The numbers don't match up?! - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I went to dl my copy of transformers and got a memory full message... figured "no problem, I'll uninstall 2 games and call it a day"
well, when I looked at "Storage" under settings it shows:
Total Space : 13.24GB (makes sense for a 16GB unit)
Apps: 4.53 GB (seems ok)
Pictures, Videos: 52.40MB (seems right)
Audio: 30.23MB (so far so good)
Downloads :21.6MB (ok)
Available: 3.32?!
now, my math isn't the best, but shouldn't it report double that?
update... and as quickly as I typed my question, I seem to have answered it... Gameloft games that I uninstalled left GBs of crap

Ran out of memory already?

Hi All,
This is my second day with the phone, and i've already ran out of memory.
I have installed facebook panel and slideshow panel and google maps. That's all.
I've sent a couple of emails and received a few texts.
My stats show:
Storage:
Total 283.20 MB
In Use 283.20 MB
Free 0.00 MB
Program:
Total 200.48
In Use 74.82
Free 125.66
Any idea how I can free up some room?
Have you been browsing alot? If so clear out your cache.
Yes, i've been browsing a lot. Mainly facebook in the evenings. I've cleared out the Opera and IE cache... still maxed out though...
Also, there is 24MB (approx) worth of music installed in the stock rom. see my documents\my music
thanks for the reply. I will make sure i delete it all!
Also, do i need to regularly delete text messages to ensure i save space?

Text messges take up next to nothing unless you have thousands?
I really don't know why you have so much mem taken up on your handset. I have the same installed as you along with TomTom, G-Alarm, Finger Keyboard 2 etc and I have about 103 Mb free. There must be something going wrong somewhere. Do you have all pics and movies shot with the cam getting stored on the MicroSD? Is something installed on your MicroSD saving on your internal memory maybe?
Vids
I don't know about you but on my Voda UK Xperia there was almost 50MB of vids too on the internal memory, (A James Bond trailer and some jazz vids) I got rid of those. Removed the crappy music that was on there, deleted some of the images in the pictures folder.
Even after over a month and with all my apps installed to the internal memory, blackstone volume, taskmanager, mp3trimmer, dialer and even some custom mp3 ringtones, I STILL have 139.20MB free.
Edit: P.S. and you storage is actually a bit larger than mine: Mine only registers at 277.85MB total. My program memory is hte same though, 200.48Mb.
wow, max out the phone storage~
Well, it's sorted. I restarted the phone, which took it down by 1mb or so which gave me enough memory to start clicking programs.
I think it is because I went to the youtube website and it started buffering a video via the 3G connection (that is when the problem started).
I deleted all the temp internet files and it's corrected itself now (i hope).
Install stuff on the memory card, perhaps? Leave the faster internal mem for cache stuff hehe

Tower Defense from Color Stone ?

Anyway tried this SW on HD2 ? Is it working flawlessly ?
Thanks
Anyone tried it ?
It can run but on easy mode at level 99, it will show unexpected error.
No issue on my device. Manage to reach 100 level (easy) and game over then. Fail to defense the big boss.
l managed to get to level 300 + on easy without any problems, just need to load .NET CF 3.5 and chainfire 3d driver. Only problem is that it will have an error if you save the game and try to reload it, says the device does not have enough memory.
I played it for countless hours without any problems. I have .net 3.5 and chainfire's driver.
Have .net 3.5 ... game always crashing at level 99/100
Hi. On my Omnia II is just the same. 99/100 and unexpected error. Apparently it is a game problem.
Works flawlessly and very addictive on my HD2
GG
Do you guys install on the main memory or storage card?
I realised that if you install on storage, the memory usage goes up after playing for awhile )well...about 5-10 mins). However, this is not the problem if installed on the main memory (however it does mean that more internal storage space is being used up).
same for me, crashes at 99, I have I have .net 3.5 and chainfire's driver.
But it's on my storage card, so maybe......!
But I had the same problem on my toshiba TG01, crash at lvl 99
All you have to do is select the "endless" difficulty and no crash occurs. The only problem that happens to me is "Saving crash" but the game saves anyway...
The next version is due out next month, the version 1.1 and 1.3 crash on random *99 levels. Mine crashes on 299, you will get a email from them to download the free update
1.3 is out now. Not sure if there is any difference. Still looks the same. After beating level 100 the excitement is gone. It needs more levels.

I originally install on the internal storage and then get pocket mechanic
to move it to the sd card. does not work properly if you just install it directly to the sd, perhaps this is why mine plays up to 300+ levels.
I reached level +1000 in endless mode ... (Only with a little "cheat" / changes in the .xml files)

tell me to i want more moneyyy
anyway it crashes verry often @ my hd2, just gives an windows error where you can chose between exit and details.. if i click on details it says i dont have enuf free mem but i have 65 mb free on program mem and 2gb on storage card (installed insite phone mem)
i saw somewhere that there will be an update released in march! that would fix the crashes.. according to color stone
did you guys all pay $15 for it or is there somewhere to get it at a good price?
I think it's supposed to be much cheaper via the Marketplace, but I only discovered this after paying $14.99.
But IMHO it's not worth it - the game could be truly great but fundamentally it only has 2 maps/levels (although with serial waves of attackers on each).
This would be OK, as unlike other versions you can affect the path invaders follow - but it gets fairly repetitive after 20 minutes and then crashes at level 99. Every time.
I've tried all updates and install locations mentioned.
Cplor Stone promise an update/crash fix in a reply on Facebook, but they have no support forum or news elsewehere...

My Device Storage space issue, **SOLVED**

In an earlier thread of mine about my Device Storage (Lack Of). I want to share with you all, especially as this issue appears to be a common theme running through the forum, how I came about resolving mine.
I suddenly came to a situation whereby my phone was showing 0.00mb of Free Device Memory, annoying popup messages, not being able to install anything to the phone etc. Even though, since getting the phone, I'd installed virtually everything to SD card. I totally could not understand it?
I know I'm running the crappy UK o2 1.43 ROM, but surely this wasn't entirely to blame? One of these days I'll pluck up the courage to update the ROM. Bad memories on this score with my old Omnia i900.....!
Turns out that after downloading & viewing several youtube videos over a period of time and which I thought I'd deleted after viewing, were in fact being stored in a folder on the phone, thus taking up my valuable device memory.
If anyone views online videos then it might be worth trying this.
Launch File Explorer and navigate to: Windows>>Opera 9>>Profile>>Download. I had approaching over 100mb of valuable device storage space stored in this file. After deleting these video files I now have 119+mb of free device storage space. No more annoying pop up messages!
I'm not saying this is a fix for everyone who has device memory issues, but its worth checking out, especially if you view on-line vids.
Just wondered if this had helped anyone?
I watched few youtube vids as well and my storage is 0.00. It had ~15 MB of stuff, but no youtube vids, deleted, thanks.
I'm doing a bit of "spring cleaning" myself, and have just freed up a bit of extra space. I was just wondering how you managed to get youtube videos in an Opera 9 download folder? (I'm just about to check that folder myself)
Speaking of youtube, where are the vids stored, if I watch them through that HTC app?

This is a mystery to me as well. All I know is that when I select a youtube video online the video player that HD2 uses (not sure what this player is, it certainly isn't WMP?) then gives me three options, which are: Open, Save & Cancel. I always select open. I then have to wait maybe 2 or 3 mins until a green download bar has reached 100%, this signifies that the video has been downloaded. I'm then able to view the video. After viewing I select an icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. This gives me a further 2 options, which are: Delete & Remove All Completed. I select delete.
There must have been occasions where I haven't selected delete, or forgotten to, and these are the videos I found being stored in the Download folder within Opera 9.
With my old Omnia i900 when I selected a video to view, WMP immediately opened up and began buffering the video. I would maybe have to wait, at the most, 10 seconds for the video to buffer. I was then able to view the video. I certainly didn't have to actually download the video as I appear to be doing now. I would much rather be using WMP as the viewing time is much quicker. I don't want to use the player the HD2 seems to use by default. But how do I get videos to play through WMP?
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Help on this much appreciated.
Yes I am also facing problem with memory. When I try to watch any youtube video through the HTC application I get the message ' memory is full' I donot have a folder called download within the opera folder.

How to re- claim internal storage space from failed installs or uninstalled apps!

Have you recently uninstalled an app to find that that either no storage space has been freed or worse, more has been taken up or you have attempted to install an app, it did not work but it appears to have taken up storage space? Read on...
Oh yeah, and you will need root... but your on XDA so,
Recently I got a nasty surprise when I attempted to install Dolphin Engine Beta .
I use Opera Mini, as this is incredibly lightweight and compresses data very well, meaning that it is not only good for less data consumption, but it is really speedy at loading web pages. 5* app for a HTC Dream, or any other low power phone.
Unfortunately, Opera Mini is obviously not too powerful, especially in the HTML5 area, as it scores just 63 (no bonus points) out of 500 at the time of writing.Chrome however, scores 371 + 11 out of 500, but I'm running CM6.1, Froyo. Looking down the list, There are no other web browsers that my phone can run other than Opera Mobile 12.00, but that's 13Mb -ish, and probably not too quick.
Then I looked at the "development or beta" section, and noticed Dolphin Engine Beta right at the top of the list with a whopping 450 + 3 points.
I researched it, and it was meant to be a quick browser, so I thought I might give it a go.
After repeatedly getting messages saying I did not have enough internal storage space, I tried again, and the install carried on for a bit longer...
Until the installing bar finished for the ultimate anticlimax of...
"Application not installed"
I thought, "grr, oh well, what was I thinking, I'm using a G1".
And then the ultimate horror!
You know that lovely message you get when you have around 9Mb of free space left....
Yeah. :crying:
I had began with around 18Mb (after I had uninstalled some crap I didn't need)
I now had between 8Mb and 9Mb.
I rebooted. Multiple times. Still had around 8Mb of internal storage left.
I had created no backup, and after looking under Settings>Apps>Manage Apps , /system/app and /data/app I was 100% certain that the app had in fact not installed, anywhere.
So where the hell was it, and how was it using up 9Mb of my phone's internal memory?
After some research, I cannot for the life of me remember exactly where, but somewhere, in an archived XDA thread, somebody had recommended an app called SD MAid
I thought "What the hell" and installed it on my phone. I was skeptical at first because it's called "SD Maid", so I assumed it meant SD card maid, for cleaning up your SD Card.
BUT NO
After opening the app and allowing superuser permissions, I had a peek in the "Corpse finder" tab....
Turns out I had a few dead bodies in my basement...
1 or 2 of them had a few words like "Dolphin" in them... I had hit the jackpot!
I then proceeded to select "clean all", and within a short space of time I had regained my internal storage space !!!
WOOOOHOOO!
So, if you need clarification or you skipped my hugely interesting story ....
1) Install SD MAid
2) Rate the app 5*
3) Open the app
4) Allow Superuser permissions
5) Select the "Corpse finder" tab at the top
6) Click "check"
7) Be patient (or is it just 'cause I'm using a HTC Dream? )
8) curse at the dead bodies and....
9) Give them a good clean.. select "Clean all"
10) See how the "yous is having no storage space" message disappear
11) Smile!
And of course....
I take absolutely NO credit for this app, it is NOT mine, just go to the Play Store and give it 5* for making you a happy bunny
Give the developer a :highfive:
Click the "Thanks" button for me if you really want, but... I am just a messenger for this app so be sure to thank the dev. of SD Maid first!

incorrect available storage

EDIT - I found my issue. There was an app storing a large amount of data that was not showing up in the storage setting chart for some reason. I do want to share how I tracked it down. I used the app "DiskUsage" (in the google play store), which I saw mentioned after more searching....
Moderators, please remove if you find this unnecessary or unhelpful.
I'm a noob to using this site, so I cannot determine if I'm supposed to be able to upload an image here. So no screenshot, but I'll give you the numbers instead. My phone seems to be showing incorrect available storage. I have the 32Gb Moto X Pure. Just got it last week. Stock, unrooted. It shows:
24 GB Total Space
1.61 gb Available
6.38 gb Apps
17.07 MB pictures,videos
216 KB Audio
8 kb downloads
331 MB cached data
149MB miscellaneous
I do have an SD card that seems to be showing correct data usage. It's a 64GB card, using about 3GB. Chart seems to be correct
I moved a lot of apps over to external storage when I started getting out of storage prompts. Then I waited for everything to load int he storage settings and noticed that the usage is way off. Has anyone seen this on the Moto X Pure and can help with what I could possibly do to fix it (without root if possible)? I searched here and on other sites and could not find anything definitive. Maybe I missed it. Please advise.
Thanks in advance...
