Stuck at Motorola logo when trying to reinstall CM10 on Defy - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi - I was running CM10 but have been stuck at the logo since I tried to install CM10-20120817-NIGHTLY-mb525.zip (I don't think mixing it with a change of Vsel settings was a good idea).
Now I can get to the Bootloader 9.1 screen and can see RSD Lite V5.6.4 on my laptop.
When I try to load 4.5.2-109-DHT-22-fixed.sbf I says the phone is being rebooted but only the Motorola red logo shows and I get the message 'Please manually power up this phone'.
From here I've tried mushing the volume rocker and wiping everything - and installing the latest build CM10-20120825-NIGHTLY-mb525.zip but every time it just stalls.
I'd be very grateful for any help to get my Defy back up and running! Thanks

what did you actually flash with that fixed sbf btw?

your best off going back to 2.2 if you can downgrade reflash 2.2 then reinstall 2ndinit and then cm10

Thanks - sounds a good idea. Will 2.2 still be on the phone or do I download it?

well firstly download the 2.2 sbf for defy of your choice then simply flash it via RSD lite

Unfortunately I seem to have chosen the wrong Froyo - a T-Mobile one... seemed like a good idea at the time.
Anyway, I can't see the Defy in RSD Lite now and in fact the only sign of any connection with the computer is that the white LED comes on sometimes.
I can't get the Bootloader to show any more either so I may have hit the end of the road.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Sorry but I had similar issue earlier and I thought I bricked my phone for life but did you try clicking volume down and volume up button at the same time?
This should show the battery status and you should be able to flash an SBF of your choice normally.
I had some time ago similar problem like you seem to have phone just stuck at Red M logo.
I had to flash the same SBF again and this time it worked.
The first boot takes longer but we must be patient and not unplug the phone from PC.
Just sharing my own experience and it may not be really helpful.
I hope you get your phone fixed as I have experienced the frustration of holding a bricked phone and for few hours I thought I went through he'll as I almost encountered a dead end.
Good luck.
Now I am running CM10 and runs quite smooth.

stuck on JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf (2.1)

hi guys, having major issues here.
i'm on JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf, a t-mobile 2.1 rom. i have rooted with an old version of superoneclick because 2.1.1 wouldnt work, i've installed sndinitdefy 1.4.2 which all goes fine.
the problem comes when flashing any froyo 2.2 sbf, none of them work. In RSD at the reboot stage it just says PASS rather than rebooting, and it sticks at the motorola screen. ive tried with 4.9 and 5.x RSD.
i literally dont know what to try next. how can i get onto a froyo rom?
ive tried flashing straight from 2.1 to a CM7 and PAYS rom which didnt work either.
everytime the sbf fails im forced to flash back to JORDN_U3_97.21.51.sbf, which always works fine.
please help
Try 2.3 gb using nandroid + fixed sbf may work n did u wipe b4 n after flashing??

if your on tmobile 2.1, try updating thru settings and download the update ota, or root phone then update via zip, which I think is somewhere in the dev forum. Root first then install 2init.
E. Try redownloading your sbf
Got a Headache? It's all in your Head.
how come some sbfs are 160mb and others 16-17mb?
have you got the link for the tmobile zip??
thx
i did try wiping between roms
if i were u i wouldn't update to 2.2.2
2.1 is much more better and less bugs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140839
could be good.
hope it helps.

Flash the JDGC_U6_2.1.3.0 SBF
Then root with SuperOneClick and proceed as per the guides.
Thank you, Jalal-jap, Thank you God!!!
Oh my god!
Thank you soooooooo much Jalal-jap.
Many thanks also to dlhxr for bringing this to xda and to d4d9 on mfunz for finding this gem.
My phone is fully restored to 2.2.2 froyo!
I haven't checked camera because of possible flash burn out mentioned in dlhxr's post but battery and all other functions are now fully working and I have a phone signal again!!!!
This definately looks like an original motorola build and is very responsive & smooth. All be it most of the menu's are in Chinese.
At last a solution to all those bricked defys at the bottom of drawers, lets see what the developers can do with it to make further improvements on the defy.

OK now for the good stuff.
I followed the guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1807899 and it works but see below for observations.
I haven't repeated the instructions below so read the other post this is not a guide.
ran superoneclick and it took much longer than before - it reboots twice so don't disconnect until its finished.
ran 2ndint old version - 1.4.2 and installed 2nd init no problems - had earlier problems with latest 2ndinit in that it installed but i never got the blue led to boot into recovery, possibly due to the state my kernel and boot system were in but the older one definitely works.
rebooted into boot menu vol down @ blue led
cleared user data, cache, devit cache
installed cm10 zip from sd card
rebooted and then realised i hadn't recleared cache, opened recovery again on boot (@ blue led)
cleared cache and rebooted again.
chinese boot screen logo came up for about 30 secs (dont panic) then the spinning CyanogenMod wheel for a while then it started jelly bean!!
All seems fine except I dont have a battery icon at present and the red led is illuminated (thinking about it I accidentally wiped the battery data when clearing the davik so this may be my bad!)
Never used jellybean before so gonna have a play, try overclocking / undervolting again for a while then post back.
I`m one big happy bunny right now and thanks again to all of you that helped directly or indirectly to get me to this point

to tidy up and give pointers to anyone else that ends up on this thread from a search.
The battery ? icon and red led issue has now been fixed using the red lense fix for cm10. A bit strange as I have a green lense defy but presume its the red lense / defy+ kernel in the chinese BL6 rom that has caused the issue.
I originally installed the 2013 cm10 2nd boot daily over the bl6 froyo, but then reflashed using 2013 daily cm10 1st boot version to see if it was 2nd boot version problem but no difference.
As that problem is fixed I have overclocked to 1200Mhz and the phone is working much better than it ever has.
battery is lasting a full day which it often didn't using stock at 800MHz so the latest build is obviously much more efficient.
One thing I noticed after flashing back to the 1st build rom is that my wifi signal is much weaker than it was on the 2nd boot version but as I have now set everything up and got the phone set up as I want it I wont change back for a while, it works and that's the main thing.
my settings are:
25vsel1 @ 300mhz
42vsel2 @ 650mhz
60vsel3 @ 1200mhz
threshold set at 90%
very stable, no hangs or reboots, cpu mflops 1 core = 30.1
Quadrant full benchmark results = 1560
good enough for me!!
No other issues found as yet.
Thanks to all who helped once again - hopefully I can pass it on in the future.

[Q] HELP! - Messed It Up

Hi,
Hope someone can help as I've exhausted Google trying to find a solution. I've tried to flash my Milestone 2 but it failed big time and now wont boot just shows the motorolo logo. I'm trying to use RDS Lite to push a stock rom back on the phone but every time it tells me it can't switch to fastboot mode and i've tried taking out the battery and holding varous key combinations whilst putting the battery back but wont go in to fastboot mode.
I've also tried to get into the recovery menu but I get as far as a white triangle with and orange exclamation mark and a little android, but again every key combination i've tried doesn't seem to work.
If I could get either one to work I should be able to recover my phone and stop the wife from killing me
Thanks in advance of any help
Have you tried going into download mode on your device and using odin to reflash the rom safely+get boot images etc just incase.
Also you should find if you extract the rom 5-4 packeages. Use them all if 4 but if 5 google it for i dont know. dont use one package unless told by person who gave you the rom. If that dosnt work do a factory reset/hard if factory wont work

thanks for the replies, but the link you gave me thiagomtl is now blocked on the downloads plus gmaster1 i've tried a few roms but get the same message regarding fastboot
You don't have to go into fast boot mode. There is no fast boot mode in MS2 unless you have a DEV phone.
You have to be in bootloader mode. The key combination for that is power + up arrow key.
Flash the sbf using RSDLite. If the phone does not boot. Go into android recovery using power + 'X' key. On the '!' mark and android bot screen, you need to press @ key (if you are on Froyo) or vol up + vol down (if you are on GB).
This will give the recovery menu. Wipe data and reboot. That should do it.
Again thanks to all that replied got my phone 95% works the only thing that isn't working is the wifi as when you switch wifi on it keeps trying to start then just says error. Any ideas?

Please be more specific on what build you are trying to install and what kind of defy you have (defy red lens, defy green lens, defy+).
Defy red lens and defy+ are no different, just that the latter has different battery and capacity. Green lens SOC defy is different and can only use froyo kernel builds (GB kernel builds have camera problems).
Defy Red lens: Can take Quarx CM9 builds from http://quarx2k.ru and flash. You can as well use quarx cm9 defy+ builds (GB kernel)but you need battery fix for battery to work (you can search CM9 thread to get this, otherwise just reply to me and will attach next time).
Defy+: Can take defy+ builds of Quarx and flash.
Defy green: Can take Epsylon CM9 builds and flash.
Enjoy flashing!! Thank me if I had helped you

Well I have defy with green light (mb525). I just install bootmenu in it and then install "CM9-ICS-MR1-120305-jordan" in it from quarx another link (I think it was froyo kernel). when I restart my phone It was hang on boot logo (pic is attached)..
Now the big problem is I want go back to CM7 or other 2.3 froyo but when i go to the bootmenu (the bootmenu i had installed before delete, i dont know why), the (install from zip) option not showing. it is just showing update from zip , cache wipe and format.
Now please let me know how to solve the problem. Thanks
Hi, seems like you are entering to the wrong recovery.
Does the blue led blink before the boot animation? If then, press volume down during that blink and you should enter the CWM recovery. If not you've possible overwritten the 2ndinit. (Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong)
good luck

Are you pressing volume down during blue light?
If yes and anyway you access the recovery menu that you said (just "install update.zip") then maybe you will have to flash a clean .sbf image and start over with rooting the phone, install 2nd init...
Just a question: from which recovery have you flashed the ROM last time??

Flashing an SBF should fix your problem.
check the link. You will need the .SBF, RSDLite and to boot the phone in "boot loader" mode, it is holding volume up while you power on the phone.
Take care the SBF you will flash since they might be not downgradeable I mean, if you flash a GB SBF you will not be able to get froyo anymore.
read a lot before to do anything and let me know how it goes!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Spica stuck in bootscreen after update

Hello everyone,
Today I bought an used Samsung Galaxy Spica from a friend as a backup phone for my HTC One X. It had Android 1.5 installed so i tried to update it to Android 2.1. I tried to update it with KIES or PC Studio, but it both failed. I still dont know why.
So I searched on the web and found out that you could update it with ODIN.
So I used this tutorial with the included files. http://www.greaky.com/2010/02/samsu...02/samsung-i5700-galaxy-spica-android-21.html
But when it reboots I get a image of a phone with a exclamation. I also tried the Flash 1, Flash 2 and Flash 3 method, but in the end when it reboots it gets stuck at the samsung screen with a filled bar.
What am I doing wrong guys?
Suckup SpiceGenMod RC1
Have you been here yet?
Search on google for suckup.de and samdroid and you'll get there.
Tends to be the most stable ROM and also the best guide on how to get a good stock version in plus then root and install the ROM itself.
Otherwise the forum for Spica is over at samdroid.net
---------- Post added at 05:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:53 PM ----------
btw, if you still get stuck at the bar after resetting then let me know.
It could be extra kernel files or similar causing the boot problem or any manner of things but if you can get to recovery then try doing a wipe of everything from the main menu plus the advanced menu... Otherwise reset back to stock via Odin, but make sure you use the right one for your region, then root, then install a ROM.
And don't forget to sipe caches and dalvik AFTER installing the ROM!

we got the same problem....
can anyone help us?
That normally means the kernel can't boot the OS.
I normally go into recovery, advanced then wipe dalvik-cache and battery stats then back to main menu and wipe cache then reboot again.
---------- Post added at 11:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:48 AM ----------
Or, phone with exclamation is normally download mode. Have you tried using Odin with the spica settings file to re-flash a stock firmware to reset? Then root it agian and ROM it after that? ie start from scratch with 2.1/2.2 and ditch 1.5 all together?

Motorola defy acting unstable

hi
I have a Motorola defy 525 I bricked it a few time never had an issues going into bootloader and flashing the original .SBF and starting for scratch
this last time ....when it started it up it never asked me to sign into Motoblur the wifi was already on (I never opened it) it was how I left it before I flashed it
the touch screen was not very responsive also (no service) signal comes on and off every few seconds it does allows me to do a phone update but makes the phone more unstable it wont allow me to view apps also notice the phone getting warm front and back
to me it seem like the phone is just overlapping files and not totally erasing when in flashing in bootloader with the original .sbf file because I have been installing it frequently
am I supposed to flash with a file that will totally erase the phone softwear before flashing with original .sbf file ?

DFP-231 should work. Once you go to GB you can't return to stock froyo.

The Framaroot worked and it allowed me to install SndInitDefy with no problems, but when I tried to install GB it froze on the Google logo then had to flash to original sbf file
Once again I tried to install cm7 on my Defy
started from stock sbf file updated the software
installed Framaroot 1.6.0.apk
installed SndInitDefy_2.0.apk
booted in cmw wiped data/ factory rest
installed update-cm-7.1.0-jordan-signed
did a wipe again, restarted and again was left with a frozen google screen start up.
also when trying to install cm7 it was giving me (installation aborted) a few times before it actually installed
Have you try erase your MicroSD card? Or use a different new MicroSD.
Although you have totally wiped/formatted your phone by flashing it stock SBF.. but your memory card still hold some of your previous rom data..
