Hey there, trying to flash my Vibrant, but I constantly run into the same problem. When I go into CWM and try to wipe data/factory reset, the phone is stuck at "Wiping data...". I looked this problem up, but most people are stuck in a loop so I could not find an answer for my problem as of yet. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks for reading.
Have you considered starting from scratch?
ODIN back to stock, flash a custom recovery, flash the ROM?
By the way, this thread should have been posted in the Q & A section.

Thanks for your response. What does it mean by ODIN? Does that mean it'll unroot my phone? And by stock, do you mean factory stock phone (as if it were brand new)?
And my bad, I'll post questions in the Q&A from now on, thanks for that tip.
ODIN is a program that we use to flash our phones back to stock, meaning factory stock.
But, you will be able to re-root your phone and install a custom recovery, there's some guides in the Q&A section that you might want to check out.
Here's a guide

Easiest way is to copy a stock rom on your ext SD card. You can get one in vaches thread ' full packages' in the dev forum.
Then boot to recovery. Do wipes. Go to recovery and restore and toggle data/media. Then go to mounts and storage and do full formats.
This will format everything in internal memory.
Then flash the stock rom.

+1 i would flash an old stock rom than get the ota update or just flash a stock rom....a bit off topic but what do you think acer would do if you sent in a rooted tablet?

Most cases nothing. Although technically they could charge you. Considering all the bricked tabs on the first ics update, I'm sure they don't bother looking.
thanks for all the help. I was able to flash to a stock rom!
I did these steps and must have made a mistake on the rom and now I am bootlooping. Any advice on how to restore back to factory would be appreciated

You will need your UID
Download the following file
EUUs_SBK_Acer_A500_1.016.05_COM_GEN1.zip
You will have to search to find it.
Then follow the instructions from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516012
Don't use the Timmydean version as it is rooted and doesn't have the stock recovery use the file you downloaded.
This will return you to stock.
Hi all, I made a major mistake this morning flashing fauxs ultimate kernel. Basically forgot to wipe cache and davlik and now can't do anything with tablet. I backed up before flashing so can I get back into recovery through a dB and if so what commands to I need. Any help will be greatly appreciated
Wait you can go to recovery, and restore your backup and you call this a brick? I
Am little confused here.
(go into bootloader from there to recovery and recover it)

You forgot to wipe cache/dalvik and this "bricked" your device and then you posted your question in the wrong section?
You need to read and search and understand what you're doing prior to posting threads here.

If you have a custom recovery, plug your n7 into a computer, then boot up while holding volume down + power to get into fastboot mode, which will allow you to go into recovery.
Worst case scenario, you can use fastboot to reflash a stock image.
As others have said, you'll want to look it up and read more carefully. Most kernels don't even require wiping, though if you think this one does, you can try wiping them then reflashing the kernel again.
I have had several custom roms using TWRP with no problems. Today I decided to try pacman rom and nandroid backed up my negalite wonderom. downloaded pacman to external card, rebooted to TWRP. I formatted internal storage and did full wipes on everything but external sd. I tried installing pacman zip and get FAILED unzipping and updating partition. so I then try flashing my old rom and get same error. I then nandroid back to previous rom and boots as expected. If i reboot again, I get stuck on samsung galaxy s4 boot screen. I've tried repeating all these steps but now I am without a phone until one of you nice people help me. What can I do? Please help.

During this whole ordeal, I was trying to install CWM over TWRP and accidentally checked repartition in ODIN, it didn't seem to do anything ..just hanged and I pulled battery. I am now wondering if this screwed anything up and if so, what can I do?

Take out battery. Put in back in. Go to stock recovery (by pressing volume up and power button and letting go when you see tiny blue letters) from there just do a factory reset then reboot. Dont worry if you a dead android its ok. Then you should be ok.

Well from my understanding we should not have repartition checked. Dont know the outcomes tho but im pretty sure now you need pit files for gs4 sprint to remap the partitions for your phone back the way it was. Should be here in xda but if you cant find them then just odin again a stock tar and do a factory reset in stock recovery. See if that works.
Back to Stock but have a question
So I was able to successfully odin back to stock. I am confused about format data vs wipes. I had some issues on a ROM and someone in a forum advised to format to truly erase any junk left behind by other roms. I did this in TWRP and installed a rom and it fixed the former issues I had on that rom. So I thought I had a new strategy, to format not just wipe.
So now I have CWM and don't even see the option to format data. If I want to make sure I erase everything, how do I ? Just doing factory reset, wipe data, cache and dalvik seems to leave files behind including personal files on internal storage. Just want to learn the best practices to avoid issues. I am kinda glad this happened, been a learning lesson. Thanks to all!
Software/Baseband Version MDC to MF9
After ODIN back to stock I am on MDC and want to get back to MF9. This is the procedure I used a few months ago HERE Is this the best way? Thanks.

Its better if you just accept ota (*optional* do a factory reset when already at mf9.) Or just get the mf9 stock tar and just odin that when you have problems
You can download the mf9 tar here

OK, I am confused but eager to learn. I just did a ODIN back to stock, I am now unrooted. I did a factory reset in stock recovery. Now I think I should be able to click update firmware to get to MF9 but it says no updates found or I am up to date. I don't get this. Why is it not finding any updates?
Even More Confused!
edit
Ok, it is downloading MF9 in background now. Not sure why it initially said no updates found. I should be good now. Thanks!
Hi all,
My nexus4 is on PA 3.99-RC2, and I want to upgrade it to the latest 4.2 beta1
Do I need to FACTORY RESET?
and where do I find the RECOVERY to update?
Thanks
No, just flash it dirty.
By the way, do not open these threads here
There are forums for that

You are wrong, he needs to factory reset once as he is on 4.3 based ROM with older version of bootloader and radio

Yes you have to Factory reset once and then wipe cache/dalvik
flash bootloader,radio then rom,gapps
supersu v.193 reboot
done
you need twrp for it goto wipe option there you will find the Factory reset option.
Henceforth make threads in specific sections. This thread should be in QnA section. Ask any mod to move it.
Thanks.

When I installed it, I installed it dirty and it went fine for me. I forgot just tell him he needs to install bootloader and radio.
When I switched from PA3.99 to the 4.4.2 nexus 5 port I went like this:
- Backup everything you need
- factory reset the phone and reboot, it should be 4.2 stock afterwards
- let the phone update OTA to 4.4.2
- once everything is done you should have a stock nexus 4 with 4.4.2 and no root access.
- now you can download your favorite 4.4.2 ROM, kernel, supersu and mods and put it on the phones internal storage.
- install from recovery as usual, reboot, let it settle, reboot, done.
Worked flawlessly for me. Of course you can do all this manually (flashing latest boot loader, radio etc via fastboot), too. There are lots of threads here explaining all about fastboot, unlocking the bootloader etc if you have any troubles.

Just wondering if anyone knew of a way to flash back to factory on the Developer Edition. I'm an idiot and didn't backup when I first installed TWRP.
Thanks a ton!

Development forums are for DEVELOPMENT only. Please post in the Q&A forum next time.
Do a factory reset.
Should reset your phone to stock condition.
Sorry, I didn't specify. I'm also running a Custom ROM so that won't get me back to factory ROM

Seems like if you have a custom rom, you used a custom recovery to flash it, and if you can still get into TWRP (or whatever recovery you used) you can go to the "wipe" mode and do a factory wipe/reset.
