Got my x10 in February of 2011. First smartphone. Started messing with custom ROMs as soon as I brought it home since it came with 1.6. I went through a period where I was flashing a new ROM every few days or at least a few times a month. Settled on the Prime X ROM from Oodie a while back. I hate stock firmware. This is what I have now.

My problem is that I get an upgrade in October, and I was very excited about it until I actually looked into the phones that are available through AT&T. I don't want to pay $200 for an upgrade so the S3 is out. I am trying to decide between Moto Atrix HD, HTC One X, Samsung GS2 Skyrocket, and Xperia Ion. My wife has the Ion already and I like the phone, but not really sure when there will be any custom roms for it. Atrix HD is looking pretty well locked down and same with the One X unless I can get an older one. Very frustrated right now and I guess I am just complaining so feel free to ignore me if you wish.
At this point I feel like just hanging onto my x10 for a while and seeing what develops. I will also be interested to see how my wife's Ion handles when it gets ICS.
Also thinking of just doing the upgrade, selling whatever phone I get, and buying a Samsung Galaxy Nexus from Google. Only problem with that phone I can see is the camera, but 5MP isn't really that bad and I can just get the wife to take all the pics when I am with her anyway.
Oh yeah, I also hate not having a removable battery.
nice story, well from the rom your running I'd say your better off with the htc one x(just what i think)
If you shop around you can find the Galaxy S3 for $99. Radio shack, Wire fly, Best buy etc. You can have them price match the other.

Hey man i reccomend just sticking with your x10 maybe try a little ice crema sandwhic goodness? id wait for the xperia s if i were you lots of developing for the ss,u and sola and acro s i tinkk!!
All good advice. Thanks for that.
I think part of it may be that when i got my x10, there was already a ton of development on this board. 2.1 was out already, then there was the excitement of waiting for the Gingerbread release and the ROMs that came after that. These are all new phones except for the Skyrocket. Maybe it will pick up once they are out longer.
I do like the One X. The board for that phone is weird though, in that there is all of this development, and then you have people with newer devices or who did the upgrade, whose phones have been locked down again. Only things I don't like about that phone are the lack of an SD card slot and non removable battery. Although when I think about it, I have 1GB (465MB usable) internal memory and an 8GB flash drive in my current phone and i don't feel like I have a lack of space now.
Anyway, i still have a month and a half before I can make a decision so who knows? I have been trying out some of the ICS ROMs on my wife's old x10 and if I find one I like I might flash it on my phone.

I feel like a sap. I signed a 2 year contract and bought a Fender MyTouch. I have been wanting to replace my blackberry Pearl flip with a decent phone and I thought I could settle for the mytouch with boosted ram but I just feel like I spent money on an out of date device.
don't get me wrong. I like it. and I love android like I knew i would. and this device is leaps and bounds better than what I thought of touch screen devices before android phones came out. but is it worth keeping?
I was bothered by the fact that I learned I could have gotten a Nexus One for the same price. and that tmobile wouldn't refund my phone. so I looked up how this phone resold. surprisingly well! so I put it on Craig's list for 350 and to my second surprise I found a buyer.
now being the packrat I am. I am having second thoughts. I hate to let it go being stuck with tmobile contact prices. and I hate the idea of going back to my Pearl Flip.
the device I really want and have wanted since before it released in the US is the TP2. it has been out of my price range but with 350 I'm trying to score one on ebay in that budget. not so easy.
should I sell the phone, switch back to the crapberry, hope to score a cheap Rhodium, and have little money to pay bills?
or should I stick to my investment, be strapped for cash till for a bit, and learn to love the phone i have?
do you think rooting the phone flashing some roms, the new android upgrade supposedly coming for it, or time will make me love it?
or should I have listened to every review that says even with the memory boost and gimmick it's still a mediocre device and should now take the offer and try for something better?
I spent about 200 on it and getting 350 still puts me out about 90-110$ due to high contract prices but gives me a chance to get a TP2.
this is an lame first post but let me know your thoughts.
sell it and get a nexus one. then, in 5 months, kick yourself and buy the NEXT badass htc phone.
look how much faster they are already.
awesome.
postscript
i'm buying a mytouch tonight, for much less than the list. we'll see if i like it. if not, it's resale on craigslist - quick, and buying a nexus.
i think i'll like it though.
My $0.02
Sell it. So many great phones that will come out this year.
HTC HD2 is coming out in March 24th on T-Mobile, but the Windows Mobile OS might not be your forte.
Also, there's the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10
The rumored Nexus Two (aka Motorola Shadow) might have hardware keyboard.
Rumors of HTC Scorpion 1.5Ghz processor at the end of the year.

Sold it. Cant afford a Nexus One still but i am getting a used Rhodium.
Want an Leo but it will be awhile before i can afford it. That motorola shadow looks gey. The scorpion looks awesome and sexy but i think the Leo is sexier.
Seriously if HTC put a slideout rhodium keyboard and a few of other bells and whistles on a Leo and called it a Touch pro 3 i'd sell my kidney for it right now.
Thinking of giving my hero to the wife what phone should I get next?
Money is not an issue.
Looking at Dell streak, galaxy S and Desire.
Have thought Abt going to the darkside but like
Open source of android
If money is not an issue, then go for the iphone 4, I meet yesterday a mate that works apple, he has one, and I was using it last night, the pictures taken with are great, and no signal problems at all, we where inside in a pub, I tested the phone for 30 minutes, doing everything with it, multitasking etc, no probs at all. Once my contrat is finished, I will get one myself.
Another Hero
Or maybe a Desire but not an Iphone because the OS isn't as modifiable than Android..
I'll wait for nexus two...
or some new device with 2MHz processor and gingerbread!
I leave iphone 4 to conformist people
I am leaning toward the galaxy as I want a bigger screen
The streak might be a step too far
Ip4 looks nice but not fussed about the OS and I don't like censorship
NOT iPhone 4!
iPhone 4 is one peace of big ****. It can't even keep its connection to mobile network.!? wtf! lol
Dell streak is a really good phone but I personally would love to have a HTC Evo 4G...
And plus it is ready for Gingerbread...
Dell sounds like a good option. I personally won't buy a HTC next time and won't recommend HTC to anyone since what happened to my phone after their recent firmware update. It took so long to roll out and then almost bricked my phone making me to switch back to the old version of firmware. No decent phone manufacturer will send out an update that fails so bad without any support.
the best advice I can give to go a place where you can try these devices, and than make a decision.
I'm sure I will buy a Desire after the Hero. I tried and I love it, big screen, fast, has 2.2 soon and very responsive : )

BGR has published a picture of an upcoming HTC device destined for verizon. From the leaked specs it sounds like a real high end device. Anyone have more speculation on this device? Could be the first real device that tempts me away from my nexus. So far all the latest devices have not sold me on build quality, looks, and feel. This thing looks like the nexus taken to the next level!
Of course this is BGR so it is put up next to an iphail.

What the hell is that nasty ass iphone doing next to that beautiful device?
GRRRRR, I hate BGR so much.
Anyway, looks like an Evo for Verizon, nothing more.
All these devices are looking good, but personally I won't be upgrading until the next line of processors come out (1.5 GHz etc). No reason to switch to another phone if it has the same amount of power. That'd be a sidegrade.

that's the same sentiment that i feel, with the unknown time frame of Verizon's android releases, who's to say this thing wont be coming with the latest and greatest processor? In all reality it probably is just the Verizon version of the Evo, it sure looks a lot nicer than its sprint branded potential relative.
In any case, its the first new handset i have seen that actually physically looks on par or better than the nexus.

htc glacier is on my wishlist, what with a possible dual core, hellz yeah
What happened to the HTC Ace or Desire HD, a GSM Evo.
Unless its revolutionary in terms of processor,GPU etc, then im not too hopeful on leaving my N1.
Damn good looking, though. More of a comparison of a Desire and Evo mating IMO.
Can I just say that this phone is great. Samsung really made me happy. I have some of the issues on these forums but consider them quite minor given the benefits the phone allows me.
It's by far and away the best phone i've used. And i'd like to think I have played with/owned most of them, except the latest nokias.
For all the troubles people are reporting there aren't enough of us saying how great it is.
Lets not forget though that the people on this forum also need thanks as they're the ones helping to fix most of the SGS2 troubles some are reporting. Bravo.
I feel that the troubles people are experiencing are minor. Which is great as it means Samsung really put on a good show from day one if all people are complaining about are what I would consider minor usability issues.
At this rate i'll be moving from recommending HTC's latest handsets as the top tier to Samsung.
Agree
By far the best phone I've ever used. Before I got this I had Nexus S for 2 months which I sold for a LG Optimus 2X which lasted just 5days. Lots of positves & the few negatives are pretty minor. A bargain too as I got it on the O2 contract with the cashback deal.
Seems to be quite future proof as well, looks like I might be keeping this one for the full 2yr contract.
this thing blows away everything else to an exponential degree and also agree i can use this for 2 years and am very happy keeping it insured
this phone is great
agree the potential is mind boggling cant wait for roms and themes etc to start
Nice try. .
Best phone that i've ever owned
GPS works great
wifi works great
screen looks great
form factor is awesome
solid construction
best performing portable devices i've ever owned
It makes me want to have sex with it.

I am afraid the vibration feature is too weak due to the miniature form factor.
Also please be careful not to get stuck in the Micro SD card slot, I have heard enough of these stories from my surgeon friend.
yeap agree with everything the op said.this phone dominates.i was going to keep my sgs as a toy but after my sgs2 arrived i didnt touch it again haha.i remember reading all the tech sites, everyone worrying about dual cores chewing battery etc.all i have to say is that my batt life is the same doing the same things it just does it faster.cheers sammy.4th product in a row i bought from them.(wave.sgs.tv.sgs2)
I could not ordered the damn Nexus 4...so was lurking around for alternative. Today I saw new Droid DNA. It seems like a good alternative matching up everything Nexus 4 can do but has more like 440 ppi or 1080 x 1920 resolution, wifi 5ghz, and support LTE and GSM unlocked. The resolution alone kick Nexus 4, S3 LTE i9305 and iphone 5 butt already...so now I have a dilema
When comparing the Nexus 4 to DNA & S3 LTE (i9305), it seems to have true google experience only over DNA and nothing much else. All 3 are quadcore and 2GB ram.
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/co...-4,Samsung-Galaxy-S-III/phones/7498,7531,6330
Even though they seem to have same hardware, somehow DNA outperform Nexus 4 on benchmark...not sure why

So now, I'm thinking if I can't get Nexus 4 by end of Nov, I'm going to grab a Droid DNA instead since it is gsm unlocked. What do you guys think?
I think it might be down to the thermal throttling that everyone is posting about, wait for some Kernel development and i believe the N4 will start to hit it's stride.
I am convinced that it all has to do completely with the Linux kernel they're using. It needed a couple more weeks of development and unfortunately, it wasn't ready for prime time but I am sure that the XDA community will make it kick the competition's ass within 3-4 weeks of steady development.
As always, it's all about what you want, want the AOSP experience along with a MASSIVE (understatement of the year) development community with great, quality hardware?
I don't need to bother selling you on the Galaxy S III, it's a great phone.
or do you want the DROID DNA which will be locked down, much more expensive but in return, you get the much higher resolution screen.
You need to ask yourself, do the pros of the DROID's screen outweigh the additional $300-400 cost? For me, not at all. It's new tech and it's never good to be an early adopter with HTC (as I learned with the HTC Thunderbolt). Not to mention we've hit the point where these phones are often more powerful than most PCs and next year's focus will be 1080P displays along with battery tech meaning the next Nexus will probably be everything you want plus more.
