back to the roots :D revitalize my XDA orbit - P3300, MDA Compact III upgrading etc.

Hi!
My SGS2 is hardbricked (yes really full hard brick). So i need a mobile modem for my nexus 7. I found my old XDA orbit. now i want to update the firmware .... or whatever i can do that i can get as much internet speed as possible out of it. nexus 7 only got wifi and bluetooth. So my question: What is the best firmware to install on my XDA? It is on WM5 at the moment (slow as hell) I just need to take phone calls with it ... and connect my nexus7 to the internet

Using SX56 to connect to laptop to connect to gprs

Can anyone tell me how to use the GPRS on a SX56 as a wireless enabler for a laptop via InfraRed?
Thanks
IR Modem
You can find your answer (and much more) here:
http://www.myxda.com/XdaII/serviceandsupport/template/XdaIIHowToUse.vm
I was able to connect my T68i as a bluetooth GpRs modem to my tablet PC with a Anycom bluetooth card without any problems.
Using the same tablet I am able to bond the XDA II and ActiveSync using bluetooth.
I have figured out that I would have to create a Bluetooth modem on my tablet PC and then create a GpRs connection with the dial up number for t mobile GpRs in USA.
The problem is that in control panel of the tablet under modems if I try to create a new modem as the XDA II I would need software which I do not have.
Under modems in my tablet PC I only see:
Direct connection
T68i on COM 9
Can anyone help?

Unfortunately the other reply to this thread applies to the XDAII, whilst you have an "XDA I"... As has been discussed in other threads, the Windows Modem capability is part of some version 3 based ROMs, including the XDA Dev "Special Edition" but has not been a part of any version 4 based (WindowsMobile 2003) ROMs until this recent development of the German 4.00.33 ROM.
Are you using 2003/ROM 4.00.xx? If so, your choices are to downgrade to a vers. 3 ROM from a kitchen, or to wait until someone smarter than me figures out how to get the German Modem firmware into an English ROM.

A newbie needs your help

Hello,
I am a newbie with Rom-Updates.
I have a SPV M3100 with Orange-Branding. It is Windows Mobile 5 installed.
I want this:
- I don´t want to have a branding. A original HTC will be fine
- I want Windows Mobile Professional 6 on the device
How can I make this. It will be fine when you can help me.
Helloand welcome,
How much reading have you done on this forum so far? The wiki is a very good place to start.
It's really important that you read up as much as possible else you might make a serious mistake and damage your phone.
Feel free to come back with any questions after you have dne your homework.
All the best.

Download SoftSPL and copy it to your Hermes
Download the WM6 ROM in the WIKI for HTC (Shipped WM6 ROM link)
Connect your device via ActiveSync (hopefully you have a WindowsXP PC???)
Run the SoftSPL on your Hermes - your phone will go in BOOTLOADER MODE
Run the HTC WM6 ROM UPGRADE UTILITY on your desktop
Wait and PRAY ...
The job should be done in 10 to 25 min
You also could CID / SIM unlock your device first with HardSPL (Hermes_Unlocker_3a) but that would be permanently. SoftSPL works quite well and it is only temporarely!
Please, if you have no clou about what all that flashing and bootloader crap means: FOLLOW THE ADVICE IN POST 2 - READ THE WIKI !!!
BTW: even the HTC ROM has branding - its own HTC logos and they do not really look cool either! Next to HTC changes phone dialer skin and connection manager skin to an ugly green color - I am not sure if you would like that more than the network provider branding!
If you're new to all this flashing and tweaking I would recommend that you stick with your current network providers ROM and only upgrade to version 6! It might be quite difficult for newbies to get all their crap running again, such as MMS, WAP, GPRS and so on ... !

[Q] HTC surround / help me to decide if i have to upgrade a new ROM? or not?...

Hello people!
I'm testing this HTC surround i got today.
My questions are 2:
1- does the HTC surround IMPROVES the smooth performance on apps etc when upgrading a ROM? or using a custom one?. ..
2 - Below its my information from the about of the phone, can someone tell me if i "have to" upgrade this versions with a new ROM? ... or its the same and the phone wont change at all these days ....
os version 7.0.7004.0
firmware rev version 2250.09.10307.502
hardware rev version 0003
radio software version 5.51.09.06_22.30.50.09H
radio hardware version A.26.0.D4
Bootloader version 1.3.2250.7(111288)
Chip SOC version 2.2.5.0
I'm asking this because:
i own an iphone4. it works flawlessly and i see some jaggy animations on the HTC surround....
and i own a HTC HD2! with a WP7 ROM! and I THINK IT WORKS BETTER than the original HTC SURROUND ROM that i've from factory ....
THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!!
CHEERS!
Marcelo.
Future ROM updates may increase performance it depends on what kind of fixes they have made.
As for Custom ROM's, a well put together ROM will typically improve performance but decrease in reliability.
Looks like you haven't got the pre-nodo update, its 7008 were yours is 7004. Sync your device with Zune and it will ask you to update.
Sent from my Surround using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
thanks man! ill try that.
i just tried and the zune software says that my phone is up to date on 7004...
is there a way to make the update manually?
What carrier are u with?
Go to settings in Zune and check for updates. It should just pop up when u plug it in but since its not try that.

rather than using a custom rom , you could go for the nodo update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013610
It improves performance
I would hold off on NoDo the only nice thing abot it is the faster apps and faster marketplace (oh and app searching) but the gains are minimal

Cheesy update method
You can trick your phone into updating, all the way to NoDo if you'd like.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015131
Essentially:
1. Start Zune
2. Turn off Data connection and Wifi on the Phone
3. Connect the Phone with the PC (USB)
4. Start the update search in Zune
5. About 3 seconds later, disconnect your PC from the internet (Turn WLAN off).
6. Zune finds NoDo-Update. Press OK.
7. Connect to the internet again and install the update.
Worked great for me.

Network and WiFi problam on Desire HD

Hi , i have problam with my desire hd network and wifi !
some times mobile networks have no connection !
WiFi cant found any network but other phones can !
speed od EDGE connection is very slow !
i update my phone to 2.3
how can i slove this problems ?
thanks
Welcome mahdi
Are you running custom ROM or stock Rom?
If you running custom rom I would recommend changing your Radio and Ril. If you got OTA update from your carrier months back. People had trouble with wifi n later on they released another ota fix for wifi. If you haven't rooted your phone yet n feel flying free go to Dev section of DHD. It'll tell you every step what to do.
Can't get much help if running stock rom because you are chained lol.its the reality.
Hope it give an idea
Sent from my Desire HD
I had the same problem 4 months ago...
I delete all the usuary apps (it must be that someone had conflict with the rom :S) and when I restart the DHD, the mobile connection works good
P.D. Then I install all the apps again and no problems
