Does leveling the screen help creaking noise and feeling? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, sadly I'm one of many here due to the screen rise problem. Honestly I could live with that... but the issue is the cracking noise and feeling of the screen going down when it gets close to there... like if you wanted to move a widget to the left homepage lol... so I was about to try the heating solution but not sure if that actually fixes the issue for screen noise... I have tried tightening the screws and got itblevel for like 3 minutes... but there was still somewhat of a crack..m

Dust under screen!

Hey all. Just got my desire hd today from carphone warehouse. I love this handset! Best phone I've ever had by a country mile! Only problem is its got something trapped inbetween the screen and digitizer. Looks like dust or a small shard of metal. Really disappointed. I know the desire had this problem but just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem with their hd. It's really annoying as I can't take my eyes of it when using the phone, especially when the screen is on a white background. What do you think peeps, should I return it? , after all I've got it for 2 years.

definitely take it back and get a fresh one, if they don't have any in stock I guess you'll have to be patient, but you can't accept faulty goods.
Yeah, that was my thoughts too. Just don't want to come across ocd! . Love the phone but build quality on these things should be better considering the price of them. Used a hero for the last 18 months and never had any screen issues.

Is it possible to see some pics of that dust under the glass?
Thanks!
BUMP......
Hey guys. Seems most of the posts were deleted during the "clean up". I contacted the mod to get this thread back but it appears half of it is missing. Anyway got my replacement today and It's perfect. Apart from all the known issues!

I got this issue either, and I can't keep my eyes off it!
I propably going back to the shop with it to get a new one, because I just got it a day.
But i'm afraid that they won't see it, because my mother can't see it either.
So maybe I need to ignore it, but will be hard for me
One of the biggest failures of the original Desire in my opinion was the dust that got in under the screen. For an example of the one I sent back with this problem have a look here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTF0fFN5Y60
Now I would HOPE that HTC have learned from this and rectified the problem but I have just been looking at the ads on eBay and noticed this in one of the item descriptions:
"The unit i have at the moment has 1 speck of dust under the screen and i am receiving a replacement unit this week, so the one you will be buying will be brand new"
Seems with this and the experiences of users here that HTC have not resolved this problem after all. A HUGE disappointment as there is no way I could put up with this once I know the dust is there even if it's only visible in certain lighting conditions!
I got one small black dot of dust under my glass. Thought it was a dead pixel at first, but its too high for that upon examination.
May take it back since I paid a lot of money for it.

same i also have just 1 speck at the top right corner, not sure if ill bother replacing, but i do also have a dead pixel at the bottom right corner so its defintely tempting..
I have had many HTC devices over the years and a few have had problems with dust ingress. especially my topaz and c500 where very bad.
The problem was bad sealing around the volume rocker, is this the same problem? or maybe dust has been induced during manufacture of phone?
well mine had dust under the screen from straight out of the box and it wasn't anywhere near the volume rocker

presume it was swapped out without any hassle?
i had the same experience. bought a desire z and after a few weeks a lot of dust has accumulated on the top part of the scree. so i sold it and got a desire hd, im not sure if there were two speck of dusts on top of the screen but now there are. im trying to stop being an oc and fidgeting about these things but i am quite disappointed. had 5 htc phones and this is the first time i experienced this. hopefully it wont get worse.

I'm the same way. I have the smallest piece of dust you could ever see (like half of a pixel). It's actually opposite the volume buttons, and right on the edge where if it was one pixel over to the right more, it would be off the visible screen. You can't even notice it unless you have a pure white background, but I know it's there, and it annoys me. Also after three months with my DHD I just noticed when the screen is on, and I look at the black boarder around the screen (I have to sort of angle it in the light), the right side seems to be off just a bit (there is more screen boarder in between the right side of the screen and the outer black boarder than there is on the left). Like the alignment of the under screen is tilted a bit, but when I have horizontal or vertical lines on the screen, they all line up perfect, and none are cut off like what my eyes would think they would be, so it seems like an optical illusion. Just me and my OCD.

Glass lifting?

Hello,
I've started to notice that the glass on my Inspire 4G is making a slight snapping noise and moving a bit sometimes when I press on the corners, almost as if the glass is lifting slightly over time. Once I press the corners, it is fine for a few minutes, then I can do it again, hearing the snapping noises.
I want to root my phone and install RCMix HD, but I don't want to void my warranty if the glass is going to lift off my screen in a few months. Is anyone else seeing this issue?
Other than this and poor battery life, I absolutely love the phone. It's a HUGE improvement over the xdandroid experience on my Touch Pro 2.
Personally I'd get that sorted before you root. Get onto your network, or HTC if you bought it outright. Sounds like a materials defect, either the adhesive or glass. Let us know how you get on.
I believe I kind of have the same problem... but mine is when I press the top right of my screen it makes a clicking noise, I don't see any other movement in the screen it self, but yeah I haven't done anything to cause this issue.

I ended up replacing mine. The demo unit at the store did the same thing, and mine had gotten to the point where the glass was raised a good 1/16th of an inch. Seems to be a common issue with the Inspires and Desire HD's. I ended up replacing it with an atrix.
Sure hope it doesnt happen with mine Its protected by the otterbox defender though so its always keeping pressure on the phone.

Had this weird snapping in the top right corner myself. Suddenly all touch input stopped working. Got a replacement screen repair from my carrier.

People without "screen lift" issue..

Is the left side identical to the right? Its not raised at all and doesn't creak at all?? I ask because I got my second replacement today and it still has a raised left side and makes noises when I push down on it :/ just wondering if I got unlucky twice in a row or if this is normal...

My left side is identical to the right. No creak. No screen issues what so ever.
When the left side is held at eye level I see a very small sliver which I can not see on the right. I have yet to have the seperation problem with the tablet but this is only my second day of use' I am now peeing my pants but my diaper is the fact I got an extended 3 year warranty from Walmart. So far no problems with it so I'll keep my fingers crossed
The left side of my device pushes down ever so slightly, it's not really enough to annoy me(i wouldn't even give it a second thought if it had not been for other people saying)
Its not normal, in the sense that its shouldnt be there, although a lot of people do have this problem.
Heres a fix (not tested myself) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29422550&postcount=1

Okay I just wasn't sure if I was being super anal about it or if it really did have screen lift, guess I got unlucky 3 times hopefully the next one is good!!
I really haven't noticed anything like this with my wife's N7. I'll pay attention to it tonight and post if I notice it now.
No lift here, both sides identical.
Maybe i just got really unlucky with three in a row I was hoping it was that and it wasn't that minor screen lift was standard.. like someone earlier described, from one side at eye level, i see the silver of the casing, on the other side i just see the screen, people without screen lift see the silver on both sides??
No screen separation here so far so good

I still think it is a misnomer calling it a screen separation. Screen is perfectly flat. My left side bezel dips down a bit. It is just plastic; no big deal. Has no effect on functionality.

I am on number 2.
I have RMA'd my original, got the second and it still has the screen lift but worse then my original.
So I am RMAing my replacement.
I will do this until I get a good one.
I flash a lot of roms and have plenty of backups. So having my N7 setup is not a thing.
The only good thing with Googles RMA process is that you are never without a N7.
So on to the next.

Do I have the screen lift problem?

I have owned the C9O for 2 days and believed that the infamous screen lift problem wouldn't concern me. Well, tonight I noticed the edge on upper left side of my screen was slightly (and I mean less than a hairline) above the chrome bezel and had little room to be pressed down.
I wonder if I am the latest victim of this design flaw. So far I am hearing no creaking or popping sounds. Does this merit an exchange and if not, will the issue get worse?

Don't worry. If you have to ask, don't worry. Don't forget that you have a year warranty if it gets worse.
Mine has a lift too, I'm going to enjoy it until they fix the issues and then if it gets worse, I'll deal with it then.

What is the adverse effect of screen lifting?

Guys my nexus 7 32gb having a very little screen lifting at the left hand middle side. It looks odd if someone noticed very minutely. There is several fix. But I did not find any data regarding adverse effect of it? Can it cause damage anyway to my device? May it cause cracking of the glass. Is it important to fix the lifting? Please advise.

Mine has had slight lift since august, no issue with anything propagating from that point. Lift has not increased.

You can always exchange it for a new one if u are in the return/exchange period of the retailer store.

I have a very light one on the left side about midway down. You can only notice it if you put the tablet sideways you can see the bezel dispears behind the slight lift, hasn't made a difference yet and hasn't got bigger.
I dont see why it should make a difference, but after paying quite a bit for a device you expect it to be perfect.
