Good Day to you all.
This is my first post here as i joined just now because of an ongoing promo on XDA2 and P900 in SMART Philippines.
I am a avid  SMARTPHONE user, Tanager E100, is and was my previous unit UNTIL im gonna decide to go for either XDA2 or P900.
Now, I wouldn't have registered here if I didn't LIKE the XDA2, however since MOST of you here are already experienced users, I would like to ask ALL of you TO HELP me COMPARE the two units and SHOW the GOOD as well as the BAD sides of each. Pocket PC / Communicators are a new field for me as I am a SMARTPHONE user.
Thats where I need your INPTS. Thank you.
It really depends on whether you want a fantastic pda with a built in phone function (XDAII) or a phone with a built in pad function (P900). The 'built in' part being compromised on both machines.
I personally have have all of Nokia's Communicator series and both types of XDA and having seen and used a friend's P900, I would definately recommend the XDAII.
Thanks, I need more info though.
Thanks, Now for Techies, The SPECS say that:
XDA2 has 400MHZ Intel PSX??? processor whereas SE P900 has 154Mhz ARM10 processor. How does this compare?
This sounds like comparing a MAC and a PENTIUM based PC does it?
And which has the larger market support Windows Mobile 2003 or Symbian Technology?
Hope I get your comments, Thanks.
chameleon
They're both ARM processors, so no it's not like the difference between 680??/PowerPC MACs and 80x86/Pentium IBM PCs - There is a REAL speed difference here.
I would think that the 'largest' market base is with Symbian as it's used in lots of phones and not just the P800/P900s (they're just the top end). Consider that most of the current Nokia (who are the largest global supplier of mobile phones) use the Symbian OS and that there are FAR more Mobile Phones than PDAs

I'd have to disagree with that view, yes there are more Symbian based phones than there are WM2003 based phones but only a few Symbian handsets have any real PDA functionality.
The PocketPC userbase is vast and growing with a huge array of applications, utilities etc, far in excess of that available for P800/P900's.
Griffog,
I agree, when comparing P800/P900 numbers to Pocket PC numbers then there are far more Pocket PCs .... Although I wouldn't like to guess that this were true for Pocket PC Mobiles.
Yes, there would be a far greater range of applications for Pocket PCs although far fewer mobile specific ones.
At the end of the day, I'd personally choose an XDA type device - I just wish that the specification meant that you didn't loose all your software/data when the device ran out of power - In this day and age that is quite simply rediculous!!!
Thanks a lot folks, JWEATHALL and GRIFFOG and XDA-ROCKS
British/English Folks help a lot, dont they? im still waiting for replies from other nationalities.
You've CONVINCED me. Though I needed less convincing anyway, as I was inching towards having an O2 XDA II as offered by our service provider here.
My XDA II will be arriving shortly and I cant wait.
Now the FUN part, trying to understand how it works, with my smartphone background, i know it would be easy, but its not going to be a walk in the park.
My favorite amd very useful apps in smartphone are:
1. PHM Registry Editor (for cool tweaking)
2. Smart Explorer
3. SP Task Manager
4. Mitac Phonebackup
5. Pocket TV and MVP
6. Sprite Backup
7. Twyx Imeter
8. Nintendo Emulator
Are these EASILY available for XDA2?
:?:
Im looking forward to GREAT PDA functions from my XDA, would greatly appreciate the MS Office apps.
Im planning to buy  Wi-Fi SD expansion card  , which I will use to our Wi-Fi server, is it easy to setup?
Id appreciate the replies. Thanks again
You're in for a treat - most of those apps are available for PocketPC and if you're into emulators there's even freeware emu's for the Playstation and Gameboy Advance
@chameleon,
Welcome aboard!!!
I used to have a P800 (wich is very close to the P900)... I was really into Sony Ericsson phones/pdas, I even have a portal dedicated to them... www.sonyericssonfans.com
But I really went ahead switched to the MDA2 and love every bit of it...
Lots of software and emulators!!!!
Let us know what you think once you have it...
Rayan
you wont have a problem working the XDA if you know how to use a windows pc
the SPV series is hard to set up and configure compared to the XDA as you can touch whats on screen and not having to navigate through menus all the time
gaz
I was there. I got XDA2 as soon as it was released in Dubai. Then, P900 came out and I've sold XDA2 and got P900. It's a very cool device, specially 5 way jog - it is something every PDA maker should license from Sony, IMHO. Functionality wise I wasn't very impressed. And the most annoying part was BT. They just hate each other - P900 and HBH-65
Back to XDA2 now and more hat happy with it. Really hope that SE will bring functional BT and better dialer.
Hi, All out there
I am also a NewBie here. Happily came here with a good chance, I have learned a lot from here although not long. I had bought an O2 XDA2 for my wife and I am going to buy another one for myself. I am going to dwelling deeply into it technically. The bad side of this stuff, my personal feeling, is that they only implement one SD slot. If they can implement it with two SD slots, then things would be much more wonderful.
missa,
i think there is a BACKPACK accessory than you ca purchase for your XDA 2, it contains 2 SD/MC slots and an additional BATT, plus an RCA jack??, not sure with this.
Thanks FOLKS, i have my XDA already and im tinkering with it right now.
This is GREAT. hehehe.
Ive got a P800 and I want to go for a XDA something, I might wait for the XDA3, I need something with Wifi and the new P910 just doesnt have it and you cant get extra wifi with the sony memorystick duo! which sucks a little.
Yes the 5 way jog dial from sony is totaly cool and just great for doing stuff with one hand, only real good thing about the phone. As for a PDA device, its not that great! I try and use it to the max but the screen is just that little to small to do most things with!

This phone is my first wp7 smartphone! I like it.
Hi.....i have this WP7 device.....it's wonderful
great phone... i love it !
hello xda.
i know xda long time, often i was here and read useful infos about flashing, configure and other tech. details about smartphonearchitecture. for me its fascinating to understand the inner software systems of different smartphone os, but not as much to develop i like to compare and check out the pros and cons of these. today i think my voyage has an end. my first smartphone was a SE Satio i bought very cheap on ebay with a greek firmware - let the party begin.. symbian was great i think, stable, good usability but bad software management. the cybershot camera has made very good pics and with sygic maps it was my allround tool. then the real challenge comes with my LG Optimus Black night by night, day by day i configured this os until death. every few days a new UI, tools bootspashes an so on... there was no end^^ i loved it but it was timewaste! in between of adndroid and all of its blossoms i used an iphone next to android. iOS has shown me a way out of the dark by its simplicisity and smoothnes. in this time learned to love a stable, reliable smartphone OS: hugh amount of well coded apps and apples "everything-cloud-integration" with itunes. good system but there were some things i doesnt like. at first, the possible censorship by apples appstore and for me the elitist mood of beeing an apple user. allright, the hardware is well designed. haptic and manufacture quality is top of the end... but... hm its just apple! u know. most apple users would stone me to death for these words, and exactly this circumstance is reason for me not to be an apple user. then i checked out wp7 ant this is the solution. i m not the ultimate windows fighter, no. linux is my way, on work and private but the new Metro UI of WP7 and Windows 8 and its very good integration on every hardware level such as smartphone, tablet, media center and desktop i think is the right way. due to the fact "keep it small and simple" is Metro the result of, in german i say "fortschritt ist der weg vom primitiven zum komplizierten zum einfachen" ! wp7 is fast, simple and stable. why all these energy wasting eye-candy bull**** for android i prefered?! my smartphone has to work when i need it and not to say "bye bye... my software has killed me and my integrity"
i love my omnia7
i am tight interested, what microsoft will bring in future..
thank you
Hello everyone. I'm using Omnia 7 for several months and I am delighted with it. Now, I just installed the new rom tango 8773, thanks to ceesheim and the rest of the team that has worked. I think it is great work.
I think it'll be a long time, enjoying this wonderful forum.
Hello everybody
I use to visit XDA for a long time now and I really appreciate that people do things like these. I have an Omnia 7 for a year now, and unfortunately, Microsoft could do better work than they are doing. there is 4 major flaws I detect in windows phone.
1. Bluetooth file transfers... old stuff not present ina modern smartphone...
2. Can't send pdf files by email... (What???? ) or other files different from images or docs
3. one can't use "browse" button present in a web page to select a file for upload...
4. Zune "thing" for "syncronize" stuff? come on... Just let us paste a divx movie to watch on the go , or manually select musics and photos to and from device, just like we used to do with old win mobile...
Microsoft tried to "iphonise" their phones... what a pitty!
But as for the rest, pretty good, I think! Thanks for reading this!
Hello all...I will be co-moderating in here now. If u need anything or have suggestions please feel free to pm me.
I'd like to ask administrators to add forum for Huawei Ascend W1. It is great phone with good price/performance. Huawei Ascend W1 looks great, has front facing camera, SD card, NFC(Im not sure) and ofcorse WP8. So if you like/love your new Huawei Ascend W1, just tell us.
Sent from my HUAWEI W1-U00 using Board Express
i bought 5 days ago. It is great, after my android phone, but of course it have minuses. For example low volume for ringtone. Can't erase "other" folder, but this i think is WP minus. So if u want to know something question. in all phone is great!
I would love a forum and maybe people could unlock this phone for custom roms I hope..
Are the android ascend phones bootloader unlocked? Are there much diffrence in hardware?
I too have bought a few days ago ... too locked, as it is only a good phone ... not a good smartphone, if Microsoft continues with this policy on the protection of its software, it certainly will end up like Nokia and its Symbian ....: (
I bought mine today.
Can't wait for it.
Great Value
I also got it for a good price.
Great phone for a small price.
I just couldn't believe my eyes.

And when exactly was symbian too closed and protective you shouldve done your research before buying dude their's nothing wrong in the way msft is going with wp, i feel, you have plenty other open alternatives then why buy wp and complain about closeness
Unbranding W1
Just received mine after 6 years with an HTC HD2
If it's not what I think I will have to buy another HD2
Anyone know if its possible to get rid of the O2 branding on these phones?
Thanks

Japanese日本語 on Huawei Ascend W1
Can some Ascend W1's owner tell me if this device has the Japanese keyboad and/or the Japanese localization?
You should see something like this: 日本語.
Thanks
Fast charge
1. Plug the charger into a wall outlet 220V.
2. Remove the back cover and remove the battery.
3. Connect the charger to the device.
4. When pochuvstvuyute vibration, quickly insert the battery (if you do not have time, it will download huaveya and battery with a question). If you have time to insert, it will download the phone and charging indicator. You will not need to wait long time to turn the phone.
5. After five minutes, turn on the phone, the battery will be 3-10%
Tried five times worked....
This phone could be a nice device with Windows Phone 8.1... but with the Developers Preview now wi have the weird problem of not detecting the SD card on startup.
The walkarount is weird too... and bothering.

Hi folks,
some days ago i found a new app for restoring lost photos on android phones; it's "Dr. Fone" from wondershare:
(Please, google the link yourself)
An interesting detail is, that the app will root your phone while restoring the lost photos. So the question is whether the app is able to root any android smartphone or tablet - if yes, the tool could be the perfect rooting tool for everybody, what do you think?
Unfortunately, the app isn't free, but the rooting part is possible with the test version, if think.
Did anybody try this interesting feature?
not free, but has a free trial. It failed for my Note4 SM-910A on 6.0.1 but it has a claim on https://drfone.wondershare.com/reference/android-root.html of working for 5.1.1
Why not check your OS version and use its free trial? [I'd have been willing to pay had it worked for me.

Gonna go ahead and tell you you're out of luck, Wondershare is a scam company and they have been for years (I've used some of their products and they don't work at all!!)
As for the photo restoration, go look at the reviews on Amazon. Its a 2-star product. I would never buy that in my life even if it meant I could root my phone! It sounds to me like KingRoot.. roots your phone but sends your IMEI to China to be put in fake clone phones.
Good to know. Thanks for the hint
