Hi.
I've just put my iPad 1 up for sale.
Forget the iPad 3 I'm looking at what Samsung bring out in there upcoming press conference. If I don't like what I see I may get a 10.1 instead until the Nexus tablet sees the light of day
I'm wondering if I buy new stock has the Newton Rings been eradicated?
Also, is there an ETA on ICS for the 10.1?
I'll be rooting straight away - is it easy?
Cheers.

Newton rings have not been mentioned in a while here so I'd say it has been fixed..
ICS most likely April or May would be my guess but there are ICS CM9 Kangs already in the development section that work rather well.. The only thing not really working on the CM9 Kangs is the camera..
Rooting is very easy on the Tab..
Hey mate
Theres no eta at the mo, although most predict q2 :L u can just install an ics rom, everythings works on them except the camera.
Rooting is easy, takes ten mins tops good luck...

I'm almost positive the manufacturing of the 10.1 has changed, virtually eliminating the Newton rings. Everywhere I've seen it even brought up it was with a tab purchased pre change in manufacture. Not saying the have been eradicated, but as a manufacturer flaw yes.
ETTA on ICS, good question, and there are only estimates on the official release. But, I like to think the estimates of before the end of March are accurate
Easy to root, another good question. If you take you time making sure you follow EVERY step exactly it can go smooth and flawless. If not, you're bound to hit a snag and need help, but I've found help is quick, and great here if you're polite and specific about your process followed, where you are stuck at, and most important not panicking. I've also yet to see any one who was following one of the how to guides here actually brick the tab. You'll see many posts saying I've bricked my tab, but I've yet to see anyone not get out of it easily with little help to the right direction
Having said that about bricking, I'm not saying impossible, but probably would have to try something not suggested intentionally to brick it for real. Stickied how to's are highly suggested to be used.
Good luck and keep us posted.

A new design display started appearing on 3G UK G-Tabs in October. Samsung also started using it for repairs about the same time. You can recognize the new display by holding it an angle under light. It's got a textured kind of weave underneath the glass. I had both designs and the newer one also has better contract and the colors are a bit less exagerated.
Cool excellent.
I've rooted a few phones in the past so I should be OK.
I'm wondering what is chrome beta like on ics for the tab? I have it on my nexus s and love it. I hoping the performance on a oc tab is fast. That was one of my main bugbers with the iPad - browsing us just too slow.

If you like Chrome Beta (I don't) then it works well on the Tab with either the Kang or the AOKP..
Hey thanks for the replies.
I sold my iPad! So I will get the money and sit on it for a month and see what Samsung bring to the table for the iPad 3 fight.
If I don't like what I see then 10.1 it is.
Hopefully it will be discounted when the new tablets hit the streets.
Thanks.
My galaxy tab was made in September and I have no rings

I still wonder how prevalent this symptom was. I purchased my Tab last June and have never experienced any screen anomalies.
No newton rings here
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
I HAD the Newton rings. Wife purchased the tab back in August and it had the "non-branded" screen which I believe is the old version with the rings problem. I sent it in for replacement and a week later, I get it back with a new screen. This one has the Samsung logo on it and seems much stronger. No newton rings to speak of so far.

I'm really curious about this as well. Can someone explain how to tell the difference between screens and when your tab was manufactured?
Do your screens have the Samsung logo on them? Mine did not have the logo and I think that is how you tell which are the good screens.

No. The original manufactured ones didn't have the logo. They had a manufacturing flaw and the ones manufactured after flaw was discovered didn't. They started manufacturing ones that had the logo, and without the flaw.

Hi all... I ordered by nexus 7 from staples when it first came out. I didn't notice any screen issues at first but once outside their return period I noticed the left side was separating like other had described. Well last night several cracks formed in that area and the screen doesn't respond at all to touch anywhere on it. Staples doesn't want to do anything for me as I am outside their return period. Does Google provide a warranty? If so how do I set things in motion to get it repaired or replaced. Thanks!

Asus should cover it. But you will have to send it to them and hope they deem it was a manufacturing defect and Hope they don't say it was your fault.

Hey there,
I just thought I would share this with you people. I work for a carrier (don't even bother asking which one ) and we received our test unit today!!! It's the grey version and it looks totally awesome. The screen real-estate is just outta this world. I put it side to side with my S3 and looking at them, I became a bit pissed at my purchase as when the Note 2 was announced, I had thought that we would never carry it (ok, I've already said enough)!
I'm sorry I can' really say much but I had it in my hands for about 5 mins...! It was a 16gb model. I witnessed popup s note, popup browser (NICE), the new menu when you pull the pen out...oh yeah and this thing is FAST!
I have no idea about the release date (they wouldn't tell us), although I find it a bit strange that we are receiving a unit so soon. I've read on several sites that it would be next November...!

I didn't actually have enough time with it (5mins) to notice any potential bugs (and mind you, we only received the phone today). I can ask my colleague who's in charge of the device though to see if he notices anything odd.

Hi guys I want to make a question. Today I saw the screen of my tablet broken in the side as you cab see in the photos. This didn't happen from dropping or press on it. It doesn't have signs of drop either. The tablet is full functional only this corner don't work. I want to ask if I can claim free repair from Asus because it's not my fault. The tablet is 15 days old and this happen by itself.
Thanks in advance

Now to answer your question, the only way you'll truly know is by asking them. Different situations are different so no one could really tell you.
Oh sorry about that. I wanted some opinions before I call. Anyway now the Asus support line is closed until Monday I think. I mean is it possible to replace it free or they don't change broken screen's no matter what?

generally a broken screen would be considered physical damage, which the warranty wouldnt cover. it would be very hard to prove that the screen broke all by itself, the weight of the proof would be on you. the only thing that might save you is getting the right customer service representative that is sympathetic to your cause. be very nice to them when you call.
Asus says it's not covered by warranty and the price to fix it is 150 €. So I'm going to buy new lcd+digitizer from eShop. Anyone knows were I can find it cheap?

Quite honestly, most just end up replacing the entire tablet because of the disproportionately high price for the LCD/digitizer.

This happened to me. Hit power button and screen cracked from middle left to bottom right. Its on itsway to Asus right now.
It had some screen lift on the left, but never bothered me. I can't help but think that's what caused it.

You found a way to screw a system that was meant to help people, for your own gain. That's what makes you the d-bag.
Anyways, not certain of any correlation. As another guy said, it may just be the placebo effect.
Somehow I get a feeling this is some kind of strange trolling.
Like those messages about 21xC devices without sparkling back.
Here is why: the OP goes through his 4-th device (implying he is getting replacements) and somehow manages to get his 16gb replaced with 8gb. Which is somewhat strange and I suppose such an event would trigger a very different post.
