Dolphin browser (Beta) - Galaxy S III General

Hi Guys,
Just a word of warning, install Dolphin Browser (Beta) on my S3. Very quick all round, but I started to notice excessive battery drain in standby with screen off, 79% to 13% in 3 hours. Could not figure out what was causing the drain to start with, turns out it was Dolphin, screen and back really hot even in standby. Un installed dolphin as battery stat reported 49% battery drain, with only a few minutes on screen time, after install problem persisted. Had to do a factory reset which was a complete pain, but it cured it.
I would not have believed it, only I googled it and someone else had the same problem on a BB playbook, with side loaded Android apps.
Regards Paul.

Battery drain from 90% to 15% overnight..

This is so weird, last time i check before went to bed the battery show 90% but when i wake up the next morning it is down to 16% that is over 6hrs.
Anyone having this problem? I hope it is just one off occurrence.
I have problem with my battery as well. Is draing so fast. I thing there is a something wrong with battery or software.
Well without task manager you can never be sure what is running in the background. I have similar problems with X1, especially GPS seems to do it time to time. As if the driver got stuck or something. Try to soft reset your phone before going to bed.
As already mentioned you should check in task manager (pref. get a better one) and kill the apps that you've launched throughout the day.. I charged 24 hours ago and now I have 52% left.. 2 hours talking, 10 minutes music, 10 minutes video, 10 minutes gaming, 10 minutes messaging, a couple of minutes WLAN searching for connection. I also have 3G turned off when I dont use it.
I had an issue with my diamond where it would turn momentarily at 11:59pm. Then if it is on charge, it would stay on in a dimmed state hence not fully charging the battery. Still don't know why it does it. My Dopod D810 also did this.
Battery is going down very fast
I have the same problem, I solved this once with a soft reset, but the problem has returned ...
I have same issue as well. I'¨ve charged my device using data cable uto 100% at 6P.M. I wasn't doing any calls charge was about 90% befire I went sleep, Bluetooth was enabled but headset was turned off, next morning I was late at work. I found phone with 0% of charge in battery. So far it first time I see this kind of behaviour, but it would be good to test it again during the weekend .
Had that issue, battery drained in 5 hrs with flight mode on. Soft reset the phone and today it went down by 50% in 12hrs with calls and over 1hr of playing music and texting.
Same problem here, everytime closing apps in taskmanager but the battery drained in 6 hrs...
Softreset makes no difference. Could it be a software or hardware problem??
Google maps and battery drain ?
Hello
I have noticed that there is a big difference in battery drain after using Google maps. The battery having a quick drain. I make a soft reset and its back to normal ?
Somebody else have this same HTC Leo HD2 experience ?
I think for some unknown reason the GPS is working on the background, without seeing it in task manager. ( BUG ?)
All of you that have problems with the battery, how's the network coverage in your area? Strong, constant signal? Or always struggling to have a decent signal?
See posts 62, 63 and 64 of this thread (you can also see the entire thread, maybe it can help).
Have you enabled the MS MyPhone application, where at somepoint during the day it syncs your phone with "the cloud". My phone does this at 6am however this time is totally changeable by going to
Settings->Other->Microsoft My Phone
Other things is it still connected to WiFi,Bluetooth turned on this will drain battery still.
Another thing to look at is look at the TaskManager what applications are running - end all the ones you done need...at this point I would also reccommend Dutty's Task Manager in my eyes the most essential utility for WM

Dolphin Browser HD, phone turns off?!?!?

hey guys, I think there is a big flaw in dolphin browser or other program conflicting with dolphin.
a few weeks ago when I was at work I browsed for 5 min and left my phone in the locker. 2 hours later i checked my phone and it was a bit warm when i touched it, but i thought nothing unusual and then i tried to unlock it....no response...no nothing... took the battery out, same, no response from the phone.
my heartbeat went up so much as if I had run hundreds of miles :X
i got home, plugged in the charger and it started charging, whew. i checked the battery usage straight away and saw a straight line down to 0% (from 55%) then I remembered I didnt exit the browser and just locked the screen.
today exactly the same thing happened, I left dolphin open and locked the screen, I checked my phone 30 min later and the phone was completely dead. I had to take the battery out so that it turns on. the battery was not discharged this time though.
i have KF3 stock, rooted
i have modded framework-res.apk for battery percentage and green icons
I have frozen some apps as well
has anyone experienced something like this???
thanks
What website was Dolphin HD left at? Anything with flash running in the background tends to keep running and prevents the phone's CPU from going into standby.
I was on Www.Marketwatch.com

It happens with me too ... thats why stopped using it
this kinda happens to me, i thought it was the undervolting i was doing, i guess not. I just get occasional random shutdowns when i leave dolphin open too long, although battery life is normally unaffected.
Happens to me too, maybe once a week, i notice phone getting very warm when i use Dolphin. On Lightning 5.0 rom.
My phone used to restart randomly on Dolphin, switched to Opera
Gee, so i guess it's not only me :X oh well, i think i will be switching to something else pretty soon may be skyfire or Opera
thank u guys for the replies ))
That must be a flash problem, not Dolphin. In Opera, it happens from time to time too.

Bam. Random. Battery life from amazing to crummy

running a flashed stock 4.0.4 ICS ROM, Rooted.
everything was running great. battery life was one of the more amazing parts of this tablet. then one day last week i had it on the charger half the day, went to go grab it, wouldn't turn on.
after lots of button pushing, swearing, about 30 minutes of it, i put it back on the charger. 10 minutes later i got a blue battery symbol charging and i held down the power button for 30 seconds and it turned on. since then have had no issues with it working, except battery life is poor. the initial time after i used it, the thing lost like a percent every couple of minutes just sitting there. it was dead within an hour and a half or so, barely touched.
i charged it fully, and reset the battery stats via battery calibrator (even though google says that is useless), then i let it drain to 0 with usage and charged it up again. now the battery life is pretty average. i lose about 10% every half hour on wifi browsing the web, screen at anywhere from 15-30% via Lux, and checking to see if anything is running nonstop in the background. so that gives me only 5 hours of total battery life just browsing the web. before i was watching HD movies 2 hours long on almost 100% brightness with some browsing and messing about in the middle and losing 20%.
i have better battery stats installed and the tab is going into deep sleep very well. also it is barely utilizing full speed, it is rarely at 1.2ghz, usually at 500mhz or 200mhz if not deep sleeping.
a couple times i had some partial wakelock issues but nothing bad. but every other day, the battery life just goes fast just doing regular stuff. nothing unusual going on in the background.
anyone else have this happen?
if i do a full reset can that help? or is this a hardware failure and time to call samsung.
The best battery life I have ever had was on Quicksilver 0.9. I got about 13,5 hours with the display on (WiFi off and airplane mode on)...
On a stock rom u should get about 10 hours with the display on.
On cyanogen-mod ROMs I am experiencing the same thing as you. The battery is dead after ~7 hours.
I would suggest to restock the tab, wipe it and just run with the apps you really need. Maybe even try Quicksilver and to be 100% sure u could even flash the ROM when the battery is at 100%.
What does the battery stats in the settings-app say?
battery settings shows nothing that could be a culprit. this thing deep sleeps like a champ.
screen off just laying around i won't even lose a percent an hour. just all of a sudden i went from being able to browse the web on wifi for 10 hours, to 5. all after that weird time the battery drained super fast.
i wiped cache and dalvik cache, same thing.
going to try reflashing with the newer ICS posted recently. UK Q2 based and see what happens.
P.S. how long until i can post more than once every 5 minutes?

Excessive Deep Sleep Battery Drain

Some of you may have noticed that battery life on this phone can be both unbelievable and mediocre. I've been trying to figure out what can trigger and cause mediocre performance and I'm at a loss. The problem is, there doesn't appear to be a smoking gun. No obvious wake locks. No rogue Apps. I have Carrier IQ disabled by System Tuner. Google Now is off. What I'm running right now is pretty bare bones. And the kicker is my phone is sleeping, as can be seen in the shots below. The vast majority of the time my phone was off the charger it was in deep sleep mode.
I noticed my phone in excessive drain mode Saturday so I let it run over night and into the next day, so that BBS and GSam could pick up as much data as possible, including sitting idle overnight and very little use throughout yesterday.
Here are some shots to show the story. The graph, which is definitely steeper than when idle drain is normal, which resulted in idle drain of about 6% per hour. Also as can be seen in these shots, there is not a wakelock problem. Deep sleep shows as 12 hours 38 minutes, Awake time of 1 hour 8 minutes, and screen on time of 1 hour. So, my phone was only "awake" for 8 minutes when the screen was off out of almost 14 hours according to BBS.
I did notice and oddity here though. BBS listed the unplugged status as 13 hours 47 minutes, while the phone's battery meter listed it at 12 hours 13 minutes.
Attached are the shots I took at 19%, as well as a final battery meter shot after charging the phone to full while powered off and restarting, where it's been purring like a kitten in deep sleep.
Part of me is beginning to believe there is a bug with the battery gauge. What do you guys think is going on?
Try clearing data for google play services, google services framework and playsore than reboot and check if things changed.
And i would recommend uninstall the updates related to those apps and let them update itself again.

Done. Although I won't know if any attempts to resolve the issue have worked until the idle drain triggers again (or doesn't).
Thanks for the advice.
Well unfortunately that didn't solve the issue. The heavy deep sleep drain again triggered after a bit over one full day. I charged to full last night and let sit over night where it drained 6% per hour with no obvious culprit. Anyone else have any suggestions?
It seem that your signal is week, did you get stable signal and have you tried airplane mode, to find out how much battery drain in this mode?
Also, did you disable LG MLT? This is a massive app from LG, can consumed about 150 MB RAM.
This might sound boneheaded, but what about just resetting the phone. Maybe some system app is causing some type of memory leak and thus draining your battery. Also disable wifi when you're not using it.
I don't think it's signal related. I get an excellent signal at work and the idle drain still occurs. Also, it happens whether wifi is on or not. I have not disabled MLT, as I'm not concerned about RAM, just running processes. Rebooting the phone eliminates the issue, so something is obviously getting hung. The really odd thing is I was draining 6%/hr overnight, all while the phone was in deep sleep, yet my top battery consuming category was the screen at 35%, with just 1 hour of screen on time of 10 hours off the charger. If something was cranking in Android System that caused 40% drain overnight I would have expected Android System to be higher. It doesn't make any sense.
I may just have to factory reset.
My battery's been great until couple of days ago when I turned on GPS and Voice Notification (for speaking out names when phone call/message comes in). After I noticed the abnormal battery drain, I turned off those two options, because that's the only thing I did differently before noticing the drain. However, that didn't help... yet. I needed to do a reboot and battery's been fine again. Not sure if those two were the actual culprit, or just coincidence.
Have you changed any settings right before you noticed the drain? Just a thought.
had the same issue., wakelock detector, BBS, GSAM nothing could show what was eating the battery. i use mobile browsing a lot and almost 8/10 times this battery drain was happening with chrome , chrome beta and firefox browsers.
Only thing thats helping me is the Greenify app . Greenified the chrome and firefox and almost all the cloud apps and the battery is now much much better.
still ...IT IS AN PROBLEM to be found..
To provide a bit more info on this, attached is a pic of my reboot a couple hours ago (marked by the thin white vertical line). The change in the slope of the drainage line is drastic. Also, notice the small hump after the reboot? The line actually increased a bit, fell, then flat lined. More and more I'm beginning to suspect the battery gauge, but I just don't know.

I have the same situation after charging. Even in"deep sleep" it would chew through the battery. Now I just reboot the phone after charging and it plays nice. The gerbil on the wheel seems to take a break and rest.
To all who have excessive battery drain, did you charge your phone while it is on or off?
Some where in this forum (if not mistaken), I read that there is a bug while charging G2 when it is on. You should reboot your phone after it is fully charged otherwise you will experience excessive battery drain.
Mine always charged it while it is off and never had problem with battery life.
i got the same issue which is very annoying, have over 85% deep sleep, no wake lock, battery draining like crazy, and it happens randomly. I wonder if factory rest fixes the problem, or hardware issue
i have done a bit testing for this random drain,
with mobile signal on ==> huge drain
without mobile signal on and only phone signal ==> huge drain
airplane mode ==> no drain
so i believe it is a bug within the phone software, actually sometimes the random drain started after a phone call
I've been getting the drain too in the past few days. Last time i could fix it by factory resetting, but obviously I don't feel like doing that once per month. What I do know is that flashing another stock ROM (kdz) without factory resetting doesn't fix it. However last night I figured i'd try disabling WiFi (kept it on during the night until now) and I only drained 1% in 5 hours, down from 3% per hour. Perhaps this bug is related to WiFi.
Have you disabled LG MLT? It acts like CIQ for internal LG purposes. I have personally seen it cause mass wakelock in unexplained situations. If I leave everything on overnight under 95% battery, I will get around a 3% drain in about 7 hours. Pretty normal. The first 5% on these batteries seem magical. At 100%, with everything on, I wake to 100%.
Yup, frozen in TiBu. Will be factory resetting however when I get home as GSAM grabbed my attention. Never were system things so high up the list when i had no drain.

I been struggling with this since I got the phone (almost a month now). I've done all the usual:
Removing bloat
Disabled CIQ
Disabled Google Now, Location, GPS
and I have the same apps as my Nexus 5
Just last night I realized that this battery drain only happens after taking it off the charger. This got me to add the word "charging" in my search and I found this thread.
Is this hardware related, or would a custom ROM resolve this? I have the AT&T version.
Ok and which stock rom does not do that?

Probably this is a software issue. Never heard this problem on latest firmware or custom ROM.

Guys could you write which stock rom does this wakelocks for you so we could eliminate corrupt firmwares?
For example I experience these wakelocks on latest F international version.

My battery keeps doing funny things.

Hi All,
I've attached a screenshot of the battery settings, my screen-on-time at this point was 1h48m - it seems to not be able to calibrate at all and drops and rises as it feels. I unplugged my phone this morning when the alarm went off and snoozed myself for a few hours, the phone was off when I woke up, when I turned it on it was at 66%
I've reloaded my ROM (MIUI v5) and it doesn't seem to have made a difference. Is it my battery dying or is it the ROM? I haven't seen anyone else using MIUI have these issues.
Any advice? Should I think about replacing the battery?
Seems really bad and battery problems really gets fustrating at times..
Check if you have any apps you recently installed that might be causing the drain (Games tend to stay in background hogging batteries)
Reflash your rom if possible, with a full wipe to be assured of no rogue apps.
If the problem persists, then it might be due to a worn out battery. Replacing the battery usually solves most problems :good:
