Hi,
My phone had the dead-touch-screen syndrome & I got fixed by a repair shop.
Now it's working ok but during the fix they broke the VolumeDown button!
Is there any way to go to the bootloader?
Thanks,
WH
this should be in the Q&A forum, this forum is only for roms and kernals
You should be able to connect your phone via USB to your computer without turning on SD card mounting, I think you need the windows mobile software installed on your computer so that the phone can be detected and then initiate the flashing program which should be able to restart your phone and flash it... I may be wrong about some roms but I know the official windows mobile ones could do that without forcing the phone to boot into the flashing screen with the volume keys.
once you have ClockWork recovery installed you could successfuly navigate it using just the up arrow, back answer and hang up keys.
You will get stuck if the flashing doesnt work though, as you wont be able to force it into the HSPL page if the rom wont boot... so you have an increased possibility of bricking your phone if something goes wrong as you are cutoff from most of the unbricking techniques. With android NAND that is really only a problem when doing RADIO's and MAGLDR, once those are on you only need to hold down the hang up key to get into recovery and you can navigate slowly with just the up vol key
oh and you also will no longer be able to flash form your SD card to return it to factory settings, as that requires the vol down button as well
If you are sure they broke it, bring it back to the shop for complaint.
Htc broke my speaker and they fixed it for me free.

Had exactly same problem. They fix it in service.
you should give a good slap to whoever fixed and actually broke one of the main accessibilty.
demand a repair. its a very crucial button.
**note: actually the volume flex in hd2 breaks very easily. it requires a very minimum full bend to loose the metallic layer strip inside the plastic sheath.
Hi all,
Unfortunately I can't return it easily
I got it fixed in China as it was not easily fixed where I live
Is there any way I can fix it myself?
I'm an electronic engineer & fixed many mobiles before but I know it's not easy to open the HD2 & I don't want to lose it
I've checked many YouTube instructions on how to replace the screen but nothing for the volume.
Anyone have photos on how the volume button look like & what is the part number to buy I'll really appreciate it.
Thanks guys,
WH
Its pretty easy to take the hd2 apart... I think you should just grab another flex cable with a working volume buttons... usually I find broken hd2 in my town for 40-60 dollars
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
actually i had taken apart my HD2 to clean the dust around the light sensor and also dirt around the power button.
i didnt take a clear shot of the volume buttons. but these shots which i took that time should give you some clear view.
THIS is the original htc hd2 disassembly / assembly video

XDA2,
Well i dropped my phone, and it hit the on/off button, phone still works, but cant turn the unit off, this is the button in the top left hand corner.
Can this button be replaced??, if so, where can i get one, and is it possible to fit at home???.
Regards clumsy git.
I don't think so... The switch is soooo small! I think you can't fix the problem by yourself
I've had the same "problem"... sh... so I send the unit to repair....
chris
this might be something for you, it doesn't repair the button but it does allow you to shut down the XDA:

and then do a soft-reset to start the device again
mmm, that s/w works for getting the device OFF
But how on earth do you manage to switch it ON when it is allready off??
There are replacement cases for sale (saw some here), so maybe someone also sells the buttons.
There is a thread on opening the case (that guy had trouble with his speaker and / or mic).
Good luck with it!
You have the same problem as I did lofty The Switch you will find has been snapped off the circuitry mine was in a metal case so no visible damage was on it (It still looked brand new) so i sent it back and got a new one
Hi all
i did exacly the same and it snapped off the switch although it was still in there as i could here it rattling around so i took it apart and soldered it back on... good as new.. youll need a needle nose soldering iron though.. really easy to do...

Why don't you switch on using e.g. the green phone button or one of the other hotkeys?
round about solution
I dropped mine in the case as well and the on off switch broke. I use the red phone button to turn the unit on and assigned using a program called handymenu from Dinar soft - quick action another button on the side as turn off and this system works for me.
Alan
or unlock the buttons so that anytime you press any the unit turns itself on. just be careful of accidentally making a long distance call to iceland. saves you the trouble of mapping or dedicating one particular hardware button for a task. you can then turn off the unit via the method suggested by rey; or use tdlaunch to put a power off icon on the today screen (or put it on the today menu).
cheers
hi all i'am i have problem when my imate in normal position and i press power button the backlight wont start only call/reject button appeared. but when i slide the device slightly (until space on qwerty appeared) the backlight automaticly turned on, i try to do hard reset even flashin a few times n the problem wouldn't gone..
what's wrong with my device?? please help
please help, i try to search some backlight problem in this forum n they only say "no backlight problem" i dunno if the baclight complete went off or only in normal position like i have with my hermes
also read some about changeing scrool wheel n clean up connection of flexible cable but i don't thing i have enough skill to crack open my hermes T_T
please explain to me more
To crack it open, you will void warranty, download this - www.mikechannon.net
You need a size 6 torque key & a small flatbladed screwdriver. You won't need to go to the point where you need the small phillips head screwdriver...
You might find something catching if you open up thats causing a problem though I can't think what....
Cheers...
thanks for the links
well sound kinda scary but i'll give a try

Regarding not turning to landscape:
The rotation is controlled by a magnet operated switch. So the things to check are:
1.
The Keyboard connector (because the rotation switch is connected to it)

This connector is under the back cover so no major dismantling.

Check the magnet is still in position (it can fall off)

I like MANY others has run into a problem with the touchscreen. Unfortunantly. So the story short:
1. Installed NAND + some ROM - Everything worked fine
2. After 2-3 months the touchscreen temporarily wouldn't react (on the lockscreen)
3. I did a total wiping of everything on the phone to original WM6.5 , then reinstalled MAGDLR and Android - It worked perfect for a day
4. The next day it didn't react, so i reinstalled as in 3. but it didn't work
5. I removed HSPL but I couldn't get rid of android - So I called the repaircenter and the dude I was talking to said that it didn't matter if i delivered it with android
6. It took a week to get it back - But they didn't fix the screen, they just left a note saying: "There have been unauthorized software on the phone. Therefore void all warranty and repair options"
7. I ordered a T5 Torx screwdriver, took a look inside the phone to check if it was a loose connection between touch screen and main board, but nothing seemed like it....
--- Now, this puts me in a weird position. Ordering a new DIGITIZER or both digitizer and LCD.. The LCD isn't damaged in any way, but I read that it's hard to install the digitizer only.
What would you guys recommend?
BTW, when I hold the power key in the start screen of android the upper option is being marked (Check picture) Is that an indication that the digitizer is ****ed?

Bump for help
get on an android build, and if you can get your touchscreen working, DO NOT TOUCH THE END KEY. for me, the end key causes all kinds of touchscreen problems. download extended controls or a similar app, and that will let you power off/reboot/go into sleep without touching the end key, then always use the green key/windows key/back key/home key to wake up and you should be good.
let me know if this work.
Thanks, I'll give it a try when I get home some time today
you are not the only one with touchscreen problems i had it
flash stock rom and send for repair
they changed the whole screen on mine phone, its not android issue its htc issue and the connection with digitizer and motherboard it breaks when pressing end button
forgot to mention only use my method if you don't have a warranty (like me) or don't want to send it in.
I've had my 32GB Nexus 7 2012 (grouper) since it was released. I love it, or well, I did. Until about 12 months ago, the WiFi reception and speed plummeted into what may as well be hell in the stone ages. I couldn't find the problem. I thought it was something to do with software, as I had recently upgraded to a newer version of Android at the time. So, I dismissed it, and waited patiently for a fix. Nothing. So, it has been sitting there since KitKat was released, doing nothing.
Until now that is! I decided that I didn't want to look at it doing nothing anymore, so I researched far past page 2 of Google (Desperate times people, desperate times...) and I found this gem!
I strongly recommend you DO NOT perform that guide. It can damage your device even more. Instead, please use the guide below:
YOU WILL NEED:
Small knife or Electronics opening tool
Soldering Iron (Sorry)
Solder
Basic soldering skills
[URL="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11400.m1842.l5919/7?euid=f15f56b658ee4efebf0c8f34c466567e&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fpayments.ebay.co.uk%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewPaymentStatus%26transId%3D472422032026%26itemId%3D390820734137%26qu%3D1%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AL%3AOC%3AGB%3A5919&exe=11193&ext=27012&sojTags=exe=exe,ext=ext]Contact Fingers (As many that are broken on your device)[/URL]
Right, lets get started...
(Oh yeah, and to make sure you can't sue me if you mess up, I am not liable for any damage you cause to you or the device you're performing this guide on. This may also void the warranty on the device you are performing this guide on)
BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!!
Turn off your device
Ensure that your device is unplugged from any power source
1) Open the Nexus 7 carefully.
2) Find the broken contact(s). The red circle in the picture below annotates where one of the WiFi contacts is broken.
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3) Put the replacement contact finger(s) in place
4) Solder the new contact(s) onto the motherboard ensuring that the solder is only touching that contact
It's important that the solder is only touching one piece of metal, as otherwise the circuit will be shorted and your device may be damaged.
If you have messed up the soldering, there are tools to remove the solder, or you can re-heat it and try to wipe/scrape it off. The tool you want heats up, and sucks up the solder off the circuit board.
5) Leave the device for at least five minutes
6) Once you have left the device, check to see if the angle of the new contact is the same as the other ones. If not, gently bend it into place.
7) Place the casing back onto the Nexus 7, and press to lock it into place
8) Boot up your device
And that's it, you're done!!!! If this guide helped you, press thanks, and if you're feeling generous, donate

Broken Link
Hi,
The link you have provided is no longer valid, I just thought that I would see what I could find and this is one of them:
hypertext protocol:worldwidewebdotdigikeydotcom/en/product-highlightslashwslashwurth-electronicsslashwe-secf-emi-contact-fingers
I can not be sure which one to choose. I see one very similar to what my N7 has just not 100% certain that it would be correct one and or fit.
Regards,
T
how does this apply to NFC? my NFC is not working and i opened the case, saw one pin was bended (NFC section PIN), tried to put it back up and it broke. You think that by fixing the pin will it work again?

Why not? If that was the reason and you rectify it, it should work.
Greetings dear people of this forum!
Few days ago my phone's display started behaving in a very weird way (could be a minor drop down).
When I press the power button to draw the pattern, the whole screen is full of disturbed horizontal lines (pic_1).
If I apply some pressure on the screen's bottom right corner (pic_1 - red dot) it gets back to normal and doesn't even flickering at all (pic_2).
Howerver as soon as the display goes off because of the turn off time, too close to the face when making a call or just switch it off with the power botton, the problem reaccures.
I am very sure it is hardware related, because on the screenshots there is nothing like that and it is persist in the boot sequence. In my opinion this is some kind of faulty connection, I have already take the phone apart to catch any loose connector, but nothing changed after that.
I feel like I have to buy a new screen, but I hope I can repair it somehow, because it can works very well after my acupuncture therapy.
I have bought the phone second-hand, and I know there was a screen replacement, so its not the original one.

Could also be any gaps or something that can cause the lines(display gets pressure from wrong installation).
2 options basically. Loose connector or faulty LCD.
I don't think it's software related.
If you can give it back, then you should. If not, then you can either try to fix it by yourself by replacing the LCD assembly (with the touch digitiser).

Yes, You were right, as I thought too. The reason behind the problem was the LCD.
I have replaced it and now it works like a charm.
Thanks the response!
