Hello everyone, I feel sad to say this but I have sold my S1 and gotten a S2. I will miss this community a lot...
The S1 community is great and has taught me very valuable information about android.
I will still lurk the S1 forums but not as much as I used to...

There isn't much difference in performance with the s2 compared to the s1. The main difference is that games run smoother and that apps open slightly faster. Ui performance is practically identical.
Also audio quality in the s1 is much better than the s2 but that doesn't bother me that much.

Good bye bro
I also got a second hand s2 and it was nice but couldn't resist to sell it for a $40 profit and again back to my sgs
I bought a gnex last 2 weeks n was planning to sell this s1. But i dont think to sell my beloved s1 cause of the community and support from devs and users. This community is great hence i still use this s1.
Anyway good luck with your new community.

Well, CM10.1 will never be fully "Stable" until samsung releases the code source for the S2 however it is still extremely stable, it just cannot be officially called stable. I've never had issues with it and no-one really does as well (only the people that **** something up in their system do) but it cannot be called "Stable" by CM until the source is released. Stock samsung (4.1.2) is extremely fast, nice and smooth. They really have improved their stock firmwares and the good thing is that the S2 will get official 4.2.2. (sometime in the future)
There is also another issue that the s2 has and that is that the RIL crashes sometimes on 4.2.2 and 4.1.2 (I've never had it but others have) and it won't be fixed till official 4.2.2 from samsung is released however, using Dorimanx kernel prevents this from happening.
I think that you should get it, just install CM10.1 and Dorimanx kernel and you will see how fast it is compared to the S1.

That's just the world of smartphones, sadly.
As an old Blackberry user, this doesn't surprise me at all.. But from looking at the specs of the Nexus S and the SGS, there's really not a major difference.. I definitely won't be losing sleep over it

Well...here's the problem.. Nexus S doesn't really feel like an upgrade from Galaxy S.
1. Bluetooth 3.0 becomes Bluetooth 2.1
2. moviNAND becomes iNAND
3. No microSD card slot
4. No 720p video recording
Of course there are some good things with the Nexus S
1. Android 2.3 and software support from Google (No more Samsung!)
2. Contour Display
3. Near Field Communications (NFC)
4. Three-axis gyroscope
5. Anti-fingerprint display coating
6. Flash for camera
7. Maybe better GPS
However, to me, the only real advantage with Nexus S is software support (and GPS if it's true). Hardware-wise, Nexus S is not as good as Galaxy S. I think the best would be the Nexus S rom gets ported to Galaxy S.

The processor has to power through 2.5x the screen resolution of the S2, but my understanding is that ICS helps with any Note sluggishness.
I just returned my ATT Note and should have an International on the doorstep tomorrow. I'm pumped to toy with it.
From what I understand the Note's ICS leak is atrocious compared to the ones for the GS2. However even a buggy ICS leak is better than the antiquated Gingerbread. I couldn't get the Touchwiz ICS roms to work (home button not responsive, no lockscreen) but had great success with AOKP builds.

Great choice mate. Don't worry, the phone is very fast - especially with AOSP stock ROM, cause let's be straight here - TouchWiz is not the best...some people might like the looks or featurer ( i dont ) but it's very sluggish when compared to stock.
About the phone ? If you're looking for multimedia smartphone/tablet - you couldn't have chosen a better one. Enormous, and quality screen, fast CPU, lots of RAM and storage - and great battery life. You'll be definitely happy with your new phone.
And take a look at Imilka's ASOP ICS ROM - it really makes the Note amazing.

Anyway, if you're after the big display, you won't regret. And be sure to read all the stickies and guides before trying to flash anything
I enjoy mine very much and I hope you'll be happy with yours as well!
p.s. If you purchase a case, make sure it's a "magnet free" one - many users (incl. myself) complained of S-pen interference from the magnet of the case.

Should't even think of trying the Note.
1. The real big screen will make your eyes taking more time in looking around it.
2. Its vividness will hurt your eyes.
3. You will not be welcome by stationery shop just because of the S-pen.
4. USB drive connecting ability allow you too much flexibility. This may force you to even carry a mouse everywhere with you just for doing something requiring such high precision on the Note.
5. It may waste lots of your times playing high-end HD games due to its too much CPU power.
Don't go for the Note please ^^

To the OP: Do read all the stickies as somebody already said. Flashing is NOT hard on the note, it just requires you to know what you are doing; once you read all the stickies carefully and thoroughly, am quite sure you would know what to flash, what not to and how to flash. Cheers!

Is it too different than flashing other phones?
Like, flash a recovery then copy zip and apply update?

the principal is the same yes, But however there is a major bug in the stock ICS kernel(s) can that cause hardbrick (brickbug) when doing a factory reset.
So long as you flash a safe kernel before hand you will be fine, Just read the guides and if you have any issues / questions, dont be afraid to ask.
Also check my Signature for real time IRC chat.
It's confirmed. Will get mine today after work. Got it for about 400 dollars, on my carrier points program.
The only problem I may have will be with kernels?

There's some stickys in development section:
Dr ketans to do with flashing stock roms, and a separate one for rooting and installing cwm.
Another on the superbrick or emmc bug affecting most ics kernels. Includes information on safe kernels that have had emmc format bug removed.
Those are the main ones to get you started.

Paranoid on this beast is awesome. If you go for paranoid, I'd recommend using v0.2a rather than 0.3, there's a couple of issues with gps and mms on 0.3. Imilka (the dev has said he's working on an update and he's usually pretty sharpish so think 0.4 will be out v soon.

My note is Thailand version. There's nothing to be worried as long as you're not running yourself into hacking stuffs though I did once and even I did the famous frightening FactoryReset! when I was on Rooted Stock ICS after stuck in booting loops because of playing with VM Heap size tweak (set it below 64m will trigger this, so be careful).
I survive the night and day because of lots sharing in this forum. I learned how to do flashing ROM with Odin and other fearful stuffs I've never even though I would have need to get through it.
So, I recommend you just try using it, as it is first since pre-installed ICS may have something different, with 3 to 5 days/full recharge cycles and then let see any of what will be bothering you.
To have 14+ hours battery life on my Note with normal use (3G/Wifi all times, note taking, Facebook..etc..and of course the XDA app) running stock ICS, I did;
- Rooted
- Battery calibration
- SetCPU profiles
- Leave the SD Card slot empty
- Off auto screen brightness
- Manually control screen brightness, 30% to minimum values are good enough to my eyes
- OFF auto Hovering pen icon (ON only when I really need)
- OFF Screen Capture service (ON only when I really need)
- Freeze un-needed services
It's hard to identify which tweak saves how much % battery life, there are just cumulative tricks from my little experience. Lots of last tweaks are done by TB.

Hello,
Seems like Google's busy again huh?
Notable new features:
-Google Now enhanced
-Google Play enhanced
-Stock Video Player updated
-Project Road Runner to increase your battery life 3 folds
-and more!
Hopefully these improvements do not require any help from Samsung? Gawd if a new hwcomposer is needed etc then we will be out of luck since Samsung probably will ditch us after 4.1...

I find it hard to believe that road runner will be implemented to every device that gets the update. Nexus devices most certainly (they get everything) but I think the development to bring that to every device that's able to receive KLP will be too great and time consuming.

It is very possible it could be ported but if it is and there's no official release from Samsung for the i9100 its going to be very hard for the devs to pull apart the sources from another device, (say the i9300) and try to merge it together for ours. Most likely miss alot of key features. Like with JB devs cannot manage to get butter working, and their only hope is when JB is officially released, but even then there's rumours going around that the s3 won't even have a properly working project butter.

Precisely my point. If the LG is the only Nexus device released this time round (rumors point to 4 other devices by other brands), I can see XDAers gobbling up the LG Optimus Nexus.
The choice is much easier this time around, unlike the Galaxy Nexus which wasn't that much better spec wise than its contemporaries.

There's rumors of it as well, but personally at this current point in time I feel that the rumors for the LG Optimus Nexus are more "concrete",if that's the word for it.
Androidauthority has a write up on it:

The specs don't look encouraging. It seems to be only a slight upgrade over the old i9250, and is packing a dual-core A9 CPU.
Now, I realize that not everyone goes for specs, but I'm a specs guy and the Optimus Nexus is the most exciting phone for me in quite a while. :fingers-crossed:

If project roadrunner is all about the efficiency of the usage of the soc, then it might not work on exynos devices too.

AFAIK, nobody knows how exactly it's supposed to work right? Maybe it's a rework of the software internals? If I have to guess, maybe it's a radical rewrite of the Dalvik VM to make it much more efficient, or aggressive optimization of Android OS itself.
There will be multiple nexus phones. Don't you guys read the latest news? The nexus program will see huge changes.

Welcome, sir! You won't regret with your decision of getting an S2. Just keep your mind open. There are a lot of things that you can read everywhere that might lead you to regretting. But as long as you keep your mind open, you'll be fine.
Enjoy your S2 and enjoy your stay here.

Or the terrible sound quality thanks to the Yamaha audio chip?
http://soundexpert.org/news/-/blogs/audio-quality-of-galaxy-sii
In some countries you cant buy an cheaper but better phone then S2, even with all his flaws.
Maybe an iphone 4,4s second hand.
Galaxy powered by GM and Dorimanx.
a second hand phone was an absolutely NO for me, it just ruins the purpose of getting a NEW phone
As for the issues, i'm stunned by the 5.1quality when i plug in my headphones (Leona Lewis ft Avicii - Collide was the first track i tried)
and that camera issue was a luck based issue just like the yellow tint on Xperia S.
The only worthy contender was the HTC One S, but in India it comes with a S3 processor instead of S4..

I would only consider sound quality terrible if I hear it sound terrible. It doesn't. Out of two options for judging a sound -- reading about it, or hearing it myself -- my choice is obvious. I personally find the S2 sound very good (not awesome, comparing to some other devices, but still very good). Sure, there are other people that don't like it -- I am fine with that, let them get another phone...
Well I bought mine 3 days ago so welcome to me!!!

I thought it was a great phone to use once flashed with w/e flavor rocks one's boat
Mine sure is acting great, after settling with what I want from it.
Cheers!
Just upgraded from the HTC design due to the lack of support for it... I miss the HTC Sense, but the sgs2 has much better hardware...
