A quick search of the internet shows that I am not the only one who has accidentally cleared the Samsung Keyboard app data and wound up with a predictive text capability which was not working. If you find yourself with an empty white box instead of a list of words to choose from, simply do the following:
Keyboard Settings (can be found at the bottom whenever the keyboard is visible) --> Select Input Languages --> English (US)/(UK) can be found under Available Languages. Just select the proper language and it will download the library for use. Back out of the menu, making sure it is selected above, and it will be back to work for you.

This one mostly goes out to my fellow Swedish forum dwellers but if anyone else has a solution please chime in.
My brother just got himself a Galaxy S, partly on my recommendation. He bought it from a Swedish (we presume) web shop but he seems to be lacking swedish characters from they key map. He is not using Swype but the Samsung keyboard, he changed the phones language layout to Swedish but that wasn't enough.
If you check the keyboard language, its set to "automatic" but he cannot - apart from me, set it to Swedish.
This seems very strange, is it an import phone? And if so - can he add the Swedish language somehow?
This seems strange to me as well. Although I am not an expert, I can say that on my SGS bought from a Norwegian internet store, the samsung keyboard was included with the Norwegian layout. So, I guess, it should be the same for the Swedish phones.
I just downloaded the "Scandinavian Keyboard" on the Market by Trygve Aaberge. It's free and you can also get a dictionary if you want.
1. Open the Android Market App & search for "Scandinavian Keyboard"
2. Download the one by Trygve Aaberge
3. Once installed head over to the keyboard settings
(Settings -> Locale and text //English OS)
4. Enable Scandinavian keyboard and go in its settings right below
5. Select desired language for the "Keyboard layout".
6. A bit further down you can also find "Download dictionary".
7. Choose the dictionary language you want as it sends you to the Android Market with correct filter/search
8. Once installed head all the way back to the Scandinavian keyboard settings.
9. Enable dictionaries and select the language you want.
Now in any field to input text just hold-press/touch until you get the option of choosing "Input Method" and select the keyboard you want. Android will keep using the latest chosen keyboard.

Hello!
I have searched this and found little about it, so I'm gonna ask you about it.
I have LeeDroid HD running Android 2.3.3. I have 2 main issues regarding the sms app: the red dotted line that appears when using words not recognized by the phone (I write my messages in Romanian), and the fact that, when I tap a word in the message (say I typed a wrong character in the middle of it), instead of moving the cursor at that position and allowing me to edit freely, it moves it there, selects the entire word, and presents me options from an English dictionary to choose from as alternatives for the word. When I try to move the cursor back and forth, it navigates the suggestions, and the only way of getting out of them is to tap a white space, then navigating to the needed position with the arrow keys. All the options under Language and keyboard > Touch Input are unchecked (Spell correction, Prediction and Word completion). Am I doing anything wrong? Is it a way to bring back the behaviour of good old 2.2 sms app, or do I need to switch to a custom, less time consuming sms app?
Thank you!
Since I updated to lollipop, every word I type that isn't typed in English is underlined in red. This is really annoying since I usually type in Dutch. My phone language is English though. Is there an easy solution for this problem? Can I switch this feature off in some way?
Same problem

Hey, I registered just to give you an answer. I have the same exact problem, only I don't type usually in Dutch but in Serbian. My phone language is also English. I'm on Lollipop, I9505.
I found out a way to stop this spell check, and it's only possible, as it seems to me, to change your phone language. I've changed it from English to Serbian, even though I don't like it that way, and underlining has stopped. I thought that it would start to underline English typed words, but it didn't. So, if you consider that an easy and acceptable solution, there you go. I'm still looking for a way to use my phone in English and type in Serbian without that red underlining, just like I used to do before on KitKat. It doesn't make sense to have to change phone language when this is a problem that is related to keyboard settings. If someone knows how to fix this without changing phone language I'd love to know a way to do that.
Hi!
I have the very same problem as I speak with my friends in 4 different languages. After a lot of search I found the solution to completely disable the red underlining: selecting "Alphabet" (QUERTY) as your keyboard language, as I describe below:
1 Download the "Google Keyboard" app from the google Play
2 Go to keyboard settings - in lollypop it is under Settings > My device > Language and Input
3 Enter into "Google Keyboard" to show the google keyboard settings, and then go into "Languages"
4 Disable "Use system language" and ONLY enable "Alphabet (QUERTY)" from the list of languages (you will probably find it between Afrikaans and Arabic)
5 Go back again to Settings > My device > Language and Input, enter "Default" and select "Alphabet (QWERTY)" as default
Voilà!

Hey, thanks! That is a fine solution, but only if I wish to use Google keyboard without predictive text and auto replace options since they are gone when selecting "Alphabet (QWERTY)".
I'm quite used to Samsung keyboard and I like having text prediction and auto replace, so I'm still looking for a solution in terms of switching off that annoying spell check but with using Samsung keyboard. :fingers-crossed:
If anyone's still looking for a fix, there's a way - just do the factory reset and the red underlining will be gone. I just did.
I use two keyboards. Grammarly for writing English and Microsoft swiftkey keyboard for Urdu. In other phones, Samsung Infinix, etc. the current keyboard shortcut is below the keyboard. But I didn't find the shortcut current keyboard change in Poco m3.
How do I solve the current keyboard shortcut problem in Poco m3?
To choose the current keyboard, you can pull down from the top (status bar) to see the notifications, when you start typing, and there is one notification that you can tap to choose the input method.
If you do not see this notification, you need to enable the keyboard in the system settings, go to settings, more settings, language and input method, mange input methods, at there you can enable the other keyboards you installed.
