Who has an unlocked X10a from Canada? - XPERIA X10 General

Hey guys, I'm wondering who has an unlocked X10 from Canada. I'm in Kingston, ON and I just got my X10 yesterday from Wireless Express. They're a certified Rogers dealer but when I got my phone, I couldn't unlock it. I have tried a lot of the unlocking services including mobileincanada.com, cellunlocker.net, some ebay dealer and several others but none of them work. All of the said they my IMEI wasn't in their database so they couldn't give me the unlocking code. So I'm wondering if there is anyone from Canada who has there phone unlocked could give me some advice. I'd like to know what store you bought the phone from cuz I think the problem is with my phone and not the unlocking service. I've heard that newer phones might not be in their IMEI database. I'm going to get a replacement or a refund so I can get it else where.

I got a phone from Rogers unlocked from ebay dealer
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280500425789&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Dealer name is fastunlock2010

I unlocked my X10a (Rogers) through MobileInCanada.com.
Not sure why your IMEI isn't recognized.

I got mine from Rogers and the guy there gave me this: calgarycellunlockers(dot)com. They even have the contact number but you can do it online.

Thanks. I just bought a new code for the X10 and they claim it's from the manufacturer, so it is 100% guaranteed to work. I hope it does. Thanks for everyone's help.

Is it me, or am I reading more recent messages about difficulties with finding unlock codes for Rogers X10a?
Did SE or Rogers change or are withholding the unlock codes from the third party service providers?

Xperia requires new sim cards from rogers.., my x10 didn't accept my 2year old sim card unless i have the SIM registry unlock code (sounds like that)..,
so what i did, i switched sim card, and im still using my old number.., ask a rogers representative on how to do it..,

i had a similar problem with the service's online not being able to unlock mine. turned out that the ebay seller provided it to me. but it ended up in my spam mail and took about 3 days to find. quite frustrating.

You may try Htccode, they don´t look for the IMEI, intead the peforme a USB cable and software combination and it`s really fast.
Regards
Jaime

Looks like I'm having no luck here. This is my second X10 I've tried and I bought the manufacturer's code that's guaranteed to work 100% but...it didn't. And I think I've tried the code too many times that the phone locked itself. Now it says "SIM card locked. Contact Network operator" whenever I try to enter the code. Help, anyone?

A software unlock should be the last resort.
I don't know which unlocker unlocked my X10a, but I purchased it unlocked.
I had similar problems with my old Ericsson Rogers cell that no one could get the code for. Stupid Rogers wouldn't provide me with the code even though the phone was almost a year old, and I was then with its sister network.

Cable unlock is your only option.

Do you know where I can get the cable unlock? Right now cellunlocker.net owes me money so I hope they have that service as well. Thanks for the info, appreciate it

Try having a local store or CL person do a software unlock, which shouldn't take long. The problem is that you would need to give them the phone and wait, and it will cost more than cheaper online number unlocking.
Maybe try calling Rogers and attempt to persuade the customer service agent to provide the unlock code since you're with Fido. You might be fortunate enough to get connected with a knowledgeable rep who is sympathetic.

If you're still with T-Mobile or had an account with them, I'm sure you could get them to provide the Unlock Code.
I bought a used Shadow from eBay & the seller was kind enough to help me unlock the phone by calling T-Mobile & explaining to them that the phone needs to be used overseas with other GSM network for travelling purposes.
I got my Unlock Code for free in under three days.
Hope this helps.
Ya.. I got ripped off also, luckily it was only $7.00. Wireless unlocks.. beware..
I upgraded two lines with new shadows, one for my wire and one for my daughter. The wife found hers too complicated , so I called Tmo customer service and told them the truth. I asked them if they could unlock it for me, as my wife wanted to use her old phone... Two days later they sent me the unlock code.. now using my shadow flawlessly with the at&t network..
Instanunlockcodes.com is in ICELAND
The same thing just happened to me. Instantunlockcodes.com is a rip off.
I filled in the form and paid my money and about an hour or two later I got a message that they could not find an unlock code to work on my I335 Motorola.
About ten minutes later, my credit card company called and told me a fraudulent charge had been put against my card. I explained what I did and my credit card company told me that they are already on a fraud watch list.
They are also in Iceland. It was 2:30AM in Iceland when they charged my card so it is automated to just give you a runaround.
The only problem is, if they have my IMIE number, can they steal my phone number and charge against my phone account?
I bet there are Icelanders that are saying “STUPID AMERICANS” right now.
I sure do feel stupid.

You walk in and tell them you want an unlock code for your HD2 and they go out the back and make a call to their contact at the code supplier who contacts the network operator database and requests the code. If they have the right credentials the code is sold to them, they sell it to the man in the shop and he sells it to you.
The shop may let you think that "they" have unlocked it, but, it's not possible to do that with some boxes and wires in the same way as for other makes and models. At least not as far as I know. If the code is genuine and accepted by the phone then it's unlocked and there are no side effects.
BUT, before you do that have a look at
http://unlock-now.com/
I used them and the cost was minimal and I had my code in 13 minutes.
As an aside I take it the you have a non UK voda model as all the UK Voda kit on contract is already unlocked.
However, I guess you already checked that?
In a lot of cases with the right cable and trade software they can unlock phones that follow certain standards. Thats why you can have it unlocked without them needing to put another sim in the phone like you have to when you get a remote code.
i have tryed several websites that do unlocking, i jyst get email next day sayimg sorry thay can't do it... and refund money.
i think is becouse after HTC service thay changed IMEI, and even thou i give websiiets new number thay cant find it...
i complaind to HTC said that i can't unlock it and O2 says its not thair phone (coz IMEI different) and thay alredy unloced my HD2 (this was not 100% true
but HTC agreed to send me an unlock code and after week of waiting i got it this morning

Xperia Play not reading any simcard - No service/no simcard?

I just received my brand new Xperia Play yesterday.
It was purchased from ebay and was brand new in the box.
It was advertised as an unwanted upgrade as well as being unlocked.
However, yesterday I tried my international simcard which did not work, vodafone simcard and even after taking it to carphonewarehouse & orange trying a further 2 simcards, it fails to read ANY simcard regardless of company.
I have just a week to solve this problem since I am on holiday in the UK and have to leave nexr weekend.
Based on the above problem, what do you experts think the problem is?
I tried factory resettings, default settings, etc, still not reading any simcards.
The phone obviously is no good to me since it cannot make/receive calls/texts.
Aside from this problem, everything else is working perfectly.
Could this be a hardware issue or software? How can I figure out the problem.
Since time is a factor I don't have time to send it back and wait for repairs or a replacement.
Should this fault be quick & easy to solve I don't mind paying £20 or so if it can be fixed, beats waiting weeks for a replacement.
Any ideas you guys have please feel free to give me any ideas to try to get this phone reading sim cards.
Thanks guys/girls...
EVERY time I turn on my phone I get the following message ''please insert simcard and restart your phone'' even though the simcard inside the phone is working perfectly fine...
It sounds like a H/W fault... contact the seller and/or paypal

I did indeed contact the seller and am awaiting his answer...
Is the fault easy, quick and more or less cheap to fix from a local mobile phone shop?
If I was to download & use a custom rom, could this possibly fix the problem?
In the past I've had problems with bluetooth/wireless lan refusing to work even though everything else did.
After trying another rom it then worked.
This makes me wanna try another rom before returning the phone and waiting weeks for a replacement.
The seller however got back to me saying it was all working before, he has no idea why it's not reading simcards and to return it should it not work.
I will update the rom and report back.

Flashing a new ROM won't repair the problem. What country was the seller in when he sold it to you? Maybe it's still sim locked. Try to unlock it using a 3rd party.

It was a UK seller to a UK buyer (me)
I've tried 4 different simcards of all different networks, not reading any simcard.
The phone appears to be unlocked according to the seller.
Can this issue be easily & cheaply fixed in a local mobile repair shop?
if its not been bootloader unlocked and then ota bricked then it sounds to me like its blacklisted in other words reported lost/stolen or fraudulant and so pretty much useless to anyone in the UK

Hmmm, how can I find out WTF is actually wrong with the phone?
The LAST thing I wanna do is return it, and then waiting ages for a replacement or refund.
Is it worth me taking the phone to a mobile repair place and asking them to look into this?

dont think its sim locked since its saying please insert sim card if it was locked more than likely itll say please enter network unlock code
does sound like a hardware issue do you have the battery cover on when your trying it?
i know my play when the battery cover is off the sd card wont work etc maybe its the same with the sim card
sure i dont have to ask your putting in the simcard correctly right?
shame nonetheless it might be more expensive to try and fix it since parts are not easily available
The sim card works without battery cover... If you inserted the card in properly... It should work.... If not then refund it.

Best thing to do is pop it into an orange shop and ask them to check the imei on the blacklisting website, if it comes up blocked you know for certain. If it not then it could be a hardware issue but i doubt it. Good luck

This is a good idea.
Anyway I've just come back from a few mobile repair shops.
After checking the phone, the engineer said it appears to be blocked and will only work outside the country.
Should this be the case, it's not a major issue since I live in Dubai. I happen to be in London for a holiday.
The phone was bought from ebay, and if the handset is indeed blocked then the seller is taking the piss since he simply mentioned the phone being an unwanted upgrade as well as unlocked!
I will contact the seller now and see what he says.
it will work mostly everywhere except the uk
This is the only problem with buying phones off eBay, it happend to my sister twice. The good news is that it will work in other country's if it's ota blocked, as it just means that the imea number don't work with UK networks as they have a UK database with all phones that have been reported lost or stolen.
The problem with eBay/PayPal is you only have so many days to file a dispute, so the seller waits till times up then reports it lost or stolen then claims on there insurance, or in some cases take out a new contract just to sell the phone on eBay then not pay the bill. There's a chav lad near me that pays ppl to take out contracts and pays them so much for the phone, what these ppl don't realise is there ruining there credit rating.

Yeah, I've had quite bad experience using ebay even when buying from ebayers with high & perfect feedback.
Anyway the seller got back to me and swears it is a genuine phone that was claimed from an insurance company and is unlocked and sim free.
He said he tried 2 different sim cards with the phone before advertising it.
My question is how did it previously work yet now it refuses to read any sim?
I may take the phone to an alternative shop and ask them to look into this.
Could it be the sim/sim reader is faulty or damaged and therefore not reading sim cards?
if it was blocked by networks it would just scan for networks and not be able to register on one, it wouldnt say insert sim.
This has been badly flashed IMHO and to my knowledge there is no fix
Go into Service Menu and check Simlock Status:
Dial this:
*#*#SERIVCE#*#*
There are also different Service Tests. For me this problems sounds like the "faulty" method which was used to fix the OTA-Brick on unlocked bootloader!
If it is this problem, your phone will be simlocked (not network-locked!!!) to ANY sim card. And you have to unlock via Software -> Omnius/SE-Tool etc. etc.
Regards
Thanks everyone for your support.
As of now I have no idea of what the problem is.
All I can say is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is in a repair shop.
It will cost me £45 and on tuesday it should be repaired regardless.
Should they be able to fix the item, great, otherwise if they are unable to fix it then I will get a refund.
I will get back to you lot on tuesday with the results!
My poor 24 hour old brand new Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is in for repairs already and it's still got all the front and back protectors still on...
I've had the simcard reading thing happen to me a few times. After a few reboots, it would be fine again.

Unlock my streak, what are the alternatives?

Hi guys,
New to the forum having just spent a few pound coins on a streak, its locked to o2 at the minute but i want to use it on orange, i have searched online and found numerous places that will unlock it for £20+, just wondered has anyone got a tried and tested method from anywhere with a link if possible?
Looking forward to testing this out as to be honest never knew they existed until i was looking for a cheaper alternative to the SGN which is too expensive for me at the moment, i have seen all the custom rom stuff but not sure i am confident enough to do something like that, but all advice is welcome.
So anyway hello to all
Regards
Steve
Hi there,
Like yourself, my Streak is locked to o2. People around here said they have got their Streak's unlocked for free by emailing certain companies, even Dell themselves. This has not worked for me, even trying to sugar talk O2 hasn't worked!
R.e custom roms, it took me a while to try and comprehend things and sometimes, despite all the amazing work that people do on here, its not the most inexperienced friendly place. But eventually I got there, plucked up the courage to fiddle around and I haven't looked back since.
When things like "getting used to using fastboot" are said, it really is that. the more you try things the easier they get.

I'm totally scared of "bricking" my phone, i have asked o2 and they are sending me a sim card that i have to put £15 credit on and the make a call or send a text so it registers with them, then go on there website and fill out the unlock form, apparently it can take up to 7 days but then its officially unlocked.........so they reckon!!!!
Well to unlock you need a code, so not sure how a new sim would unlock it. Am I missing something?
That's because they need the phone to register on their network at least once, because as per their policy they only unlock phones that are active on their network. However, a lot of us did get our phones unlocked without being on their network! Heck, I'm not even in the UK! I sent multiple emails to [email protected] and after nearly two months of emails back and forth, I got lucky and got a guy who finally gave me the unlock code. I remember a lot of us getting the codes around the same time. I would assume it would be easier for them to give you the codes now, but there's only one way to find out, I guess! Email them the IMEI number. If they refuse to unlock it, wait a couple of days and send an email again!

O2 seem to have this fixation about not unlocking phones, well as i said to the customer services bloke i can understand a brand new phone not being unlocked, but why a phone thats not exactly brand new? Anyway as i had been through the whole online chat with an o2 guru who told me order a sim top it up to the tune of £15 and then fill out the unlock form, hey presto unlock code in 7 days, then i had an email to say they wouldn't unlock the phone as it wasn't registered on the network.....jeus i said i topped up £20 notes made a few calls sent a few texts and it still wasn't registered? Well then the customer service bloke had the cheek to tell me that i spoke to the o2 guru after i had topped up so it was my fault that i had basically spent £20 on a top up for no reason.....but ahhhh i had the chat transcript sent to me via email so i had proof this guy told me the procedure before i bought the top up, so then it all changed ohh well ok let me speak to me line manager he said, so 5 minutes later he comes back and says as a gesture of goodwill they will send me the unlock code like they are doing me a favour but still charging for lol, anyway suffice to say, i am waiting for the unlock code which they say will be here within 7 days, so guys if you want your streak unlocked from o2 persist with the harassment, just make sure you get the transcripts sent to your email as o2 are obviously a little economical with the truth!!!
i got a streak that had a cracked screen from a fellow member here...
after replacing the screen, and inserting my sim, i realize it's locked...
he said it's at&t...
i tried contacting a couple of people on ebay with the imei, and service tag too, but they returned my payment stating code not found...
the imei is clear, no issues.. is there another way to verify what network is it locked to?
i'm in india, so no way to check/verify t-mobile, at&t blah blah...
also, would spending 29$ be my only way of unlocking it?
thanks

How to Unlock Sprint S10 / S10+ / S10e That Was Previously Unlocked and then Relocked

Hi there all! I'm posting in the hope this information might help others. I purchased an unlocked S10+ from eBay, but it had a bad motherboard. I sent it in to Samsung for warranty repair, and when they sent it back, they had locked the phone again. I wasted a bunch of time calling Samsung, T-Mobile and Sprint to no avail, until I discovered the international travel department at Sprint. They were able to unlock the phone again for me, and I can confirm that another XDA forum user was able to unlock their phone using my advice. In order to do this, they did have to confirm that the phone had been previously unlocked by Sprint, which they verified by looking up the IMEI number in their system. If you have a phone that was not previously unlocked by Sprint, this method will probably not work.
I called this number: 888-226-7212
That is the Sprint International department. They handle problems for people who are traveling overseas, like making sure they have the right plan, issues with connecting to foreign networks, and unlocking phones for people who need to use foreign SIM cards. I explained approximately as follows, "Hi there, I'm not a Sprint customer, but I'm looking for your help because I purchased a Sprint branded Galaxy S10+ that has a clean IMEI, is not stolen, is not blacklisted, and was already previously unlocked by Sprint. My problem is that my phone had a bad motherboard, and I sent it to Samsung for a warranty repair, and at the factory they had to put in a new motherboard and reinstall the software to factory settings, and unfortunately in the process they locked the phone up again."
She was very helpful, looked up my IMEI, confirmed that it was not blacklisted and she said, "I see that phone is already unlocked." I said, "Yeah, that's the problem... It was already unlocked by Sprint, but now it's locked again because of Samsung, and I don't know what to do, but I need it unlocked because right now I just can't use it." She said, "Yeah, that's not good, and I understand why you're distressed. I want to help you, can you please hold?" So then she had me on hold for a while, checked in on me a couple times, and after about 20 minutes, she finally came back and said, "I spoke to my technicians and they sent a "lock and then unlock" command to your phone. It could take up to 24 hours, so just be patient."
The next day, I inserted my T-Mobile SIM card and I had to reboot a couple of times, but VOILA, it worked!!! I can't believe it. Give this a try, be very nice, of course, and let me know below if it worked for you! If it doesn't work the first time, try again and see if you get a more helpful person. The other person who followed my advice said they had to call 3 times before they finally reached someone who understood the problem and was willing to help!
Good luck!
You can use samtool to unlock s10, note10 sprint, it support unlock directly via usb cable !
