ASUS TF300T JB root how to that works...... - Transformer TF300T General

Can anyone show me the correct way of rooting my TF300T I just exchanged it so its new in the box. I did the CWM to the last one and it bricked it HARD. Im assuming it has the Jb update already on it. And in what order do I put the steps in to get ROOT, RECOVERY, SU. Just looking for a good way not to brick it again thanks in advance.:fingers-crossed:

1st off I doubt your new unit "has the Jb update already on it", as it's likely been wrapped in it's packaging longer than 4.1.1 has been available.
2nd, use the search function in the future

OK so if it can't load it, that generally means it can't find it. Your command prompt says you were in root of C drive. Is that where you put the blob file?

now the problem is getting into the recovery it just sits there it says booting recovery kernel image how long will it take to get there any help would be great.

I used the cwm recovery so I can't speak for others, but mine opens in about 5 seconds after selecting the RCK selection. Remember you need to upgrade to jb before you try using the jb recovery or it will not work.

Here's a guide...
http://android.modaco.com/content/a...-dump-system-and-boot-from-a-standard-device/
biggest problem should be if the is not root access on the device...
First of all just try to do:
adb shell
#(on device) tar cvf /mnt/sdcard/system.dump.tar /system
(/mnt/sdcard might have to be modified.. try to do a "mount" , there should be some sdcard there somewhere..)
if the tar command doesn't fail, then just do:
adb pull /mnt/sdcard/system.dump.tar
Just write if you have any problems...
Thanks..
im not familiar with all the terms of rooting but wasnt fastboot absent from all of the locked phones moto launched? Isnt seeing fastboot on boot meaning the bootloader is more accessible?

yea the manual said it wouldnt unfortunately. thanks for the pics though and the confirmation on flash. that sucks that it doesnt have it but like i said before most sites have html5 variants and just knowing flash is on the way is enough for me.

Try installing the flash found here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BVCTVEED it's supposed to be compatible with Tegra 2 processors

How to Root the ASUS Transformer

This thread is dedicated to helping you root your ASUS Transformer. Either method may not work if you are using a device with serial number 'B70' or above.
If you have updated your Transformer to 8.6.5.21 using the latest OTA, please install the downgrade-fix below, 8.6.6.19, to successfully use Razorclaw.

Unbrick Your Device / How to use NVFlash
In the unlikely event you brick your device, don't worry, it can be saved. It's very easy. Please download NVFlash and any ROM flashable using NVFlash above, and follow the steps below.
Put your device in APX mode: Connect your device to your computer via USB and power on the device holding both the Power and Volume Up buttons for about 3-5 seconds. The screen will remain black.
Install the required drivers for APX: If you haven't installed them already, find your “APX” device in Device Manager and update driver manually, pointing it at usbpcdriver in the nvflash.zip.
Prepare your ROM: Download your chosen NVFlash ROM and place the system.img, recovery.img, and boot.img in the nvflashtf directory. "/nvflash/nvflashtf/".
Start the process: Run download.sh (Linux only) or download.bat (Windows only) to start the process.
NOTE: NVFLASH CAN ONLY BE USED ON AN SBK1 DEVICE. PLEASE CHECK YOUR DEVICE IS COMPATIBLE BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS METHOD.
Razorclaw's tool is the easiest way to root and I think Prime does allow to OC (its in the Prime Tweaks options...)

Mad simple.
---------- Post added at 03:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:50 PM ----------
This is a very well thought out thread with a great layout. However, the Razorclaw app and Recovery Installer app method is much much much easier. No computer needed. No drivers or cables needed. Just your TF and a connection.
These 2 apps need to be added to the reference thread. The info there is outdated.
that was an older method..razorclaw is more convenient,no pc,no cable.IMO there isn't needed a tuto for root, because is too simple...install an pak...install anotheer one to have cwm...that's it!!
Thank you all for informing me this information is now out of date. It will be updated soon.
nothin' mate,it is very easy now with that!the only problem, not for me,is the future asus's ota that can brick the device if we return to stock and upgrade from asus....
Why worry about an OTA update when the devs will have an ICS build out before ASUS?
infact for me it isn't a problem, but i red that for some people is bad don'r receive ota asus anymore.personally i go with revolver, until fabio released an ics build!

can you specify that? you say, it is not always possible to flash a stock rom and then recieve ota updates? let us suggest, ics comes out from asus. then i am not able to switch back to stock and get the ics update?

My understanding is that once you are rooted any unroot method should work to bring you back regardless of the model number. I haven't had the need to revert back. I also have a B90 and am rooted with CWR. There are two threads about unrooting in this thread that people claim success but have yet to figure out if anyone had a B90. I'm assuming soon people will try to unroot now that a lot more people probably own a B90 model.

Hi guys! I was playing with my transformer today, trying to get the new JB update and I came across a hidden app called "Firmware Update Utility" accessible by tapping several times the "Pad EC version" or "MobileDock version" entries in "About tablet". Here is what it looks like:

So, basically, you take the file from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840397. You put it on your SD card and remember the location. You direct the firmware updater app to that location, and you press update. Easy.

Anyone tried this? And do you use the two edited 7z files or the original unedited file from the OP of that thread?

I think the two 7z files are the single file from the OP. They're just split up. You open 7z001 (or whatever the file is) and extract it with 7zip, and 7zip should unzip both files and reassemble them into the single file from the OP.

Thanks a ton, you answered my question asked on another thread and no one wanted to answer. Just got this tablet last week and everything is way different than my s2.

Yeah, that's been known for a long time lol.
Google do it for all the different versions.
Could be for asus to test out new camera, dock etc firmwares.

have anyone tried this method to downgrade from JB to ICS?
you can download the ICS .30 firmware here: http://www.asus.com/Tablet/Transformer_Pad/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/#download
(choose Android, scroll down and find .30, make sure to download the right SKU/country (US, WW,...)
maybe we can use this to downgrade without unlocking or rooting our tablet, basically we can downgrade "legally" lol

A - What does this have to do with this thread?
B - It won't work anyway, as after applying the .30 firmware you'll still have 4.1.1 installed, as the new kernel won't allow itself to be overwritten.
C - rewatch

Just dl the ww30 and will try in a minute. Would be fantastic.
Maybe this app has some rights to overwrite the Loader? Dont know. We will see.
No luck. Wont find anything. had the original zip, unpacket zip, blob, and the dlpkgfile on the internal space.
But when the error message comes it say something like External dir, so maybe say have to be on an external sd. Don´t have one, so someone else has to try that out.

So I finally found the courage to ROM

Hello XDA. I'm a new member here, thought I've been reading posts for a while before I could decide which phone to get.
I was really stuck on the 6P so here I am with my two days old Nexus and I'm loving it. (Feels like my next phone after this is going to be a Nexus, that's how awesome it feels)
The battery on the other hand is not what I expected, I don't have any battconsuming apps and it gets me through the day but I would like better battery life.
So I keep reading about flashing roms and kernel's. And I have no idea what is what. But after deciding I want PN + ElementalX (alot of people getting awesome battery with this combo I've heard) I started reading step-by-step guide how to do which gained me a bit of confidence to flash a ROM and kernel on my phone.
So I turned around, grabbed my computer, went for the USB cable and realised I don't have type-c on my PC. How do you guys do it?

The device should of come with a USB A to USB C adapter.
Mods can close down this thread, I feel really stupid.
Thanks for having me taking an extra look in the box, guess I was super excited about the phone I forgot to look for more than the phone and the charger.

That's your guide I've been reading and tend to follow when I'm going to put pn on my phone.
Just wondering a couple of things since I'm a total Noob.
What is TCH19L? And if I want to install a ROM and kernel I need to follow all steps from 1-8?

MHC19I is the latest official build from Google. To install a ROM you need to unlock your bootloader, install TWRP recovery, and then install the ROM and kernel. Only those sections.

Steps 1, 2, 7 & 8?
Should I do an EFS Backup? Or is there no way that my EFS partition becomes corrupt?

Yes, and step #3 if you want to decrypt your device too.
There are very light chances that your EFS partition may get corrupt. For safety sake, make a backup of EFS partition, and store it on your PC.

Ok I'll go for the safe before unsafe since I barley know what I'm doing. Adb finds my device but fastboot does not. USB drivers are all up to date. May it be caused that all my USB ports is 3.0?

If that would be the situation, even ADB wouldn't detect your phone. Anyhow, fastboot commands only work in fastboot mode.

I held down power + vol down, open'd CMD as been told in the C->SDK->platform tools. And when i enter the command fastboot devices it just skips down one row. So I skipped and wrote Fastboot Flashing unlock and it says < waiting for any device >

Then it's probably the drivers that are causing the issue. You can contact me on Hangouts if you like.

Finally got PN & ElementalX on my 6P and loving it so far. Phone is running cooler than before is the first thing I noticed. Let's see how battery life is after a day or two of use.
Thanks to DJBhardwaj for helping me fix what was wrong and why my phone did not connect and to Heisenberg for his easy step-by-step tutorial ? ?

Glad to see you got it all up and running. Sorry I wasn't here to help through the whole process, had to go to bed, I'm in a different time zone to most folks here.

Sorry for that. I didn't had the time to explain it all in words. So at that very second, the best solution I could find was to help personally. The information is already here, people just need to search.
