not yet, in a hopefully short time a really good kernel will be released (that only works on a few devices yet)
maybe a few roms, but if sony release jb for play development will go faster.
at least sony is testing jb on play
you talk about the 3.0.x kernel of the Kexec topic nick?
nope, something better

Did you ask about P/Sola aswell?

not directly but they said: xperia 2012 line
so that's also the P and Sola
No offense, but I'm not taking the word of a forum poster who spoke to "a guy at Sony" that jb is being tested on the Play. The truth is this phone is in the process of being dropped by Sony, in fact I doubt its even being manufactured anymore. They have it working as is, and they have a whole new product line out there. JB is NOT coming to the Play.
then they can still testing it!
jb does only recommend 512mb ram where ics recommend 1024mb ram
for games much better!
project butter makes it even better for games!
but if you don't want to believe me, then you don't

Also, butter is the UI and some of the SDK. Most apps in ICS run in GB compatibility mode, so won't use the jb optimizations

A friend of mine recently got a Nexus and when he got it it had ICS and wouldnt run any GL games, now with JB he is running MC3 and several other GL games without any issues.... I never left GB as I game way too much but if JB ever came out and it worked for R800x (highly doubtful) then I might consider switching. Until then I will forever be on 2.3.3 (thank you VZ for the 2.3.4 train wreck you released)
Anyways, I am crossing my fingers for some news..... even if never switch to it.

Thought id start this thread to create a bit of build up to the upgrade, im a regular arc user so ive still got another month or so to wait but il feel good if the arc s gets theirs on time, which being the end of march could be any day now. Sony seem to be quiet on this, anyone heard anything?
I'm hoping they release the ICS for arc s by the end of this weekend, the suspense is killing me slowly lol. I check this forum and sony blog post every morning.
As they said late March to early April, that could mean the update would between 15 March and 15 April.
Would love to get an update from SE on the progress for the first phones that are due upgrades.
Clearly feeling a little bit left out now that Samsung are releasing theirs.
Hasn't HTC also updated a device?

I'm very enthusiastic about ICS too but doesn't it mean that we won't have our devices rooted anymore? I've linked tons of apps via Link2SD and my Arc don't have enough space to hold them all.
I'm worried when we will have to upgrade to ICS, AFAIK a lot of apps out there is not yet compatible with ICS, until the developer will upgrade the app.
But I'm also Excited because lots of optimization and features will be available to us, specially that Adreno 205 Driver will be included(I read it somewhere)

I think otherwise. Almost every app I tried is fully compatible with ICS.
Also, Sony has announced the neo L in China and it launches with ICS on board. It uses the same chipset as the arc (MSM8255). Perhaps we could port it when someone gets and uploads the filesystem dump, that is, if the device comes out sooner than the ICS update.
There's nothing on PTCRB yet and updates usually appear on here well in advance of the update actually being pushed. So it could still be weeks away assuming they haven't had any serious issues they need to fix first. It's been 4 weeks since the beta and not a peep from the Sony devs here on XDA which is a shame.

it seems that the latest Xperia Pro ICS firmware has been leaked!

ICS is great for us who pretty much just use the pad for emulators. Emulators work fine in ICS, and you get all the niceties (sadly the rotation animation is way up there on my list).
I could care less if Sony released an update or not, I'm still able to get a damn fine ICS experience with the aokp rom.

Oh god, not this again.
The reason that the Xperia Play is not getting ICS is not because its hardware!!!!
READ THE FOLLOWING LINES PLEASE!
The reason because the Xperia Play won't get ICS goes like this:
1- Sony launches the Xperia Play.
2- Some months later, some developers like Rockstar Games and EA make some outsanding games compatible with the Xperia Play (GTAIII, Dead Space...) wich helps a lot on the sales of this smartphone.
3- Sony, wich plans to update the Xperia Play to ICS like the other Xperias from 2011, launches a beta of ICS for the Xperia Play in order to allow people to test how their apps and games run on the new version of Android.
4- The beta works great on the phone, but some games like GTA III and other important titles don't run well. These games need to be updated to work correctly on the ICS for the Xperia Play.
5- Rockstar, EA and others refuse to update their games for the Xperia Play.
6- Sony, with no option, doesn't want to lose the most important titles of the Xperia Play and decides to not update the device.
END.
I am a little upset that the xperia E comes with official Android 4.1 JB having less specs then the xperia play and they get jellybean! not ICS straight to jellybean! both specs are identical but the xperia E has a lower Gpu and internal memory AND STILL! I understand that sony said that they wanted to leave this phone as a gaming phone but at least make it a optional update on your own risk or something

Wouldn't be the first time a weaker phone got a newer FW than Xperia Play... we've already established that the reason Xperia Play didn't get ICS/JB was because it would throw the software compatibility way off.
If you want a good example of how bad it would've been, just look at all Evo V owners who are in an absolute fury because the vast majority of 3D games were made to operate under 2.3. The way I see it, Sony did the smart thing by opting for a more stable ecosystem.
The thing is that a lot of app developers are abandoning gb, and making apps for 4.0+, even Google them self, example, chrome browser a great browser but not for gb.
I'd even settle for a decent official ics from Sony, I mean the developers here are doing a better job than them

I am going to admit many people know more about the inner workings of hardware. But I am sure that with the xperia e's 320x240 resolution also helps in benchmarks as it's not having to push as much in terms of resolution. Although I know that is only one aspect of a bigger picture.

Okay! newest version of Android 4.4 has been released and its the most feature packed Android yet! as always
things! we as X8 user need to NOTE is the latest iteration of the Android has been super optimized
and able to run on a phone with lesser Resources that than JellyBean has to require, possible on a phone
with minimum RAM of 512MB, but we X8 user magically able to run Jellybean unofficially in form of CM10 created by our legends
that requires more resources than current KitKat. If we look at the X8's resources and side by side comparison
between Jellybean and KitKat, Theoretically we able to run KitKat much faster, smoother, responsive in our X8.
So if all the previous great and experienced developer hands on X8 again could we enjoy KitKat inside this
tiny device and extends its Development Community life?
or
JellyBean is the last for X8
it's not possible becasue Xperia X8 is too old and too weak for android 4.4 KitKat and there is someone to be finished built rom and kernel in my opinion.
Ya I agree x8 is too old, but in my opinion if we have the great past developer's and vibrant community again, we eventually could get it since logically 4.4 is very lightweight compared to current jelly bean, even galaxy nexus don't get Android 4.4 but anything possible in development community

1st of all an experienced developer who can work on the rom like nAa!
2nd - a kernel (something like the performance of alfs kernel) from good sources.
3rd -many people have ditched their x8. i still have it. so the remaining people should become testers.
I have played with kitkat and it is just awesome!!!

Yes we have great developers but, can not work as a team that was able to work together.
Sorry to say, but now we have great and RETIRED developers. All developers who made significant things in the x8 section now not working or working with newer phones. nAa and dx stopped everything, alfs looks like also inactive, daveee10 busy with his real work (and he have a galaxy s3, so probably he will not return).
Only few member try to make something new (for example afi1982 try to build 4.2, but not 4.4), and few modders active now...

Also which kernel are you using it with? and how much free ram are you getting? I hated 4.2.1 keyboard because it always showed a pop up when adding words. I hope 4.2.2 doesnt have that problem.
I'd like to help with testing working builds

Afi bro! You doing really great job now even 10.1 is possible for Xperia x8, my point is if a Jellybean able to run on X8 why not the super optimised KitKat which requires lesser RAM than Jellybean. I know really need lot's of hard coding, and kernel modifications. But it's that KitKat running in a newer Linux kernel?
