Night Vision Mode? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

in the past I've used Cyanogen color profiles to set my android phone to red pixels only to make reading at night more pleasant. I tried the CM ROM for the nexus 7 and couldn't seem t find a similar setting.
Does anyone know what I am talking about? Is there any way to get this working?

I don't know specifically what you're talking about but it takes some time to bring features from older to newer versions of CM. CM9 didn't even get all of the features of CM7 yet and now they're working on CM10.

CyanogenMod 6 with Vignette App

anyone here has CM 6 rom with the Vignette app on their EVO?
i set the megapixels to 8 and it does not take it in full 8mp resolution but when using stock evo rom it does
anyone else experiencing this issue?
i was told maybe it could be the heap size but that is set to 24mb on CM by default
you mean it doesnt in cm? you say it does for both. if it doesn't its probably because most of cm6 is from the nexus one and a lot of work still needs done which is why its not officially released yet. the fact that the camera works at all is amazing piece of work done by that team. give them time and im sure they will get everything working. again, remember, the cm6 for the evo is not even alpha. it is not even released. we are all flashing and enjoying their initial work in progress. they make and commit work and a bot creates a build every night whether it is a functional rom or not. thats why it says experimental really really big because god knows what your going to get with each new build.

Tried CM 6.0 for 2 hours and restored to FRG83 stock

I was expecting better performance out of CM 6. however other than yes there are a lot of tweak settings, functionally, there's nothing to gain from nexus one's stock rom. I've seem people say CM has better performance than stock at youtube. but maybe it's just me, I see no differences.
damn where's the google 2.3? still no details on what will be in it.
I love being able to rotate any direction, the RenderFX widgets, changing the haptic feedback, easy access to useragent switching in the browser, application moving to SD card, trackball wake, status bar changes, etc.
To each his own I suppose.
Do you think you can notice a difference in 2 hours?
Give it at least a week then give it a proper critique. Also, Cyanogen is not 100% new code, it is based on AOSP.
It does everything stock does and more. What's the logic of going back to stock?
For god's sake, at least try the newest nightly before talking...6.0 is old stuff and doesn't even contain the 2.2.1 update...at LEAST 6.1 RC1...
there are NO reasons to go back unless you are just too lazy to pass 1 hour configuring it the first time you install...

I too tried CM 6.1 RC1 and returned to PureFroyo Kernal + Geo's FRG83D within about a day. While I'm not running fully stock, it's very close.
I just found that the bat life on CM was not as good as on the Stock ROM or Geo's FRG83D. For example, with stock, moderate usage from the morning to early afternoon would bring me down to around 80%. With CM, I was down to about 70% in roughly the same amount of time.
yes. I will try 6.1 final gold.

Honestly, Once you throw Launcher Pro on any rom it pretty much runs the same. The only differences between roms are the small ones.
MIUI has the a different SMS, Unlock Screen, Toggles in the Pull Down Menu, and a few others. I don't like the iPhone approach, nor the menu's.
CM is mostly stock with a lot of tweaks. I really like the Toggles position in the pull down and the ability to add/remove/reposition toggles as well as the ability to change the taskbar colors on the fly. You can add multiple recipients to SMS/MMS messages. The browser options are awesome having them so handy. Built-in Colored Notification Support. Audio Adjustments. etc etc.
One thing I do (since I like a minimalistic install too) is use Launcher Pro and hide some of the nonsense apps I will never use... or set up once and forget/hide.
Geo does have a good rom but the drop down menu toggles and the taskbar themes sold me. Now I can change my taskbar color to match my wallpaper (white, grey, or black usually) and the taskbar toggles save homescreen estate. Quite nice.
I also am getting hella good signal. My work is in a basement. CM 6.1 RC1 is the first rom that I can actually get calls and text messages down there. Normally I get nothing so it is a huge improvement.
Battery life seems improved for me too coming from Geo's, and Rod-MIUI. Normally I take the phone off the charge at 8am and it's dead by 7pm. Now its good all night with 20% left by bedtime.
After rooting I jumped on CM6 because of the reviews but I couldn't get the GPS to work to save my life. I tried that fix w/ GPS status to no avail. So I flashed Geo's ROM and never looked back. It is definitely the most stable ROM. And you get great support from Geo, he answers all your questions. He updated to FRG83D within 3 hours of its release!
Are the GPS issues fixed in 6.1 RC1?
I used to run CM6 nightlies before switching to MIUI. I miss a lot of features from CM, mostly the CM settings tweaks (limiting rotation to 0 and 90 degrees, integrated trackball settings, hold volume to skip songs, haptic tweaks, and changing the application launched from holding home button); but in the end, I love the new features MIUI brought (namely the notification bar, top-bar battery indicator, lock screen launchers, and vastly improved settings UI). I also find the battery lasts way longer than CM did, even after overclocking (to be fair, I am using a different kernel so I'm sure that helps).
Two WHOLE hours? Wow, you must be exhausted from your heavy trials.
The trackball wake is enough to sell it on me. The pull down menu controls that were added in 6.1 are just icing. Even if you don't use all the features, there are enough different features where almost anybody can find a few improvements over stock Android in Cyanogen.
i've been extremely happy with CM 6.1 RC1, i agree that 6.0 was no faster and maybe in some areas slightly slower than the current stock rom but the extra little features and the freedom to run root apps seals the deal for me anyday but then again i've been running cyanogen roms for a very long time (i was one of the first people with a G1)
The problem with CM6.X is that it ship with a crappy kernel IMHO. If you install wildmonks latest kernel (2.6.35.8_AVS-950mV_CFS_AXI_720p_1152MHz_112010) you'll never see a nexus as fast as this.
After that, you use SetCPU to have screen off profiles and you overclock you phone to the max.
I get easily 10 hours more of battery than stock froyo and and froyo fells like eclair compare to my setup (speed wise)
To be honest I didn't like it at first and did what you did, and went back to stock. But then a week later I tried it again and realized it was pretty awesome. I am running stock now just for the 2.3 update but will root again and put cm on there once I get updated...give it more time.

[Q] Backlight issue with Sense 3.0

Im at a loss for words and troubleshooting. I can not seem to figure this one out. I have posted my issue in the ROMs thread and am getting help but no whammy!
Here is the issue I got tired of running an AOSP ROM and wanted to try something new so Im currently running Team Nocturnal Shooter ROM with sense 3.0! Im enjoying this ROM except for one thing.... When I go outside I cannot see the damn screen cause its sooo dim and dull. I get no backlight. I have turned auto brightness off and kept it all the way up. I have even flashed a different kernel Im now running the new chop suey and I still have no luck I have done so many different wipes and flashes my head is doing the exorcist over here. Im very frustrated and very upset because Its only happening on Sense based ROMS. Last night I was up till 5am flashing multiple AOSP ROMS and some MIUI and CIUI ROMS. When I used those after letting the screen lock I went to unlock it and it was dim with no light this is the issue!
Please any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated I really would like to give sense a run for a bit.
My phone was rooted many years ago when it first came out its an older Evo never got any OTA updates always got my updates through CM7 which is what Ive always ran...Im just ready for a change
im not sure about team nocturnals shooter rom but i've seen this with virus's, energy and mik 3.0 (i know i know its sense 2.1+3.0) but there have been some backlight tweaks built in from rcmix (from personal experience on energy and mik's im sure there are otehr that use it) that help tweak it if ur interested in trying those. personally i have used switchpro which has a shortcut to change brightness to what ever levels i want so i have it go 20 (indoor) 40 (outdoor) to auto (for when im lazyyy lol) and usually i can see i fine then
or maybe its time for some ics
Please please good sir point me in the right direction I gave mik a shot and virus but didnt find this tweak to help is switchpro an app and what is ICS I been stuck in the land CM for way to long Im stuck in the ruins of the AOSP battlelands... Please good sir...point me in the right direction Im so stressed! 2 days of trying to figure this out
I am using NRGs energy rom... its a sense 3.0... i love it very stable, iv not had any issues with it. my screen brightness is very adjustable and i am able to see it in all differnet conditions.
Every sense ROM I flash it boots up I have backlight then once the screen locks and I go to unlock it its dimmed out again and it never adjusts and I cant adjust it
switchpro is an app that acts as the same as the power widet( i think thats what htc calls it). you can customize it to fit what you want there such as flashlight, wifi sleep policy so and so forth. there are a few others like it on the market which you can consider i believe switchpro was on sale or something usually why i buy an app.
ICS = Ice cream sandwich aka 4.0.x
Latest and greatest to come out of google. Basically its what cm and what not will be based off as soon as it gets past the development hurdles that all of our wonderful developers are working on currently. so if you liked aosp you can stick with it too.
now that you say its becoming more of an across the board issue maybe the proximity/light sensor is acting wonky which would explain your issue more than a rom problem.
I went and used an ICS ROM JTG latest installment and Im running with no issues at all

[Q] Zipnets ROM rebooting/restarting mytouch 4g automatically

I've installed Zipnet's ICS on my mytouch 4g and now my phone sometimes reboots by itself. its doing it numerous times. When I turn off screen, and just try to turn back on, the buttons would light up, but the screen is still off. And then after a few moments, it restarts.
Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks
I've had that problem with a lot of older ICS ROMs. Try something newer or at least a newer kernel.
Do you have a recommended ICS Rom that I should look into? I'm currently using Zipnet's v.4.05. Also, for the kernel, do I have to look for one that is specifically used on ICS? or can any kernel do? Sorry I'm still new to these things,
Thanks

Kernels are Android version specific. You'll need an ICS kernel. I would hate to recommend a ROM because I don't want to insult any dev's. Also, I don't try them all.
Look for anything released within the last month.
Here is a rundown of some ROM types.
AOSP: Also called "Vanilla." Pure or as close to pure Google source as possible. Not really any extra frills.
AOKP: AOSP plus tweaks and mods. These ROMs will contain the ROM Control app and are very customizable. Includes changable battery icons with ROM Control.
CM9 - Compiled (at some point) from CyanogenMod 9 source. Contains AOSP plus CM tweaks and extras including cpu control and power widget in status bar.
Sense 3.6/4: ICS Sense. 3.6 is a little more bloated than Sense 4, but both are nice. Camera does not work yet, but devs are hard at work on this as usual.
MIUI v4: MIUI allows themes galore as well as backup/restore between versions. Weekly updates.
Some others you might look into are MexDroidMod, Paranoid Android and DianXin.

[Help] Getting my N7 next week...

I'm getting my N7 next week and I already decided not to run stock JB, but to root and install some of the kernels and roms already posted in dev. section.
Since I haven't been following those forums I'm a bit confused with so much choice, so I thought you could help wich kernel/rom to install.
So far, I think that motley kernel and smooth rom are the ones, but I hope you guys will make or break for me, since you've got more experience with the device.
Thanks!
I'm running Hyperrunner's Glazed Jellybean 2.0 with the included Franco kernel, and used PmR 2.0 for some additional tweaks, and I have to tell you, I'm loving this combo!. I've used/tried many rom and kernel combinations, and can honestly say I haven't found one much more polished than this.

Paranoid Android; I hate the phone-style of the buttons in the center, can't reach them all with my thumb and it's really annoying since you'll be hitting the home button a lot in applications. Paranoid Android fixed that by letting me choose the tablet setting for that.
Also, what I noticed, is that apps are often build with two resolutions in mind; 360px and 720px. As the phablet mode tells the app it needs to use 600px, it will automatically scale down to 360. With Paranoid Android you can change that manually to 720
Which is also a nice toggle if your tablet gets older and can't seem to run all games anymore; you just set it to 360px for a little more FPS.
Although I'm hearing a lot from users here they are using glazed rom because it's the fastest and smoothest. Haven't noticed any stutters or lag on PA, and how smooth is smooth? It's just all down to launcher animations nowadays.
