Your getting Sleep of Death. If using a custom kernel, disable deep idle. Also install voltage control (or nstools for custom kernel) and bump up the voltage for 100MHz by 25 - 50mV. Did the trick on my friends phone after I put cm on it.

Thanks for the info, I don't have a custom kernel, and I can't change the voltage, should I install one?

I think this could be a battery problem too.
Is your battery old ? Mine started getting crazy after 18 months of service.
Newer battery last longer that is a good point too (i bought a 1800mah battery)
CU

I also think it's a battery problem. Try a new one.

Thanks, my battery is almost 2 years old

Change JVT modem
Hi !
I had the same issue (Sleep of death) when i was using JVT Stock ROM ! After moving to JVU and Lately JW4 the problem disappeared.
Flashing CM9 and keep on using the Stock Modem which is the JVT one bring back the Sleep of Death problems to surface, i moved to a JW4 modem by flashing it from the recovery and everything's fine for a week now !

What i think you should do is :
1 - Wipe (means for the following Data + Cache) ;
2 - Flash Stock JVU with repartition (3 files version + pit) + Wipe ;
3 - Flash JW4 + Wipe ;
4 - Download and flash CM9 (I prefer the RC2 which is known being more stable, the nighties may bring some bugs to the ROM) + Wipe ;
5 - Install the Google Apps Package (The recommended version is "gapps-ics-20120317-signed") + Wipe again ;
6 - Flash the JW4 Modem from recovery after downloading it from : http://www.mediafire.com/?l1h126w7l8d57u5
7 - Once on the system wipe the internal sd card and restore your previously saved data on it (Don't restore app with titanium or so...)
7 - Hit thanks !
Proceed for the WHOLE operation with Sim card and External SD REMOVED !

Thank you very much

It confuses me to no end why people are still on stock roms when there are awesome roms out there.
Check out this rom, its one of my favourites so far.

Most stable stock 2.3.3 ?

I'm looking for the most stable and 100% stock 2.3.3 firmware for the SGS. I did a search but the threads were too old. Any suggestions, especially since I read many 2.3.3 suffer from battery issues ? Some of the newer 2.3.3 ROMs I tested (Asian) gave me weird brightness issues (screen changing brightness constantly).
Why ?
Just flash via odin the stock 2.3.4 jvq dedoexe and flash with it kernel dark core
Or install custom rom

No. JVQ is too buggy for me (Phone app crashes) and brightness blinds me at night. I like to keeps things stock and not install kernels or other stuff.
I use JPI as it is an oficially released 2.3.3
I did not notice any bugs.
JVP is not oficially?

Where did you find JVQ Deodexed whit no bugs?

i will suggest to use the jvq 2.3.4. I'm on stock + speedmod and after the fix for the phone.apk everything is fast and very stable
I'm on JVH stock (XEN) and it gives better battery life than unofficial stock JVP. It is a bit laggy though but with speedmod kernel and ext4 it is just fine

[Q]ICS ROM clarification

Hi Now am using 2.3.7 version and kernal 2.6.32.9-gb in my defy,
Am planing to install ICS 4.0.3.What kernal should download?
Becoz i already tried Mar 3 build but its stucked many times and getting restarted again so pls tel the correct methods and kernal.GApps.
Can any one help me?
If you have gingerbread kernel you need to install a Defy+ build. If you have a normal defy, I think you need to install batery fix as well. I'll try to find it. Defy+ builds work well with red lense defys, but I don't think camera works for green lense users.
Thanks...so shall I install defy + build...and kernal link available separately....what is the use of those kernal...how. and wat should be install
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
You already have a kernel. Or else you wouldn't be able to use the phone. You've already told me that you have a gingerbread kernel. So don't bother flashing a new one.
Gapps is on first page for main CM9 thread. Battery fix is somewhere in the thread :-/ Look around page 300
Sent from my Defy+ using xda premium (app needs update!) Hit the thanks button if I could help ;-)
So defy + build and gapps,should I wipe data and cache? Procedure pls

Se the main CM9 thread! -first page
EDIT: Don't install the cm9 kernel! It gives bootloader error

CM9 Kernel gives bootloader error. It's for froyo kernel users only (as far as i've understood)
DON'T flash it! It will soft brick your phone!

I hope all doubts over
CM9 builds,gapps & battery fix is enough to my phone to run ICS.
Have to flash above three things?
Am i right?
Yup, that should be it.

That is true. I have a Defy+ and I installed the CM9 kernel. It soft bricked my phone and I had to do a SBF flash, root CWM recovery and all things all over!! Flash the CM9 built for Defy+ by Quarx. It does restarts and freezes ocassionally but is okay otherwise for a beta version!!

LG6/8 possible Wi-Fi fix

have u tried going back to stock first? i believe it's a hardware issue because in my experiences using so many custom roms based on aosp, cm and aokp, i never even seen the screen flickering issue at all.
