Unlock my streak, what are the alternatives? - Streak 5 General

Hi guys,
New to the forum having just spent a few pound coins on a streak, its locked to o2 at the minute but i want to use it on orange, i have searched online and found numerous places that will unlock it for £20+, just wondered has anyone got a tried and tested method from anywhere with a link if possible?
Looking forward to testing this out as to be honest never knew they existed until i was looking for a cheaper alternative to the SGN which is too expensive for me at the moment, i have seen all the custom rom stuff but not sure i am confident enough to do something like that, but all advice is welcome.
So anyway hello to all
Regards
Steve

Hi there,
Like yourself, my Streak is locked to o2. People around here said they have got their Streak's unlocked for free by emailing certain companies, even Dell themselves. This has not worked for me, even trying to sugar talk O2 hasn't worked!
R.e custom roms, it took me a while to try and comprehend things and sometimes, despite all the amazing work that people do on here, its not the most inexperienced friendly place. But eventually I got there, plucked up the courage to fiddle around and I haven't looked back since.
When things like "getting used to using fastboot" are said, it really is that. the more you try things the easier they get.

I'm totally scared of "bricking" my phone, i have asked o2 and they are sending me a sim card that i have to put £15 credit on and the make a call or send a text so it registers with them, then go on there website and fill out the unlock form, apparently it can take up to 7 days but then its officially unlocked.........so they reckon!!!!

Well to unlock you need a code, so not sure how a new sim would unlock it. Am I missing something?

That's because they need the phone to register on their network at least once, because as per their policy they only unlock phones that are active on their network. However, a lot of us did get our phones unlocked without being on their network! Heck, I'm not even in the UK! I sent multiple emails to [email protected] and after nearly two months of emails back and forth, I got lucky and got a guy who finally gave me the unlock code. I remember a lot of us getting the codes around the same time. I would assume it would be easier for them to give you the codes now, but there's only one way to find out, I guess! Email them the IMEI number. If they refuse to unlock it, wait a couple of days and send an email again!

O2 seem to have this fixation about not unlocking phones, well as i said to the customer services bloke i can understand a brand new phone not being unlocked, but why a phone thats not exactly brand new? Anyway as i had been through the whole online chat with an o2 guru who told me order a sim top it up to the tune of £15 and then fill out the unlock form, hey presto unlock code in 7 days, then i had an email to say they wouldn't unlock the phone as it wasn't registered on the network.....jeus i said i topped up £20 notes made a few calls sent a few texts and it still wasn't registered? Well then the customer service bloke had the cheek to tell me that i spoke to the o2 guru after i had topped up so it was my fault that i had basically spent £20 on a top up for no reason.....but ahhhh i had the chat transcript sent to me via email so i had proof this guy told me the procedure before i bought the top up, so then it all changed ohh well ok let me speak to me line manager he said, so 5 minutes later he comes back and says as a gesture of goodwill they will send me the unlock code like they are doing me a favour but still charging for lol, anyway suffice to say, i am waiting for the unlock code which they say will be here within 7 days, so guys if you want your streak unlocked from o2 persist with the harassment, just make sure you get the transcripts sent to your email as o2 are obviously a little economical with the truth!!!

i got a streak that had a cracked screen from a fellow member here...
after replacing the screen, and inserting my sim, i realize it's locked...
he said it's at&t...
i tried contacting a couple of people on ebay with the imei, and service tag too, but they returned my payment stating code not found...
the imei is clear, no issues.. is there another way to verify what network is it locked to?
i'm in india, so no way to check/verify t-mobile, at&t blah blah...
also, would spending 29$ be my only way of unlocking it?
thanks
:good:

i contacted [email protected] and this was the reply ii got...

got ripped off on site

hi folks, first post here. i tried to get my tbobile shadow unlocked by the site www.instantunlockcodes.com, and AFTER i paid the 49.99, a few hours went by and they emailed me back saying they couldnt unlock the phone.... wtf? so i have two options now, i can use another service (like imiecheck, or gsm father) or if any of you can unlock it, i will give you the login to the site, for the 50$ credit. its up to you. im starting to get a little pissed off about it though.

If you're still with T-Mobile or had an account with them, I'm sure you could get them to provide the Unlock Code.
I bought a used Shadow from eBay & the seller was kind enough to help me unlock the phone by calling T-Mobile & explaining to them that the phone needs to be used overseas with other GSM network for travelling purposes.
I got my Unlock Code for free in under three days.
Hope this helps.
Ya.. I got ripped off also, luckily it was only $7.00. Wireless unlocks.. beware..
I upgraded two lines with new shadows, one for my wire and one for my daughter. The wife found hers too complicated , so I called Tmo customer service and told them the truth. I asked them if they could unlock it for me, as my wife wanted to use her old phone... Two days later they sent me the unlock code.. now using my shadow flawlessly with the at&t network..
Instanunlockcodes.com is in ICELAND
The same thing just happened to me. Instantunlockcodes.com is a rip off.
I filled in the form and paid my money and about an hour or two later I got a message that they could not find an unlock code to work on my I335 Motorola.
About ten minutes later, my credit card company called and told me a fraudulent charge had been put against my card. I explained what I did and my credit card company told me that they are already on a fraud watch list.
They are also in Iceland. It was 2:30AM in Iceland when they charged my card so it is automated to just give you a runaround.
The only problem is, if they have my IMIE number, can they steal my phone number and charge against my phone account?
I bet there are Icelanders that are saying “STUPID AMERICANS” right now.
I sure do feel stupid.

Who has an unlocked X10a from Canada?

Hey guys, I'm wondering who has an unlocked X10 from Canada. I'm in Kingston, ON and I just got my X10 yesterday from Wireless Express. They're a certified Rogers dealer but when I got my phone, I couldn't unlock it. I have tried a lot of the unlocking services including mobileincanada.com, cellunlocker.net, some ebay dealer and several others but none of them work. All of the said they my IMEI wasn't in their database so they couldn't give me the unlocking code. So I'm wondering if there is anyone from Canada who has there phone unlocked could give me some advice. I'd like to know what store you bought the phone from cuz I think the problem is with my phone and not the unlocking service. I've heard that newer phones might not be in their IMEI database. I'm going to get a replacement or a refund so I can get it else where.
I got a phone from Rogers unlocked from ebay dealer
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280500425789&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Dealer name is fastunlock2010
I unlocked my X10a (Rogers) through MobileInCanada.com.
Not sure why your IMEI isn't recognized.
I got mine from Rogers and the guy there gave me this: calgarycellunlockers(dot)com. They even have the contact number but you can do it online.
Thanks. I just bought a new code for the X10 and they claim it's from the manufacturer, so it is 100% guaranteed to work. I hope it does. Thanks for everyone's help.
Is it me, or am I reading more recent messages about difficulties with finding unlock codes for Rogers X10a?
Did SE or Rogers change or are withholding the unlock codes from the third party service providers?
Xperia requires new sim cards from rogers.., my x10 didn't accept my 2year old sim card unless i have the SIM registry unlock code (sounds like that)..,
so what i did, i switched sim card, and im still using my old number.., ask a rogers representative on how to do it..,
i had a similar problem with the service's online not being able to unlock mine. turned out that the ebay seller provided it to me. but it ended up in my spam mail and took about 3 days to find. quite frustrating.
You may try Htccode, they don´t look for the IMEI, intead the peforme a USB cable and software combination and it`s really fast.

Jaime
Looks like I'm having no luck here. This is my second X10 I've tried and I bought the manufacturer's code that's guaranteed to work 100% but...it didn't. And I think I've tried the code too many times that the phone locked itself. Now it says "SIM card locked. Contact Network operator" whenever I try to enter the code. Help, anyone?

A software unlock should be the last resort.
I don't know which unlocker unlocked my X10a, but I purchased it unlocked.
I had similar problems with my old Ericsson Rogers cell that no one could get the code for. Stupid Rogers wouldn't provide me with the code even though the phone was almost a year old, and I was then with its sister network.

Cable unlock is your only option.
Do you know where I can get the cable unlock? Right now cellunlocker.net owes me money so I hope they have that service as well. Thanks for the info, appreciate it
Try having a local store or CL person do a software unlock, which shouldn't take long. The problem is that you would need to give them the phone and wait, and it will cost more than cheaper online number unlocking.
Maybe try calling Rogers and attempt to persuade the customer service agent to provide the unlock code since you're with Fido. You might be fortunate enough to get connected with a knowledgeable rep who is sympathetic.

Unlocode TROUBLES becarefull of these guys

i just want to let people know of some trouble i've had with an unlock company called Unlocode . I've used them twice. the first time everything worked perfect. the second time they couldn't get me a code. In the email they sent me stating that the they could not generate the code and that they would refund my money within 72 hours.
i bought the code on 3-20-11 and the same day i got a reply that the code could not be generated. it is now 4-18-11 and they never replied or tried to refund my money. i've sent 3 emails with no reply.
so i open a case on paypal 4-2-11 and on 4-9-11 they finally replied asking for my IEMI number. yet it is listed in the paypal transaction. i give it to them again thinking/hoping it will speed things up. i replied the same day about one and half hours later. from that day till 4-18-11 i didnt get any email or response from them.
so i esculate the claim and finally the start emailing me. They ask for my IEmi number yet again. they don't even bother to look it up or find any info on it in thier data base from last time they asked for it. they just respond with a threat.
so now these guys are threating me, that if i don't close the dispute on paypal they will lock my phone and say it was stolen.
-- Listen.we never have any problems with code.we can send a disble code to make that phone useless and locked again iif you don't close the paypal case. You have 48 hrs to close the case before that phone becomes useless and reported lost stolen. --
Is this legal and can they really do this?
they advertise 100% that they would get me the code yet in the email they sent me they couldn't supply it.
i just want people to know about this and hopfully help others chose a different unlocker.
if they would have refunded my money like they advertise i would not have any problems using them again. but with this much trouble ill just stay away from them and any other company associated with them

As far as I'm aware, only you or someone from some type of authority position (police etc.) can get the phone locked. My guess is that they're just saying they'll lock the phone so you don't take the money back.
If I were you, I'd email them back and tell them that you have been advised by your provider that it is not possible for them to have your phone locked. Then, tell them if they don't supply you with an unlock code in 24hrs you will escalate the dispute on PayPal further, and suggest that you'd rather not do this as it may give them a bad name.
If you're really worried, check with your provider 1st, but I'm 99% sure they can't get it locked just because they have the IMEI number.
Stick to your guns and don't let the bullies beat you.
yea im with john on this one, they're trying to scare you off. If they DID somehow lock your phone, they would be commiting an offence, unlawfull access of an electronic device, or some such, tantamount to hacking.
Be sure and keep a record of all and every thing you send and recieve to/from them.
(Id be tempted to still make a complaint once they have refunded you.)
I started to post here lastnight but I was to sleepy and had to get some sleep. AnywaycI am with John and Sam here. The only ones that can lock hour IMEI number andcreport it stolen is someonecwith law enforcement or your provider. Even then you have to contact them to have this done. If they do manage to lock your IMEI number and report your phone as stolen they have commuted a felony and can be prosicuted for such.
If I was you I would contact my carrier and make them aware of the threat they have made so if they follow through on the threat you can have them prosicited cause your carrier will have proffered you did not request this action.
I am like Sam I would continue to persistent this even if I got my money back. Also like John said contact those dirty crocks and tell them you know it is unlawful for them to take such an action against you. And that you have talked to your carrier about it so you have documentation. Then tell them that if that take such action you will have them prosicuted for there actions.
Post back here with any updates.
thanks for all your help. ill update as things go along.

[Q] URGENT !! Dell venue pro not switching on(dead) ..Error while flashing

URGENT..Please help !! :fingers-crossed:
The device was initially freezing a lot ..So I happened to change the sd card to a 16 gb microsdhc from a 8gb one..But it still was having the same problems..Then I got to know about the EM app in the phone and I by mistake updated the touch firmware in it.
That is when I decided to flash the phone. Now while flashing the phone the phone froze all of a sudden(as already mentioned this was my original(earlier) problem). And the command prompt through which I was flashing the phone showed an error,so I removed the USB cable. From then,I'm not able to even switch on the phone(Not even able to see the Dell logo).
And please give me a solution about the touch firmware that I updated by mistake(That rendered the phone unresponsive to touch)
And there is no light even in the keyboard.
Thank you .

AFAIK, once you do the touch screen firmware update via EM, your phone can't be fixed via USB flashing anymore. From what I've read the unbricking process here on xda won't work at least. I'm not sure if a RIFF box would do it with what we have on the DVP so somene might want to chime in on this?
Does the computer recognize the phone even?

Have a google at riff box/jtag man. I think someone here was doing something with one to try and revive his bricked DVP. Have a seach and contact him maybe?
And if all else fails, someone is selling a DVP system board off the bay for $40. I have no idea about the details of the listing so check it out yourself before jumping the gun. AFAIK, it even comes with a 16GB card And make sure it's worth the $40 for such an old phone... I regreted purchasing a glass for $50 to fix another cracked glass DVP when you can get one for not that much more if you wait for deals...

(the DVP is quite easy to tear down BTW, just search the forums for a service manual)

I don't know buying this mother board would certainly assure me that my dvp would get revived back.
And also would need the perfect tools to open up the phone ...right? Would you suggest me to open-up the dvp.(the warranty is already void).
Although I'm pursuing bachelors in technology,I've never opened-up a phone .. I don't want to regret it

Hey..just saw your post..Have you bought the system board? Is the phone now working properly ?
What kind of tools did you use ?
How did you open up the phone ?
Thanks
Hi, i bought my system board yesterday, tracking number says it will arrive at my house by monday so i'll let you know how it goes.. swapping a mother board out always fixes system errors which bricking would categorize under.. it wouldnt fix things like phone not charging or screen problems but definitely will fix cpu issues..

Oh hey mykalogist, just PM you. Didn't know you already bought the baby. Good luck with it! :victory:
And yes, SANTHOSHGODSPEED, I can't say for sure it'll fix whatever is up with your phone, but if it was mine, I would give it a try for that price. It seems very probable since so much is on that DVP board like MK said. And don't worry about taking open the phone. Just remember that it's already broken. Being physically broken further ain't so bad right?
I've taken open a few phones and the DVP is really one of the easiest. Just grab the service manual from here and peak through it before you attack it (or youtube it first). The hardest part I find is really just taking the back cover off (fingernails and guitar pick help). After that, it's easy breezy.
And I think all you need is a couple of Torx screw drivers. I think a T4 and T5 but I can't remember exactly. Tweezers or a small pair of pliers help for taking out the microSD card.
UPDATE!! :good:
Ok so i recieved my system board today from RAKI computers on ebay thanks to Aleounge's great find.. i installed the system board and my phone works flawlessly.. yay its alive again!!.. i only have two bad things to mention however.. before i do let me point out that you will be getting a totally new phone new IMEI, service tag and E sevice number so your old phone doesnt exist anymore... ok my bads, the service board i got is locked to a network i have no idea what it is i'm still pending a find i'll be checking out my EM here shortly to see what network it is.. i tried both T-Mobile and AT&T sim cards and none of them were accepted, its asking me for a PIN/Unlock code. And remember your phone is now a totally new phone so when you call dell for this unlock code they will ask for your phone info which will be listed under a different owner so they wont give it to you until you provided them your purchase invoice from RAKI Computer. Oh so thats my update, phone works and booted up again and i was able to install updates up to Tango but the phone will not accept my T-Mobile or AT&T sim ... Thanks again Aleounge and i hope this helps someone.. Remember to Rep me one

Hey ..thanks for the update ..
So according to you the phone is working fine and its booted-up and that you are able to update it to tango ..
But you are not able to use the phone with any mobile carrier...ie you are not able to make or receive calls..is that right ?
So you would not advice me to go with that option ?? or do you?
How's the tango update ? Is there much of a difference to the start screen ? Are you able to resize the live tiles ?
And if you do like me to go forward with that ..Can you please tell me how you disassembled and assembled it ?
Looking forward to you reply

Yes exactly right.. I found out via my EM that the system board i bought is currently locked to Cincinnati Bell Wireless(CBW).. Because of this it will not accept my T-Mobile Sim or At&T.. The good thing about this is that you will get a new Service Tag, IMEI and E Service number Sticker with the system board.. This information will be blank as if you purchased a new phone. So all you have to do is call Dell Mobility Support.. They are gonna ask you for this info then ask for a copy of your Purchase invoice as proof.. When you send them this information they will register then new system board which is an entirely new phone to your name and give you the Unlock/Pin code to Bypass your sim error.. I havent messed around with tango much so i dont know the new features yet.. Hope this helps..
Can you check what the rom version is?
I havnt heard of a Cbell locked VP before (it's possible I merely overlooked this though)
It's EM -> Phone Information -> SW version.
I assume it'll be something like
Code:

So all you have to do is call Dell Mobility Support.. They are gonna ask you for this info then ask for a copy of your Purchase invoice as proof.. When you send them this information they will register then new system board which is an entirely new phone to your name and give you the Unlock/Pin code to Bypass your sim error.. I havent messed around with tango much so i dont know the new features yet.. Hope this helps..

You see that's the problem for me ..I'm from India and Dell representatives don't know a thing about this phone(they don't even know if this phone was ever launched in the market)..And at the same time I can't call the US helpline(as they would advice me to call the indian helpline;which is of no use..)..So even if I get this phone assembled I won't be able to make calls with it..(Unless I know someone in the US)
Yes it was CBW-US.. and it was locked to that network.. i called Dell and you are right they dont know anything about anything.. i waited on the phone for hours and didnt get any good news from they just loop holes.. But i found this guy that knew everything about the Dell Venue pro, sent him my imei and the network it was locked to and got the phone unlocked, i only paid 16$ on ebay and he's located in china where the phone was manufactured so i gave him my trust and it came through.. He unlocked the phone in literally 10mins.. i've been using it Flawless ever since..

Hey you guys, make sure to give "[email protected]" a try first with the unlocking (search the forum for more details). I've unlocked at least 4 DVPs and for the last two (very recent), I don't recall even mentioning it was locked to TMO. I think now that the DVP has hit EOL, Dell doesn't care too much about finding out who the original owner is (they asked for the first couple I tried unlocking, but I never actually mentioned it as I got them used and I don't even know the owners) or the other specifics. Just give them a try first since well... it's free! If it's a no go, go with what MK suggested?
A tip I think might help is to mention you're using it for business and will be leaving the country shortly. I also brought up how much I liked the phone

[email protected] wont help you because the system board you get from ebay will be unregistered.. I tried and got a response saying the phone is blank(unregistered) in their system so i need to call the mobility support to register the phone then reply with the phone info.. I called Mobility but theyre so unprofessional, i had to call back 5 times to get with someone who actually knows what they were talking about and still didnt get the phone registered as theyre telling me i had to wait 2-3 days and some run around.. so i met this chinese guy who said he knew how to unlock it in 10min, i sent him the paypal $16 and phone was unlocked right after.. Dell Support sucks.

Simcard stopped working - no network (weirdest problem ever)

Out of the blue (I did nothing to the phone) I lost my network connection - no calls, no internet.
My phone is unlocked. I've been using it for months without problem.
The phone is originally from Videotron but I unlocked it and been using it with Bell for months.
Now the weirdest thing: If I put my simcard in other people's phones, it works. If I put other people's simcards in my phone, they also work, but only as long as they're not from Bell. Somehow, Bell simcards don't work on my phone anymore, for no apparent reason.
I went twice to the Bell store, bought a new simcard and no progress. I get the message: Unregistered SIM.
I've never heard this happening to anyone before.
..
That's the thing. I bought the phone a few months ago from someone. But he gave me receipts and everything. He had the phone on videotron. Of course my first thought was that something fishy is going on and that it got blocked. So I asked Bell to check the imei and they said it was clean. Also if it was blacklisted on Bell, it would be across all providers in US/Canada and other people's simcards wouldn't work.
Bell said there's not much they can do. They said that since I didn't buy the unlock code from the original manufacturer (Videotron), it's like I hacked the phone (isn't it the same unlock code though?) so they said that can cause glitches.
I honestly have no idea if that's the case but I have no other explanations, so maybe they are right.
However I had so many phones in the past and unlocked them on the internet and NEVER had a problem. What's also pretty weird is that the phone worked for like 3 months without any issues. And yesterday when it stopped working, I was sleeping, I didn't flash any roms or update the software (it was already the latest version) so I have no clue what could have triggered all this.
Today I tried rooting/unrooting the phone, installing different roms and then going back to the latest version of the stock rom and nothing helped.
..
I'm not sure if you misread what I wrote but the phone is clean. It's not blacklisted etc.
Sometimes it can take ages for the list to be updated (blocked imei numbers)
but if it just happen like u say then its been blocked or network blocked
have a look here or other sites
http://www.imei.info/
..
Wow guys you were right....
The phone is now on Canadian national blacklist and it doesn't work with any other simcard anymore. I guess it took some time for it to go through the system.
I can't believe I got scammed. I was super careful. I verified everything before buying. The transaction was obviously in cash. But it took place in his own apartment and I had a friend with me.
When I bought the phone, I took his entire bill in PDF format. This includes his address, his account number, his full name, all of the numbers who he messaged or called. I went twice to his apartment today but he wasn't there. I talked to the neighbors and gained a lot of info on this guy. Printed his picture from Facebook as well.
I called his company, Videotron, to report his fraud, but they didn't seem interested. They said I can either contact this guy or go to police. I insisted on talking to their security or legal department and they said they're closed today (Sunday). I will call them again tomorrow. I'm pretty sure he reported it stolen and then claimed insurance to get a replacement for $150.
This stuff should get him in big trouble, right?
I found a similar story in the news and it happened in the suburb of the my city, Montreal.

I hope I have a chance to get my money back or my phone unblocked.

He's not going to get in trouble, and your going to be out of money. Tough lesson to learn.
..
How do I sue this guy? I've been at his place 3 times yesterday and for a few hours today since 7 a.m. Still waiting. He won't answer his door. How will he be served with a court notice if he's hiding from people? I will spend the time that's needed to bring him to justice. Not even a matter of money for me.
Got the phone unblocked! Have an appointment with a court clert to go over my lawsuit on Wednesday. Did lots of digging. The guy got all of his lines and services blocked. 20 people with blocked phones are looking for him. I have a suspicion he's involved with credit card fraud.

sounds like a lie to me.
I wanted to give an update to people who tried to help me before the situation is fully resolved and I can release all the details. If you're gonna imply that I'm lying it's better to delete this whole thread altogether.

I don't know if anyone cares at this point but it was a big ordeal for me so I feel like it needs to come to it's conclusion. The phone is permanently unblocked because I was able to provide the phone company with the receipt of the purchase from the individual. I got a mail today and my court date is set for March 24. I sued him for $999
