I was looking around and found the Google plans to release Jelly Bean (5.0) in November of this year! So my question is, will the Cyangen(Mod) developers make this available for our Epic 4g. And also what new features will it feature? There's a rumor we will have an official personal assistant in the OS.

A Leak? Google hasn't even said anything publicly about it yet and your asking for a leak? lol. ICS barely handles on our phone, are phones have 360Mb of Ram after everything said and done but ICS requires 400Mb so were sliding along. Jelly Bean unless its less aggressive but doesn't require as much RAM as ICS, we wont be able to run it. Your talking about extremely new technology and software trying to handle the latest and greatest on older tech.
Put in terms of Trying to Run Win7 (PC) with only 256Mb of Ram, and 1.2GHz Single Core Processor Never going to happen lol.
Wouldnt you have upgraded to a new phone by November anyway? Maybe not but the majority of us will and i dont cyanogenmod would support a phone that would be nearly dead by the time of jelly bean. Our phones are lucky enough to run ICS.

I have 383MB of RAM. But I agree that ICS itself should be more than enough to hold everyone over till upgrade time.

if you go into TW task manager and look at ram it should say whatever amount your using and be exactly 359Mb im on Ginger Bread so im not exactly sure ICS is the same but how could you possibly have more? lol.
But if and ever Jelly Bean were to successfully be ported to this phone then it will hold up to its name be "EPIC"! The way i see it if the Samsung galaxy 3 or 5 can have ICS and run it most likely than this phone should handle more you'd think? it would be the only phone that would say it had 5 major OS Updates haha and kept alive even when considered old Tech.
ICS was just released...why would it be leaked? I don't think that kinda stuff gets leaked anyway.

Don't forget that the stock b0 cm9 kernel freed up an extra 36 mb of ram.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
ICS is barely chugging along on our phones. You would be sacrificing serious usability if the jelly bean was ported. ICS runs smooth, most of the time, but its clear that the epic is right on the edge.

Jelly Bean and Cyanogenmod
I believe that once Jelly Bean gets dropped, if Cyanogen supports it there is a possibility we could get it. I had the original G1 running Cyanogen6 on it and that was long after the official updates stopped from Google/TMo. I mean if they can get Froyo on a device that stopped getting updates at Doughnut, I believe they can get some Jelly on a Gingerbread. This is just an opinion though. Either way I am fine with my ICS on my Epic.

If you wanna get technical that's the RAM left on the build. The device itself physically has 512MB of RAM doesn't it? The extra 36MB didn't magically appear out of thin air, it had to already physically be there to begin with.

That was my thought. Is there a place where I can see a breakdown of the full 512mb?
Reason I ask, is under menu > manage apps> All, it lists 184mb used and 493mb free, and unless my math has gone screwy, that adds to 677mb which is more than 512mb
Also, under menu > system settings> storage, under apps, it shows total of 676mb, with 180mb used.
What gives??? Is this all due to the file system conversion to MTD?

I believe it that is storage space not RAM. Our phones are supposed to have 512 mb of ram. I am not 100 percent sure where you would find that actual break down though.
edit: the 676 megabytes under storage is the data partition. This is how much space you have to store apps on your internal storage. My guess is you would have to get some kind of ram manager in order to see the actual memory allocation.

Those two parts are both listing internal storage space.
MTD conversion resized the partitions so storage has ~677MB.
Back to RAM.
There is 512MB total. On stock Epic drivers and kernel configs, ~165MB is dedicated to system space(kernel/driver/phone os) leaving ~347MB to user space (app memory).
Our cm devs have found out how to free up 36MB from the system by merging Nexus S drivers and sacrificing 1080p video playback (kinda overkill on a 800x480 screen anyway)
And tweaking some jpeg lib for another 1.9MB.
So right now we have ~384MB available in ICS.
And its still possible (AFAIK) to free up another ~32MB with the move to 3.0.x kernel (further merging with Nexus S base).
I think the 400MB(user space) requirement is for reaching the intended performance for ICS multi tasking.
I might not be 100% correct though.

coz all the GUI is taken care by the GPU.
and making it to do multiwindow will increase stress on it.
even adreno 205 scores better than SGX540.

Samsung may include a premium update with these features along or after the 4.1.2 or 4.2.x update. I'm waiting for the similar update on the s3 mini, but knowing Samsung this will take a while with the release of s4.
A large part of these "premium" features that the s2 got along with the 4.1.2 update could work on other Samsung devices like smart stay or smart rotate that are very useful on a tablet that can be used for reading ebooks. All we can do for now is wait.

There isn't much difference in performance with the s2 compared to the s1. The main difference is that games run smoother and that apps open slightly faster. Ui performance is practically identical.

Well, CM10.1 will never be fully "Stable" until samsung releases the code source for the S2 however it is still extremely stable, it just cannot be officially called stable. I've never had issues with it and no-one really does as well (only the people that **** something up in their system do) but it cannot be called "Stable" by CM until the source is released. Stock samsung (4.1.2) is extremely fast, nice and smooth. They really have improved their stock firmwares and the good thing is that the S2 will get official 4.2.2. (sometime in the future)
There is also another issue that the s2 has and that is that the RIL crashes sometimes on 4.2.2 and 4.1.2 (I've never had it but others have) and it won't be fixed till official 4.2.2 from samsung is released however, using Dorimanx kernel prevents this from happening.
I think that you should get it, just install CM10.1 and Dorimanx kernel and you will see how fast it is compared to the S1.

Huh I find no issue with 4.2.2, its the best thing yet! We have spent so much time optimzing 4.2.2 that it is so stable and usable. Fast forward to 4.3 which is much newer we have spent much less time on it so for sure it is not as good. However I dont understand which part of either these versions, 4.2.2 or 4.3 is bloated care explaining? Even if Android 4.4 has so called less RAM usage and kernel improvements it would not really matter to us. Take kernel changes for example. We can't just port AOSP code and use it for our devices correct? Remember the time when we only had official 4.0 and 4.1 was released by Google. Everybody wanted Project butter. Due to Sammy not giving us official 4.1 and its source code on time (thank god they actually gave the source code..) we would never have gotten close to full project butter experience which we still lack fully. So if Sammy does not give us what we need then we can use 4.4 without its so called perks like "less RAM usage"
Yeah 4.4 should have lower hardware requirements. However, it doesn't matter because our exynos device still lacks proper drivers. That's worsen by the fact that we currently have no Galaxy S2 devs left working on CM to port new android versions to our device

The bloated versions are Samsung's ones... Pure Android is not bloated

Yes I know that. But our phone has no problem running 4.2.2 or 4.3 that are AOSP based...... So whats the purpose of this thread anyway.... Cus Sammy has no intention of ever updating this phone to a higher version...

Yeah 4.4 should have lower hardware requirements. However, it doesn't matter because our exynos device still lacks proper drivers. That's worsen by the fact that we currently have no Galaxy S2 devs left working on CM to port new android versions to our device

Untill now, the S2 is running is able to run 4.3.1 and 100% it will able to run 4.4
Samsung adds a lot of bloatware to their official roms which make the device slow
that's why I never use stock rom
Yea but what about cool features like multi window smart functions and motion ?
If this doesn't mean smth for you .... what about drivers? 4.2/4.3 have a lot of glitches with graphics and cuz samsung dont release exynos source code our beloved s2 will die one day in a near future
