HSPA+ on GT-N7000. T-Mobile refarming? - Networking

It may be a miracle. I was using the International Samsung Galaxy Note and was only receiving edge on T-Mobile. I learned why this was and hoped it would change. About three nights ago exactly I was trying to use my data which was edge which did not work at all. I was not sure why. Then the following night I was at a dinner party in Cougar Mountain Drive which is in the Bellevue area. All of a sudden I turned on my data and guess what I saw. A big H+ staring me back in the face. I was so overjoyed I could not even begin to explain. But alas, I could not longer see the H+ when I returned home in the Seattle Area. Is T-Mobile finally refarming? We can all hope can't we? What do you guys think?

Probably Tmo rolling out 4G in select areas.
You can always apply the Tmo radio to get 4G

that's only with the at&t version. I believe OP was referring to T-mobile expanding their network bands to the ones used by at&t

That's awesome advice....not. Are you trying to get him to brick his phone?
This is an N7000.

T-Mobile has been working on standing up the 1900 frequency, which is the same band AT&T uses, and the band included in all international phones. They have been using AWS which is the 1700 band. This is why all new-ish T-mobile phones are pentaband. You must have been in an area that they already converted over. It is supposed to be complete sometime in 2013.

I have a similar story. While visiting in Concord, CA. Downtown where the Old Spaghetti Factory is: I was able to get HSPA+ on my Infuse i997. Looking forward to the refarm taking place all over the usual spots.

:| You didn't bother reading the rest of the thread did you? It can only be done on the ATT note because ATT was preparing for their merge wit T-mobile. "Do some research."
Its the same reason that the Skyfire can be flashed to t-mobile.

Post it on airportal.de because it is the only way to track it besides HowardForums.

I understand that T-mobile has re-farmed 1900 MHz for 3G service in the Boston, MA area.
Is this service available to T-Mobile pre-paid PAYG customers? On the $3/day plan?
Is there any requirement for a GBA SIM? Or any newer SIM?
Are there any specialized APN settings?
Any specialized phone settings? "Force" WCDMA 1900 MHz only from the Service Menu?
I have an international un-locked Samsung Galaxy S II (I9100), and a 7 year old T-Mobile pre-paid SIM.
I have been able to use GSM data (2G: GPRS/EDGE) as recently as July, 2012.
My visits are brief so I use the $2/day plan but would like to be able to use 3G.

current reports,
no specific deals with TMO regarding network sharing,
i'd doubt AT&T will lend the networks without a fair price

I know it possible for you to be able to change atrix automatic custom network (which is at&t) to work with t-mobile. Youtube doesn't help cause all i see is bell, sprint and metro pcs. I know it something with the radio. But i need your help thanks.
Do you have any friends who have tmo that you can ask their apn settings? That's my suggestion.

If you're not locked into a t-mobile contract I suggest going to straight talk, they have a SIM for AT&T version phones and that should get you 3g. Or go for h20 wireless which should get you full 4g speed.

Sprint variant of this phone

I am currently a Sprint customer, and while I am not very happy with their coverage, the rumor is they are building LTE all over the Tampa Bay area, and I should be covered by their LTE by year end (if the rumored schedule is true).
I am considering going to AT&T who does NOT have LTE in my area north of Tampa, BUT they have the HSPA+ in my area.
One of the things that AT&T always brags about is that you can do simultaneous data and voice with AT&T phones, but CDMA (Sprint/Verizon) cannot do that simultaneously. I heard that some CDMA phones have an additional antenna which will allow for simultaneous voice/data.
So here are my questions:
* Are my understanding of simultaneous voice/data limitations correct?
* Do we know if the Sprint variant of the Note 2 will support this?
All of the new cdma phones do voice and data including note 2 example the gs3 the evo lte and any new lte phone going forward

That entirely depends on where you are or what market you're in. T-Mo is in the process of moving all their HSPA+ service from the 1700MHZ band over to the 1900MHZ band in order to make way for its future LTE services. Most markets are still on 1700. If you're in one of those markets still, then the Int'l Note 2's HSPA+ will not work (because it does not support 1700MHZ HSPA+). On the other hand, if you're one of the lucky ones in a new 1900MHZ T-Mo service area, then you're all set to go!

Can't u wait a week for one from Tmo that'll work with all their hspa+ networks and future proof for lte with actual warranty for the same price? Heck you waited this long already what's another week for lte and warranty?
I'd wait personally. The T-Mobile one should have LTE too so you can take advantage of that once they start firing up those networks.

Testing Maxx on Tmobile/MetroPcs

Currently thinking of leaving Verizon. I decided to give T-Mobile/metropcs a try... I can honestly say that I will be leaving sooner than later. Even though I can't access their LTE network their h+ 42.2 network is plenty fast... And at only $40 unlimited everything I don't think I can pass this deal up.
Anyone else out there on another carrier besides Verizon? What plan and how much does it cost... Verizon is killing my pockets... since my wife stopped working to stay home with the kids, looking for ways to save on every bill...

Yeah, I'm in the same boat - no T-Mobile LTE, but do get HSPA+. I'm on the prepaid $30 100min/Unlimited Text+Data for T-Mobile. Unfortunately T-Mo coverage here is only decent along major roads, and the H+ speeds are not very consistent block-to-block. I'm probably going to just cancel the prepaid service since I only get Edge at my desk at work, which doesn't help me conserve data usage on my Verizon device, which was my intention.
My H+ speeds have ranged from about 400kbps all the way to 12mbps... potentially faster than my Verizon speeds on LTE. Just upsetting that the service is still too spotty to use it as my primary carrier.
I am here in ga and it is pretty good... Not Verizon good but good none the less... I just don't know what am going to do when I leave Verizon. Their service is top notch...

Well like you said, sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Do you have unlimited on Verizon? How much data do you need? I know that T-Mobile will give you unlimited but I'm thinking that if you don't need unlimited, you could switch to T-Mobile for now and then switch back to Verizon later on when finances are a bit more stable.
As long as T-Mobile serves your immediate needs, then it should be fine.
Yeah don't need unlimited. Its just a means to help get the bills lower. I just hate to give up Verizon. If I want to upgrade I will be forced to pay full price. But I also wanted the nexus 5 so I give it's a win win

I believe it does have a 1700/2100 bands supported (per GSM Arena), and I do not think I'm in a re-farmed 1900 area. I had a T-Mobile SIM in a Sprint HTC One, DNA, and Lumia 822 and none were pulling in H+, just Edge or 3G.

The Maxx will not pick up 1700/2100 areas. Only the refarmed 1900. However it does support lte band 4 which will probably have its switch thrown later when vzw starts using their aws spectrum. It's not active now as far as I can tell because I can't get any better than H+ in Chicago which is entirely refarmed tmo and att doesn't trigger it either. My inkling is that vzw has that part of the radio turned off at the moment until they launch that portion of the network.
Image attached shows what the phone does support with the VZW radios.

Just because the chip supports it doesn't mean that it's active or usable. Look at the nexus and its lte if you need an example. My post above yours show what moto intends to allow for this device. It "could" support more but the bands aren't active.
What I'm curious about is if we can get this ***** unlocked... Can we pull the radio files from the Tmobile X to unlock the 1700/2100 and AWS LTE bands (which the phone does support but again, are inactive at the moment). We would lose the cdma bands but for the people switching to tmo... I don't think they'd care.

Galaxy S5 Sprint Spark kills data + voice calls at the same time!

SEE POST 30 TO CHANGE YOUR PRIORITY BAND COVERAGE!
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/...ark-4g-network-problems-phone-calls/index.htm
I asked the store rep if Sprint is working on a fix, but we all know the Sprint reps are usually useless answering these questions (by this I mean at the store they are only trying to make a sell). Her answer was that Sprint is working on a fix that will fix all phones with an OTA. My next question was is this a hardware or software problem which she responded that it is a tower problem. I looked online for an answer but all I could find is that Sprint responded with a weird kinda lame answer that didn't really say if they are working on a fix or not. On Sprint's Forum a rep says they are, but they say a lot of things on the forum that aren't correct also. This seems to be a very frustrating situation actually.
Does it matter to you?
It does to me, but at the same time it isn't a function I use all the time. My only reason that it has helped me, is that it has greatly helped me with work a few or more times.
I am kinda forced to buy a new phone for framily / billing reasons... huge bill without it. I am sorta thinking that I will upgrade the phone but at the same time keep my S4 handy in case I hate the S5. I went to the store today and I have to say it actually surprised me with it's new version of Touchwiz- even though I usually hate Touchwiz.
The only real reason I can see me upgrading is the camera and battery algorithms for power saving.
I call crap!
I've had none of these issues personally, and you can just turn off Spark.
I spoke with sprint today and they said it would be fixed when spark opens up nation wide.

Spark is crap!!!
The reason you can only use one at a time is the triband antenna in the phone it can only use one signal at a time. It may be fixed once sprint starts using voice over LTE. Plus spark is just a unborn baby right now, not even full deployed. The sprint map says spark coverage is in certain areas on the sprint coverage map on the website. This is not true, the sprak network is 2.5Ghz radio head on the the already existing towers(have not be built or not on-air yet). According to sprint Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung towers are the only companies that are contracted to work on spark networks. Ericsson is looking like they will not be apart of the upgrade. This means there will be 1/3 of the sprint market that will not have spark. Sprint has the the companies split by markets and only two of them have contracts to build in their area.
Here is an article that will cover a good about of that info.

NSN will be the contractor for the Areas served by Ericsson for NV 1.0. The reason you can not get SVLTE is because they do not have multiple pathways for 1x and LTE. Here it talks about it. The S5 was not the first phone to have this happen, All tri-Band Phones will most likely be without SVLTE from now on.
S4gru has a few pages explaining it better.

Now that Sprint has wifi calling it seems like it would be easy to use the same service over LTE. Then 1X voice wouldn't be needed and you could use data+voice simultaneously.

Where can u find what areas/towers has this completed on? I'm really thinking about upgrading but don't want to be with out 4G when I have strong 4G in my area with my S3.

Having sprint spark doesn't mean your going to have best speeds unless your connected to band 41 or band 26 which is the newest bands. With those speeds you have there i wouldn't be surprise if your connected to band 25 which is the 1900mhz which yea its loaded with majority of sprint customers which is going to give you real slow speeds.
Here some speed test on band 41 i took yesterday morning when i was heading to go play some basketball.

Where do you live? And also what i did was i went into my settings ##data# and made band 41 as my primary. My list is #1 band 41 as primary, #2 is band 25 and #3 is band 26 since its not active here in Miami yet but band 41 is doing great so far as you can see.
