Can I hide my Root status from an app permanently?

I need help guys. I'm currently rooted running ParinoiAndroid 3.00 and Franco Kernel #82. I'm trying to download the Good for Enterprise App from the Play Store and install for my work email, but the app won't install becasue of my Root status. Is there a way to hide the root status from this app at all times. I really don't want to unroot my phone.

Go to SuperSU -> Settings.
There in Access, give default access as Deny
Then set up the whole Good for Enterprise thing
Then once the setup is done, set default access as Prompt again.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I gave it a try and it didn't work.
Any other ideas????

I do not think unrooting 4.2.2 is wise. I heard 4.2.1 rooting techniques do not work for 4.2.2.

Umm... nothing I can think of right now... If you have a spare device you can unroot that, install it on that device, setup your phone, root it, copy its data from /data/data and then restore it in your Nexus 4 Long shot.

Ok, that's not good. I guess I will need to do more research on unrooting 4.2.2.
And no this is my only device. I have a couple of old Iphones but that won't do me any good. Oh and if I was to unroot it and install the software, wouldn't the device be wiped when I re-root it and flash a custom ROM?

After re-rooting it, backup the data using Titanium. Then flash custom ROM and restore App + data.

I'm not sure if you would know this answer or not, but in an app like Good Enterprise does it normally just search for root status upon initial install or does it look for the root status periodically.
Also, I had plans to unroot using the SuperSU "Full unroot" option or even the Nexus 4 tool kit. Are either one of these methods the unroot techniques you were referring too? I really don't want to brick my device if its unwise to unroot.

I would have tried to check it myself first before suggesting you the solution (I had even downloaded the app) but turns out setting up Good Enterprise requires more than just downloading and installing it. I am not sure if it checks the root status periodically but in this case looks like the only option we have is to hope that it checks only during initiation. However, if the app is any good, I think it will check root status periodically to maintain security (because a lot of app information is compromised on a rooted phone)
Also, I do not think you will brick your phone if u attempt to root 4.2.2. Simply rebooting it in fastboot mode will give you option to revert to stock even in the worst situations. Still, cannot rule out the risk.
Anyway, a simple Google Search revealed this which could be a potential solution

Un rooting is quite simple , nothing to worry about!
By the way, Good permissions can be set by your administrator. They have the option to allow root, to check every time, Or to check once. It all depends on how your company configures it.

Well, I was able to use nexus 4 toolkit to uproot and relock the boot loader. The app install fine after that and is working properly.
Thanks for the replies. For some reason I was thinking I would have to return the phone back to stock to uproot it, I'm glad I was able to keep my custom ROM and kernel. 1 more question, was re-locking the boot loader necessary or could I have kept it unlocked?

voodoo ota root keeper has a temporary unroot option, grab it from the playstore , much easier than unrooting your phone, also root survives an ota from google. You probably could have left the bootloader unlocked.

An easy way to hide root is renaming the superuser app/apps in the below location.
/system/app
This method did the charm for me for few apps. But the disadvantage is, it will hide root for all apps..

[Q] Any way to check how my VS980 was rooted?

I got my G2 used and didn't even realize until a few days in that I was already using CleanROM and had root. Been using it like that all along and only just tonight did I stumble across some old threads about how initially there was a root method that involved some weird Chinese exe file that people eventually feared might have installed spyware and decided not to use anymore. I just assumed all along that the previous owner had used the Loki method as that was the only one I had ever heard about. I realize I could just follow a guide to fully reset my phone, but I would hate to go through all of that for nothing if my phone is safe. Plus I seem to be one of the people who can't seem to get debug mode/adb to initialize on a Verizon G2 when plugged in so I'm not even sure how I would go about using the LG flasher a tot file to fully reset my device.
So far all I tried was installing Titanium backup and making sure I didn't see any frozen Chinese language root explorer app that apparently gets installed on your phone when using that old root method and has to be frozen afterwards.
Is there any thing I can specifically look for on my phone that would hint at which root method was used?

yep there is a way. boot into download mode and here you will see phone status unrooted or rooted..

There is no way to see what method you are using, but as far as i know, you have loki method of rooting. Cause you have another ROM, and only loki patches boot, so you can have TWRP and all that stuff. Why do you want to reset the phones root? If it is working, don't use LG tools, cause i saw some people (but only on D802) who complained that they got stucked in bootloop after using LG tools.

For peace of mind, I would backup what u need to a computer, flash stock (handy to know how to anyways) and re-root. Least then u know for sure. Just my 2¢

Today I had to restart my phone because it dropped data connection, the moment I restarted it said my phone was being updated and I should wait, it wasted my time and it shoved 10o update down my throat.

Pull down the notification bar and tap and hold on the notification. App info will pop up and tap it and scroll all the way to the bottom and uncheck show notification.

I did that when I first got the notification. Notification disappeared. 2 days later I restarted my phone for the first time in over a week, and bam, it installed without any notification at all. So disabling notification won't stop it from installing, it seems..

I know this doesn't directly help your situation since you're not rooted but this should help someone who is.
I had to freeze "Software Update 2.3.0.5" using titanium backup for it to stop. Not sure of a way to do it without root or without the pro version of titanium.

If you have the ota, you could use root explorer or browser to go into the Cache folder and delete it(ota) then try to install it will fail or do nothing then hit cancel

How can I downgrade?
I don't mind paying for titanium to freeze the app. This is nonsense, enjoyment just update by itself, lucky I didn't install recovery.

What version of the G2 do you have? I'm on Sprint and I don't have "Software Update", I have "Update Device 4.5.1.10" which I just froze.
Does anyone know if I install the update can I still flash TWRP to my device? I'm not sure if I should install TWRP now and use the flashable ota zip or install it after I update it.

I'm asking the same question OP is asking, is there a way to disable the update on non-rooted phones? And from experience with several other Android phones... I know it's pretty much impossible to downgrade unless you start flashing, but I'm gonna ask anyways. Is there a way to downgrade the upgrade that was forced down OP's throat and my own throat? For me it actually updated in my sleep, I woke up and it said my phone was updated. OP and I are on AT&T's D800 variant.

On Verizon it is called MobileUpdateClient.apk. I changed the file extension to .old and then moved it to a new folder called old so I would know what I had changed.

Looks like this worked for me also of my Verizon phone. It seems to have also remove the manual check option in the About phone section in settings.

Well, it would still help to avoid further OTA's from being applied if we are rooted and do not use custom rom, there is always a risk of getting OTA and messing everything up, therefore if freezing above app worked for you, it should be all we need. Is Software Update the actual app which checks for version and receives pushes from AT&T when a new OTA is available, or if there are other apps/modules that does this. The problem is, if it is incorporated into android system like some of the other stuff AT&T incorporated, it would be impossible to completely eliminate it without running a custom rom.

Did you totally remove the apk, or rename it? Also, if removed, will it cause other problems?
I only ask cause i had a g2 that was pushed an ota and bricked my g2. Had to get a new one, now trying ti disable the ota's from doing that again..
Then when kitkat is released, am i not able to update it, then root again?

I have Lg G2 (Att) & hours b4 I have reflash'd back 2 stock and applied root about an hour later i got OTA so I click'd 2 recieve OTA it came back sayin Cant download OTA on rooted device if that helps and thatt was almost 24\hrs ago n still runnin smoothly but file was only like 16MB
So will a bigger OTA push current root'd stock rom out n brick my fone¿

you have to flash the old version by using LG Flash Tool, like I did.

So, I have a question for you guys. I got my phone yesterday and I'm on 10o. I installed the CWM recovery for 10o via Flashify, and now I'm concerned about OTAs - I disabled it via the Hidden Menu, but if there's an OTA to update the phone to 4.3 or 4.4, I'd like to receive it and not worry about bricking my phone.
I don't plan on doing a lot of custom ROM flashing, I really just wanted to root and install Xposed. Do I need to flash a stock ROM and go back to stock recovery, so I don't have to worry about OTAs? Or should I be good with CWM and the stock ROM that I rooted?

Umm. No. I'm not quite sure on that point, but I think you can install a custom recovery without being rooted. An app like flashify can backup your stock recovery but requires root.

If you decide you want to root and put a custom recovery on it there are two things to consider.
1. NEVER accept an OTA update. Not even if it promises you two tickets to the land of the unicorns. Don't!
2. Back up everything. And your EFS partition. And save it. Not on your device. Heck, make 5 copies and put one copy on an USB-dongle, another on your computer, the third under your bed, the fourth in your wallet and make a bank account in Switzerland for the fifth. The EFS partition contains crucial informations about your device. If you by accident delete it when flashing a custom rom, you turned your phone into a 5.2 inch tablet. And there's no way of getting it back. You might never need it, but if you do, you will thank yourself for having made that backup!

But u can get app for back up those things then copy back up folder to ur pc after returning to stock then download same app then put the backup folder to ur sdcard the go to app restore them

Can't you just delete the SU.apk?
"Rooting" is just gaining administrator login rights. On Linux based OSes, the username "root" = admin.
Root is gained by issueing the command "su" for superuser. The process of rooting is putting the su.apk file in the system directory.
Should be easy to undo.

Where can I go to download the .apk file? I'm looking for a root thread (I do not want a new ROM right now) but cannot find any.

Don't think it works that way. The su.apk is just an interface. Su is pushed into /system/xbin (which is not an apk file), not to mention busy box gets installed. I could be wrong and if so please tell me, however I think its more complicated than just deleting the apk file to unroot.

Yesterday i downloaded SuperSU to my phone, and i delete it (i dont know why ) and after i delete it (from the Settings, not simple Uninstall)
i did Restart to my phone, and i saw that my SuperUser gone, but i still have ROOT access, all of my apps that need Rooted device worked.
After while, i read the discription and i saw that it should be like this, and that SuperSU switch SuperUser, so i downloaded it again.
So lets go to the point:
If i have stock ROM and stock Recovery, i can do Full Unroot from the SuperSU Settings? as i said, all completely stock, only ROOTED device, LG G2 D802.
I can do it without any problems? for sure?

I did with the same set-up as you and it worked fine. I lost my root access and tested with skygo which is very particular about not working with root and I could stream again using this.
I have supersSU pro which may make a difference.

I dont know so much about it, my friend did to my phone the ROOT, i need to make sure that everything will be fine without any problems.

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve? I was referring to having a stock rom and recovery installed before rooting the device to perform some tweeks then unrooting it again. The reason that I unrooted again was so that I could use skygo which requires an un-rooted device. I have moved onto the G3 now but, as far as I can remember, the only way to return to a stock recovery is to return your device to completely stock by flashing a kdz. If you tell me exactly what you are trying to achieve I may be able to be of more help.

You answered my question I was trying to flash stock recover.img because I unrooted it via supersu but it kept twrp obviously. So I'll just flash the whole thing.

My phone still says root in download mode and cannot run LG software update. I have stock ROM and recovery. Others say they have the same problem but no replies. Can anyone help?

I'm curious too. What I did was used Super User and did that "Clean Unroot" method and after I pressed it, it cleared and the app was gone. But, I had a back up of my stock before doing this and deleted all other roms and downloaded all my pics and wallpapers to my computer. But I don't know if I'm unrooted. How would I check that? I can still go to the play store and install Superuser, is that normal or shouldn't it not install?
There's another method which involves installing the LG flash tool, and a Stock factory firmware. Should I do that method or am I fine with the Superuser?
