom that would resemble what the Ipod Touch is to the Iphone. All the programs and games, no phone bits. Just use it as a personal media player. Or in my case, i use it as a wifi remote for my HTPC also.
Oh, and does it make you wonder..when 2.2 source is available to the public, would trimming out all the telephone parts make the G1(with dangerspl) upgradeable again?
Cancel your home landline, put google voice on the g1, keep it connected to wi-fi all the time, and you got free nation wide calling and a cheap international calling. Also since it is connected to wi-fi, you can still use it as a phone.
Send it to me pretty please (I need to update my N95).
... Okay fine, how about charity?
LOL ...no?
Well aside from using it as:
a second phone,
Digital camera (poor one),
PMP/iPod (listen to music/watch pictures/videos),
Portable gaming console (Atari, C64, Sega Genesis, GBA, SNES and Android games),
Home entertainment unit (surf on your couch with wifi) and
eBook reader (nonetheless poorly).
I can't think of anything else.
If you can't find another use for it besides just a mobile phone, you're really missing out and should just post it to me
Definitly new ipod or home phone
there's a pretty nifty howto over at instructables.com on using the G1 to power a home-made robot
http://www.instructables.com/id/Android-G1-Serial-To-Arduino/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541177&highlight=wifi+talk
I have mine on wifi and setup like this.. pretty cool as I now can use it as separate phone while at work, home etc .. and with the app penetrate I get even more use of the wifi

Ya know, I am planning on upgrading to the Touch Slide or whatever in a few months when I can afford it...when I do, I might just whip something up ROM wise that has no phone bits, but strictly media apps like:
WIFI Remote for various HTPC frontends (XBMC, MediaPortal, etc)
Music Apps (stock music, 3, etc)
Anything else I can think of
I think that would be a fun project. And considering everything in my home is OpenSource, it shouldn't be all that hard to find (or create) all the apps I need.
That sir, would be pimp.
But to cut down the rom size why not make those a flashable addon? Make it so they install to sd automatically maybe? The biggest thing would be to fit 2.2 on the phone, with support for apps to sd, jit, and all the other delicious froyo goodness.
Thanks for listening.
Use it as a dedicated SIP phone in wifi areas.
First get a google voice number and a gizmo5 sip number.
Forward your GV number to your regular cell number as well as your gizmo5 sip number using sipdroid (market) on the G1, so that when you're in wifi areas both your cell and your g1 will ring. Now you can answer either based on whatever... caller, importance, etc.
Make outgoing calls in wifi using all of the above and the GV callback program (market) so as to make totally free calls. Add some money to google voice for international.
Use it on the tabletop like a pda and take calls on your cell. actually very convenient. I've got a clamshell which I prefer for talking and can take more abuse than the G1.
Get a Tmobile $100 prepaid sim which is good for a year. That's 10c min and your own number for a year! ..and if you add any money to it the expiration is extended to a year from the add. At that price you can throw it in the car for 11 months and forget about it only to switch it to another phone later.
Put 2 grooves in it and call it an ashtray. -Bill Cosby
i have a retired htc magician which i am using as an alarm clock and listening to audio books. It served me well over the years. Was my first HTC phone. Battery still lasts more than a week...
Hi all,
I just bought a used LG Quantum from ebay. I would greatly appreciate all of your input to help me verify that this phone is working properly. I am upgrading from a Touch Pro 2, wm 6.5.
1. I don't see a water indicator sticker. Is there a blue sticker in the battery compartment to indicate water? I see a small hole that is white filled on the top left region, opposite the sim. Is this it?
2. How can I verify if the ROM is stock? Is there anyway for me to check to see if the previous owner has replaced the ROM or has done anything to the phone that might prevent the Mango update? Mango update is REALLY important, I have been holding off upgrading until Mango comes out.
3. I have been using the Touch Pro 2 without a data plan. I don't have a contract and don't want to enter a contract. All my datat usage is wifi, and it has served me well. I have wifi at the office, and wifi at home, therefore no need for a 3g data. In WM 6.5, I can turn off the 3g data modem. Can I do the same with this LG? I also have AT&T block data on their side, but I don't want any "accidental" data charges. I would feel much better if I can turn 3g off on my end.
4. How do I do a factory wipe? This might be necessary if the previous owner have not done so. It is currently charging so I haven't got the chance to mess with it. Its very hard waiting....
I might have more question as I go along. Thanks in advanced for everyone's help. I really love Windows Mobile and have been using Windows Mobile phone before the iPhone ever came out. I got my wife an Android phone, and I'm very disappointed with Android. I can't believe companies putting out Android phones that are not usable out of the box. You have dig for apps and install additional apps in order to make the phone acceptable for use. Anyway...thanks again everyone.
Update:
Well, I found the factory reset in the Setting menu, and have done it. I noticed that after resetting the phone, I went through the setup, and saw that in the setup process there was a check box for data option. I unchecked the box so that the phone would not use data. Does anyone know if that would stop any 3g data access?
Update:
It looks like no one wants to share their experiences, so I'll just go on with this monologue and post things as I find them.
I found the 3g data switch in the setting menu. So it looks like you can turn off 3g data and just use wifi.
Hey, I just got this phone as well. Local bell was clearing them out for 78.83. looks to be pretty cool. Just bought it as an extra phone. I don't think its anyone is ignoring you, this is just a low profile device haha. I've just updated it to Mango as well. Runs really well.

That's a really good price, did you have to sign a contract for it? I have been buying my phone on ebay to avoid contracts.

I've just connected my phone to the zune software for update to Mango, but it says the phone is up to date: 7.0 (7390).
I got impatient so I did the disconnect from the internet trick. Was a breeze and worked right away and I've had no problems with it.
Can someone verify for me if this is stock rom:
OS Version: 7.0.7390.0
Firmware Revision Number: 1.1.3.11
Hardware Revision Number: 1.1.0.0
Radio Software Version: 1.1.3.11
Radio Hardware version: 0.3.5.0
Bootloader Verson: 1.5.1.0
Chip SOC version: 0.30.2.0
I want to know if the NODO version is official or the beta.
Update:
ok guys, the windows phone gods have looked down and seen how I'm searching and poking around trying to verify my phone OS so that I can update to Mango; and they are smiling on me. Out of the blue today, the zune software said I have an update! Woohoo! Mango is coming, its been updating for 30 minutes now.
Update:
Now running Mango and loving it!
Does anyone know where the water indicator sticker is located on this phone?
Great to hear... I'm still waiting on mine. Trying to be patient.
You were right, the water indicator is the little hole that should be white when dry, and turns pink after getting wet. There's another, larger, square indicator on one end of the battery.
Otnos. I just bought mine as well on Ebay. Been waiting a long time to upgrade from my HTC Tilt to the new OS. I have to wait for mine to show up, but your rambling postings are great reading as i would ask similar questions being new to the WP7.5 world.

hahaha...Good to have you chime in. I'm liking WP more an more each day. AT&T recognized this phone and automatically listed it on my online account. I love thr fact that I can turn off data, in the Settings, Cellular page. I use wifi instead.
At first I was afraid that wifi would drain my battery fast, so I manually turn it off and on. But I have been reading and found that WP will turn of wifi when the screen is off, isn't that great? Now I just leave wifi on, and whenever I turn my phone on, it automatically have a data connection.
I don't use text either. Why pay AT&T $20 a month for this funtion!
Here is my work around. I use Google Voice. Set Google Voice to send text to your Hotmail account that you associated with your phone. When someone text to your Google Voice number, it INSTANTLY goes to your Hotmail. Your Windows Phone will receive a notification in the email live tile. You tap on the email tile to read the text and then reply by email. When you reply to that mail on your phone, your receipient will receive a TEXT reply. Voila! Free text.

lol...after describing in details how I can get free texting, I just discovered AT&T Go Phone (pre-paid plan) that has unlimited talk & text for just $50/month. This is a great plan for those of you in the US who have AT&T and no longer under a contract. I used to be on the $40/month plan that only gives me 450 minutes/month. Now I have switched over to their Go Phone prepaid plan that is $50/month ($55.01 with tax) and get unlimited Talk & Text! Data is also available but for additional fee.

I have a Tilt still and am curious to see what you think! I've been contemplating upgrading either to an LG Fathom, LG eXpo, or maybe a Quantum. However, the Samsung Captivate Glide was just announced, so maybe that's what I'll try... I wonder if it is worth getting a one or two year old brand new phone, when my then new Tilt has worked for over 3.5 years.

That is interesting. I have been out of my contract for some time. I am grandfathered with the $30/month unlimited data, and another $5/month for 200 texts. If I didn't travel so much, I think your option would really work. Once I change my plan though, there is no going back...

The quantum is a 1st Gen phone. If you are able, I think you should get a 2nd Gen phone instead.
So I'm probably buying one of these on ebay (I cant write on touchscreens so im in need of a smartphone android or WP with QWERTY on it).
Some questions:
-Whats the newest version of windows phone right now?
-Can LG Quantum be updated to that version?
-How's the battery on this model? Can I get 2 days with moderate use?
-Is anyone trying to make a graphic EQ to WP7? I think the lack of this basic multimedia feature is just ridiculous.
Thanks and sorry to make so much questions

WP7 newest version is Mango, and this LG Quantum can be updated to Mango. I'm running Mango right now.
The battery life is good, you can easy get 2 days moderate use.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by graphic EQ?
