Searched in this forum, no joy. Other devices came up not applicable. This Sunday's NY Times Sunday Review had large whingieng (Brit) article on the joys of autocorrect. How do I disable this annoying super-nanny in my CM7 NC?
Fixed it.
Settings/Language & keyboard/Android keyboard
1. Input languages: English(United States)
2. Uncheck Quick fixes
3. Uncheck Show suggestions
No more super nanny

New to the forum and to smart phones as well. I got this phone here on Okinawa, Japan, so it a Japanese model. I downloaded the English manual off of the HTC site, and in reading it had instructions on how to change the keyboard from the "phone keypad" to the "qwerty" layout. Unfortunately the instructions from the manual of HOME > MENU, and tap Settings > Language & keyboard > Touch Input--is not accurate for my phone. "Select language", and "iWnn IME" are the only options when I get to the language and keyboard step.
Is there another method I can use to get to the settings? Perhaps I should download an app that would change my keyboard...which one?
Thanks again from this newbie!
Have you tried flashing it with an English ROM??
That would have been my guess
additionally have you tried installing the HTC.IME keyboard??
try swipe or 8 pen
Found an answer. I went to my company systems office and found a guy who has an older 'droid. He looked at mine and found that it didn't have an English keyboard loaded, besides the telephone version. He loaded the "Gingerbread keyboard" off of the Android market. Seems to have fixed it for me. Boy do I have some learning to do! Thanks for your help!
Hello, i have a few general questions, probably about android itselft:
1. is there a way to change blue color of battery and everything else that goes blue to pink/magenta?
2. How can i make "home screen" to rotate to landscape mode?
3. How can i have czech qwerty keyboard or US keyboard with suggestions in czech language?
4. Is it possible to have multiple speech inputs? Czech and english and switch between them? So i can search play store for real racing ie.
5. Is there a way to stop wifi networks from jumping in list? When i go to pub and want to connect to its wifi in keeps switching positions with other networks and it is quite annoying a uncomfortable for me.
1-2 - > i dont think you can do this on stock rom... You'll have to root and find a custom rom that support this

1 - Cannot be done on stock rom.
2 - The only way to do this on stock is to either use : UltimateRotation
Or
Use a Launcher like ApexLaunher or NovaLauncher
3 - I would get an App called : SwiftKey - You can have multiple languages at once, and it supports the most languages I have ever seen in a keyboard. (The link is to the free one, there is a paid version)
4 - Again the multiple speach can be done in SwiftKey, including dictator multiple speach along with the multi-language keyboards.
5 - Not a clue
Hope this helps.
1 is about the theme, I would be surprised you can't do this on the stock ROM once rooted but you have to find where this setting is (or in a config file, or in an apk, something like that). And gooood luck for this, probably that a themer would know.
For the language things, maybe you could create your combination in the advanced settings -> personalized style? Not sure your language is there though... If not, I was using ICS keyboard from the market that supports many languages and there is now a JB version, maybe worth a try.
About the WiFi, you can enter the network's infos manually by clicking on the + in the WiFi config. Not exactly the answer you wanted but a workaround...
My two cents that will hopefully be helpful.
Sent from my Nexus 7 still stock but not for long!
Pretty much everything been answered. I would really vouch for SwiftKey as well, I'm using it for dual languages as well and it picks them up nicely without having to even press a button to switch them like with swype for instance. But I guess if you want a different keyboard for Czech you'd have to switch that tho.
Regarding the wifi, I do believe that once you've remembered a network it will stay at the top...
Is there some way to send suggestion about keyboard to google? I would like to use OOB keyboard. And many people in CZ are used to qwerty.
EDIT: found it in language and input > advanced settings > custom input styles - so probably what johnride meant
Also you cen heve two voice inputs by default - just clik on language when using voice input. Tough i found out my english is really crap for voice recognition.
Still i would like to send suggestions to google about the wifi list, as hitting the right network is not so easy when it is changing under you fingers constantly
Yeah that's what I meant... I am on a french system and I translated wrong sorry!

Hi guys had my phone awhile now its exy model from hong kong the keyboard has a default of Chinese IME input.
Ive downloaded swiftkey app and find it really user friendly I.e less mistakes when I type.
Its not that a notification comes about every time I need to input on a keyboard that bothers me but ive tried to disable every IME option reset it and its greyed out as a unselectable option.
With only swift key board selected this notification still apears ?
Ive gone into the IME apps and forced stopped the Chinese ime app but simply clicking into the google search on the home page cause the input notification again?
Anyone has the same issues?
Since I updated to lollipop, every word I type that isn't typed in English is underlined in red. This is really annoying since I usually type in Dutch. My phone language is English though. Is there an easy solution for this problem? Can I switch this feature off in some way?
Same problem

Hey, I registered just to give you an answer. I have the same exact problem, only I don't type usually in Dutch but in Serbian. My phone language is also English. I'm on Lollipop, I9505.
I found out a way to stop this spell check, and it's only possible, as it seems to me, to change your phone language. I've changed it from English to Serbian, even though I don't like it that way, and underlining has stopped. I thought that it would start to underline English typed words, but it didn't. So, if you consider that an easy and acceptable solution, there you go. I'm still looking for a way to use my phone in English and type in Serbian without that red underlining, just like I used to do before on KitKat. It doesn't make sense to have to change phone language when this is a problem that is related to keyboard settings. If someone knows how to fix this without changing phone language I'd love to know a way to do that.
Hi!
I have the very same problem as I speak with my friends in 4 different languages. After a lot of search I found the solution to completely disable the red underlining: selecting "Alphabet" (QUERTY) as your keyboard language, as I describe below:
1 Download the "Google Keyboard" app from the google Play
2 Go to keyboard settings - in lollypop it is under Settings > My device > Language and Input
3 Enter into "Google Keyboard" to show the google keyboard settings, and then go into "Languages"
4 Disable "Use system language" and ONLY enable "Alphabet (QUERTY)" from the list of languages (you will probably find it between Afrikaans and Arabic)
5 Go back again to Settings > My device > Language and Input, enter "Default" and select "Alphabet (QWERTY)" as default
VoilĂ !

Hey, thanks! That is a fine solution, but only if I wish to use Google keyboard without predictive text and auto replace options since they are gone when selecting "Alphabet (QWERTY)".
I'm quite used to Samsung keyboard and I like having text prediction and auto replace, so I'm still looking for a solution in terms of switching off that annoying spell check but with using Samsung keyboard. :fingers-crossed:
If anyone's still looking for a fix, there's a way - just do the factory reset and the red underlining will be gone. I just did.
A quick search of the internet shows that I am not the only one who has accidentally cleared the Samsung Keyboard app data and wound up with a predictive text capability which was not working. If you find yourself with an empty white box instead of a list of words to choose from, simply do the following:
Keyboard Settings (can be found at the bottom whenever the keyboard is visible) --> Select Input Languages --> English (US)/(UK) can be found under Available Languages. Just select the proper language and it will download the library for use. Back out of the menu, making sure it is selected above, and it will be back to work for you.
