2 weeks ago my Optimus 7 suddenly had a problem with his Audio Jack. Whenever I plugged in some Headphones with 4 connectors(for microphones or/and buttons) my Optimus 7 restarts instantly. I tried other headphones as well, but only ones with only 3 connectors(without microphone/buttons) worked. Does someone has the same problem and maybe has a fix for it? It annoys me a lot, because I cant use my headphones anymore.
Thanks in advance!

Well.. I've got a problem:
Today I wanted to use my Samsung headset that came with the S2, plugged it in, and the music sounded wierd. Like there was an echo, or if all my music was a karaoke version..
Turns out:
Non-Headset headphones work perfectly, but the "3-ringed-jack" headset does not work! I do not have another headset to test this, but the headset works @my pc (got a connector for that..)
So the 3.5mm jack at my S2 seems to be broken?
I will try a software reset (right now I am @stock rom+root) and then send it to Amazon. Anyone heard of that problem or got some ideas?
Breece
[edit]
Reset didnt help, but the headset does *not* work on my Nexus one (same problem) but my BH905i do not work on both phones with the 3.5mm jack (the one that has "3 rings")
Did you push the pin in far enough?
For 3 weeks I didn't know I had to push it hard into the jack, until it clicks. After that, it was perfect. I'm using Ultimate ears 220vi, 3 ring.
That has to be the pin. you must give it a good press to seat it properly.
The SGS2 headset jack is a bit 'finicky'. Some aux cables / headsets work, some sound funny or do not work and yes, one has to ensure it is really pushed in firmly.
I pushed as if my life depended on it Just last week the headset worked...

The same thing happened to me, but I noticed ealier.
I re-installed the firmware but nothing seems to help. I guess its hardware..
Will send it back to Amazon today...
Maybe the headset is broken after all, who knows
Just an update:
Has been @ the amazon repair center for two days and apparently something did indeed brake in the hardware... atleast it says on the homepage "being repaired"
Now I hope the S2 will be back soon.. want to flash 2.3.4
Shoot I was just about to ORDER a replacement Audio Jack, until I read the second poster reply. For me, my headset worked only by wiggling the cable around into the audio jack in order to finally hear sound (had do this every single time and was very annoying), the audio did sound distorted and the mic would never work :-(
I personally thought that I inserted the cable in the audio jack as hard I could (after many attempts having this phone for 2 months)
but after reading kaotickelly's reply, I noticed i never EVER heard a click before inserting the cable in the jack throughout many attempts.
So I put my "trying to over protect my phone" ignorance aside, and FORCED the dam thing in, and it clicked!!! not only did I forced it, but I didn't scratch or break phone as i feared, Headset sounded correctly without any distortion and microphone worked!
Unlike Breece, my audio jack now works and I got to UPDATE to 2.3.4! (Don't take it personal)
GOOD-LOOKING OUT KAOTICKELLY!
Hi all...
My daughter has a ZTE Blade that I flashed originally to a custom rom running Froyo... for Xmas she got some new headset in ear headphones (one's with a mic)... The sound through these when plugged into the Blade is similar to listening to music underwater (muffled and echoing).... if you press the mic button the volume increases but is still poor quality. However plug in a normal earphone 3.5 connector (two bands rather than three) and everything sounds fine... I tried the earphones on other phones/computers and there is definitely nothing wrong with them. We also bought a second pair for my other daughter and they were exactly the same, I then tried my supplied Samsung Galaxy SII headset... again same thing... muffled and echoing sound.
So the problem was with the phone.
I decided to re-flash the phone this time with a Gen 2 Cyanogen Gingerbread rom... I tried the audio again after flashing and it seemed to have been fixed (admittedly I only played a track for a few seconds). Over the course of the day my daughter has reinstalled her apps etc... went to listen to some more music and again the same problem... muffled and echoing sound - pop in some normal headphones and everything is fine.
I have searched around and the problem seems to have come up before a few times but no one has really been able to track down what the issue is. I was actuallt thinking it might be app related (Skype or Tango for example) but I have stopped (not uninstalled yet) these apps but it makes no change.
So it seems that the Blade will not work with any wired headset/mic - any idea's please?
I found it wouldn't work with a headset that has a mic on it, but I got it working fine with my £5 jvc gummi headphones although I'm not getting much in the way of sound quality and volume. Still miles better than the stock headphones in the box though

I know this is an old topic but I found the solution and some others may have the same problem:
There are two kinds of connectors, they have ground and mic signal switched.
If you get the wrong one it will work but sound (mostly speech) will be very bad, this results in a very poor audio quality.
So just get the correct ones (Apple-Style) with mic or the ones withour mic will also work fine.

I just opened my new Nexus 7 earlier today, and haven't modified it in any way. For some reason, while I am watching a movie, I try to plug in my headphones, and the audio continues to play through the speakers. Anyone else have this issue or a possible solution?
Noticed that too, in any video player. Really wierd and is a real problem.

My headphone port is defective :-( I have to wiggle the headphone jack to get it to work and if I move it in any way it stops working.
From my long awaited and totally worth it EVO LTE!
Similar issue appeared today when I plugged my headphones into the port. i have to hold the cable a specific way for SOME of the audio to come through the headset. i've tried a few pairs of headphones too.

Iv'e got a 16 gig N7 with me about 7 months old with a peculiar problem
When listening to music/playing games/pretty much doing anything with sound if I use a earphone with the 3.5 mm jack I get low volumes in the left ear than in the right ear.
I've tried the same earphone with an iPod, my cell phone, and another mp3 player but the volumes are equal so it's neither the headphones nor my ears.
Any help will be appreciated.
Make sure the headphone connector is inserted fully into the jack. It may take more force than you think. Also, try different headphones or earbuds in the jack to see if it duplicates the problem.
If it's in-ear 'phones (not earbuds) try adjusting the fit and how far in your ear you insert them. I have to do that sometimes for my left ear.

I have this issue too, and it has started about 2 months ago (had the device about 10months now). Tested with multiple headphones, and other devices (galaxy S4) works fine.
I'm not sure if it's specific headphones, software, or a full out headphone jack issue.
Less volumne in one ear
I have had the same problem develop after owning the Nexus 7 32 gb for two months.
Could get earphones to work if I did not completely insert into phone jack but that was a PIA.
Tried many types with same results.
Almost sent it back but everything else was perfect with the tablet.
My solution was to purchase a:
GOgroove BlueGate Bluetooth Adapter Wireless Receiver
It paired right up. Used it on a recent flight to watch movies on the Nexus 7. You can use any standard earphone and they are not tethered to the Nexus 7.
It also solved the volume problem with earphones. Sound is now loud and clear.
I also use the adapter to stream internet radio from the tablet to a little used bookshelf stereo with great results.
Also use a G-Grip Portable Wireless Speaker to listen to music and audio books. Nice little speaker.
My one year warranty will be coming up soon and I must decided to send it back or live with what I have.
Seems like a mechanical/connection problem.
Hey guys,
I've a problem with my Nexus 4. I think it's rather a hardware than a software problem. So maybe it's wrong here.
After a display change, the external speaker is not working anymore. The headphone jack still works and also the earpiece.
I already did a factory reset und tried to get it working again with the app soundabout. I also plugged in and out a headphone for some times.
So i changed the speaker but without success.
LG Nexus 4 E960 Loud Speaker Module Replacement
Do you know what I can do or which part I have to replace?
Best greetings
