Hi, so I've had my acer iconia tab a500 for a few months, rooted it and recently it had been shutting off randomly I thought this might just be honeycomb being buggy.
Well In the past week my tablet has been stuck in a boot-loop that I have no Idea how to fix, the only thing I have changed on the tablet is the boot animation to a custom one that was posted on this forum.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I've been thinking of bringing it back for warranty but I'm not sure if me having root would void that.
If anyone could help that would be nice, I tried doing the update.zip thing but I still got a boot-loop although it went slightly longer than before. Now my tablet won't show up when plugged into my laptop so I don't know what to do. I'd appreciate the help if anyone knows anything on how to fix this.
I don't know if this is a factor but I replaced the boot animation with one from this forum, could that be what is causing the bootloop?

That depends. Did the boot animation ever work? If so, then no. It's a pretty benign mod.
If it didn't work the first time you booted after pushing it to your tab and has since been looping then you borked the process somehow.
Hmm, I'm not really sure where I borked it.

Okay so this is what i did as directed by the guys above.
1. Download this file. have to warn you though this service is horribly slow http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...ww.filesonic.com/file/958397...pdate.zip.html
2. Put your external SD card into your computer, and copy over the file to the root of the card.
3. Rename the file update.zip(make sure it isn't named update.zip.zip)
4. Put the SD card back it the tab.
5. Make sure your tab is completely shut down.
6. Hold down the volume down button and press the power button.( dont let go of the volume down button till the screen turns on)
7. The recovery will boot and the update should hopefully restore your tab.
8.(optional but recommended) follow these steps in order to revert back to the latest OTA american version so that your able to upgrade to 3.1 when it comes out.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101859
Hope this helps.

I tried following this, I'm not sure if that is the incorrect way to do it.
Hi guys,
Same problem. I flashed this Stock ROM 3.2.1 on my A501, but got bootloop. I flashed back my original ROM over it but I still got bootloop. Could you tell me if that procedure is correct?
Thanks in advance.

Hi guys i know Brian117 originally posted this and sc2k helped him fix hes tablet i apologize for not continuing the thread
but its been almost 8 hours since i bricked my tablet. i can't take it anymore i tried alot of things i search Google for answers until i gave up.
Im not a pro but im not new to flashing roms so i originally installed CWM from the "it's Magic" post from sc2k i did it successfully then installed
Dexter's primee rom successfully aswell no problem. Once i discover Virtous picasso rom, Honey Villain rom i decided to test them out aswell
see witch one fit my liking so i did successfully. After seeing Virtous galaxy i decided to check it out i did i got an error at boot so after posting
my error some suggested i update my CWM so i was able to boot into galaxy rom loved it then i downloaded "update-recovery-thor2002ro-rev1.3.4"
from the instruction i gathered im suppose to just flash it through CWM so i did and it said that i succesfully flashed it now reboot into CWM to see
the changes so at this point i thought heck yeah!! then to my surprise i reboot it the tablet and was greeted to " secure boot: image SOS checksum fail!" so i then tried a normal reboot the ACER logo just stood there hanging looking back at me laughing.
Before i originally installed CWM i followed all instruction so i have all my back ups and UID saved on my PC. i Already pm sc2k about see if he can help me
but i thought i post the whole processed of what i did to avoid others bricking their tablet aswell and hopefully in the mean time if any of you guys have any suggestions, tips i gladly welcome them since i cant return it to staples anymore i have to deal with Acer if i cant get it to work. Also I fully understand this is a risk i took and not blaming no one for my error all im asking is for help
u done one wrong step, u didnt run its magic before installing thor recovery i think..
I am pretty sure that thor explains in his thread that you should flash his "update-recovery-thor2002ro-rev1.*.*" files only if you allready have his version of recovery installed.
So you should have installed the full "recovery-thor2002ro-rev1.3.4.rar" as described in 1st post of his thread and not just try to flash the update-recovery file.
Maybe thor or sc2k can help you now..
I think the problem was that your original cwm was an older version that did not run itsmagic automatically on startup and the update package doesn't run it either. I'm so glad to see someone who has backups!
Don't know if this will help.. The hang at the logo is usually an indication of needing to do a data wipe after installing a custom rom. Was the tablet booting normally before flashing the cwm update?
Anyway, this thread from sc2k demonstrates a method to wipe data. You can see if that will help get you past the logo screen. If it does, great.. run itsmagic, then you should be able to get back into recovery.
If it doesn't help, you'll need to ask sc2k how to unbrick via nvflash (that's what mcblk0_start file is for).
Edit: aw man..I just realized I forgot the link.... ah well
Update: with help from sc2k i was able to fix my tablet it worked great.

How do I PM SC2K. I have the same issue with my a500. LNX Checksum error. I Need Help!!! Please Help.
hi all i attempted to use the dextor hack and i messed up with the flash all data step i thought it did it but it didnt and then when i went to update and it was done i just get a black screen when i turn on the device i can not even go into recovery mode its just basically lighting up the screen and nothing i am very tech savy so i can do just about what ever i need to just somebody please help me out hours of looking and i cant find a single thing on this
Not Really Sure how much help i can give you seeing as i never seen anyone brick one of theses devices. Im pretty sure you don't a Elocity A7+, from i beleive they aren't available on the market. You should have a regular Elocity A7.
Before you check the link below be very positive you can't get into recovery, sometime it take a little long for it to come up.
Also if the tablet is new you should also think about calling or emailing Elocity to see if it can be replaced.
most of use aren't very active in the Elocity A7 forum of xda, so you may get more help at Tabletroms Forum
I don't no much about Nvflash but you should read into this it may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022273
The A7+ has been selling and shipping for the past few weeks, i just got mine delivered today. Now I'm here learning that trying to use the A7- hack might be a bad idea.
a7+ bricked fix
See Destron5683 response for black screen, make sure you use the a7+ update if you bricked your new a7+ trying to upgrade it.
Any advice for following
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21109150
and then not being able to access the keyboard? Thats the point I am at currently.
This is an older thread, but assuming you have not tried it, see the recovery information at ElocityNow website:
http://www.elocitynow.com/prod_a7-plus_recovery.shtml
You should be able to get back up and running it the recovery posted in the post above. I got my A7+ stuck in a boot loop when I changed something that I shouldn't have in the build.prop and the PC recovery method worked just fine.
Hey guys let me start by saying I have done quite a bit of searching and im not a total noob when it comes to this stuff. I have still been unable to find an answer to my questions...
So basically I have a Droid 2 and I flashed the CM9 ICS Alpha onto it had it running great (Cant wait to get past alpha ) But due to the fact that its an alpha and really nothing works I wanted to go back to my librity rom... I tried to boot into recovery and that caused a boot loop instead of booting into recovery.
So from there I went to flash the stock SBF onto the phone and it keeps just getting stuck in a boot loop even when flashing the stock SBF. What have I done! lol How do I get this thing back to a factory setup?
I would really like to figure this out but if I cant I will be putting another mobo in it as that may be the easier solution haha
Thanks for taking the time to help me with this and if you know somewhere this has already been discussed please direct me to it as I could not find it...
Nevermind lol
I was able to get it to boot by booting into recovery and running the factory reset. But I had already tried that once before posting this and it had not worked...
Well anyway all is good for me now maybe this will help someone eventually have a great day.
Hello there, I've searched on this forum some methods on trying to get out of the boot loop. Someone gave me this tablet and i thought that i would reset the device but it just ended up on a bootloop. I know that this device should probably be thrown out, but maybe there is a chance to use it. If you had a bootloop problem and fixed it or even bricked your a500, would you mind posting the exact thread here for me to read.
The links on this forums were mostly dead so if anyone can give working links please?
Thanks!

If it bootloops I think the best way is to use an update.zip to reset the device.
