Big problem with N7... what to do? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Nexus 7 was working fine up until yesterday. I hooked it up to my iMac at work and copied the latest version of the rom I use, flashed and everything seemed good. I noticed that last night the N7 didn't charge and the battery was really low, so I plugged it into my charger.
--Nothing--
Hooked it up to my computer
--Nothing--
Strange thing is, if I shut it down and leave it off, it detects the charger being plugged in and appears to be charging. Also, my OTG cable seems to be working fine. I hooked up my Xbox 360 wireless adapter and was able to pair and use it with my computer. I've tried wiping and re-flashing, restoring from backup, all results are the same.
Can someone give me some insight?

It seems the battery is really low. Try to use the stock charger since it has higher current to charge

Doesn't matter what charger I'm using. If android is RUNNING, it will not charge not do any USB operations (except OTG) I can't read it on the computer, charge it off the computer, charge it off any USB charger including the stock one, adb to it, fastboot to it. But if I shut it down, it will charge when it's completely turned off.

It's charging same thing happened to me when I turned it on for the first time. After putting it on for some time remove it and after some time it turned on with full charge..
In my case i Don't know why it didn't turned on just after the charging..

[Q] DroidX will only sustain charge level, but not charge up!

I am trying to figure out why my DroidX will not charge fully all of the sudden. I plugged it in yesterday to a wall charger for about 2 hours when the battery was at 50%, can back after 2hrs, and it was still at 50% even though it showed the charging icon the whole time. I rebooted it, and plggeed it into my computer's USB port, and set the USB option to "Charge only". Came back this morning, after it sat there for 6 hours and same thing - it is just maintaining the current battery level, but not charging it higher.
I have only owned it for a week, and the only change between now and when it was charging properly was that I installed a wireless tethering app, however, that runs on demand, and it has not been open or running. WiFi and GPS are also completely turned off.
Anyone else experienced this? I assume unless I keep it plugged in 24/7 now, it will eventually die all the way down!!
p.s. - I also tried letting it charge while it was completely powered off, but same thing. Shows that it is charging but just maintains current level.

this is not normal ,while in the wall charger it should charge all the way and the same on usb but just slower ,if this problem persist i would bring it to VZW and get a knew batt or phone or both since you have only had it a week
It may not be the phone or the battery. It's probably a faulty DC adapter which is not delivering the proper amperage. I just had this problem with my Slingbox. It would light up but the lights looked dim and I couldn't connect to it. A new adapter fixed it.
(Edit) I just reread your post and noticed you are charging it on your PC's USB port. Try the wall charger or another PC. Some PCs don't put out enough juice to charge.

This is somewhat true. The phone should charge with less power regardless of the source. You notice this most on say a USB hard drive and this is why you have y cables sometimes on the drives that take more power. Does the computer you happen to be charging it on happen to be a Laptop?
FYI - I charge from a desktop PC that has a 1000W corsair powersupply and hig end motherboard.
With that asie though, I was able to get the charging back - works fine after I did a hard reset. Most everything was backed up via Google, so all I had to do was rearrange my icons on home screen and change a few android settings.
I still have all the same apps, so I do not know what caused it. Whatever, it is fine now, but if it happens again I will take it in - I do not want to have to hard reset every few weeks. (I have the $6 a month full protection plan, even if I lose it, it gets replaced)

Anyone having this problem?

I have a bone stock phone that is not rooted. It started about a week ago. I turn off my phone at night and charge it. Now when I turn off my phone and plug in the wall charger it turns the phone back on. Now no matter what when I charge the phone it turns on. I have tried to turn it off with the phone whit the charger in and with it out. Now it seems the battery doesn't last as long.
Thanks for any help and I tried to search but, it's not working.
Weird, when I charge my phone while its off all it shows is a battery that fills up as the battery charges. I would take it to sprint.

I've had this same "issue". Its most likely your charging cable. For some reason if you only use a cable that charges your phone but can't do data it will refuse to stay off while charging.
For instance if you were to use a wall charger that was a micro-usb but not a data cable, like a LG Rumor charger, you won't be able to charge the phone when its off.
If you use the cable that came with your phone, it should work.
Hope this helps.
I'm using the charger and cable that came with the phone. You think maybe my cable is going or is bad
I tried 3 different chargers and I get the same thing. I went to the sprint store and I was told that sometime apps can cause problems like that so they told me to delete some apps that I installed about the time my phone started to have this problem. I tried that and I still have the problem. Thans for any help.

Charging Problem

I am having trouble charging my tablet. When the tablet is on, I am unable to charge with either the POGO or USB cable. I have also tried other wall chargers for cell phones. I was not using any roms, but had tried out the ktmantra kernel. I have since wiped my tablet using a factory 4.2.2 image from google and am still having the charging problem.
The only way I am able to charge is by charging with the tablet off. It also takes ages to charge (12+hours). Any ideas on what could be causing this? When I plug the POGO cable in, it says it is charging, but the battery percentage continues to drop.

I've readed some comment on another forum from an user that has the same proble, but for him it takes about 10h. Not sure what's wrong.
Are you not able to charge at all or just very slowly? I just noticed that my Nexus is charging very slowly with the Pogo cable I purchased. I may try going back to the usb cable to verify that the problem is with the cable and not with the tablet.
I was getting very slow charge rates with my usb charger. Around 12 hour charge times even when completely powered off. Anyway, my problem was with using a USB extension cable. Since I started plugging it directly into the wall I've been seeing charge times in the 5-6 hour range. My iPad never had an issue with it, but whatever! You might also try a different wall outlet.

I cant seem to solve this problem. I have tried using pogo and usb cables with two different chargers. I have also tried using different wall mounted phone chargers. I am not able to get any positive charge while the tablet is on. Using the battery monitor widget, I used to see a +1800 charge with the pogo, and a bit less with the usb cable. Now, the highest I get is -500.
I am only able to charge when the tablet is off, although very slowly. I had it charging all night, and it is now at 60%
When I plug the pogo cable in, the tablet will say it is charging, but it really isnt doing anything.
Any ideas?

Recalibrate battery? It's probably not going to work though. RMA the tablet as a last resort.

How can I recalibrate the battery?
Im in Europe until June, so Im assuming it wont be easy to RMA.
There is also a strange thing going on with the usb cable. My computer is unable to detect it as a storage device. When I plug the charger in, it will not show up as charging when the tablet is on. But, I am able to access the tablet via fastboot.
Where is that oficial pogo charger from samsgoogle? 4 month and counting... 2 Biggest companies în the world are unable to produce a simple cable... Hillarious

The N10 charger is a 2 amp charger and most phone chargers are 1 amp chargers. The N10 will charge slowly with a 1 amp charger if it is powered off, however it needs 2 amps to run the N10 and charge at the same time. Also I have found that not all USB cables are created equal, you may want to try another usb cable. I do not know anything about the pogo chargers. Hope this helps.

Nexus 7 wasn't charging while turned on.

Hey guys, I'm just looking for some insight here, I went to go plug my tablet in today and low and behold it wouldn't charge. I tried restarting it to no help, and did other troubleshooting options to make sure the power outlet and the original cord and adapter for the N7 were working properly. But then I noticed something weird, I put it into tarp recovery, plugged in the charger, rebooted recovery, and now its charging fine. It shows it charging in recovery AND when I boot into android all seems OK now, my question is what could have caused this and should I be concerned that this could start happening more often.

I don't know if this has anything to do with your situation, but I once used a 3rd party charger and 3rd party cable and it didn't show the charging graphic. The battery meter didn't change either, so after a coupld of hours, I unplugged it. It obviously had been charging since the battery indicator jumped up to a nearly full charge even though there were no indications it was charging. I always try to use the oem charger and cable even though I have found some chargers and cables that work as the stock one.

[Q] need help - razr m doesn't turn on - have searched google

Hello All,
I've had my razr m for a bit now, unlocked bootloader, and was running a CM 10.1 release on it for a while. I wiped it, and installed CM 10.2 nightly (10-2 build i think) - i knew i had to potential to blow up my phone. Was using the for almost 2 weeks, then I went back to my parents house and had my phone hooked up to i guess what was a cheap china wall wart with the microusb cable already built in. it got kind of hot then turned off, i unplugged my phone from the wall and put it on the floor in the garage. i tried to turn it on a couple hours later, no dice. now when i hook it up to anything (only using legit chargers and a PC that can be sacrificed) the led just stays on green, but the phone doesn't even turn on...
any advice?
tl;dr
i hooked my phone up to a cheap china wall wart after upgrading the rom and using the rom for 2 weeks.
now the phone doesn't turn on.
thanks
IMO it sounds like the battery or the charging circuit is fried... normally when the led stays on and green its telling you that the battery is completely dead and will remain that way until the charge level reaches 4-5% then it will boot to the charging screen... I would plug it into a Motorola wall charger for a half hour to an hour if after that time the phone still won't power on I'd pick get a factory cable/adaptor if that brought it to fast boot I'd flash stock and attempt to charge again...if it wouldn't charge i would find a battery somewhere...

i don't have a factory cable, but i do have an extra battery...
i am trying the battery now.... if that doesnt work any thing else?
i've made a factory cable, do i need to have the battery connect when using this cable?

I always have... I'm sure you don't need to have it connected as it bypasses it...

so i noticed that the LED only stays on green for like 5 to 10 minutes then turns off.
i have a second battery that when its connected the LED on the phone doesn't even turn on.
Hmmm.... can you get into fast boot mode with the factory cable you made?I'm guessing you found the walk through on how to make them did you make it correct solder points solid and getting +5v off pin 4...when plunged in (to charger) do you get a response from holding volume down and power....

nope, doesn't even seem to turn on.... i have a 100% new battery on the way, i am going to try to replace it, there is a chance the other battery i had hanging out was bad. I also am making a new factory cable using the microB plug from sparkFun. as a note i might have my friend make a new case for the phone for me that has a removable back.

so i got all the goodies in and hooked up the factory cable to my phone, no love from windows (ie doesn't detect the phone)
any ideas?
i know the cable is good, i have another phone that i have check it with.
i also have a board from my old xt907 (which i broke by throwing), and when i connect the factory cable to it, windows seems to think its there.
so the board for the phone that was hooked to the cheap china charger i think is 100% dead... when i hook it up to my machine with the factory cable nothing shows up.
the other board that i have has some qualcomm usb serial port show up....
any ideas on what i can try for the dead board to try to bring it to life? there is still some data i want of the damned thing....
