Stress test? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What app can I use to stress test my N7? I have very minor screen lifting and I want to fix it by heating it up and clamping down on the left side.
Thanks.

From the screen separation fixes that I've seen, your fix won't work because the separation is from improper screw tension.

I've tried loosening the screws and it didn't seem to make a difference, dunno if I should tighten them or not.

I'm not sure what I can do to try and get rid of the (albeit very minor) screen lift.

Dust under screen or no?

Hey,
Just wanted to get some perspective for this dust under the screen/screen clicking issue.
shouldn't you amend your poll to include the loose screen issue as well then?

Yeah, probably should.
I'll add that option.
edit. I'm probably blind, but cant find how to edit the poll.
But probably we can presume, that loose (clicking) screen equals or leads to dust under the screen. :|
This poll will probably be a bit biased as people with dust issues will google it and find xda-developers. People that have no problems and are not advanced users will probably not even come to xda-develoeprs at all.
Anyways I've had no dust issues and have had it in my jeans pocket for the last 2 days.

Thank you.
This poll is flawed; you now have two out of three choices equaling eachother, considering the clicking screen is what allows dust in.
Either way, i voted for dust, as the clicking stopped after i heated the phone up and pressed the screen cover down multiple times over the course of last night, as uansari1 did.

Yeah, the clicking was an aftertought to the poll, an probably not needed, but dont want to bother the mods, again.
Only going to receive mine on tuesday, slow friend in uk. But if I have any clicking Ill most probably try that heating and pressing thing. Would hate to start sending it back.

You might want to add to your poll
"Clicked at first but fixed with heat push fix"
"Clicked at first but fixed with heat push fix but problem came back"
People have been resolving the issue with a hair dryer resealing the adhesive under the screen
*EDIT* Didn't read replies ..didn't realize people already mentioned

I didn't even need a hair dryer... I just held my hand to it for about 30 seconds, and pushed down on the corner with some pressure. It's been 4 days so far and it's solid. Sadly dust had already gotten in though...

Yes, provided you applied good pressure, it should be fine. If you used a hairdryer, I'd think less pressure would be needed. I would just get a bright flashlight and shine it at different angles to look for dust underneath the upper layer of glass. I didn't see the single dust fiber I have until I did that. Now that I know where it is, my eyes automatically spot it even without a flashlight, lol... on second thought, just look without a flashlight and if you're satisfied, leave it be.

Even with the hairdryer i still put a bit or pressure and also rubbed up and down along the sides of the screen.
I checked with a flashlite and in the sunlight and all seems good.
Thankfully read about the fix before any dust worked its way under.
...I just used the heat the phone generates while being charged to soften the adhesive - that and my hand heat.
It really does seem like the adhesive is still very fresh, and just needs a little help to make the seal. So far it's been good since last night.
Of the 3 test units in our group, all 3 were just fine. No dust, no clicking.

CREAKING/CLICKING SOUNDS on the LOWER LEFT CORNER

So i was doing a final check before i go ahead and unlock bootloader and start flashing since unlocking voids your warranty with google.
upon inspections, i found out that when i PUSH on the lower left corner on the phone, it creaks PRETTY loudly, it almost sounded like im clicking on my mouse....
Anyone else got this!??!?!
look at the frame of your phone. mine wasn't flush where the chrome and rubber frames met, and had to rma it
no, everything look uniform. Same color and all. it just clicks when i push out.
Also not when i plug in my charger and wiggle it a bit. it makes some noise....i know its not my charging cord cuz i use like 3 different ones.
Thanks,
You can relock the bootloader that's a non issue. I have the creaking clicking sound too but on the left side above the volume rocker. I was going to exchange it but went to the T-Mobile store and the sales reps N4 and the display unit do the same thing. No unevenness in the bezel to case on any of them either. I decided there are worse problems in the world.

i dont have this issue, phone really feel solid!
Have the same thing on the left side of the USB port looks flush but I can push it in a little and it makes a noise doesn't seem to be doing any hard and it doesn't look off so I'm fine with it

I have the same creaking in the bottom left corner, right below the speaker. It creaks if I squeeze the two ends of the glass, or if I squeeze the bezel in that area. I'm slightly nervous that this may contribute to the back glass cracking, but I think that's probably being overly paranoid. I actually ordered a torx T5 screwdriver to see if loosening and tightening the screw in that area makes a difference. I'll post back here once I get the screwdriver and try it out.

Please do. I'm a sufferer as well and just thought a few minutes ago if tightening the screws could help. Because if that's all it is, then... BALLIN'.
But seriously, even if it doesn't help, I think I'll be able to live with it. I mean I don't normally squeeze the bottom of the phone like that.

I should have the screwdriver by Wednesday, according to USPS. I will update everyone once I get it.

I have tried the Torx screwdriver for this issue. It doesn't do anything. My first Nexus was really bad with this problem, picking it up would cause a creak...you could even push the bezel at the bottom left corner and it would feel "mushy", as there was some slight give. I got an RMA and the replacement unit arrived yesterday. Same issue, but not as bad as the first one...there's no give on the bezel, but squeezing that left corner can produce a creak. Looking at the teardown on iFixit, I don't see what would cause this other than glue from the back or pressure on the speaker unit.
oh damn, that issue is worst than mines. Good luck on it bro
mines is just pushing in on the corner...i can pretty much live with it since i have my bumper on 24/7 but im thinking about getting a rma.
what do you guys think? rma or no?

If that's the only issue, and it's not that bad, I wouldn't rma it. The chances of getting one with something else wrong make it not worth it in my view.

yea, besides the corner issue, i have the buzzing from the earpiece as well..but other than that. everything else is perfect.
thanks
The creaking in the lower left of my N4 seems to have gotten worse. It's not a huge deal, especially since I normally keep my N4 in a TPU case, but it is annoying. Anyone else notice the same thing? I'm tempted to put a very small amount of crazy glue near where the glass and plastic meet in that corner (ever since a tiny amount of crazy glue completely fixed the screen lift problem with my N7, it's been on my mind for various fixes).
I have the same thing on the upper left corner just above the volume button. Again this is on the plastic surround. If I hold in landscape for example the area my left thumb goes lands right there and it creaks hell. However it won't do it again unless I press slightly on the glass in the same area and it clicks.
These all sound like clips or something not clicking into place.
My volume rocker was loose from day one, now the power button is getting loose the more I use it.
Poor BQ IMO.

Haha. Don't go too crazy. The creaking, at least in my case, is a minor annoyance. It's not a big deal. I've learned a long time ago that there's no such thing as a perfect phone.

[Q] Weird screen defect on my N4

There's some permanent smudge on my n4 screen, upper right corner.
It's very visible on direct sunlight, and when the screen's off.
Hard to explain it, looks like permanent fingerprint
or some missing layer on that part of screen.
Any way to get rid of it?
That's strange man.. Have you tried anything to clean it with? I etched my back glass a bit with some acid at work.. I used a bit of car wax and it took care of it..

I don't feel it when in use,
I don't know if it's on the top layer of the lcd.
what do you recommend I clean it with? car wax? any popular cleaning solutions for lcd?
I know wax sounds weird, but it's a safe yet aggressive way to clean it.. Use a soft micro fiber cloth, just make sure it's not a compound/wax... Worked for me at least...

I've got exactly the same problem on mine, except mine goes all the way down the right hand side. Phoned up Google support and they've given me an rma. I'll let you know how it goes.
I've seen some nexus 7 owners have had their devices replaced for a similar issue.
Looks like your clearcoat or whatever they use for protection on top of the LCD came off.

Slight creaking?

Anyone notice a slight creaking throughout the phone. I've noticed it when I press the phone to my ear during calls. Its not bad, but its somewhat noticeable. Just wondering if anyone else has this too. I am extremely OCD when it comes to phones. So it just might be me lol.
My case creaks, but not my phone. You definitely made me paranoid enough to check though!
No creaks
I've noticed it ever since I dropped my phone. Only when I flex it diagonal though. Not when I put it up to my ear

Guys, some PSA: while checking the phone for any creaking by bending/flexing it, be careful not to crack the screen
No creaking here. At all. And I'm not going to flex it in any direction just to see if it creaks.
"Hey lets see if I can make it creak by twisting it and putting a load on the phones frame........."
Sheesh. If it isn't broke or creaking, forcing the device's frame to it's stress limitations can permanently make it do exactly what you hope it isn't doing. And that goes for any piece of engineered equipment in existence.

As I stated above, mine only creaked at the top, when you put it to your ear.
Nope, nothing there for me either.
Mine creaks a lot, and when I tap on the top of the screen, it sound like something is loose or shaking. Help?
ya same here, just when a bit of pressure is put near the top of the housing
If I twist it lightly, it sounds like a bag of popcorn popping.
I miss my S2, it was a solid phone.

Mine creaks mostly when I am trying to shove a slightly oversize battery in the back.

Screen and digitizer coming in contact.

I've noticed a weird oval shaped splotch that can sometimes form in the center of the screen. This seems to be caused by pressure applied to the front and/or back of the tablet causing the clear panel that we touch to stick to the screen underneath.
I noticed this a couple times after taking it out of my rolling bag. I have the slide cover and keep it in a neoprene case which is in turn inside of another neoprene case. I figured it was just a matter of me having too much stuff in the bag. Then I noticed it once after just having the tablet in my jacket pocket.
Putting it in front of a heat vent and applying slightly pressure on the sides will get the panels unstuck, but I'd rather not have to do that. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Are these tablets prone to this?

Best to treat tablets with kindness as most are stressed easily. My Google Nexus 7 2012 model used to have strange screen phenomena.
Never bend, nor drop, or push in the screen unless you really are intending to do what you do. Doing the heat thing may help you to bring into formity and parts that have moved or never put properly in manufacturing, but you also risk plastic stress and breakage..

Did you recently get your tablet? I remember reading a lot of people having this issue when their tablets were new, but after they had time to settle and for all of the bonding materials to fully dry and cure it went away. Of course any LCD will splotch the colors on a spot if you press too hard, though it tends to just happen for that moment and then go away... when I was a kid, I used to love mashing on the displays of calculators and watching the trippy results

It's been a couple weeks. You'd think everything would be settled by now. It's almost as if the digitizer is cut slightly to snuggly or something. I may buy a universal hard shell case or something.

I would definitely contact your manufacturer to see what they have to say about it. I forgot to ask, which one do you have? EVGA or another? It was on the EVGA forums that I noticed the complaints of the blotches on the screen... I don't know if the problem affected other manufacturers or not.
Dont have this problem, Advent Vega version.
Can only see something when i press the screen in the middle very hard, never seen it before. does not happen when i dont try to force it!

I have seen in iPhone repair kits a suction-cup thingy that they put on the screen and pull to remove it. By no means am I saying to remove your screen!!! Maybe maybe if you're desperate is to get a suction-plastic thing like found in bathroom wall hangers, and see if you can slightly pull out. If the tablet is warm then any gums or glues may shift a bit allows the screen to settle properly.

Whoa that sounds a little scary. I've just been careful. I removed some of the accessories from my soft case and I'm more cognizant of what direction the tablet faces when I put it in my pocket. I haven't had more issues. It's odds though, none of my other touch screen devices have this issue. Even my old 10in tablet and you'd think a larger screen would be more prone to flexing.
