I recently unlocked my G1 to work with the ICE Network here in Costa Rica.
I was actually stuck for like 3 hours thinking about flashing and trying differen methods for the activation because for some reason it wouldn't catch the 2G Data Services (After I Followed alot of APN Settings etc)
When I was about to give up , I saw what seemed like a new icon (which ended up being that it was receiving data)
But I also noticed the R in the signal strenght icon, which I managed to figure out was Roaming.
This has not gone off since I got the phone, I got Donut 1.6 , I got the phone yesterday, It works perfectly, It receives calls, Dials, Msgs fine, everything like my old S.E phone, the internet is even a tad faster, but I'm kinda worried about the Roaming sign being there.
I'm not really worried for any International SMS like it was reported, because the crappy service here doesn't even have that, so It won't happen, and I don't even think Roaming exists here.
Any help to that?

You might want to post your APN settings so others can see if you need to change something.

Out of noobing around, I tried to play with the APN settings, but I went back to the old ones, now my Internet doesn't work..

Thats the only thing I saw. Saw a couple other places that had the same info. If that don't work then maybe someone else can help you thru.
This isn't an APN problem, it is a SIM problem.
Your provider has one set of numbers on your card, and another set of numbers that actually identify the network, and they don't match. Technically, from the phone's point of view, you *are* roaming, even if it is the same provider. From the provider's point of view, you *aren't* roaming.
Up until cupcake, we had that same problem here in Canada when using the "Fido" network (which is owned and operated by "Rogers"). The network identified itself as "Rogers", the SIM cards identify themselves as "Fido", the phone think's its roaming.
So; you don't need to worry about roaming charges when you are actually connected to the correct network.
BUT; You don't have an easy to read display to tell you when you are *really* roaming, nor can you make configurations that are based on whether you are or are not roaming.
Edit: You might be inclined to report it as a bug against AOSP. Even though it technically isn't a bug, the workaround for it needs to be input and that needs to originate as a bug report. http://source.android.com/report-bugs

Thank You very much.
I actually wasn't really worrying a whole lot, because Roaming doesn't exist here in Costa Rica. ( We are expected to barely get 3G this year, and there is a wait list for that for about 200,000 people ).. If your signal goes out, thats it, you got no signal .
thanks for the quick reply, another thing I wanted to ask. I've had the phone since like Sunday, and When I got it it was Version 1.01, So I got 1.5 Cup Cake, and eventually 1.6 Donut without even trying the phone at any point, I'm getting alot of force close msgs, for something regarding android action or something like that, I don't recall the exact msg, but I keep getting it , when going to the home from a application (any) or doing something rly fast, it blacks out, resets the desktop and shows up again, I read somewhere you had to do a factory reset (which bugs me because for some reason mY internet wasn't working until like 5 hours after I unlocked the phone).. Thanks

Yeah, a factory reset might help. Especially when you've done that many updates over a short period of time.
Write down your APN settings on a piece of paper and do the factory reset. It will STILL have 1.6, it will just clear the user data, which after just one day, won't be much anyways. Better to get it cleaned up now rather than wait until you have a big pile of configurations you don't want to lose.
Thanks, Did that, now my G1 Is much faster and won't crash.. Awesome
Forgive me if there's a post on this already but I could not find it any thread on this. If anyone can please help me find settings on my Nexus One getting Wataniya 3G network on my phone? I also can't connect to WiFi for some reason. The phone is unlocked and it was working great when I was back in the US. This is my first time out of USA and now i'm in Kuwait using Watiniya. you have to check what 3G standard Watiniya provides over its Cell Towers.. for instance, I am in China and China Mobile only provides TD-SCDMA... it is not supported by Nexus One (because quite honestly, it is a "China-specific" standard)... for China Apple with China Unicom brought out a iPhone 3G that supports TD-SCDMA - a special build only for China...
maybe you have the same sitution in Kuwait
Ok I finally got the 3G on. Nobody knows how to get it and I have to figure this **** out on my own. One thing that sucks is android market is limited. I cant get pandora app or syncmypix etc.... I wonder if I can do this through apk file? Anyways if anyone wants to know how to get 3G set up on WATANIYA NETWORK...I'm you're man. Hit me up. Peace.
You CAN get the apps as apk files, and that should work. You're probably not seeing them in Market because you're in Kuwait. As for the 3G problem you had...it was probably because the APN wasn't set.

I figured that was the problem. I did get the pandora apk file amongst other apps for my fiance. Things are ok. One thing though, I just refilled my Wataniya sim and I hardly used it but my credits are gone! I think they charge u using 3G network! Where is Tmobile when u need them?
I just got my DHD yesterday and I'm having a problem getting a GSM data connection. Where I live only Edge is available and when I turn on the mobile networks it won't make a data connection. Before I got this phone I had a HD2 that I was running Android on and I noticed only about half of the builds would have a working Edge data connection, if I knew what the difference was maybe I would know better what to do here. Any suggestions?

I found the answer, all I needed to do was make a new APN and point it to my carrier's URL. In Thailand for AIS it was www.ais.co.th if anyone else is having a similar problem.
maybe the settings not right form your provider. was running hd2 before as well but on wm. i just put the sim in my dhd and it asked me to configure everything automaticly. clicked yes and everything works, even mms works without any manual config. was pretty hard on my hd2 to get it to work.
Hi
I was wondering if i can find help here as all other sources failed
I will try to describe problem as detailed as possible but I'm newb when it comes to android so please be understanding
I'm Samsung Galaxy S4 user, just stock model I9505 running Android 4.4.2.
Using WiFi phone is completely fine but when it comes to mobile data there comes the problem..
I can use internet, browse small websites or use hangouts/fb messanger but i it seems outgoing connection is slow or none.
It happens at random and can last for 1 or more hours.
When i take seedtest, download is fine at 4Mbps but when it gets to upload app stops until <force close>.
Something is wrong with outgoping bandwith.. Ive tried to set up APN manually, restart, clear cache etc nothing works.
Ive been on the phone with operator and they said its all fine on their end.
I'm on unlimited Tmobile 3g tariff.
Anyone faced similar problem or knows how to solve it?
i appreciate any help
My service provider isnt as slow as 500kb/s but thats all i can really get. This isnt the first OnePlus phone that has been slow on mobile data. Ive tried 3 different ones to try and get better speeds but downloading always takes forever.
Is there a fix for this problem because i see folks posting how this thing gets fast speeds on certain carriers even my own. Id like to cash in on that as well. Im in a prime area and my plan never goes over my data cap because i hardly get the speeds to do it.
Can someone shed some light on this?
Try creating your own APN. Look up some options for your carrier. I'm in the USA and on T-Mobile. When I first got the OP5 I was getting like 1-5mbps at my house when my Nexus 6P was getting 30mbps or more with the same sim card. So I started playing around with different APN's and I was fine. Once on 4.5.8 I think the regular APN was working fine. But whoever you carrier is, maybe tweaking the APN is your answer.

Thanks for the suggestion, unknowing to me my phone already had 3 different default apns to select for my carrier. Only time can tell because I never know what exactly it will do at different times or how it will behave so I guess I'll keep on keeping on until maybe something breaks or it just straight up works. thanks for the suggestion.

Depending on the rom you have it could be a few things.
OOS Rom's should just be a case of creating the correct APN for your carrier.
For example EE UK, all that's needed is NAME: Internet APN: everywhere
Menu / Save / Activate
From that point it's all ready to roll.
There are some other options on other Rom's like AOSP and LOS
For example VOLTE, NV and RUSIM, Preferred Network Mode.
So long as this is all set up correctly it should be fine.
Also try the different SIM slot and make sure to remove the not used APN's
Download Ookla's Speedtest app and test your changes.
Another thing could be that you've chosen a network manually, I always set this to automatic.
PS: Further to these points i've noticed that compared to my HTC 10, the Oneplus is nowhere near as quick in terms of connectivity, same SIM, EE UK, max i had at home on 4G+ was 157Mb where as on My Oneplus it's around 50Mb at best, which is a 3rd of the speed, bit of a drop.
I have a thread open for this in the Q+A, I'm querying Baseband, Firmware, Kernel, i think it may have something to do with it.
If you're stock then this is not something you have to worry about.
????? Anyone ????
