Awaiting my Nexus 7 directly from Google Play and I've been reading these forums. Has anyone, who purchased their Nexus 7 16gb from Google Play (Who's in the UK), had any issues with screen lifting, flickering or any other issues or is it just NA? If this is the case I will cancel my order and wait for the new Sony Xperia Tablet (Apparently selling for £250 in september). Thanks
Thanks
I've had two 8gb from play UK and both have had screen lift to a certain extent. Second one less so which I will keep.
If I was you I would buy in a shop just to be on the safe side.

I had 2 from the play store in UK.
The first had a small amount of screen lift but got it replaced because of a faulty gyro (wouldn't rotate).
The replacement is perfect so far.
Ok thank you, what is googles support like? Will the collect the item at their expense if it's faulty?

Well my wallet still isn't showing that the replacement was shipped and I still haven't received a shipping label to send it back.
In fact no communication whatsoever from google since they received the replacement order.

Thank you for that information, I've cancelled my order. Will be buying it directly from Carphone Warehouse tomorrow morning. Guess I should have from the start. They even provide free delivery, not that I need it.
Hey,
Is anyone be able to get replacement from playstore, if so is it pending or did you got the tracking number?
Since I got the device has a cracked close to the camera, I place a replacement yesterday and still didn't got my tracking number its showing as pending. When I place replacement order the CSR told me that they have enough device for replacement. Today I called them whats going on, and they are telling me that they don't have stock so its basically we are in backorder.
Can anyone clarify this.
Thanks
that sounds like you're SOL buddy... sorry
I don't know what the status is. My camera LED does not work, so I phoned in early Wednesday morning (5:30 a.m. EST) and arranged for a replacement. The email acknowledgment I got said "Less than one week" for "Estimated ship." I haven't heard anything further.

so no tracking number or anything, did you try to call them. cause we have only 15days for replacement
I requested a replacement on Tuesday, and it's still pending for me. I'm not complaining though, since I still have my Nexus 4. I don't really care if it takes 2 or 3 weeks for the replacement to get to me, as long as it's fulfilled, I'm a happy camper.
I requested a replacement Tuesday night because there is a small crack or hole in the backlight that looks like dead pixels but it's under the LCD and I got the same ships in less than a week but it's still pending in the play store

I know but I don't install all the apps I need, then start over again. It would be a hassle so was wondering if they send us ASAP.

My call on Wednesday requesting an RMA exchange was less than 24 hours after I received the phone, well within 15 days. Anyhow, this is a warranty issue, which means I have a year, not 15 days.
If I haven't heard anything by middle of next week, I'll follow up with them, given the "less than a week" timeframe they quoted.

Isn't the warranty through lg? Meaning you will have to send it to lg for repair or replacement? Going through Google during the 15 day period let's you replace it through Google.
Ifvit is before the 15 days why is it a warranty issue?

Beats me. All I know is it's a defective unit, I called up Google support, and they're sending me a replacement. If at some point in the future Google tells me I need to talk to LG about defects, I'll talk to LG.
at least with the nexus 7, the benefit of buying from Google Play rather than buying from a store was that the play orders would be managed by Google if there was any warranty issues, whereas the store orders were managed by ASUS themselves.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you place an order for a replacement unit, RMA, Google places a hold for the full price of the phone on your account, in this case 384 dollars. Until the defective phone is returned, correct?
If so, are you guys with RMAs going to have an extra 384 taken out until you received the replacement.
I have a defective unit, my earpiece does not work, but I don't have an extra 384 dollars to let Google borrow while they send me a replacement unit god knows when.
Also, are RMAs brand new in box? Or refurbished units?

OK has anyone had any experience on doing an exchange or return in the UK for a nexus 4.
I recieved mine today and the damn device is perfect in every way except the bezel had a big chunk of paint chipped off where the volume rocker is. I was gutted as the screen was pixel perfect the buttons were solid the back didn't creak. nothing.
So I thought I'll set up an exchange no problem Google are good this way. After all the guys over in the us get a shipping label send off the device and in the mean time a new one is winging its way to you. Thanks to ups.
So I spoke to Eric who said he would set up the RMA and I should send back the damaged device with the shipping label and RMA note in the email he would send.
Not so
I got the email and it had an RMA document but no shipping label.
I phoned to ask where I send it from then. Now Jeremy tells me they don't do shipping labels for the UK as its TNT that deal with things over here.
OK I thought I'll contact TNT
Nope they need a reference number for collection or before they can do anything.
So I phone back
In the mean time I check my Google account and notice the new device £279 pending. So I check my bank and find the £279 has been pre authorized on my bank account
Which wouldn't be so bad if they sent a shipping label etc as I could have it sent away tomorrow and with them next week. Well within the 21days return and they wouldnt charge me.
As it is I have no shipping label and no one can reassure me that one is or will be send and how I will receive it.
So I call up johnney at Google who tells me it should turn up but does not know how.
Well I can't have £279 pre auth out my account for a device that will ship to me sometime and £288 out my account for a device I have but is faulty so can't sell it and probably won't get a shipping label sent out therefore I'll end up with one good device which I will be charged for and another that's faulty and cannot return
That's if the exchange is OK when it comes
My god why don't they offer a door step exchange like Sony did with the ps3 etc through ups or city link
In the end I couldn't take the risk and had to cancel the exchange so that the pre auth will drop off my account and set up the RMA for the one I have to get a refund.
I know its not great but better than being charged again and ending up not being able to return the first.
From what I read over at the nexus 7 forum a lot of UK customers waited for about a month for refunds but some were 59 days or more as the shipping labels just didn't go out.
So I wanted to know if anyone had already went through this process in the UK and what the actual procedure was and how long it took to receive the shipping label etc. Did it get sent out or did you drop it off with TNT and give googles account number or what.
Any info would be great and I'm sure it would help other UK customers as I would have really liked some info.
Unfortunately we are not as fortunate as our US brothers and sisters to be able to deal with ups and simple returns.
Here's some pics of my lovely but flawed nexus

Anyone want to chip in with experiences as it would be really useful to find out what's going on in the UK since Google don't seem to know

I've just organised a replacement due to white spots on the screen and the buzzing earpiece. It took a while to get through, and I was ready to break something due to the pre recorded message about high volumes of calls on a constant loop (as in it literally repeats the second it finishes) but the guy I spoke to was extremely helpful, more so than any UK based CSR I've ever dealt with!
In terms of the procedure, he's emailing me with an RMA form and he said a prepaid postage label will come with my new device in order to send the defective one back. He also said a charge will appear on my card and once they receive the defective device they'd take the charge off.
Although my experience hasn't completed yet, I thought I'd share my experience so far.
01354 226184 that's the none 0800 number to call for UK based support by the way, for those who can't call 0800 numbers for free.
Yeah same as myself.
The issue I have with it all is they don't really know who arranges what in the UK. I was told its TNT that arrange the returns bag but TNT say its Google that have to initiate the return through TNT. Then latter sounds more sensible but Google cs don't know how to do this and presume its automatic.
Problem is you only have a limited time to get the return back to them.
If I could walk into TNT give googles TNT account number then pop the device in a bag with the RMA note I would be happy.
It would be sent off and tracked. Simply just have to wait on it being received and refunded.
What makes me uneasy is the potential for the returns bag to never turn up. You get billed for a second device and no way to return the original defective one.
I'll keep this going as there are lots of threads about returns in the US but nothing about how the process works in practice in the UK which leaves me wishing Google had a walking store or doorstep exchange service.
Also thanks for the non 0800 number

You know I remember reading somewhere in the agreement Google say that they reserve the rights to send out used/refurbished items as replacement. Maybe your nexus is one of those.
Just a suggestion: Do try to make sure you handle your RMA carefully. I recently did an RMA and the CSR sounds like a complete noob and in the email they sent me has a RMA agreement with ASUS and link on it.They're just getting real sloppy.

There is no way the RMA stock already has returned/refurbished devices in it. They have to go back through a process to be repaired, inspected, tested, and repackaged before they can be sent as RMA units and this process takes weeks or even months. Any RMA units that are sent out at this point in time will definitely be new units.
The RMA devices are new as they have as said before kept a stock of new ones aside for this purpose.
As of yet I have not had any returns envelope or shipping label etc.
I know j could use the nexus 4 just now until returned but I'm just so fed up with the whole process its left the device tainted with this experience. Its an awesome device and love the design I just can't bring myself to use it because of all this. So it will be returned as I got it if I ever get to return it

I looked at their site and it said the RMA document would be sent with my replacement, which would be despatched within a week of the 20th. Seriously, Google are a joke!
I'm trying to arrange a collection for my faulty Nexus, I have the TNT bag with the consignment letter, which has a senders account number registered to Google. The delivery address on the consignment letter is that of LG Electronics in Poland, TNT won't collect it as the delivery address that they have registered to the Account Number that I'm quoting is for Google in Belgium.
Did anyone else experience this? I'm tempted to blag it with TNT and just say that the delivery address is what they think it should be.
Ok, so maybe there was no murder involved.
My phone fell and the screen cracked. I found a new screen on Ebay for $86 and it shipped from California. The screen came and I replaced the old one with no issues. I turn it all back on and I can't swipe down the notification tray. I tried hard resetting the phone, but no luck. After looking around online I figured the most likely culprit was the digitizer had gone bad in that area of the screen.
I contacted the seller on Ebay and he seemed more than happy to refund the price once I send it back. However, his return address is in China, not the California address the screen shipped from. Since I'm responsible for the return cost the cheapest I found was $44. That's half the price of the screen and doesn't seem worth the hassle in case another issue pops up.
So my questions are two fold. Does anyone know any other problem that might be causing this? Also any advice on any recourse I might have? Ebay's policy is pretty clear, if I ship it back I can get a refund plus original shipping cost (which was free in this case).

Try using that part of the screen for something else but swiping down the notification bar? Install solitaire and see if it, while playing in landscape, registers any touches over there.
I can't help with your shipping. But I know how expensive international mail can be, as I had to get my nexus from overseas... I feel ya!
What shipping information did you use to get that price.? Was it FedEx/ups? USPS said about 24 if you use the priority mail international small flat rate box. And it was about 10 if you used regular mail

Don't return it if seller does not pay return shipping cost. Call your bank file a chargeback get your money. LG replaces the screen for $100.
Well the seller got back to me and said if I send them $8 to cover shipping they'll just send me another screen and I don't even have to send the old one back.
sounds like a caring seller
That's good the seller will send you another screen.

how do you think, this part is oryginal even if it;s from china? it's gorilla glass?
sounds like one of those sellers with friends in the US just so they can show up as a "us only seller". If it were me I'd probably ship it back certified to the return address in California then file a complaint with paypal (depending on how you paid but if it's ebay it's almost always paypal), with the tracking/certified number as proof of return shipping. And surely there must be something again'st ebay's policy about changing the location all the sudden.

What you have is called a pre-authorization. Essentially you are just giving Google permission to actually take the money from you account if needed. As far as the money returning to your account it is dependant on your card issuers policies. it is usually 5 business days. The best way to find out is to call you bank and ask them how long until a pre-authorization will expire. i.e. my bank, Navy Federal will hold the funds for 48 hours and if Google does not collect within that time it will return back to my available balance.
Why did you send the phone in first? As I understood it google does an advanced RMA, if not then why would you give them your credit card number? The credit card is essentially a deposit to guarantee you send back the old device but if you are sending the device in first there would be no need for the deposit.

No. They hold the money because until you ship the phone and they receive it, they have no way of holding you accountable. They hold the money before they ship the phone to you, so you shipping your phone to them first makes no difference.

Yes, that's called an advanced RMA. They send out the replacement and put a hold on your card, when you receive the replacement you send back your defective device. If google is doing something different and/or forcing people to pay for return shipping then their consumer division is even worse off than I thought.
