i dont get the last part with the days and stuff,
but rooting does not make you lose data,
unless you did something wrong,
to be safe and 100% sure just in case you mess up,
backup all system and user data with titanium backup
Use the Search button next time
We have awesome guides about all these stuff

no,
unrooting does not delete data,
it just removes the SU app and SU privileges,
samsung drivers since nov 2011 are fine since the updates are just to support new phones

Hello XDA community, I have a root problem on my device. Im using Super_ONE_Click to root my Vibrant on 2.2 Froyo UVKA6 with Kernel V. 2.6.32.9
The problem is that somehow the root access is declining attempts from applications like Root Tools, Titanium BackUP, Root Explorer ect.... When i root the phone it did installed the Super User (SU) apk to the phone but is not giving me permissions to root access.
What it went wrong when it was ok before and now it dont. How can i root my device using a different method then SOC?
Is there anything I can do?
I dont want to start all over again installing soft and games as it took me lot of time to get the SD files for the games I have.
Any advise to root before going to ODIN as a last option?
Thanks guys

Hi Everybody,
I've tried rooting my Galaxy s2 using s2 root v1.2.
Followed everything very carefully, ran odin, installed insecure kernel. But when I launched s2 root it came up with an error message 'this is only for galaxy s2 phones'. Then i noticed in my computer instead of the phone icon theres only 2 drives there?. So Ive ran odin again and reinstalled the official kernel and the same things happening and now kies wont recognise my phone?
Someone please help....
Ok figured it out, switched usb debugging off, now the phone icon is back and kies works. But can anyone help as to why s2 root wont detect my phone??
Why would you use s2 root ? All you need to do to get root is flash cfkernel.
I want to put back the original kernel once i am rooted, looking at that chainfire thread, I don't know if it will work. BTW I have BVKG3.
I think you are confused because you don't need root to flash kernel/rom ect. Just use ODIN to flash.
OK rooted now using chainfires method. Going to try putting official kernel back on via odin, hope it stays rooted
It will, you will lose other nice things like clockworkmod recovery and nandroid backups but root will stick.

I want to root my S4, and thankfully it's still on MDL. I've been reading that the MF3 update has been forced upon some. My question is, what would be the best way to root without the update being forced upon me at reboot?
I plan on using the CASUAL root tool, which says that as well as root, it installs TWRP onto the device. I'm assuming that TWRP for our device has the loki patcher built in? That's the main thing that Confuses me is when that necessary to be used.

Turn off mobile date and wifi to avoid the update. Run CASUAL. Once you have run, install titanium backup. There is an apk you can freeze to block the update. Search the forums for which to freeze.
Or preferably flash a custom ROM. They remove the updater stuff : )
Edit: Freeze these
If you want to avoid the update, you should root your phone and freeze the following three apps using titanium backup or some similar app.
1. AT&T Software update Vxx_x_xxxx_x_x
2. FWUpgrade x.x.x
3. LocalFOTA vx_xxxx_x_x
As per: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301762
Ok so my SGH-I337 S4 is rooted using Motochopper and is still stock ROM, just rooted. I did it so I could make Google Wallet work on AT&T, which was successful. Now AT&T has an OTA update that I want. So I will have to unroot. I already have the stock ROM download that I can flash via Odin to unroot. But what will happen to the apps I have installed that require root, like Titanium Backup, ROM manager, etc. Will they automatically be removed or just stop working? Also, has anyone had any experience with the Universal Unroot app? That would sure be easier. But my main question remains: what does Unrooting do to apps that are installed that require root privileges?

When you user Odin you'll have to do a factory reset or you'll get into a boot loop. So by by apps. Your tibu backup file will still be there, but just in case copy it to your pc before hand. The apps that require root will not work until you re-root.
Hi highly recommend you don't get the ota. Even though it's root able it's very dangerous to do so.
What I will say, if you want the update is to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43963746 and you will have the benefit of the OTA and not lose the root and custom recovery, and all the app will work! You will not upgrade the bootloader. Once you updated the bootloader is not coming back!

I don't understand why you get a boot loop. I once soft bricked a phone and used Odin to flash a md5.tar of a stock ROM. The phone rebooted and I saw my wallpaper and all my apps and data intact. I have seen threads on Unrooting that describe using Odin that way. They all said that doing a factory reset afterword is if you want to delete all your apps and data like if you sell your phone or just want it as it was out of the box

thats interesting. were you on stock when you soft bricked it?
many, many...many users commonly have to wipe data/factory reset after flashing stock via odin. sometimes they can get away with just a cache wipe. not often, though.
I had used (can't remember his name) Galaxy S3 Toolkit to root the phone. Interestingly, Root Checker said I was rooted, but Titanium Backup wouldn't install... It said I needed root access... Hmmm.... Later when I went to unroot using the same S3 Toolkit, I did something wrong. The phone would boot but stick at tiny little letters in the upper left of the screen that I *think* said recover. I messaged the developer of the Toolkit and he sent me a link to download the original AT&T stock ROM. He told me how to use Odin and check the PDA box. I did it and it fixed my phone.

thats why i asked if you were still on stock when you used odin. most users are not, which is ultimately what requires them to factory reset in recovery.
I wonder if universal unroot is trustworthy
Sent from my SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4
All that would happen to your rooted apps is they wouldn't have root privileges anymore, which means they ultimately won't work as expected. I would recommend uninstalling them before you update. You may also be able to do a full unroot via SuperSU or one of the other superuser apps.
NOTE: Your phone may not update even after unrooting. You may have to do a factory reset first. I don't know why, I'm not a developer. I'm just speaking out of my own experience from the past.
need help
ok guys i have a international version of g2 d802 32gb model.... i have just rooted it. i have no custom rom or recovery installed. now i want to return fully back to stock(no root).. In LG G2 Stock Firmware (Go Back to Stock) thread i have seen people reporting about stuck at 49% only way to solve that is installing stock lg g2 custom rom or stock kernel through custom recovery... so should i install twrp recovery then try to restore my lg g2... if anything bad happens then i can flash the rom through recovery and then try restoring it..
Why do you want to unroot? Unrooting wont change anything functionality wise that you would notice if you dont use root apps.
Rooting imo is a good thing even if you dont use root apps. I.e. Say you install a malicious file and it tries to alter a system app, being rooted acts as a alarm informing you something is trying to do something that requires sudo privileges

AFAIK there's still a tripwire functionality that registers if it's been rooted or not. For Samsung S2 there was a tool to reset the counter, but something similar for LG G2 doesn't exist. If they check it is a different matter, though.
I sent in my phone for a gpu problem (they replaced the entire chip set) by just unrooting within supersu. And of course undoing any changes made to system files. Remember to delete other traces of root apps in the SD storage too
I don't know if there is a root checker on every device, but if there is one on the d802 they certainly didn't check before repairs

so unrooting wont untrip my root checker ? it will still say rooted in download mode ?
i dont want to return my phone for warranty purposes but for future updates i want to unroot my g2 as i cant take ota updates when rooted
As far as the root checker...
I can only confirm this works on VZW LG G2 but if you take the attached file and extract the file contained into the "SD card" main folder and restart it should reset the root checker.

Where did you get this info from? Link please.
From what I've read in this thread G2 doesn't have tripwire and you can unroot it.
so what should i do ahead?
so for the near future when i want to return back to stock should i install custom recovery and then try to restore or restoring without installling custom recovery is safe ?
how ?

All this is a file called RTC_security with "forel.lee" in it. I can confirm it worked on my Verizon G2.

When I rooted my LG, the root installer specified that it was no going back, yada yada, and it said that there was a tripwire functionality. It might have been the case that the text was generic, but it didn't look that way to me.
