I have a Rogers Dream 32B. Radio 3.x (this is EBI1, correct?).
I was following the instructions on the CM wiki to root my phone and install CM 5. I can't link outside as a new user, but the article titles on CM wiki are "Full Update Guide - Rogers Dream 911 Patched" and "Upgrading From CM 4.2 or other rooted ROMS to 5.0.x(Dream/Sapphire)"
I used fastboot to install Amon_Ra's recovery, which is the first note. But after that I'm not exactly sure what I did to brick my phone.
Stalls at the Rogers splash screen. I can access the bootloader with the 3 androids on skateboards by holding down Camera + Power. I can also issue fastboot commands. I can also boot into recovery by holding down Home + Power. I haven't tried doing anything in recovery other than having it power off the phone, but I can see it says I have Amon_Ra's recovery version. I can't issue adb commands to the phone, which is step 4 in the tutorial - copying the ROM and google apps files to the SD card.
If I do a reset in recovery, will that help me at all? Or is there something else I can try?

You're not bricked.
Couple of options:
1) Go into fastboot and flash a COMPATIBLE recovery.img. You installed an EBI0 recovery image, you need an EBI1.
2) Go into fastboot and flash an EBI0 radio (version starts with a "2").
I suggest option 2, since it will improve your compatibility with custom ROMs. It is also MUCH SAFER to have a 2.x radio since it is compatible with ALL SPLs ("1.x" and "3.x" are each only compatible with *some* SPLs.)

Thanks for your help lbcoder.
EDIT: Actually, I installed the correct recovery image! I have RA-dream-v1.7.0R, which is the one for EBI1.
If I downgrade to EBI0, will this affect my connection to UMTS 850/1900? I am using the Dream on ATT and got the Rogers version so I can use 3G in the USA.

I use the same combination, Rogers Dream on AT&T. Started off with the EBI1 kernel and 3.x radio, but after a while went to EBI0 and tried both current 2.x radios. I found no noticeable difference in reception or speed with any combination.

No, it won't affect your radio frequencies.
Your phone is basically TWO COMPUTERS. One is the "radio" computer, the other is the "application" computer. Each of these runs their own operating system. You'll just be running your radio computer on an operating system that is *more compatible* with the typical ROMs that you might find for similar hardware.
Hello,
I have got a HTC Tattoo (Un-rooted) with The HTC standard rom.
And i wants to ask som Questions to you guys!
1. i got This Error when i tested the 1 click root and what should i do??
2. What i a Recovery imagine like "RA-Tattoo-v1.6.2" and why does i need one??
3. Im a Norwegian and i wants a FroYo ROM with Norwegian language, has "[ROM] SP-FroYo v1.6" that?
4. What can go wrong with the rooting has anyone lost their tattoo??
5. Gold card?? My phone is not operator locked, does i need one then?
6. how to test about the goldcard is working??
7. Is live wallpaper working in 2.2 Rom's For Tattoo?
Thanks! (srry bad english)
1. have you enabled usb debugging on your device? Have you installed the Android SDK?
2. You need a recovery to install new roms and make backups of your complete system with all your settings and apps.
3. I think you can install morelocale on that rom. So yes it should be possible. But you should know that not everything is working on 2.2 and 2.1 roms. The most important thing is the camera that is not yet functioning. But there are many custom 1.6 roms where anything is working and which have some advantages compared to stock.
4. I don't think there is much that could go wrong with this rooting script if follow the introductions. Later when you flash new roms you should always make a Nandroid-Backup in your recovery. You never know if there are problems with the new rom. You go to recovery by shutting down your phone and then push home and power button till recovery menu appears. Unless you flash a new radio you can't brick your phone.
5. You don't need one.
7. I think it is but I never tried out by myself.

Yes there is a recovery in it. You mean Simlocked or what kind of locked. If yes put a Simcard of an other provider in your phone and you will see it. If you didn't buy at a provider's shop it's probably not simlocked.
I know the camera is not that good and not even comparable to your real camera. But there are several apps that use the camera like reality browsers, barcode scanners, google shopper and goggles. But if you think you don't need that and if you don't need HTC Sense the rom you mentioned is surely a good choice. If you want guides go to the unlockr.com
Thanks Man!
Hi guys,
just hoping one of your knowlegable forum members may be able to assist or shed some light on why I am experiencing this.
I have successfully rooted and loaded custom roms on my desire.
wife has a htc wildfire, rooted with oneclick root and gold card
hboot 1.o s off
customised rom installed, SU no problems
I cannot load alpha 1.8 on wildfire, (they say version 2)
so rom manager is loaded, flashed the clockwork mod and tried boot to recovery and backup current rom, both result in being taken to the standard htc recovery with no other options (restore etc).
boot to hboot and recovery option aslo lands me back at the standard recovery option, i reboot to current rom no probs.
i have uninstalled/reinstalled rom manager, fixed permissions, get eror when trying to load earlier versions of clockwork in rom manager/ nothing changes?
any thoughts guys? i want to backup this rom before trying something else and losing it.
TX in advance
Col
Have you tried the fastboot method to flash recovery since you have s-off? You can find clockworkmod 3.0 or amonra in the development section in the thread somewhere.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
tx for the reply, i will check it out this evening
Col
I really doubt that fastboot method will work, because it seems you must have eng hboot with normal hboot it won't work. I had a similar situation with hboot 1.01.0001 that was made s-off and in the end I've managed to flash recovery with flash_image tool. Just follow these steps

You can not root ıt for now.You should waıt for a newer versıon of unrevoked tool, bro.
I need help doing this, wildfire is s-off by xtc clip.
Can't find the way, tried almost everything, original ruu; then unrevoked, then the above.
Help...
I've the exact same problem
I have a WTC Wildfire 2.2.1 + S-Off by xtc clip.
The bastard won't identify the recovery file on my SD card (tried the clockwork 2.5.0.7 and the 3.0.0.6) I'm out of ideas here!
Can anyone help us?
Same problem here, tried the cyanogen wiki given in the post above. still cant get into recovery. I am currently rooted with superuser permissions, but every method I use to get to recovery just results in my phone booting into the last rom that I installed.
Tried various recoveries in rom manager, and various img's in unrevoked, but still no luck
Can anyone help? Please?

Of course its gonna boot into the rom...
while the phone is off, hold the volume down button, and press power button while holding the vol down button. white screen with android skateboarders should appear, with several options. wait for it to scan for pc49img, it will say nothing found, its okay. with volume buttons navigate to recovery and press power button.
not that hard eh?
if it doesnt work now, then you have no recovery? no problem. flash one with fastboot mode!

Thanks for the info, but yes I did do that (holding the volume down button and power on) I have gone into recovery loads of times before - so I do know that already LOL. I should have said that.
tried flashing another one through fastbbot i.e. with latest revolutionary for wildfire, still no luck - it just crashes, saying that I may have too high a firmware - but it definately has root - I have titanium running and it backs up and restores perfectly on a CUSTOM rom.
It was just that after I installed rom manager and installed the latest recovery is when everything went wrong.
Even trying to get to recovery through the rom, i.e. clicking on reboot into recovery via rom manager, still just rebooted straight back into the rom
I have tried flashing another via fastboot using revolutionary, but it says that maybe my firmware is too high - even though I have a rooted rom running

I am not getting you here. Revolutionary is a 1 time process to get S-OFF. After that, you need not touch it again to perform functions. How exactly are you trying to install a Recovery using Revolutionary and Fastboot?
Or did you mean Unrevoked? (This does not have anything to do with Fastboot though)
@smokzye - That is a bit "outdated". You do not need the SDK. Just the 4 files in this attachment:

but its always good to have the sdk, ha. besides there is a link in my thread (your reply) for the binary and other fastboot stuff.

SOLVED
Thanks guys for all your help.
I managed to get recovery back by using "revolutionary-0.4pre4" - I think it's an version of revolutionary, but it sorted it, and now I can boot into recovery. It did at first say that I already have S-OFF and questioned whether I knew what I was doing - LOL, but after that it asked whether I wanted to install a recovery and it put on Clockwork recovery dl'd from the internet.
pl guide me how can i backup original ROM to mobile or PC. my current ROM details are as under
Model ZTE Blade
Android version 2.2
kernel version. 2.6.32.0-mck-1.3
also to know what generation do my ZTE Blade have.
regards.
download from android market "ask mr. pigfish" it will show you what gen you have.
yeah. i would like this too: create a image.bin from my stock rom so I can easily put it back when I want to RMA it.
Any help on the subject, anyone?
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-backup-your-android-phones-boot-recovery-and-system-partition-images/
this might help
if it help hit thnks
kernel version. 2.6.32.0-mck-1.3 <- that's a modaco custom rom, not an original zte rom.
Anyway to back up any rom, use clockworkmod. As you're running a custom rom, you probably already have it installed. Turn the phone off, then hold the volume down button when you turn it on. You should see a backup option there.
If clockworkmod isn't installed (if you just get 'FTM' on screen when starting with volume down held) then you can install it using rom manager from android market on any rooted phone, or you can install it using adb & fastboot on a non-rooted phone. If Mr Pigfish says that you have 'Gen1' then you need to use clockworkmod version 3.0.1.4, the later versions are for Gen2 phones.
I have a question my zte blade is stuck in android logo after I try to perform a backup of the original rom to sd, how long does it takes to finish ?
Hi guys,
So, a long time ago a friend of mine put Android on my old HTC HD2, I've never really used it. But now, I need to use it and this ROM and stuffs sucks. I would like to unroot it, root it again, flash a new ROM and stuffs but I don't know how!
I'm totally lost with this HTC HD2. The actual ROM right now is a piece of s**t. I tried to Install an OpenRecoveryScript via GooManager it says that there isn't a recovery available for this device. I tried to reboot into recovery via ROM Manager and GooManager but it just simply boot the phone.
I can't go in recovery, I can't do anything, I've tried. Please help me!
Thank you so much!

Maybe you could have tried searching? The HD2 isn't a native Android phone, those things don't work. To get into recovery turn the phone off, long press power then use the volume keys and call button to select 8. AD Recovery in MAGLDR. You may need to change the partition size though, so to do that you can follow the guide in my sig. While I recommend you don't bother doing so, if you insist on wiping and starting afresh then just flash Task29 and again follow the guide in my sig. If you're not sure about what half of these terms mean then check out the guide to the terms in my sig.
Something similar happened to me some time ago. I think the best was is to factory restore the phone by downloading the original Windows 6.5 ROM to the SD card, reflashing it and then to start all over - upgrading radio, installing MAGLDR, etc.
