Anyone ever had a problem with their O2 XDA Mini S not recognising a mini SD card?
I got a 512MB one on Thursday (not a cheapo one, a SanDisk bought from the O2 shop), and when I put it in (with the device on), nothing happened. If I went to Settings > System > Storage Card, it said "Not inserted".
Ok, I thought, maybe it needs formatted somehow. Couldn't find an option for that. So I thought maybe reseting the device, but that didn't work either. I took the card out and put it back in, and it instantly showed up this time.
Anyway, all was fine over the next 2 days, till last night - I was messing about with TomTom 6 (which is on my SD card) before I went to bed last night, and all was ok. I exited the app, I put the phone on charge and when I got up this morning and started TomTom I got "No maps found". This was because when I checked Memory > Storage Card, it said "Not inserted". Popped the card out, put it back in, works fine.
Any seen this behaviour before, and do you think it's more likely to be a problem with the device or the card?
Cheers
I had the same problem with a 2GB MiniSD after checking with varius programs I just removed and re-inserted the card. It was detected immediately and has worked fine since (if it has not I've just done the remove and re-insert thing).
Was it an expensive one or a cheap one? I've read on here people have had issues with really chep Mini SD cards. My O2 was a little unstable for a bit when I got my 2GB card. But then I paid £45 for 2 of the blighters from eBay so it wasn't surprising. Currently it seems OK though.

I had this same problem. I fixed it by removing the miniSD card from the wizard. Then soft reset the device. THen turn it back on. Wait for it to fully boot back up and re-insert the card. Also, do you have a card reader you can test the card on to make sure its the phone, not the card?
Seems ok in my card reader, but then it was only in it for 5 mins.
Hi, Today after a couple of hours trying the phone, when i rebooted the phone, a message showed up saying that the memory was not recognized. After a couple of more reboots, the message changed showing that the memory needed a format, but i could not format it from the phone. After it, i took the battery off to look at the memory, trying to take it off and put it on again, but i could not take the memory off! The memory was below the slot. It looks normal, but i cannot take it off since it is being blocked by a black plastic. I was told that the memory was supposed to go off by pushing the microsd, but i cannot even push it since it is below the slot and not in the slot. I dont know if it is normal, but when i just got the phone, i thought the phone did not have any memory in there, and inserted a microsd of 16gb in this slot. I realized that the memory was still 8gb and not 16gb, so i took the 16gb away. I couldnt see any memory in the slot and after a while i looked that below the slot was a number 8, realizing that that was the memory. At that time, the memory was working properly until i played some music in my car and the application was forced to close. I turned the phone OFF and sine that time, the memory could not be recognized. Please, someone help me!
Thank you guys in advance!
By the way, when i was in the car after the application crashed, after rebooting a couple of times due the memory error, the phone didn't want to turn on. After waiting a couple of minutes, it worked. Now, after a couple of hours with the same memory problem, i turned off the device and now it doesn't turn on, even with the USB connected.
You stuffed two cards in the slot when you first got it?!
i'm confused by ur post. so you are saying you attempted to jam a 16gb into the memory slot because you thought there was no microsd in the memory card slot? only to realize there was a 8gb microsd in there already? if that's the case you probably did some damage to the memory card slot by forcing a 16gb mem card on top of a 8gb mem card. if u purchased it from a retail store, i try taking it back and say the mem card doesn't work without mentioning you jammed another mem card into it.
I tried to since the slot was empty and the empty size was the exact size of a micro sd. When i just got the phone, i could not even take the microsd off since it was below the slot, not in the slot. There was a big empty space in the slot.
??? Did you try shoving it into the SIM card slot??
What do you mean? The micro SD? no. I inserted my SIM card as normal to the SIM Slot. The only thing missing was the memory from the microsd slot. The memory could not be seen and the slot looked empty.
i'm confused did you or did you not jam another 16gb sd slot but you found out there already was a 8gb in it already?
Modders please keep this thread. I sold the X10 to the thread starter and will need this as proof that he damaged the phone himself and requesting refund.
thank you
i don't even know what he is trying to say.. the area below the microsd slot is solid.. so how do you even jam a microsd underneath it? and there's no way in hell you can fit 2 microsd in that tiny microsd slot..the slot itself is almost an exact fit with not much wiggle room.. and beside.. u said you THOUGHT there was no memory card in the phone so you INSERTED a 16gb in only to realize there was an 8gb in there already.. that sentence alone will prevent you from getting any refund out of it..
Ok.. I think I know what he's saying... He's saying that the SD card SLOT was empty so he put a 16Gb card in.. however.. what he didn't realise at the time was that the factory which packaged that phone had attempted to pre-install a Micro SD card already.. but had pushed it underneath the slot instead of pushing it into the slot... Therefore "polostarz" I think that you might need to see the handset before you assume incompetence on the part of this customer... sounds to me like the factory have done the damage.
yes i asked him what he meant so i asked him to send me picture but as you will see the 8gb sd card is where its suppose to be. But looked how he damaged it while forcing it in and out. It was perfect before nothing below or on top of the sd slot.
if it was like that when he first got it he would have told me. but the very first thing he said to me was that he could not find the sd card.
you got a bigger picture? it's awfully tiny to see anything
yes. I assure you that it was in perfect condition when I sold it except the battery cover was a bit squeaky. I sold this on Ebay by the way.

i'm guessing those are the "after" pictures?
It looks like the plastic at the end is broken, don't think this is a production problem.

my battery cover was was also a little bit squeaky.
I just used pincil to draw around the edge of battery cover and I've never heard that sound since then.
I think he couldn't push it because he pushed it downward rather than pushing it as in sliding motion.
The memory is still 8gb because the new 16gb card that he somehow inserted it was on top.
That pretty much damaged the memory slot
I think that is an user error, that is what User Manual for.
yup, I was try to help him with his problem so i asked him to send me pictures. At first, I thought he was trying to put the sd card into the piece of plastic right next to the camera. He sent me pictures and i saw the damage and asked him why is it like that, he said it was like that when he got it. heh
anyone knows how the damaged microSd might have affected the phone and left it unable to be turned on? Try to repair by updating?
I bought a 16gb class 6 sd card, put it in the phone and did everything required to get the card to work. So the card was currently working I installed all the apps I wanted synced the phone with zune and had everything just the way I wanted it. I decided that I would reboot the phone (just power off so it says "good bye" and then power back on) and when I can back to the home screen everything was gone, and I mean everything. All my contacts, apps, music, was all set back to default. I checked the memory and it said that I had a total of about 15mb and about 10mb free. After some trouble shooting I found that it has an issue with rebooting with the memory card since I can reboot without the card and I keep all my settings. I am getting another card to try and see if its an issue with the card or the phone. I was wondering if anyone else has this issue?
after you insert the memory card, perform the format reset (hold down camera button, power button, and volume down). after the format is complete, power on the phone, go to settings and reset the phone from there. WP7 should recognize the additional memory now
I have done that twice already. I was testing some ideas on the issue. I insert the card. hold down vol, camera and power on. format the device and when i get to the main screen check the memory I have 22gb or so free. I import my contacts from sim. I power off the phone and power back on and its back to default, no contacts check memory and i have about 15mb of space with about 10mb free. I searched around online and others are having this issue but they have not found a single source of the problem. some work others don't, there was a mention that there will be an update from microsoft to fix the issue.... but i was not able to find anything on that.
I guess thats why the guy at ATT told me to be careful with putting in an sd card. I'm using an 8 gb class 4 micro sdhc from sandisk without any problems
That happend to me this morning, I had a 16GB Class 2 I think.. works fine in my nexus. the phone just went beserk.. rebooted a few times then the last time it rebooted, it lost all my settings and music and stuff.
I wonder if 16GB is too big? I'm gonna go a few days with out any card in it.. to make sure its not something else wrong with the unit or the OS
sd card prob
i talked to att yesterday and they said the phone isnt ready to accept an sd card that there will be a patch to fix the problem in the upcoming weeks. the phone is able to hold a 32 gig card but no card will work they said til the patch is released
Yea I'm running without the SD in my phone. I will just make sure to keep it backed up for when we can use SD cards and reboot.
Here's a thread from Engadget that verifies that those of use who have seen issues aren't crazy
http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/09/...microsd-issues-atandt-not-installing-cards-i/
Thanks, Im running without the card and it works perfectly, I hope the patch comes soon i would like to put some movies on it.
Here is a good article on it from Paul Thurrott:
windowsphonesecrets.com/2010/11/06/samsung-focus-microsd/
Samsung said this in their press release Nov 4th:
- Memory:
- 8GB internal storage memory
- External microSD™ memory card slot up to 32 GB (class 2 (or higher) microSD card, card sold separately)
http://www.samsungusanews.com/2010/11/samsung-focus-available-to-att-customers-on-november-8/
Also this was posted in another thread. Too bad there are currently 3 or 4 threads on this issue. Microsoft has a KB on this now:

So I bought a 64 gb uhs-1/class 10 lexar branded sd card, the one that comes with the usb 3.0 reader. Used it on my s3 for a couple weeks before getting my Note, then put it in my Note the day I got it. It made me format it, which I did, and then copied all my photos music etc to it. No problems for a couple days, then out of the blue I got a message saying that the SD card that was currently inserted was either corrupt or blank. I pulled it and my pc said it was blank. Wtf. Formatted it on the pc, then on the phone again, and went to put some stuff on it. The first file transferred went on fine (from internal to external memory on the phone) then when I refreshed the folder the file was gone. Promptly went back to Wal-Mart and went to get it replaced. Didn't have my receipt but they said they could look it up, but when they went to the incompetent moron they call a manager couldn't find it. I said screw it and bought another one, walked about twenty feet away, opened it and swapped them out, turned around and returned it saying I don't want it anymore lol.
Went home, used it for almost the past week and now just last night the phone said that I incorrectly removed the card (to which I replied, "phone, I did nothing of the sort. I did not do so much as jar you around or anything of the like. I call your bull****, sir"). Went to pull it and push back in, nothing. Put my old 32 gb card in and it worked fine. Put the 64 gb card in my computer and nothing, it didn't even know there was a card there.
So has anyone else had problems like this with lexar cards? I'm pissed, and locally this is the only card of this size that I could find for under a hundred dollars....I am wondering if this is a common issue with them, and if anyone knows a place (local to Calgary preferably but obviously not many of you are from here lol) that I can get a good one for a reasonable price, and what brand is one you guys would suggest? I know SanDisk is crap. I would prefer a faster one but not if that means it will be less reliable. Thanks!

"SD Card Damaged : Try reformatting" and SD card randomly unmounting itself.
I'll start from the beginning. I purchased the phone on 2/14/16 from Best Buy for a $1 upgrade fee. The phone worked fine from day one with the Sandisk 64gb Ultra card I have had installed and running in my three prior phones (Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and LG G3) with no problem. Basically just used the card to hold music I had downloaded off of Google Play Music. I believe I used about 40-45gb of the available space.
This past Monday, the phone was at 20% battery when I went to bed so I powered the phone off and charged it overnight with it off to get the most charge before work. When I powered it on Tuesday morning, I had a notification that said "Damaged SD Card: Try Reformatting." Upon seeing this, I attempted a reformat and nothing happened. Tried again and again to nothing happening. Being rather upset, I dealt with the lack of a SD Card for the day until I could get to Best Buy and see what they had to say.
Stopped by Best Buy after work and their "tech guys" told me they had no clue, attempted a few fixes (all to no avail) and ended by telling me I should buy a new SD Card and give that a shot. Being it was close to closing time, I grabbed the 128gb Samsung Evo + which, per a few internet searches, was the "best SD card in 2016." Drove home, powered off the phone, pulled the SIM/SD tray, installed the new card, popped the SIM/SD tray back in, powered up and...nothing.
The phone wouldn't recognize that there was a SD card in it. Read a few articles from a few Google searches and pulled the card and verified that it was working by putting it in my Chromebook. The Chromebook recognized it, my Lenovo PC recognized it, the phone would not. I tried reformatting it on the PC and reinstalling it just for it to recognize the card and have the card unmount itself literally within two minutes of being recognized.
Frustrated, I called Verizon and asked what they could do. They overnighted me a replacement phone. Get home from work today, try the new phone and ...nothing. Same issue. I read a few threads on this forum that stated that Motorola doesn't want to take responsibility for the issue but I don't see how it isn't the phone's fault. My Chromebook can use the card. My PC can use the card. The previous three phones I had could use the 64gb Sandisk card. What gives?
Sadly, looking around Google, I don't see many articles or forum posts about my issue so I have yet to find a solution. Can anyone shed some light on this? Is there a way to fix this? Is my best option to get irate with Verizon until they replace this phone with yet another replacement to which has the same problem? Do I wait for the Marshmallow update and hope for the best? Do I continue being irate with Verizon in hopes that they'll replace this phone with a different model by a different manufacturer? What is my best options?
TL;DR - SD Card will mount in phone but will unmount itself immediately after powering on. Lack of Google results. Is there a fix?
Try to format sd card with your phone. I had similar problem with my previous phone.
I have exactly the same sd card as you and works flawlessly in my Force.

I've tried numerous times. When I hit "Erase everything" it starts and reads "Unmounting SD" for like a minute then gives me the error that the SD card was removed before it could finish though it hasn't. I don't know what the problem is.

Try removing the Micro SD-Card and use Windows to run "Error Checking" on it (right click drive, click on properties, click on "Tools" tab").
This fixed my SD-Card concerns.
