[APP] SugarSync, the best Dropbox alternative. 5GB free storage - Optimus One, P500, V Themes and Apps

Hey guys, I recently just decided to join the Dropbox/ Cloud storage initiative. I found the best possible Cloud storage service called SugarSync.
The best thing about it, is that unlike Dropbox, You can sync any folder on your pc, as well as having a Universal folder that syncs with every device like Dropbox.
The second best thing is that you get 5GB of storage instead of 2GB, and upto 32GB through referrals, unlike 16GB in Dropbox.
The last thing I love is that with SugarSync you can Sync entire folders with your phone unlike Dropbox, where you can only sync a file at a time.
Anyway instead of me talking about it have a try for yourself. Just click on this link SugarSync, to get 5.5GB storage instead of the 5GB that comes with it, or click the link in my Signature.
Hope you like it as much as I do.

I still prefer box. It gives you 50 gb of storage if u use lg phones

Oh ok, well if that's true, that would be good, but besides that all the features SugarSync gives is pretty awesome =)

Problem with box.net is that it has no PC sync, some people like me really can't live without that... having the same music on a laptop, a PC and my phone, with no effort
Also my C++ projects are on it, so I can.work on them anytime, without a usb stick, and then download in class
So I use dropbox

And the 100mb upload limit is ridiculous. So far Sugarsync to me seems the best option, beter then dropbox definately. Try it for yourselves anyway...

i'll try this one out anyway.

Yea, also dropbox linux version is actually a lot worse than using it on wine, it installs 3 different things to make it work with gnome or whatever, but normal wine version just works, although the icon in status bar up look lot worse

Are you currently running Windows 7? You can just install Windows 8 on another partition and browse the partition with music in Windows Explorer. If you're upgrading (not recommended), then you can just upgrade and keep everything intact.

so?? you've got the same problem?
Lol I'm glad I downloaded the google music beta
It uploaded my entire itunes library before I tried out windows 8 and it works beautifully streaming from the cloud.
That was one of the things stopping me from trying it out was that I would've had no music but now all is well

Since my Fire is not rooted, I installed the Drive app on my Droid-X phone and then created an apk file and transferred it to my Fire using Dropbox.
The Drive app installed ok on the Fire but when I try to run it, it says "Cannot find any Google accounts, exiting application" and then it quits. No way to get into the settings for the app.
I'm not sure how to get around this. I have my Gmail setup on the Fire. What other Google account would it be looking for?

Personally I use Google Drive + Google Music for my tunes. Frankly the integration makes it a no brainer to me. That isn't to say it would be best for everyone but for my uses it's perfect. However most people will tell you to sign up for all of them and use them all then pick one. After all you can never have too much free cloud storage. And that will allow you to try them before you go Premium, if in fact that is something you were considering. I know Dropbox is great too. Cubby invites were all the rage here lately but I have never tried it. There's a thread. It would probably help you get better recommendations if you told us what you plan on using the service for.
i use Dropbox.. got over 100+Gigs because i have a GS3 + One X and a few other reasons.. i also use Google Drive + Google Music and all other Google cloud features
New accounts only get 2GB of space tho
currently i use google drive and dropbox. i think the free space on those services will increase in the future because there is a lot of competition
Google Drive
Dropbox
Amazon Cloud
I use them all, but 4share is my preferred one.

This :good:
Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, SkyDrive ......
It depends what you need, for pure file storage dropbox or google drive are probably the best.
If you are looking to stream media from a cloud then I am not sure what is best here. Anyone have any suggestions for streaming media (files that I own already rather than other options)
i use:
dropbox
skydrive
box
sugarsync
cubby
google drive/gmail
they're unique in their own way, but generally similar; free with paid extras. i have about 115GB+ of free online storage, so no need for any paid versions. i suggest try a few out and see which service suits your needs best.
I use Wuala. I think it's reasonably priced and there's a bonus that everything's encrypted!
Thanks everyone! What I would like to do is stream home pictures and videos. Any of these good for this?

I like the idea of my data being on my own systems. As a result, I set up ownCloud on my Linux server in my basement (tho I believe a Windows variant exists). With the help of DDNS which provides me with a URL, along with some port forwarding, I basically have my own web address I can access from anywhere and log in to my ownCloud server. You are limited only by your hard drive space. I'm currently rockin a 300GB personal cloud server. I'll be looking at 6TB once I get my new drives in for the RAID 5 array I plan to set up.
On the same server I also have Subsonic running. I paid the couple bucks donation fee (10 to 15 or so) to unlock the full mobile license with the mobile app for Android, iOS, etc. There again, using my DDNS URL I tied Subsonic's Android app into my server at home. I can now stream all of my media straight from my box at home.
In short:
For music and media - Subsonic
For everything else - ownCloud
The future plan: 6TB for personal cloud usage for music, pictures, videos, documents? Oh yes. :good: Even my current 300GB setup is significantly more than I would get with any free service elsewhere. I'll take it.
total win.
Another mod for subsonic for your own cloud media server.

I'm quite fond of Ubuntu One myself. I use it for auto-uploads of my pictures on my phone. Since Ubuntu is on all of my systems, once I fire up my laptop, desktop, whatever it auto syncs locally. Of course, Dropbox does this too, but U1 also gives me 5GB to boot. I assume Dropbox is still @ 2GB for starters?
I use Dropbox, Google Drive, Sugarsync, Ubuntu 1, Amazon MP3 and Google Play Music. All serve a purpose and all get used. 16GB is not enough. Cloud storage is critical for me. Ubuntu 1, Dropbox and Play Music are the best imo.

I'd stay away from CX.com. I was sucked in by the amount of free storage they allowed, but in the process of backing up my files more than half of the files on my hard drive were deleted. I did extensive searching, and they were not moved - they were gone. I emailed CX a half dozen times begging for help, hoping it was part of their backup process and that they could help me easily restore the files. I never got a response to any of my emails, and when logged into my account the dashboard said I had no outstanding inquiries - my emails to tech support disappeared just like my files.
In the end I had to go through 500 folders, each with 3-5 subfolders and many files in each one, to find the stuff that had been erased and individually download them back to my PC. There wasn't even a way to DL the folders with all their contents; I had to DL each and every one, one at a time.
Steer clear, and good luck.

Want to buy Nexus 7 but have some questions

Hi,
I'm quite eager to get the nexus 7. I do have a few questions though. Firstly, I'm planning to use it to word processing and some reports on the way home. The issue I have is that the nexus 7 doesn't have Polaris Office which is what I really want to use. Is there any way to get it and how do the alternativies stack up? Its essentials that I'm able to make and edit word 2007 documents. Secondly, is the screen big enough to do so? It seemed ok to me but just want people's opinions. Thirdly, I've heard its very rooter friendly but lets say I root.. Is it possible to get Polaris Office.. Also, any idea about when the free google play credit offer is till? This is something I really want. Lastly, I've heard there are going to be some keyboard cases for the nexus 7 but is there one already?
Thanks
Sean
Personally I wouldn't dream of using this thing for work. If you want a tab for working too you can't beat the Asus Transformer range in my opinion. This thing is clearly aimed at media consumption and does not lend itself to productivity.
But! That's just my opinion. Yours might differ. My advice is try one out for a couple of hours first. You might hate it, or love it.

I haven't tried any office suites to edit things on the run, but I do use it regularly through the Citrix Receiver connection to our work servers, and that works well, so, unless you need larger DPIs or anything like that, it will be fine for business stuff.
Unfortunately, it seems that Polaris Office is licensed as OEM only on certain devices. So we cant provide any links to apks or anything, as it would be classed as warez.
Check out this thread h t t p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085173 (Sorry, still cant post links), it compares the different Android office apps.

With a BT keyboard the Nexus 7 would work fine for editing documents. I'd suggest checking out Google Drive before purchasing a suite of office software, though. Give it a go on your PC and phone, see how it works for you and make a decision from there.

What's that suppose to mean? Why don't you use google play store? There's lots of free apps on there. The play store is the best feature of android. Also asking for pirated sites are against forum rules.

Just pull the apk from your S3 and move it to other devices. Profit.
I'm pretty sure I have polaris office backed up in titanium backup from my flyer, as I backed up everything, copied it to my PC, then wiped so I could send it off to the eBay buyer. Dunno how well it would work though as the flyer was honeycomb

How exactly would I do that? Sorry but I've only had android for 2 weeks lol.
Thanks
Sean
Well you'll need root access on your s3 to do it. Obtaining root is different on every device so you'll have to check the s3 forums for info on how to do that and then you'll need a file explorer such as root explorer to access the files. You'll need to navigate to system/apps and the apk file will be in there. Talk the mount button on top of the screen to mount the folder and read / write, then copy it, paste it in your sd folder, and then plug the s3 in the PC, pull the file off, and then copy it on to your sd card on your nexus 7. Disconnect, make sure "install from unknown sources" is checked in settings, and navigate to the file using a file explorer, tap on it and it should install it like any other app
