Hi,
My power button was working perfectly however, my friend tried to install some (hacked) google wallet app and he had to install and change some buildprop file (i dont know if he did). However, after this my power button started playingup.
When I press it, it completes the action as if i had held it down and it brings up the power menu. Sometimes it locks the phone but its no where near what it was like before.
I have completely factory reset my phone (and now have rooted it again) and its still playing up (although its a bit better now)
does anyone have an idea so as to what has caused this problem?
thank you in advance
Just send it to samsung center..

does it have to be alcohol or can you use something else?
It has to be isopropyl alcohol, preferably 99% no less then 91%. No guarantee that this will fix it but my power button recently "broke" it would still click but it wouldn't work or it would act like it was stuck pressed in and cleaning the power button with alcohol and a q tip worked.
Watch this video very carefully so you do not break or damage anything, it is intimidating but is very easy with patience, I think those with semi functional power buttons are just dirty after years of use and the alcohol cleans it restoring functionality.

So this morning I'm laying in bed and hit snooze on my phone not wanting to go to work...so I doze off and wake up a couple minutes later to my wonderful dog chomping on my phone. I have teeth marks on the bottom, but the best part is, she took a nice deep bite into the power button, so I no longer have any function with it.
Now I can't power off, boot into recovery, anything. GG dog.

Well obviously your dog was trying to give you a message....
Yeah, I guess she was...
My phone is almost useless now...If I let the battery die by accident i'm screwed. Can't flash anything either.
I'm thinking maybe I can try and pop the button out and just use it like that

Is the switch itself broken? Or did the tooth just mess up the button?
I certainly would take it apart. Even if you end up with a hole in the front of the thing, as long as there's a working switch, you can poke it with a pen. If the switch itself is broken, it is easily replaced when the phone is in pieces.
The buttons pressed in so much it won't click..do u know of any how-to's on taking it apart?

Thanks man, I'm gonna pick up those torx screwdrivers this week. If the switch is actually broken, where can I get a replacement?

There's lots of places to get a replacement. Try finding an electronic components store LOCAL TO where you live (not rat shack -- they don't got squat). There should be LOTS, but they do tend to hide themselves well since they only cater to a very specific niche who typically know where to look.
Alternatively, some place like DIGIKEY (website) will have it.
Note: if the switch itself is screwed, don't worry too much about replacing it with the exact same switch. Just find something that fits and preferably has the same shape of contact pads. If you can't find one that has matching contact pads, then you may need to consider WIRES and GLUE.
You can download quickboot from the market to reboot to recovery if you have to, and from there you can restart it. Your best bet is probably to replace whatever is broken though.
either you download quickboot like the previous guy said or you just type "reboot" (after "su") to reboot.
for flashing its enough to only press "Home" during startup --> recovery (power button not needed)
if you phone dies by accident becuase you battery was too low:
remove the battery --> plug in your phone --> insert your battery ==> phone should reboot
i'm not 100% sure about the last thing. pls try it only if you're phone already died and not to test it out. perhaps somebody can confirm this method with a working powerbutton (just in case )
Hi,
i'm so sad about my HD2. I was gifted the phone and it was stock. After a day, of reading how to go Android, i moved on. Wonderful phone, i was so happy with it... even better with Android. Last weekend went camping, on an island, as you might expect i got there by boat. So cruising with the wind in my hair, feeling the waves... BAM, a wave spashes on the boat and gets me wet. I had the phone on a purse, one of those bags like women have but for guys.
I checked the phone, the purse was wet, but the phone was in somewhat waterproof lining and thought it was ok, maybe humidity. As i got to the place tried to turn the phone on, or wake it... it was as if i was pressing the on button in repeat, on, off, on, off (sleep, wake, sleep, wake). Took the battery of and reinserted, new boot (android boots as sonn as you connect battery) buttons flashing, i believe de flash turn on... i took it off again and tought maybe some humidity or water, now i was getting worried, got inside... let it rest a while.
Tried the day after, boot, but the buttons were wierd. Took battery let it rest, dried, hairdryer, left it on top of router, where is warm for almost 2 days.
Now i'm stuck at magldr. I have no volume down to enter bootloader, manage with volume up inside magldr but the other buttons are all fu**ed up. Sometimes they flash, sometimes brighter. At a few moments ago i was able to boot to Android and navigate with touchscreen as always, perfect, but no hard keys. No way to do back, home, end, menu...nothing!! I press and strange things happen, voice dialer, volume up, etc... Now i flashed CWM again and can't boot to Android anymore...i know, stupid!!
Can anyone advice to what can this be or if there's some solution?
I was thinking if i could flash stock rom, wm6.5, take it to warranty, because i guess it's on it still, and tell them it stopped working. But i can get to bootloader to flash stock wm.
Or get it fixed by my own cost. Thing is, HTC have a crappy assistance here (Portugal) and it's way too expensive.
Or try to disassemble the phone just to get to the buttons to see what happened, if indeed are just the damn buttons. Maybe try a clean, one of those electronics sprays for electric contacts or something.
Sorry for the long post... i'm getting desperate. I got so attached to HD2, such a great phone. Don't wan't it to become an expensive paper weight.
Thanks in advance guys.
not sure if it will work but put stock rom on sd renaming it leoimg.nbh then press reset button, under battery cover. its how you flash HPSL
Hm, all you should did in this time is to remove battery, then dry it with hair dryer. Do not try to start phone now. Tray to dismantle phone and clean with alcohol (non drinkable one)
I tried do turn it on, everything worked with the touch screen. The problem is the hard keys.
@robbie: i don't have volume down, so no bootloader, no flashing stock rom...
@gaggins: i dried it with hairdryer, left it rest in warm place, on top of router. Still no volume down, and hard keys are faulty. I was trying not to open phone. Besides to get to the hard keys i have to dismantle the entire phone right? Can i bathe the phone in alcohol and let it dry?
It seems as if the power button is stuck. In magldr, i can navigate with volume up and have to keep windows key pressed and to select press also home key. If i select tetris the pieces are always rotating. No side movement, no bring down, nothing.. just constant rotate. The rotate key in tetris, in magldr is the end/power button right?
Can i flash a rom with magldr "USB Flash" ??

not without bottom left key to select.
There may still be water in it after a few days, someone wrote put it in a ziplock bag of rice (sieve rice first and remove batt) for a day.
There may be water damage stickers inside which if red might invalidate warranty, apparently these can be bought online.
Alcohol may be final solution.
Good luck
The stickers are as white as snow. The phone didn't got actually wet, or soaked or fell in water.
Maybe try with rice, or soak the bottom part were the keys are in distilled water, then in alcohol and then the rice.
i wouldn't use distilled water, even though no deposits, you could still cause corrosion on pcb. you said earlier about electronics sprays, it might be worth research while hd2 is in rice
Hey all,
So the other night at the pub, a friend spilled their water on the table, and my nexus 4 was in the path. It was quickly removed and pulled out of its case which seemed to have protected it and was working just fine. The next morning however, and the past few days, it's been acting perfectly fine except for it acting like the volume down button is being held down. The worst part is I can't get it to boot into regular mode, only safe mode because it thinks the button is being held down...
Could this have been the water? I tried a couple days in rice with no change. Any ideas for what I should try next? It makes me incredibly frustrated to think a perfectly good phone would go to waste just because the volume button is acting wonky (and I've tried mashing on it and making sure it's not stuck in or anything).
Thanks!

Cool, I'll give that a shot...too bad my tool set only goes down to a T6! Gotta get a T5 and some proper rubbing alcohol. Fingers crossed!
So, no luck trying to clean it with alcohol. The button is still acting as if it is being held down.
...what do I do with the phone now?
Hi, I just bought a new phone, yes, i guess you know what it is.
G900H (damn...) I wanted F version.
Well, Everything worked nicely, then I tried water, apps, anything, the phone worked.
BUT something happened, power button didnt work, sometimes it did sometimes it didnt... Then I restarted, a LOT, pulling battery etc, It booted itselft btw. Then I deleted apps, etc. Somehow, after 30+ restarts, it worked! phone worked normally, i was like, WTH.
then after 2 or 3 months, now...
Today I washed the phone, everything closed, it looks like after that, the phone's power button doesnt WORK... (every other button worked fine, all operations up to date. nothing bad)
I went to recovery.. power button didnt work. volume, home did work.
I asked myself, did I screw up the power button? then should I wait for the phone to dry out? WTH. This thing worked for so many times, NOW it doesnt...wat do i do..
DOWNLOAD MODE
once in download mode, volume + to go volume - to restart phone.
I couldnt CLICK any option.WTH
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MY PHONEEEE
yes, warranty is void
anyone happened the same?

WTH indeed. Should you wait for the phone to dry out? Seriously? Electricity and water.
You shouldn't be washing a phone. Carefully wipe it with a damp cloth perhaps. And yes wait for it to dry. If you are lucky, it will be okay after it dries, although it sounds like you have a physically damaged button.
You could try reverting to 100% stock to rule out software issues. The only proper fix for physical damage is to replace the power button. The part is dirt cheap, but the labour to disasemble yourphone and install it could be quite expensive.
A possible workaround would be an app that remaps the button elsewhere. That won't work to power on the device, but may help for routine operation once it's already on. Should your power button completely fail, you can use an USB JTAG adapter to turn your phone on.

Hi bud,
thanks for replying,
I got so scared, but it looks like now everything works, I put the phone to charging, the button looks perfect, y clicks and everything.. i dont see how it is damaged T.T
Maybe water entered somewhere? Damn u samsung, water proof THaT.
After charging a bit, I was stuck in recovey, I tried pressing power button . IT Worked! then it didnt, I had a few self reboots but everything is fine now.
So I guess I had to dry it. How? I cant know, the phone seems dry to me. Maybe theres a small hole where water could enter in power button?
let me see your opinions.

Looks perfect, clicks and everything. But doesn't work reliably. And you can't imagine how it could be damaged? I would have thought the erratic operation to be a clue.

Show us where Samsung ever wrote that the phone is waterproof. It's water resistant, which means that it will probably save you from permanent damage if it gets accidentally wet. A splash, rain, a one time drop into shallow water. But tempting fate by routinely exposing it to water; washing it or taking it along when snorkeling would be imprudent.
It's unclear from your last post if the button is now working properly or not. If it is, great. If not, you will find some suggestions in my previous post. Good luck.

About an hour before writing this, I moved a cable off my desk which was also under my Force, and off goes the force back first onto the floor. Seems perfectly fine, using it just like normal, but after doing some things in the play store I decided to lock the phone with the power button, I pressed it. Aaaaand nothing.
Volume keys worked fine, everything else worked fine..why not the power button? Who knows. I tried restarting through adb hoping that was the issue and not the drop, didn't fix anything. So...I had possibly the dumbest solution possible. Lets replicate the drop and see what happens. Power button starts to work, but barely, you have to really press it hard to get it to work. Thought lets do it again. Now it's back to not working at all.
At this point I'm scared of dropping my phone any more because I don't want to break the entire thing, but I'm starting to get hopeless. One of the drops I tried to replicate it, it landed face first and cracked my screen protector. So I'm like screw it.
I cover the back camera of the phone with like 4 sheets of tissue and put it inside a PLESON TPU case, to cover the camera, and I just outright drop the thing from like 5 feet high, back first. Now the power button works perfectly again (What the ****?) All that was lost was a good screen protector...?
TL;DR don't drop your phone back first, your power button might become misaligned with...god knows what.
Thanks for the tip... and... Congrats

That's the craziest thing I have ever heard.... Something doesn't act right after accidently dropping the phone, so let's drop the phone many times on purpose and drop it from 5 feet..... Really???
This does remind me of a computer I was repairing ages ago. I got frustrated with trying to get data off of a clicking hard drive so I threw it on the cement floor. Worked perfectly after that. I think the head assembly was stuck or something lol.

You'd be surprised how much in the automotive industry is fixed by hitting something with a wrench and jiggling stuff. Everything mechanical likes to get stuck at some point or another
