I have just received my new nexus 7 from Google Play Australia.
However, It does not work. I think Google sent me a dead device. No matter how I did to the power button, the device just won't power up. It shows me nothing but a lot of black and white lines.
I have taken a picture for the situation. Is there any help?

I don't know if you have UPS where you are at, but when I order a electronic device I will not let them send it via UPS, I don't know if its just me but it seems like they wind up breaking what ever I order,

Yeah, its dead, try holding down the volume DOWN and the power key for 10 seconds, then release the power key and keep the volume down key pressed, and it will force the unit to restart into the bootloader from any stage, its effectively like pushing the restart button on the front of a computer and constantly pressing the delete key to get into the bios.
if you can get into the boot loader, follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781250 I followed it myself to un-brick mine when I stuffed up the dpi change
if not then its busted and there is probably nothing you can do.
It looks like its attempting to display the black screen with the white android logo but the LCD panel is stuffed, IMHO.
they should mail out a replacement for you free of charge and that replacement will come with a postage voucher to send it back to them, probably looking at a week turn around.
off topic, mine was delivered by FedEx in Australia on Friday, boxed inside another box surrounded by bubble wrap, it was pretty well protected, the outside box has a little "cardboard rugby" damage but the unit is 100% A OK

Get it RMA'ed. I'm in Melbourne and I did this with my first N7 with a defective screen. The new one arrived today and took about a week. I am yet to open it, let's hope it's all good!

just one question, do I need to send the broken one back to Google first if I request replacement?

Nope, they will send you a new one and then upon receiving that, you have 21 days to return the original.

The power button on the side of my 8525 is stuck in and cannot be pressed! I cannot turn my phone off. I have tried to pry it very softly but it wont budge. The phone works perfectly, just the button cannot be pressed at all...
What can I do to fix it??? I have tmobile, so would cingular help me at all if I took it to them? Should I try to take it apart? I got the phone last feburary so ive had it for a while. Should I try to contact HTC America to see what they could do???
Thanks in advance for all your help!
PLEASE!!! Does anyone have any suggestions?? My phone hasnt been turned off and i dont know what to do! Is there any way i could assign the power function to another button???
Please help!
Well, the phone should shut down itself after a while (i.e. suspend), go to your Settings -> .. somewhere on the Power / Battery settings. But, before you do that, make sure you do not have your button locked. . or else you will not able to wake your unit up (since you have a dead power button).
Anyway, there is no way of mapping the power button to another button. BUT, there is a software approach. Called ShutDown, (i.e. http://myitforum.com/articles/9/view.asp?id=6766), which seems to able to give you a shutdown thing like Windows. It does cause some problem though (i.e. hanging WM6 phones, in the Start->Programs).. not sure if it will cause problem with yours. But you can always reset your phone anyway (i.e. poke the reset button).
If you are comfy of taking it apart, I think you can do it. I think there are service manual for this. Look for "mikechannon" (a mod here) for his webpage for manuals. Or harrass him by PM him Note your warranty though. Or, you can buy a cheap Cingular PAYG card (if they have it there, I'm not in US) and pretend to be their customers? Try HTC US first? You have to make your own decision.

But seriously, if your lucky it's just the outer plastic switch cover that's stuck and not the micro switch that's jammed.
The manual you'll find in my signature webpage.

This happened to me a few weeks ago, I dropped it and it landed on the leg of an office chair, on its power button.
First of all I went into settings and told it not to lock the screen and buttons so that I didnt get locked out of my phone.
I then basically, fiddled with it for a while, using various pointy implements to try to free it, but I didnt manage to. After a day or two of normal use (making sure the battery didnt run out!) the phone occasionally asked me if I was sure I wanted to turn it off, just like it does when you press the power button, so the button had come loose a bit, but only to the extent that it occasionally engaged itself. Soon after I could press it in a tiny bit and sometimes it would engage, but it was unreliable. Anyway, it got better the more I pressed it untill now it's as good as new.
My advice to you is just give it as much 'attention' as you can, and it should soon dislodge.

Well, I am still having the problem.. I havent turned off my device in over 13 days and it is killing my battery life... It doesnt even last a day anymore... Does anyone else have a solution? The thing is that the screen flickers on and off like its being pressed when its not... I dont know... I believe that that as something to do with the power decrease...
Can I try to pry it lose??? What exactly is causing it to be pressed??? Can I put in a pay as you go card and have att fix it???
Any advice would help!
thanks!
You got some advice on here. Did you try to follow any of it?
Ive folowed everything! HTC wants $125 to repair my stuck power button. I am not completely comfortable taking it apart, but if i was given pretty decent instructions i could probably attempt it... The power button is not broken, it is just stuck... because when i pry at it, it activates itself...
help!
Does anyone have anything?!?!? it is still broken.. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
My phone had the dead-touch-screen syndrome & I got fixed by a repair shop.
Now it's working ok but during the fix they broke the VolumeDown button!
Is there any way to go to the bootloader?
Thanks,
WH
this should be in the Q&A forum, this forum is only for roms and kernals
You should be able to connect your phone via USB to your computer without turning on SD card mounting, I think you need the windows mobile software installed on your computer so that the phone can be detected and then initiate the flashing program which should be able to restart your phone and flash it... I may be wrong about some roms but I know the official windows mobile ones could do that without forcing the phone to boot into the flashing screen with the volume keys.
once you have ClockWork recovery installed you could successfuly navigate it using just the up arrow, back answer and hang up keys.
You will get stuck if the flashing doesnt work though, as you wont be able to force it into the HSPL page if the rom wont boot... so you have an increased possibility of bricking your phone if something goes wrong as you are cutoff from most of the unbricking techniques. With android NAND that is really only a problem when doing RADIO's and MAGLDR, once those are on you only need to hold down the hang up key to get into recovery and you can navigate slowly with just the up vol key
oh and you also will no longer be able to flash form your SD card to return it to factory settings, as that requires the vol down button as well
If you are sure they broke it, bring it back to the shop for complaint.
Htc broke my speaker and they fixed it for me free.

Had exactly same problem. They fix it in service.
you should give a good slap to whoever fixed and actually broke one of the main accessibilty.
demand a repair. its a very crucial button.
**note: actually the volume flex in hd2 breaks very easily. it requires a very minimum full bend to loose the metallic layer strip inside the plastic sheath.
Hi all,
Unfortunately I can't return it easily
I got it fixed in China as it was not easily fixed where I live
Is there any way I can fix it myself?
I'm an electronic engineer & fixed many mobiles before but I know it's not easy to open the HD2 & I don't want to lose it
I've checked many YouTube instructions on how to replace the screen but nothing for the volume.
Anyone have photos on how the volume button look like & what is the part number to buy I'll really appreciate it.
Thanks guys,
WH
Its pretty easy to take the hd2 apart... I think you should just grab another flex cable with a working volume buttons... usually I find broken hd2 in my town for 40-60 dollars

actually i had taken apart my HD2 to clean the dust around the light sensor and also dirt around the power button.
i didnt take a clear shot of the volume buttons. but these shots which i took that time should give you some clear view.

So i was scrolling through my facebook feed today and suddenly the left vertical half of the display started to flicker bright white. I was like #WTF is this? The right half went dark while the left was blinking randomly (once every 10 or 30 sec).

For the people with the broken displays, try this to recovery some data if you need it in the meantime of repair, or if you're replacing the device out of pocket etc.
1. Turn off your device
2. Boot to bootloader (hold Power + Volume Down), and wait a bit to be sure you're in the bootloader
2a. Flash twrp if you don't already have twrp
3. Scroll down to recovery - Two volume down clicks if nothing is visible
4. Hit the power button
5. Use the USB to USB C adapter that came with your phone, one side into your computer and one into your phone
6. Pull files FROM your phone to your computer if you have any important files
As for the stock firmware attempt after backing up important stuff
Steps 1-2 from above
3. Download the stock firmware of your choice
4. Flash stock, your choice to wipe userdata or not, instructions in the Sticky Thread
5. Press the power button on the bootloader after the device is done with the process from the fastboot side of things.

Does Huawei replace phones with hard to see stracthes
I decided to go back to stock rom a few weeks ago after using Lineage, I obviously was an idiot because while the stock rom flashed perfectly as soon as there was an OTA update it went into the bootloop, couldn't flash it as the bootloader is locked.
Tried using ABD fastboot but it wouldn't unlock the bootloader, the mi unlock tool wouldn't do it either.
I now have an EDL cable but can't seem to get the phone into EDL mode to flash it. I connect the cable to the PC, press the button and plug into phone, the phone simply goes boots to the normal charging screen that presents when you plug it in whilst the phone is off. Nothing shows up in device manager etc.
Anyone help me unbrick it?

Not really sure what I've damaged either since it doesnt seem to be a part of the screen or back plate. So not sure if it's worth getting it repaired.
I damaged my phone too yesterday while I was trying to open it so I could unbrick it but I don't care. Having a working phone (the way I want it) is more important than having one with stock Pie in immaculate condition.

It's called "middle frame housing/chassis" which holds all the components together like display, motherboard, sub board, battery etc. You have chipped off the plastic bezel/border of the housing that surrounds the display and protect it from breaking during fall.
It will not affect the functionality of the phone but will definitely make a big dent in your pocket if your phone falls from your hand / pocket.
I will suggest you to replace the middle frame as soon as possible and until then use it with extreme care or with a good quality case.
You can find it on Aliexpress or from your local spare parts dealer. It will cost you around 5-7USD.
P.S. : Don't try to do it yourself, get help from a technician(2-3USD) as they separate the lcd and frame using heat of lcd-glass separator machine.

Thanks, it's okay the price they'd charge to replace it would be around £60 here, even if I supplied the part, I can buy a new one for £60ish on ebay so it's not worth it.
I ordered the Note 8, the plan was to pass thr Mi A1 on to someone but I'll just write it off.

Unfortunately I'm in th UK.
hi there, I just replaced my screen for the umpteenth time but, on this occasion, it hasn't "taken". The old screen is totally obliterated, smashed display, but it still takes power and behaves as it should (lights up on disconnection of usb charger, for example). The new screen? Not so much. It does actually work, it shows the picture fine, but it only shows it for a fraction of a second then blinks off. When I press the power button again it does nothing, as it thinks I'm turning the phone off, then when I press it again the screen comes back on for a half a second or so and same issue. Have checked all connections, all fine, have swapped in the old screen to confirm it behaves as it should, all fine.
I'm wondering, could this be some kind of gpu/driver issue? Or has anyone experienced this before with a replacement screen and it's just a "dud"? Absolute downer as I've been waiting for it for a month or so and literally can't afford to buy another one at the moment, really bad year

However, the cable/screen are all one piece and were bought together, so is it possible they'd mismatch the cable to the screen themselves? idk, anyway, I've opened a dispute and have now been told that I'm stupid and that I have installed the screen incorrectly and not connected the battery (absolute gibberish).
I made a couple of videos for them, idk, have a look and see what you reckon but, indeed, to me this looks like straight up incompatibility as the screen isn't being driven properly by the phone (and, as you can see, the old busted screen behaves correctly)
Video of old/broken screen showing correct power response and on/off behaviour:

Here is the video of"new" screen which is clearly not correctly supported

Well hopefully I can get a refund for the part and get another. Can't even afford to order another at the moment until I get the refund :/ Lost my business last year due to covid and don't have access to state benefits or the like, so have just been trying to keep the head above water for the last year and a bit, so believe it or not something like this is a big expenditure for me these days :/

The original screen is "Boe" (see screenshot), this can be verified via the "Device Info HW" application.
Too bad the phone won't start and it can't be verified...

Yeah, it's a pain, I guess the display is just not going to work and I'll have to somehow get another - hopefully I can get the refund okay as those videos show it clearly doesn't work! The phone does actually start up, everything is going on fine aside from the screen. As I have to press on/off several times to get the screen to flicker, I don't have time to put in the unlock code and get into any menus, and then when it goes off I'm back to jockeying the button until it lights up again, at which point of course it's returning from a standby state so it's going back to the code input. BAH!
hello how are you 1 month ago I bought the second-hand mate 10 lite with the crashed but functional screen and I decided to buy a screen since the one I brought stopped working the touch screen everything was fine in the installation but the same thing happened to me as you understand normal but the screen does not work when the device is finished charging and putting the pattern turns on the screen and also that when I make a gesture it does not work I have to press a little hard and I realized that the screen came out a slight defect and I cannot request a refund since remove the security seals when installing it in your case if it came out with a major manufacturing defect
Note 2020 just look at the date of your post and still comment hehe greetings from Mexico
